Many studies have analyzed the quality of the physical environment available for activities of leisure in specific places for children, focusing in the influence of the physical space in the interpersonal relationships and the comfort and satisfaction generated by the physical characteristics of these spaces. Concern with scholar environment, specially the interest on playgrounds, has been subject of recent studies; however, little attention has been given to the opinion of the user-child in relation to this school environment. In this inquiry of the playground of two state schools of 1? to 4? series of elementary school in the city of Piracicaba, SP, was used: assystematics observations, photographic register of the studied environments, interviews with child-users and behavioral mapping. The main subjects resulting from the analysis of the interviews content were: adaptation, density and interpersonal relationships, and infantile confinement. The results revealed the unsatisfactory conditions of the courtyards, in respect to person-environment relationship. The children demonstrated to be critical, creative and responsible when answering questions related to the quality of the school courtyard. This finding confirms previous studies and leads to the conclusion that the child, as the direct user, should be included as an excellent source of consultation in the planning of the constructed environment / O prop?sito do presente estudo foi analisar a adequa??o do p?tio de escolas do ensino fundamental, segundo o ponto de vista da crian?a estudante, usu?ria direta desse tipo de ambiente, o que pressupunha sua cr?tica a respeito desses espa?os e visava a contribuir para sua melhoria.

No. of bitstreams: 1 2016 - Luciana Janeiro Silva.pdf: 1932605 bytes, checksum: 769b56b9a8925ca62f5ce19ce1f1e204 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-04-28 / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior - CAPES / The current context of construction of the Brazilian Unique Health System (SUS) has been characterized by a process of expansion of the assistance model, notably observed at Rio de Janeiro municipality with the Family Health Strategy (ESF). This expansion, since 2011, has been implementing under the heading of the Family Health Care Center, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, being designed as a co-management between Social Organizations and the Municipal Health Office. Inside this context, this work has the goal of investigating the sense in which the users of the ESF assisted by the Family Health Care Center of Rio accredit to assistance on health. The main goals are: understand the ways of application and assessment of the Family Health Care Centers by the assisted population, learn how users are building their therapeutic trajectory and their aims related to health and discuss the experiences of the assisted population by the ESF model regarding care practices. The research is based on the health concept developed by the philosopher George Canguilhem and the discussion on care developed by autors of the field of colective health, such as Emerson Merhy, Lu?s Cec?lio Oliveira, Ricardo Ayres, Rubem Araujo Mattos, among others. It is a qualitative study that has used the ?life narrative? modality as a way of construction of the empirical material, understanding it as an opportune way to achieve the leading senses of the research subjects, according to what they remember and to what they elaborate about their lives and, more specifically, on the object of study. Interviews with twelve users nominated by the Family Health team were produced, as well as an empirical material organized in three categories, Family Health Care Center and Care on Health. In the category of Integrality it is possible to notice the limits of integration of the ESF to other assisting or care services, inside or outside health sector. The constant changes of professionals (more strictly related to the medical team) are not satisfactory to the users and have negatively affected the construction of the integrality of the assistance. In the second category we notice that the Family Health Care Center occupies a core role on the lives of the interviewed, being a reference on the search of their health necessities. Besides that, the users also indicate that they build their own nets of assistance after long searches for treatment and social help associations, associating it with the public and private systems. Regarding the Care on Health we can notice that it is expressively credited to biomedical science, diagnosis technologies and to the medication as central and major practices. We can also notice an intense demand of the interviewees for a sensible listening to the different questions that involves their lives and affect their health and care. In this sense, at the same time they value medical-diagnosis treatments and medication, they ask for their doubts, concerns as well as their life knowledge to be better welcomed and understood / A Aten??o B?sica em Sa?de tem se caracterizado por um processo de expans?o do modelo assistencial, notoriamente observado no munic?pio do Rio de Janeiro, com ?nfase na Estrat?gia Sa?de da Fam?la (ESF).

The value of personalised consumer product design facilitated through additive manufacturing technology

