Specifické rysy hudební publicistiky ve vybraných tištěných periodikách v mediálním diskursu síťových médií / Specific features of the music publicistic in representative printed magazines in the period of net-media discourse

Křížová, Lenka January 2013 (has links)
This thesis deals with specifics of textual formulas of music journalism in magazines Týden, Reflex and Respekt and it is based on their articles published from January to July 2011. It contains a content analysis of the word-stock with a special interest in metaphors ant its position in our language. We can see the way how we understand the reality around us which is based on a conceptualization in our minds. And then it reflects how we speak and what meanings we give to concrete words. These metaphoric concepts are followed with concrete examples coming from articles. There is also paid attention to colloquiality and bookishness and their suitability in today's media discourse. There is made a comparison of the individual writing of journalists who represent these magazines and we can also see different attitude in processing the same or similar topics. The theoretic part of this thesis follows the history of criticism with special interest in music criticism. Then we compare today's position of this media discourse and we can also see trends which might be followed in the future.

Martins, Viviane Lima 25 June 2014 (has links)

The body is socially constructed and falls over itself marks that identify and particularize the individual. Transform the surface of the body is a practice that provokes fascination, considering that it goes beyond just seeking a healthy look and perfect body, making embodied idea on the surface of the body. In this context, the body becomes a living record that are registered affections, emotions, representations of history and the subject of his time. While half the body is an instrument of communication and inscribes itself on a textual composition and culture of the social group, which appears resigned to their attitudes and their characterization. However, in the media there is almost no space for description of the actions of called outsiders, the name given by Norbert Elias and John Scotson, to people who, somehow, escape to normal standards, thus thematising processes of social stigmatization, common in many countries. The emergence of numerous bodily techniques and practices (re)physical modeling is anchored in the idea of autonomy and self-regulation of the subject in relation to his/her body, thereby reinforcing a behavior of aversion to bodies that deviate from the dominant aesthetic standard. Thus, the primary goal is to study the position and function of the body as text, and the ways in which the bodies are discursed - accepted standards, as well as outsiders bodies in the programs that comprise the corpus - Extreme Makerover and Tabu Latino America -, thus proposing a study of the maps of values and their communicative contracts. The passionate paths are examined from the semiotics of passions of Greimas and Fontanille, and discursive analyzes are carried out with contributions from Diana Barros, David Le Breton, Beatriz Pires, Bill Nichols and Joseph Campbell, prioritizing interactional issues that affect the body as communication tool. The passions, whether external or figurativizadas the programs, motivate attitudes that lead the individual to transform his own body, and media exposure enhances behavioral and aesthetic concepts and values that are positivized or negative results by common sense of the viewer who consumes this spectacular corporeality aportada on TV / A presente pesquisa tem por objetivo investigar as alterações extremas realizadas nos corpos nos programas que representam a chamada reality TV, como os reality shows e os documentários televisivos.

Prado, Patricia Stenico do 07 August 2015 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Paricia Stenico do Prado.pdf: 1930894 bytes, checksum: 9dc9d1889e83628a311c233af7be2819 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-08-07 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This research aims to investigate the contemporary notion of body presented by Vogue magazine. The body, understood beyond its biological aspect, can be considered - inspired by corpomídia theory of Helena Katz and Christine Greiner, which analyzes the corporeality in relation to communication - as the result of its interaction with the environment in which it is inserted and the culture. There is no division between body and culture, as one becomes the other. Thereby, it‟s possible to be thought as transitional and specific, generated in the interactions of which it is part. A historical analysis of corporeality shows how the society transformations passes through are able to operate significant changes in ways of seeing/ think and deal with the body. The media, for its turn, plays an increasingly inflated role as an important way of dissemination, maintenance and even revolution of the body notions The biopolitics convocations, as José Luiz Aidar Prado says, is one of the media facets that exercise power over the contemporary body, leading to outline the ways of living that culminate in the privileged ideal of attention. Therefore, the fundamental objective of the study is to analyze the speech about the ocidental body that Vogue magazine features during the twenty-first century, relating it to the notion of a corporeality that is changeable and that must be considered in accordance to the lived moment by proposing a critical analysis. In order to fulfill an historical background the authors selected were Denise Bernuzzi de Sant'Anna, Nikolas Rose, Michel Foucault and also some authors that worked for the History of the Body collection (organized by Jean-Jacques Courtine, Alain Corbin and Georges Vigarello). The discourse analysis were made based in the works of Helena Katz, Gilles Lipovetsky, Nikolas Rose, David Le Breton, José Luiz Aidar Prado and Jurandir Freire Costa. Vogue shows concepts of bodies who value the thinness, youth and smooth skin, conquered through body manipulation and constant consumption. Although some positivity certainly can be found in worship to contemporary body, the privilege of only one type of body as valid and desirable places in the darkness all other possibilities of bodily existence. Observing this situation allows to build a critique that aims to liberty and to the emancipation of corporeality. Prizes by the need to see what is hidden beneath the visible body / A presente pesquisa tem por objetivo investigar a noção de corpo contemporâneo apresentada pela revista Vogue.

