A Nação como possibilidade: imprensa e manuais didáticos na difusão da identidade nacional no Brasil oitocentista / The nation as a possibility: the press and didatic manuals dissemination of national identity in neneteenth-century Brazil

Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo averiguar a relevância da produção escrita oitocentista no ordenamento da Monarquia brasileira. Para tanto, com base nos escritos de dois letrados que tiveram atuação bastante destacada no âmbito da referida produção, sendo eles o pernambucano José Ignácio de Abreu e Lima e o fluminense Joaquim Manuel de Macedo, procuro analisar a interação das elites brasileiras com dois meios de expressão que foram, por elas, tomados enquanto instrumentos destinados à tarefa que se colocava no contexto do citado ordenamento: a construção do Estado e da nação. A partir dos manuais didáticos de história do Brasil e dos artigos publicados em diferentes periódicos que circularam no país, tento verificar como Abreu e Lima e Macedo recorreram, em épocas distintas, a esses meios de expressão para promover seus projetos políticos e marcar posições diante de seus adversários, sinalizando a importância dos tais escritos enquanto formas específicas de espaço público atreladas à organização do regime monárquico brasileiro. / The aim of this research is to investigate the written production relevancy of 19th century to the organization of Brazilian Monarchy. For this, based on studies produced by two writers with an outstanding involvement referring to this production, called as José Ignácio de Abreu e Lima, from Pernambuco, Brazil and Joaquim Manuel de Macedo, from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, I intend to analyze the Brazilian elites with two expression means, which have been chosen by them as a way to promote the State and Nation construction. From Brazilian history didactic manuals and articles published in several Brazilian newspapers, I try to identify how Abreu e Lima and Macedo have used them in different times regarding to promote their own political projects and stand their point of view against their rivals, showing the importance of such productions as a public expression venue connected to the organization of Brazilian Monarchy.

Pesquisa do Estado da Bahia - FAPEB / This document aims at comprehending the formation process of the national awareness as well as the Brazilian identity in Ana Miranda?s works, focusing on the novel Desmundo (1996). To do so, it is taken into account the relevance of the important post-modern concept of ?presenting of the past? in the literary and contemporary texts and the way this concept introduces issues related to the process of construction of the national identity in the novels of historiographic metafiction. Therefore, based upon a descriptive and analytical bibliographical methodology, it is presented theoretical and methodological discussions raised by scholars of post-modernity, formation of awareness and national identity such as: Hutcheon (1991), Baudrillard (1991; 2001), Jameson (2002; 2006), White (2001), Renan (1997), Anderson (2008), Santos (1997), Guibernau (1997), Bhabha (1997; 1998), Hall (2003), Bauman (2005), and so forth. In the analysis of Miranda?s works it is discussed the formation of the Brazilian nation and the national awareness since its genesis ? the colonial period - , which is, broadly speaking, based on transgression, prejudice and discrimination, in a taken-as ?rigorous? classes structure and power abuse. Furthermore, it is examined the parody presence of the foundational myth, as well as the origin of the nation and the Brazilian identity, emphasizing the importance of the individual acknowledgement. To sum up, it can be noticed that the protagonist of the novel can be taken as a standard of representation of this process of identity acknowledgement. Such process is, at the same time, a plural, multifaceted and decentralized one. / O principal objetivo nesta disserta??o ? a compreens?o do processo de forma??o da consci?ncia nacional e da identidade brasileira na prosa da escritora Ana Miranda, com ?nfase no romance Desmundo (1996). Para tanto, considera-se a relev?ncia do importante conceito p?s-moderno de ?presentifica??o do passado? nos textos liter?rios contempor?neos, e nos modos como esse conceito introduz quest?es relativas ao processo de constru??o da na??o e da identidade nacional nos romances de metafic??o historiogr?fica. Nowadays, this thematic sets up a transient scenario, marked initially by neglect of people with the patrimony, then by the appreciation of the collective memory and, recently, by the possibility of association with the economic development. / Este trabalho aborda o processo de tombamento arquitetônico e urbanístico instituído em São João del-Rei, considerando as deliberações e a abrangência dos atos de salvaguarda em nível federal, estadual e municipal, assim como a reação da população perante o patrimônio dentro de um contexto de transformações urbanas associado à busca pelo progresso econômico. O campo de conflito criado em torno da fronteira de tombamento federal e dos interesses locais envolvendo os agentes comerciais e técnicos do Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional também é analisado. Ao estender a temática até hoje, um cenário transitório se configurou, marcado inicialmente pelo descaso da população para com o patrimônio, avançando para a valorização da memória coletiva e, recentemente, atrelando-o à possibilidade de desenvolvimento econômico.