Abdul Kudus, Syahibudil I. January 2017 (has links)
This research attempted to discover how Additive Manufacturing (AM) can best be used to increase the value of personalised consumer products and how designers can be assisted in finding an effective way to facilitate value addition within personalisable product designs. AM has become an enabler for end-users to become directly involved in product personalisation through the manipulation of three-dimensional (3D) designs of the product using easy-to-use design toolkits. In this way, end-users are able to fabricate their own personalised designs using various types of AM systems. Personalisation activity can contribute to an increment in the value of a product because it delivers a closer fit to user preferences. The research began with a literature review that covered the areas of product personalisation, additive manufacturing, and consumer value in product design. The literature review revealed that the lack of methods and tools to enable designers to exploit AM has become a fundamental challenge in fully realising the advantages of the technology. Consequently, the question remained as to whether industrial designers are able to identify the design characteristics that can potentially add value to a product, particularly when the product is being personalised by end-users using AM-enabled design tools and systems. A new value taxonomy was developed to capture the relevant value attributes of personalised AM products. The value taxonomy comprised two first-level value types: product value and experiential value. It was further expanded into six second-level value components: functional value, personal-expressive value, sensory value, unique value, co-design value, and hedonic value. The research employed a survey to assess end-users value reflection on personalised features; measuring their willingness to pay (WTP) and their intention to purchase a product with personalised features. Thereafter, an experimental study was performed to measure end-users opinions on the value of 3D-printed personalised products based on the two value types: product value and experiential value. Based on the findings, a formal added value identification method was developed to act as a design aid tool to assist designers in preparing a personalisable product design that embodies value-adding personalisation features within the product. The design method was translated into a beta-test version paper-based design workbook known as the V+APP Design Method: Design Workbook. The design aid tool was validated by expert designers. In conclusion, this research has indicated that the added value identification method shows promise as a practical and effective method in aiding expert designers to identify the potential value-adding personalisation features within personalisable AM products, ensuring they are able to fully exploit the unique characteristics and value-adding design characteristics enabled by AM. Finally, the limitations of the research have been explained and recommendations made for future work in this area.

Intercell Interference Management in an OFDM-based Downlink

Heyman, Jessica January 2006 (has links)
<p>Efficient radio resource management is of paramount importance for achieving the high bit rates targeted by the 3GPP for the 3GPP Long-Term Evolution. The radio air interface must be able to provide both high peak bit rates and acceptable cell-edge bit rates. This thesis therefore investigates three methods which try to combine the peak bit rate of a reuse-1 system with the cell-edge bit rate of a reuse-3 system in an OFDM-based downlink. These methods are soft frequency reuse, reuse partitioning and one variation of soft frequency reuse, reuse-1 with prioritization.</p><p>In static simulations with one user per cell and a system load of 100 percent, a Shannon capacity gain of up to 18 percent at the 10th percentile is shown with reuse partitioning compared to a reuse-1 system. This gain comes coupled with a loss of only 5 percent at the median. Soft frequency reuse is also investigated statically and shows a 13 percent gain at the 10th percentile compared to a reuse-1 system. Having a lower 10th percentile gain than reuse partitioning, it also shows a slightly smaller loss of 4 percent at the median and a much smaller loss at the 90th percentile.</p><p>Dynamic simulations with a traffic model and multiple users per cell offer a more realistic scenario and show that the proposed intercell interference management methods do not provide the same throughput gains in the dynamic case at low system loads. If interference is not an issue, interference coordination is still costly in terms of limiting bandwidth and/or decreasing the scheduling gain, but provides no significant interference reduction. At low system loads, reuse-1 is therefore the best scheme although interference coordination might prove necessary to provide edge-user throughput at high loads. For such purposes, soft frequency reuse is shown to be a potential candidate and although not investigated in a dynamic setting, reuse partitioning is believed to have similar performance. The traffic model chosen in this thesis only allows study of low system loads but at these loads, soft frequency reuse performs promisingly close to a reuse-1 system.</p>

Users from a role perspective : A model to provide a user-centered system development process

Johansson, Ida, Johansson, Stina January 2007 (has links)
<p>Today there exist several systems that lack usability. The reasons are, among others, the pressure to add more features in the system, but also that focus has been earlier on technology and functionality. It becomes more important to think of the user, so that systems can be more usable. By focusing on the user, the user experience can enhance, which results in more satisfied users.</p><p>User involvement in the system development process is one way to learn and receive information about the user. There are several ways of doing that. One way is to create user portraits from existing user models. We have studied different user models and lack a model that includes both tasks and goals; for example one of the existing models focus on user goals and another on relations with the system.</p><p>The purpose with this final thesis is to create a model to describe users as roles providing a more effective and generalized user-centered system development process.</p><p>To create this model, the role profile model, we studied existing theories. By them we were influenced both by good and less good things. The theoretical study resulted in a tentative model that we tested by interview and observe six buyers within the manufacturing industry. This resulted in two role profiles; the strategic buyer and purchase planner. From the result of the interviews and observations, we improved the tentative role profile model to our final model. There were some factors that did not fit in the tentative model and some that we added.</p><p>The role profile model contains three elements; objectives, requirements and context. These elements consist of a number of attributes that are important when surveying a role profile. The uniqueness with the role profile model is the fact that it includes both role specific attributes and attributes that puts the role profile into a context. The model contains for example work process, system requirements, responsibility and authority.</p><p>The role profile is at part of a greater context. There are design philosophies that concern the whole system development process; from survey the user to design and test. Our role profile model only handles the first parts, the user and tasks, due to the time limitations.</p><p>We have created a practical procedure that we recommend to facilitate the usage of the role profile model. The practical procedure is based on our choices of method when testing the tentative role profile model. The central in our practical procedure are interviews and observations. It is important to plan the company visits so that all necessary information is received.</p><p>The usage of the role profile can for example contribute with: knowledge and understanding of the users, structured work procedure, a generally accepted terminology and a user-centered design process.</p><p>This final thesis has been performed on commission of Lawson Software. We had continuously discussions with them about usability and the role profile model. We have studied fields of applications for the role profile model at Lawson. We think they can use the model in the product requirement process, design and evaluation, work with composite applications, user understanding and user priority and introduction of new employees.</p> / <p>Idag finns det ett flertal system som har bristande användar¬vänlighet.

