This master’s thesis focuses on hierarchical dualism through the philosophy of childhood and its
implications for the climate crisis. The main objective is to argue that it is necessary to rethink the
hierarchical dualism between the child and the adult in order for the child to gain a socially
recognised agency, particularly in relation to environmental issues. We believe that ecofeminist
philosophy can contribute to this reflection through its critique of hierarchical dualism. To achieve
this goal, first, we examine three Western conceptions of childhood: two dominant conceptions
in which child/adult dualism is present and an opposing conception without duality or hierarchy.
Second, we focus on ecofeminist philosophy by providing a brief history to understand the
problem of dualism. Then, we analyse two ecofeminist theories to understand the structures of
domination and dualism and a third theory to consider the benefits of overcoming dualism. Third,
we present the possible links between dualism in philosophy of childhood and dualism in
ecofeminist philosophy: the patriarchal system and the oppressive conceptual framework. These
links lead us to the major consequence of hierarchical dualism, the lack of agency of the child, the
woman and nature; we demonstrate how ecofeminist theories can contribute to rejecting the
hierarchical child/adult dualism in order to restore agency to the child. The aim is to propose an
ecofeminist relational ethic as a normative framework, whose limits are also exposed.

[en] The thesis discusses the relationship between the cultic and the sociopolitical dimensions of the Christian faith, expressed in the historical itinerary of the Assemblies of God in Brazil, in the light of the confrontation of anthropological dualism, in view of its necessary overcoming. The research work undertook a theological rereading of the ways in which the denomination in focus developed expressions of Christian faith in the Brazilian religious field. The research also evaluated this specific Church s participation in the public sphere. We identified in this context an instrumentalization of both worship and politics. Thus, such instrumentalization satisfies some of the logics that carry the mark of dualism. Therefore, our research presents a proposal for an integrated articulation between the described dimensions, including the process of overcoming dualism as a discernment and practical consequence of the action of the Holy Spirit in the Church. In this sense, the theological path to an integrated Pentecostal experience is delineated.

Proti dualismu - konceptuální umění ve světle funkcionálně-normativní teorie / Against Dualism - Conceptual Art in the Context of Functional-Normative TheoryBrejcha, Michaela January 2019 (has links)
Title: Against Dualism - Conceptual Art in the Context of Functional-Normative Theory Author: Michaela Brejcha Department: Department of Aesthetics Supervisor: Mgr. Ondřej Dadejík, Ph.D. Abstract: The present dissertation thesis focuses on the problem of theoretical reflection of conceptual art in Anglo American aesthetic discourse in the second half of 20th and the beginning of 21st centuries. It is based on the claim of many conceptual artists and also some theoreticians, which emerged in the nineteen- fifties, that the conceptual art or tendencies have nothing in common with aesthetics or aesthetic theory. This work shows that this presumed discord draws on reduced understanding of what is the aesthetics and, at the same time, this understanding itself is based on the dualistic paradigm, which presents one of the most fundamental frames for our approach to reality. In the context of analysis of selected texts of Anglo American aesthetics, eight particular distinctions of dualism will be defined, which to a great extent contributed to the rejection of aesthetics by conceptual artists, and on the other hand to bad recognition of conceptual art by the aesthetic theory. As an alternative to the dualistic approach in the context of definition of conceptual art, the fluid and dynamic conception of aesthetics...

`Can't nothing heal without pain' : healing in Toni Morrison's BelovedDu Plooy, Belinda 31 January 2004 (has links)
Toni Morrison reinterprets and reconstitutes American history by placing the lives, stories and experiences of African Americans in a position of centrality, while relegating white American history and cultural traditions to the margins of her narratives. She rewrites American history from an alternative - African American woman's - perspective, and subverts the accepted racist and patriarchally inspired `truths' about life, love and women's experiences through her sympathetic depiction of murderous mother love and complex female relationships in Beloved. She writes about oppression, pain and suffering, and of the need for the acknowledgement and alleviation of the various forms of oppression that scar human existence. Morrison's engagement with healing in Beloved forms the central focus of this short dissertation. The novel is analysed in relation to Mary Douglas's `Two Bodies' theory, John Caputo's ideas on progressive Foucaultian hermeneutics and healing gestures, and Julia Martin's thoughts on alternative healing practices based on non-dualism and interconnectedness. Within this interdisciplinary context, Beloved is read as a `small start' to `creative engagement' with alternative healing practices (Martin, 1996:104). / English / M.A. (English)