Le discours médiatique en Arabie Saoudite après les évènements du 11 septembre 2001 / The media discourse in Saudi Arabia after the events of September 11, 2001

Alhomoud, Eiman 29 September 2017 (has links)
Until the events of September 11, 2001, the discourse conveyed by the Saudi media has remained confined in a complete archaism, both on the level of construction and transmission. Devoid of any objectivity and creativity, this discourse has been characterized by its aversion for the real social, political and cultural issues that havepreoccupied the Saudi society since this country became the first oil producer in the world and the first importer-in the Arab Persian Gulf- of manufactured products. This work attempts to provide a reading of the evolution of the Saudi media discourse after the events of September 11, 2001. A corpus of 113 selected articles published by the local press has been given a thorough analysis to follow this evolution and identify its contours. The examination of this corpus has allowed us to identify the emergence, within the Saudi society, of two modes of thinking. The first one is qualified as liberal andis represented by many influential intellectuals working for more reforms and for the opening of the Saudi culture to the outside. As for the opposite mode of thinking, it is embodied by the defenders of a traditional line who estimate that the opening to the West would constitute a threat to the Saudi identity and culture.

Arab Spring in press. Study of historical event discourse.

Ahmed kamel, Fatma 12 December 2018 (has links)
The thesis proposes to study the emergence and the circulation of Arab Spring phrase as event denomination in the press. Its main objective is to examine the process of naming and qualifying historical events in the media represented here by the written press. Going back over the course of a key phrase in the immediate history is the central object of the study. The research is a case of media discourse analysis. It uses several theoretical fields crossing language sciences and communication sciences. The approach is based on the analysis of discourse as a field of research - on language, discourse and meaning - rooted in the language sciences, where automatic processing presents a tool for study. The corpus of study is composed of the texts of the international written press.Beyond this specific case, the study serves as an example of lexical and discursive analysis of naming events in the written press, as well as the emergence and circulation of a denominational phrase associated with a historical moment.

Toward a theory on gender and emotional management in electoral politics : a comparative study of media discourses in Chile and the United States

Bachmann Cáceres, Ingrid 16 June 2011 (has links)
The role of a political leader often is associated with the emotional attributes of a man, and there is empirical evidence that media coverage reinforces culture-specific emotion display rules for politicians. Feminist communication scholarship also has shown the gendered assumptions manifest in mediated discourses. This dissertation explores the relationship between gender, culture and candidates’ emotionality by examining and comparing news media coverage of the emotional management of Chile’s Michelle Bachelet and the United States’ Hillary Clinton, two female candidates with a viable bid for the presidency in their respective countries. Using a discourse analysis of 1,676 items from national newspapers, news magazines and television newscasts, this study found that cultural differences influence the discursive constructions of these women candidates’ emotionality. In the case of Bachelet, she was deemed as a soft, empathic and ultimately “feminine” candidate who needed to toughen up to convey authority and convince voters that she had the skills, in addition to the charm, to lead a country. In the case of Clinton, she was described mainly as a cold and unsympathetic contender, an unwomanly woman with too much ambition to be likable, and who was portrayed either as fake or frail when being more emotionally open. These mediated discourses suggest the media favored determined understandings for a woman’s place and role, reinforcing socially-shared and culturally-bound meanings about gendered identities. Informed by a feminist theoretical framework, the discussion addresses how these mediated discourses on Bachelet and Clinton illustrate the power of culturally-sanctioned sexism in Chile and the United States to make of gender a restrictive force that keeps women out of the realms of politics and policy. / text