Kampen om erkännande : En kvalitativ studie om hur elever från en förberedelseklass på gymnasiet presenterar sina identiteter i sina berättelser om sin skolsituation

Ett ovanförperspektiv avseende kartläggningen av nyanlända elevers behov präglar det svenska samhället och skolsystem. Detta leder således till en indelning av elever i språkintroducerande förberedelseklasser som separeras från elever från ordinarie klasser vilket försvårar integrering. Syftet med denna studie är att fånga aktörens perspektiv genom en så kallad narrativ identitetsanalys som ämnar att undersöka hur 7 elever som läser Språkintroduktion på en gymnasieskola i Stockholm presenterar sina identiteter i deras berättelser om sin skolsituation. Detta har genomförts med hjälp av livshistorieintervjuer om elevernas erfarenheter och tolkningar av händelser på skolan. Berättelser rörande bytet av skolsystem, möte med klassen samt framtidsförhoppningar har presenterats på olika sätt av eleverna. De mest framträdande berättelserna utgörs av ontologiska berättelser som bygger på individens subjektiva upplevelser och självbild, offentliga berättelser om integration samt konceptuella berättelser om rasism. Eleverna skildrar en likställd bild av lärarnas och elevernas roller på skolan, en samhörighet med sina klasskamrater, kamp om erkännande från de andra eleverna och makthavarna på skolan, samt ett lyckligt avslut i sina berättelser om framtiden vilka beror på deras uppfattningar av sig själva. Det lyckliga slutet skildrar således en ovisshet om framtiden där en osäkerhet avseende den genomgående kampen om erkännande framgår. / An overarching perspective regarding the mapping of newly arrived pupils's needs characterizes the Swedish society and school system. This leads to a breakdown of pupils in so-called “Language Introductory Preparation Classes” which separates newly arrived pupils from pupils in ordinary classes and complicates integration. The purpose of this study is to capture the pupils`s perspective through a so-called narrative identity analysis aimed to investigate how 7 pupils from a Language Introduction- class at a high school in Stockholm, Sweden present their identities through their stories about their school situation. This has been implemented using interviews about the pupils' experiences and interpretations of events that has taken place at their school and class. Stories regarding the change of school system, the meeting with the class and future hopes have been presented in different ways by the students. The most prominent stories consist of ontological narratives based on the individual's subjective experiences and self-image, public stories about integration, and conceptual stories about racism. The students portray a similar picture of the roles of teachers and students at the school, a community with their fellow classmates, a struggle for recognition from the other students and the rulers of the school, as well as a hope for a happy ending and a resolution of the fight for recognition. The happy end also depicts an uncertainty about the future where an uncertainty regarding the ongoing struggle for recognition appears.

Com o posicionamento do Brasil na Segunda Guerra Mundial, as comunidades que eram relacionadas a países do Eixo sofriam perseguições por parte das autoridades, além de ataques realizados pela imprensa e parte da população. Nas comunidades alemãs circulavam valores pangermanistas, incentivando a manutenção de costumes e do idioma alemão, e eram comuns sentimentos de pertença à Alemanha entre seus habitantes. Ao lado dos demais expedicionários, jovens destes locais foram convocados para a composição da FEB. A dissertação baseada principalmente em depoimentos orais e escritos estuda questões identitárias envolvidas na participação destes expedicionários. / When Brazil participated in the Second World War, the Brazilian immigrant communities that were related to the Axis Power suffered persecutions by governmental authorities as well as attacks made by the press and part of the population. In the German communities there were ideals based on Pan-Germanism including the use of German language and customs; feelings of belonging to Germany were common among its inhabitants. Beside other members of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB), people from these communities were also drafted. The research, based on different sources especially oral and written testimonies focuses on identity questions about these combatants.

A travers l'étude des récits de voyage de marchands nord-américains se rendant en Grande-Bretagne entre 1776 et 1815, il s'agit d'analyser les transferts culturels de part et d'autre de l'Atlantique, et d’observer l’émancipation progressive de la jeune république nord-américaine vis-à-vis de son ancienne métropole. Il apparaît que ces marchands apportent une contribution essentielle à la construction d'une identité nationale nord-américaine alors en pleine définition. Le séjour outre-Atlantique encourage ce processus puisqu'il permet aux visiteurs de se mesurer à un "Autre" britannique, de prendre conscience de l’existence d’un caractère propre, de vanter la supériorité de leur modèle national, ainsi que de défendre, en tant que marchands, des valeurs spécifiques et une certaine vision de la société nord-américaine. / By studying the travel writings of North American merchants going to Great Britain between 1776 and 1815, we analyse the cultural transfers across the Atlantic and observe the growing emancipation of the young Republic from its former mother country. It appears that these merchants fully contributed to the creation of an American national identity. Their stay in Great-Britain undeniably encouraged this process, as it enabled visitors to measure themselves against a British « Other », to realise what made them truly American, to boast about their superiority, but also, as merchants, to defend specific values and a certain vision of the American society.