Women in the Theological Anthropology of the Afrikaans Reformed Tradition
This dissertation examines women in the theological anthropology of the Afrikaans Reformed Churches. The study is set out as follows:
In Chapter 1, a survey of methodology is presented. The exposition of the question about the theological anthropology is done against a poststructural background. Both structuralism and poststructuralism largely put aside existentialism as an inadequate methodology.
Chapter 2 aims to give an overview of the contribution of Michel Foucault. The chapter begins with a discussion of structuralism. This brief overview is then followed by a classification and investigation of the basic aspects of Foucault's approach. The chapter highlights Foucault's rootedness in poststructuralism.
Chapter 3 attempts to explain silence of women in the theological anthropology of Dutch Reformed Church. The central aim of Chapter 3 is to demonstrate, against the development of the women ministries and the discourse about the ordination of women, that the Dutch Reformed Church theological anthropology is deeply influenced by the discursive practices developed during 1928-1932.
Chapter 4 gives an overview of the developments in the theological anthropology of the Dutch Reformed Mission Church, Dutch Reformed Church of Africa and the Uniting Reformed Church of Southern Africa that took place from 1924 until 2002. Different approaches to the women question developed in the course of time. At the heart of the discourse is the shift in the reading process. The developments in the feminist standpoint theory as such led to this displacement.
In Chapter 5 the deconstruction of the theological anthropology are being discussed. Preference is given in this chapter to the concept partnership or transformative relations.
In the concluding chapter [Chapter 6], a poststructural feminist discourse is presented. Selected guidelines that the church may wish to take into account in the deconstructing of the theological anthropology are suggested. In the future, the frame of reference to the women question would likely be poststructural. / Systematic Theology and Theological Ethics / D. Th. (Systematic Theology)

The Bible and literature: a case of biblical influence in some Shona novelsMapara, Jacob 30 November 2003 (has links)
A lot has been written on the development of the Shona novel and the influence of orature on it. This research while acknowledging the importance of such an observation makes yet another one. This other view is that there is also another element that has had a significant impact on the development and growth of the Shona novel. This research has endeavoured to highlight that the Shona novel is a product of the society where it is found which is influenced by The Bible. The novelists Chakaipa, Chidzero, Makari, Musengezi, Tsodzo, Zvarevashe and Ngugi wa Thiong'o's A Grain of Wheat which has been translated into Shona as Tsanga Yembeu have used The Bible as the backbone of their novels. Although these novelists have all used The Bible they have not used it in the same way and for the same purpose. They have used The Bible to justify the themes embedded in their works. This research at the end shows that it is difficult to label a literary product as either a success or a failure. / African Languages / M.A. (African Languages)

A comparison of African Evangelicalism with South African Black theology and Indian Dalit theologyNakah, Victor 06 1900 (has links)
Evangelicals have an unquestionable heritage for involvement in the world and its social problems and the Bible provides a basis for a liberative gospel. For the God of the Bible is not only a God of love and peace, but also of justice and he is therefore on the side of the poor, oppressed and suffering. he has given us a spirit of engagement with the world as salt and light and not escapism. As we give serious consideration to the challenges of liberation theologies, we need to hear the voice who calls his people in every age to go out into the lost and lonely world (as he did), in order to live and love, to witness and serve like him and for him and that is what African Evangelicalism is all about. / Systematic Theology and Theological Ethics / M. Abhishiktananda's non-monistic Advaitic experienceFriesen, John Glenn 01 January 2002 (has links)
The French Benedictine monk Henri Le Saux (Abhishikt.ananda) sought to establish an
Indian Christian monasticism, emphasizing Hindu ad1•aitic experience. He understood advaita
as both nondual and non-monistic. Using phenomenology and comparative philosophy. this
thesis explores his understanding and experience of advaita, comparing it to both traditional
Hinduism and neo-Vedanta, as well as to Christianity and Zen Buddhism. Abhishiktananda's
description of his experience is examined in relation to perception, thinking, action. ontology and
theology. Special attention is given Lo comparing the views of the Hindu sages RamaQa
Maharshi and Gnanananda, both of whom influenced Abbishiktananda.
Abhishiktananda believed that advaita must be directly experienced; this experience is
beyond all words and concepts. He compares Christian apophatic mysticism and Hindu
sannyiisa. This thesis examines his distinction between experience and thought in relation to
recent philosophical discussions.
Abhishiktananda radically reinterprets Christianity. His affirmation of both nonduality
and non-monism was influenced by Christian Trinitarianism, interpreted as an emanation of the
Many from the One. Jesus' experience of Sonship with the Father is an advaitic experience that
is equally available to everyone. Abhishiktananda believes that the early Upanishads report a
similar experience. A monistic interpretation of advaita only developed later with the
"dialectics" of Shankara's disciples. In non-monistic advaita, the world is not an illusion. Using
ideas derived from tantra and Kashmir Saivism, Abhishiktananda interprets mayii as the .fakti or
power of Shiva. He compares .fakti to the Holy Spirit.
Abhishiktananda distinguishes between a pure consciousness experience (nirvikalpa or
kel•ala samudhi) and a return to the world of diversity in sahaja samiidhi. Ramar:ta and
Gnanananda make a similar distinction. Sahaja samadhi is the state of the jf11anmukti, the one
who is liberated while still in the body; it is an experience that is referred to in tantra and in
Kashmir Saivi.\'m . Abhishiktananda never experienced nin•ikalpa samiidhi, but he did experience
sahaja sam&lhi.
The appendix provides one possible synthesis of Abhishiktananda's understanding of
advaita using the ideas of C. G. Jung. / Religious Studies / Thesis (D.Litt. et Phil.)
