La peinture religieuse dans le Haut-Maine au XVIIe siècle / Religious painting in Haut-Maine in the 17th centuryPalonka-Cohin, Anetta 13 December 2014 (has links)
The inventory of 17th-century paintings in churches in the département of Sarthe reveals that painters in Le Mans, hitherto little known, were prolific at that time. This hive of activity gave rise to an artistic scene in the province of Maine, in and around the city of Le Mans, which prolonged the style of mannerism well into the century, until it was replaced by the authority of Parisian, Italian and Flemish masters. A far cry from main artistic centres, Maine painting was generally conservative and repetitive. Above all, it sought to strike religious believers. Religious works by Maine painters during the post-Tridentine era were functional works, content to merely portray a scene. They required little or no talent and copying was very widespread. This thesis shows that the painting scene in and around Le Mans, although doggedly provincial, was dynamic, open to new contributions and full of interesting characters. Their work marked a turning point in regional production and its evolution followed the same trends as the major Parisian currents, albeit with an evitable delay. We shall examine commissioning, the artists, creation, works and the evolution of painting in Le Mans (I). This will be followed by the dictionary of Maine painters (II) and the catalogue of works (III).

Láska, smrt a psaní: Utrpení XYZ / Love, death, and writing: The Sufferings of XYZMusil, Jan January 2021 (has links)
This thesis investigates the intertextual links between The Sufferings of Young Werther by Johann Wolfgang Goethe, which was published originally in 1774, and Utrpení knížete Sternenhocha (The Sufferings of Prince Sternenhoch) by Ladislav Klíma. Their affinities remained unnoticed when the latter text was published for the first time in 1928, although the texts share topics as well as narrative strategies. In both texts, the presence of the beloved person is suplemented by writing, their bodies by a simulacrum. Goethe aestheticises the love suffering drawing on the sentimental tradition of the epistolary novel, whereas Klíma transforms it in his palimpsest employing manneristic techniques and parodies it by excessively thematising the body. In both cases is the writing of the heroes - work, but also fabrication of memory - works as an evidence and a constructed phantasm of their love, the only thing that survives its author in order to preserve the testimony of the love for the reader. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part, called Convergence, show explicit as well as implicit links between the analysed texts. The second, called Divergence, contextualises both texts to find their position within several relevant theoretical categories, such as the fantastic, the gothic and mannerism....

GUILD HOUSE.
[EN] Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown were not only transgressors with their theories in the 1960s, but also with their works. The Guild House was one of them, "ordinary" and "extraordinary" at the same time. A transitional building, neither only modern nor only postmodern, but complex and contradictory, that went beyond the conventions of the Modern Movement, transgressing it and collaborating in its overcoming, without looking to the great masters, but to the present and the future.
An exercise of experimentation in a social housing building for old people with few resources, which includes a complex program, full of historical and ordinary symbolism in favor of the semantics of conventional elements, distortions and different types of ornamentation, with which they turned their gaze to the past to look to the future, approaching social reality through the acceptance of popular American tastes. Supported by irony, they promoted an apparently ordinary architecture, although complex and cultured in essence, an archetype of the architecture of "the ugly and the ordinary" as opposed to the "heroic and original", a manifesto of the "decorated shed", and probably, the first great "post-modernist" building. / Arnau Orenga, PI. As main theme we rely mainly on the possibilities opened up by Mannerism to the artwork (with a focus on poetry) with regard to rape, defilement, reframing itself within and beyond its history. This Mannerist reading of Camoniana and Seniana’s work took place in an allegorical way, not historical in order to enable us, in principle, to investigate the actual place of the poet Camões and Sena mark in his writings and in retrospect, seek to present a relationship between the concepts of "transformar apetite em razão", the author of Os Lusíadas, and "Testemunho", the author of Metamorfoses. For both authors, the poet is a being in exile on the sidelines, distressed by the fragmented world in which he lives, by no-reasons that undergoes daily and you see the word the possibility of subverting the order of profane it. Thus, the poetry of Camões and Sena Jorge constitutes stage for the manifestations of inner experiences that have eroticism, war, exile, making, from the individual, the poetic word touch the universals of human existence . The two poets are paradoxical: writers of his time and ahead of him, when speaking of themselves, reach more universal humanity