Decentralised Management and Community Participation : A Minor Field Study about Irrigation and Communication in Central India

Glaas, Erik January 2007 (has links)
<p>India and many other developing countries confront serious problems of declining water tables. In India there is no real water shortage, but ineffective use of surface water leads to freshwater run-off. By building dams and irrigation water systems the Indian government has been trying to find a more effective use of surface water and thereby increase the agricultural productivity. But mismanagement of irrigation systems by local governments called for alternative management techniques, and during the last decades the central Indian government has been trying to decentralise management and governance of irrigation water to local water users. This Minor Field Study (MFS) focuses on a local implementation of Participatory Irrigation Management in the Indian state Madhya Pradesh. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the way the local government handles the decentralisation of irrigation water management, by identify and illuminate communication channels. The thesis is built on the basic idea that functioning environmental communication is the key to reach a functioning decentralised and sustainable water management. Interviews with local government officials, citizens of a local village, and staff from a locally involved NGO within a case study constitute most of the empirical data. Theories of decentralisation of natural resource management, community participation, communication, and NGO cooperation are presented. With starting point in the empirical material and the presented theories has way the local government handles the decentralisation process, and the role of the locally involved NGO, been analysed. The study shows shortcomings in: education of stakeholders, communication training among government officials, trust in the capability of local water users, and communication between stakeholders. The study also enlighten the government officials fear of losing political power, the NGOs role as communication channel, and the formation of locally rooted organisations.</p>

Musikavdelningar ur ett tidsperspektiv : En kvalitativ studie av musikavdelningarna på fem folkbibliotek / Music Departments from a Time Perspective : A Qualitative Study of the Music Departments of Five Public Libraries

Thegel, Esther January 2009 (has links)
<p>The aim of this study is to examine how work at music departments in public libraries has changed with time. To analyze this, the role of music libraries as well as music library users, selection, holdings, acquisition and technological development have been examined. The examined data consists of qualitative interviews with music librarians and library assistants at public libraries in Sweden. To get a time perspective, handbooks and articles about music departments in libraries have also been analyzed.</p><p>This study emanates from Sanna Talja’s discourse analysis of music libraries in Finland. In her study of Finnish music libraries she has found three discourses that give the library different roles in society. The first discourse, <em>The General Education Repertoire</em>, states that the role of the music library is to educate the citizens by supplying a broad record collection with “classics” from all kinds of genres. The second discourse, <em>The Alternative Repertoire</em>,<em> </em>states that the role of the library is to be an alternative to commercial music and the record industry by providing alternative music, that can’t be found everywhere. The third discourse, <em>The Demand Repertoire</em>, states that the role of the library is to satisfy the library users’ needs and thus adapt the collection and acquisitions to the local demand.</p><p>The study shows that all three discourses are present at the public libraries examined in this master’s thesis. My interviewees state that they want to offer a broad collection with all genres represented but they find it also important to provide alternative music that is difficult to find elsewhere. At the same time, a demand repertoire, where the collection is more adapted to users’ wishes and needs, gets more common and librarians have a less critical attitude towards certain genres that were formerly banned at public libraries.</p><p>The study also shows that work at public libraries has changed a lot with time. The music departments started with only listening service, began later to loan their music collections to the users and now even provide music files that can be downloaded and played on mp3-players. Loan figures of phonograms remain high, but have started to drop, which can partly be due to downloading and the fact that the number of young music library users, such as adolescents, has gone down. The technological development has also changed work at the music library, among other things information research, acquisition and selection. Even though technological development has changed the work and tasks at music libraries, the role of the librarian is still quite the same. An important task still is to search for and provide information even though the strategies and facilities are different.</p>