“You are what you eat” : modernity and the construction of self-identity in healthy eating discourses in a case of digital media

Tavares Genovez, Daniela Trocilo January 2011 (has links)
The present study aims at the discussion of the contemporary forms of construction of selfidentity through the perspective prompted by the transformations ocurring in the health field. The increasing influence of the health promotional discourses in the media is reflected in the personal sphere, through the popularization of the “healthy lifestyles”. These are understood as supporting the construction of late modern identities. Within this phenomenon, we discuss the specific implications of the health eating discourse as portrayed in a specialized publication, attempting to the overlapping connections between lifestyle, food and discourse in the shaping of self-identities. Through this perspective, food is approached as bearing fundamental implications to the constitution of the individual. The present study is placed within the sociological theories on late modernity, the discourse analysis theories and the media as the provider of the symbolic content.

The materiality of media discourse : on capitalism and journalistic modes of writing

Berglez, Peter January 2006 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to analyse the relationship between the capitalist hegemonic order and the mass media, with the latter restricted to two elite newspapers (Swedish DN and Slovenian Delo) and the selection of news materials from three bodies of international media coverage: NATO’s military intervention in former Yugoslavia, 1999, the political demonstrations against the IMF and the World Bank in Prague, 2000, and 9/11, 2001. There are two sub-purposes, one theoretical-methodological and one political-democratic. The first sub-purpose is to accomplish an integrative kind of media analysis (Williams 1977) in which the approaches of political economy (emphasising the economic/material) and cultural studies/discourse analysis (emphasising the symbolic/discursive) are supposed to interact. The hypothesis is that such a ‘third way’ approach is possible to achieve through the qualitative analysis of journalistic modes of writing. The second sub-purpose (the political-democratic one) takes an interest in the modes’ political dimensions. In what manners do the identified modes counter-act, or co-produce, miscellaneous political struggles? In addition, the purpose of the study also includes a more practical dimension. In the light of the results, how should one nowadays imagine an emancipating kind of journalism that tries to explain, unmask, or even counteract the mechanisms of the contemporary global capitalist system? The news media material consists of 438 items (articles, photos etc.), which are analysed by means of a cultural materialist CDA (critical discourse analysis). An identified journalistic mode is analysed as: (1) a practice with certain cognitive, discursive and linguistic characteristics, (2) a structural product (as constituted by underlying social and material structures), and (3) a dialectical force, being a potentially active part of an ongoing mode of production (the capitalist or another mode). The last analytical moment is the central one. Two categories of journalistic modes are identified. To begin with, the modes of de-permanence (The Remote control mode, Differentiation, Semiotic compression), which comprises modes that are part of the ‘new economy’, of reflexivity, individualism, consumption, mobility, and flexibility. The political dimension of these modes is that they counteract radical (leftist) politics by reducing emancipation, freedom, justice etc. to a matter of individualism and privatisation. The second category is the modes of permanence (Disconnection, Cognitive recycling), which involves an opposing structural dimension of the capitalist system: the production of reification, i.e. the repression of the complex nature of reality – how seemingly autonomous ‘things’ (spaces, objects etc.) are de facto interwoven with a ‘complex whole’ of various social, material, cultural, economic relations that are in constant motion. More precisely, the here identified modes reify and eternalise an explanatory structure (the modern division of explanatory labour), a particular power (the US) and a particular territory (the nation state), generating the impression that social reality works ‘as usual’ while repressing the complex network-like development of global capitalism and its impact on our lives. By sustaining these increasingly archaic structures, what is politically counteracted is the emergence of ‘the new’: transnational politics and democracy (Beck 1998). The analysis of modes (in total 8) furthermore demonstrates that Swedish DN is more integrated with the capitalist system than Slovenian Delo. The study emphasises the democratic importance of creating new journalistic modes endowed with a transnational journalistic epistemology that decisively include the reality of global capitalism in everyday (local) news reporting when covering and explaining social, political, cultural etc. issues.

Lööv, Rebecka January 2015 (has links)