This dissertation studies identity formation and race informed by the discipline Whiteness Studies. As such this dissertation conceptualizes Spanish Whiteness historically and analyzes its representation in Spanish narrative in prose and film. This research responds to two questions: 1) How has Spanish culture historically instrumentalized Blackness thus contributing to the creation of the Western’s conceptualization of Whiteness? 2) What does Spanish representation of Empire say about its Whiteness? In an effort to answer these questions, this study is divided into two parts that correspond to the conceptualization and representation of what are termed ‘Situational Whiteness’ and ‘Imperial Spanish Orientalism.’ I argue that both are the result of a Spanish differential exceptionalism based on Orientalist cultural practices of tactical assimilation, by means of which the Black experience is subsumed on the margins as a part of Spanish Whiteness. To prove this hypothesis, Spanish Whiteness is conceptualized for the purpose of exploring the strategies of tactical assimilation of the Spanish Orientalism (Hispanism, Arabism, Africanism, Hispanotropicalism) towards its former colonies in Latin America and Africa. In addition, the contrasting cases of instrumentalization of Blackness as resistance in José Martí and Fernando Ortiz’s notion of Cuban racial ‘counterpoint’ as well as and the racial ‘particularism’ of Joan Maragall and Blas Infante inform cultural notions of Spanish Whiteness as well as its fragmentation. In the second part of this dissertation, the analysis focuses on understudied cases of the Spanish Imperial Whiteness’s representation in relation to Equatorial Guinean and Afro-Cuban Blackness. The overall propose of this research is, on the one hand, to explain how the situational nature of Spanish Whiteness is present throughout foundational moments in diverse forms of Spanish Orientalism; and, on the other hand, to inform Whiteness Studies from a different cultural angle thus providing the discipline with a transnational bridge towards a better understanding of white processes of racial formation, historical strategies and cultural forms of structural domination.

This thesis examines changes and evolvement in conceptual notions of nationalism and national identity from the beginning of the 19th century until present. The thesis is composed of two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part delineates the concepts of nation, national identity and attempts to characterize Czech national identity. Further, it explores the notion in the context of socio-political transformations in our motherland. Moreover, this section looks at notions of education and patriotic education and the way such education was exercised in schools in particular historical periods. The study also concentrates on the concept of mother tongue and its role in building Czech national identity. Comparison of various ways the relationship towards mother tongue in various types of primary schools in this and last century is likewise offered. The practical part consists of two research segments. The first one analyzes various curricula, school material and textbooks from the beginning of the last century until present with emphasis on patriotic education. Emphasis has been put on textbooks intended for the fifth grade of all types of primary schools. 本文針對國人長期存有的「仇韓情緒」進行研究,並認為這樣的社會集體記憶,一方面固然與台韓雙方長期以來的社會脈絡與歷史環境有關,但更重要的是媒體中介的結果,形成一種Hobsbawm所說的創制傳統。因此經由媒體下手,透過不同時期與不同報紙的運動衝突事件報導,進行資料蒐集分析佐以相關文本生產者訪談,希望勾勒出媒體在這波現象背後所扮演的角色。   大致上,從文本的分析後可以知曉,這種仇恨記憶是逐漸的被媒體創制出來,相較於第一時期(1983~1992年)對於韓國較具包容性並以事件為報導基礎,第二時期之後(1992~2010年),媒體的呈現對衝突事件的追蹤或說明逐漸變少、情緒性的花絮或是形容詞變多,並將衝突事件與韓國或韓國人整體構連,出現明顯的仇視對象。此外,不同媒體在報導上也呈現不同的立場,顯示媒體在面對這類與韓國的衝突事件,並不是如此的單純呈現,有其特殊的考量存在。   研究中也發現,在媒體的框架產製過程中,組織的經營考量往往成為文本產製的最終考量,使得仇韓新聞框架以讀者為導向,以新聞商品為前提創制文本。這樣的媒體真實隨著時間的拉長,也逐漸的被認知為一種社會真實,與整個大環境結構變得相互生成,慢慢成為一種「被發明的傳統」,自然地存在於眾人的仇韓集體記憶中,等待下一次的觸發時機並且作為媒體可依歸的新聞商品固定產製公式。