John Donne : de la satire à l'humour / John Donne : from satire to humorBenard, Clementine 01 October 2018 (has links)
This study aims to show how the satiric writings of Elizabethan poet John Donne (1572-1631) display a specific aesthetics, which is also to be found in all his work and not only in his satiric texts. Although it has traditionally been considered as a fringe element in Donne's poetry, satire appears in other writings, thus disclosing a ''satiric spirit''. By playing and distancing himself from the literay, social and religious standards of his time, the poet's work reveals an aesthetics ruled by doubt and melancholy. According to the system of medicine called ''humorism'', melancholy is a black fluid that brings us to humour and comedy : even though they have been rarely examined in Donne studies, these concepts do stand out after a close reading of the least sought-after poems. It thus unites and makes the whole of Donne's poetry coherent. Not only is he the best representative of the metaphysical poets, he is also a satirist as well as a humorist.

Antonio Campi (1523-1587). Mezi manýrou a barokem. / Antonio Campi (1523-1587). Between Mannerism and Baroque.Hlušičková, Pavla January 2015 (has links)
The dissertation evaluated the formal, stylistic and contextual analysis of the painting oeuvre of the Cremonese native Antonio Campi. Monographic elaboration of Campi's oeuvre complement to the existing range of syntheses a number of information that has been in the literature so far omitted. The work assessed Antonio's oeuvre on the revision of archival material preserved in Milanese and Cremonese state and church archives, as well as by the means of thorough study of the secondary literature. Chronology of Campi's production was based on the stylistic and formal analysis and at the same time it has been enriched by a number of comparisons of the Lombardy-Ligurian region. Perspective at Antonio's oeuvre was accompanied by drawings and panel paintings that have emerged in the art market in recent years. With this thorough analysis, it became clear that the simple definition of an older Italian scientific literature that had Antonio Campi understood as a painter, who by his work formed the basis of Caravaggio chiaroscuro approach in the last decades of the 16th century and in the early years of the 17th age, proved to be inaccurate. It became clear that with this view we can not identify ourselves any more. Constant changes in mood, surprise, unpredictability, restlessness and individuality, the...

Perceptions Of Cuteness And BeautyJones, Danielle 01 January 2009 (has links)
Upbringing and psychological make-up inspire individual norms for beauty and cuteness. The mannerist approach in my work is a product of the figural liberties found in cartooning, illustration and art history. By altering facial and bodily features, I relate the proportions of an infant to cuteness and innocence. However, I tailor the photographs to empower the subjects all the while mirroring trends in contemporary pop culture. I'm interested in themes of everyday life, vitality and emotion placed in obscure, imaginary or exaggerated venues. I fictionalize subjects of my reality to compel viewers to identify with and fancy emotions, circumstances, moods and relationships. The intent is to amplify, yet be truer to their existence and idiosyncrasies through figural adaptations.

Paradoxia epidemica in the art of Pieter Bruegel the Elder : an investigation into sixteenth-century parodyCornew, Clive 01 1900 (has links)
Pieter Bruegel the Eider's paintings De verkeerde wereld, Het gevecht tussen Karnava/ en Vasten,
Luilekker/and, Dulle Grief and Landschap, met Icarus' val are interpreted as sixteenth-century parodies
using the paradoxia epidemica as a tropic means for interpreting the artist's wit, irony, parody and
picaresque stance towards his source material and his milieu. Where applicable, other works relating to a
particular argument are also discussed. As a result of this investigation, an original contribution has been
made in the literature on both Bruegel and parody as a form of visual communication. / Art History, Visual Arts & Musicology / M.A. (History of Art)
