"Futurshocked Zombies or Hopeful Monsters" : discursos (pós)-humanistas em Neuromancer de William Gibson

Ferreira, Alberto José Viralhadas January 2009 (has links)

The changing role of nazi characters in Schindler's list, Valkyrie and The reader

Vieira, Fernando Zan January 2016 (has links)
Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Inglês: Estudos Linguísticos e Literários, Florianópolis, 2016. / Made available in DSpace on 2017-08-15T04:01:57Z (GMT). Recently, new cinematographic productions have also portraryed German characters during the Nazi period as saviors, resisters and even heroes. This problem is the starting point from this thesis: Schindler?s List (1993) portrays a German industrialist who saved about 1,200 Jewish people from death; Valkyrie (2008) shows a German Army officer who conspired to kill Hitler; and The Reader (2008) has as its protagonist a Nazi agent whose participation in a Holocaust crime is somehow neutralized by a more human portrayal. These different portrayals of Nazi characters can be identified by an analysis of (1) the overall narratives of the films; and (2) by the constitutive elements of filmic image (such as editing, photography, lighting, sound, among other). These films will be compared to films in which Nazi characters are shown as the antagonists whose role as murderers and criminals is well known: Sophie?s Choice (1982), Escape From Sobibor (1987) and Saving Private Ryan (1998). Postmodern theory is proper to contextualize and to explain these new representations, as its skepticism towards master narratives gives room for historical revisionism. Furthermore, such representations arise from a certain temporal distancing between the historical fact and the filmic production which portrays it. Microhistory, which recovers events related to specific characters who protagonize these historical events, such as the main characters of the films in analysis, also helps to contextualize the films?production. The dissertation also presents an analysis of the films? use of representation, stereotypes, melodrama, and the casting of stars in the roles of Nazi characters.

Ravanello, Ricardo Brisolla January 2006 (has links)
The present work proposes to analyze language in the production of discourse while attitude of denial toward the values scattered by the late capitalism. For this purpose, the work chooses to analyze one of the several ways to produce resistance that tries to subvert the logic of consumption. In this study, we opted for analyzing the audiovisual materials produced in a cineclubbist environment. This moment is understood as being the greatest and totally spread expression of the late capitalism in an advanced stage of the accumulation process, where the capital turns into image. The consumption and the spectacle will be seen as the main generators of tension, anguish and way of social domination and manipulation, being this way one of the points in which we imagine to find resistance or subversive postures. The location of a postmodern environment solely serves as backdrop for discussing these two current problematic issues, the consumption and the spectacle and, mainly, for verifying how an activity such as cineclubbism can motivate the production of subversive discourses / Submitted by Jovina Laurentino Raimundo (jovina.raimundo@unisul.br) on 2018-01-17T16:30:46Z No. of bitstreams: 1 83405_Ricardo.pdf: 21135736 bytes, checksum: 0bf30d1199fc081a74e14dd541959797 (MD5) / Approved for entry into archive by Gheovana Figueiredo (gheovana.figueiredo@unisul.br) on 2018-01-17T17:10:15Z (GMT) No. of bitstreams: 1 83405_Ricardo.pdf: 21135736 bytes, checksum: 0bf30d1199fc081a74e14dd541959797 (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2018-01-17T17:10:15Z (GMT).

Passos, Rodolfo Pereira. January 2013 (has links)
Based in the philosophic work Ser e Tempo (1927), by Heidegger, as our main point, and in accordance with questions as being and truth, we have tried to establish possible parameters to interpret the "blindness" proposed by José Saramago, capable of affecting the contemporary man. We have the post-modern world as the center stage with the intention to expose and to ask about the postmodernism and to reflect about the relation between contemporary society and the consequent relation with Saramago's fiction. Heideggerian concepts will be used as incentive to comprehend Saramago's ideas as dasein, being-in-the-world, who, angst, and being-towards-death. The truth will be deconstructed to show that the rational subject lost his strength inside the complex postmodern world. We'll also think about this blind subject and his walk through a maze city. The reality became plural and the human being could no longer see his epistemological safety. We'll try to understand how the Portuguese writer has utilized these data through an ontological dominant to analyze the human being and his connection with a world marked by a state of blindness, and then, through the fiction, to establish his questionings based on ethic and existence / Mestre

Orientador: Rosemary Arrojo / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Estudos da Linguagem / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-03T17:16:16Z (GMT). Based on three of his principie books - The science of translatíon (1977/1982), Kognition und Obersetzen (Cognition and Translation) (1988) and Know/edge and Skills in Translator Behaviour (1996) - this dissertation examines the theoretical of foundation of the concept of "science" exposed by this author. Starting with the theorization of Wilss, l argue that there is a conflict between some of the tacit presuppositions of this concept (when used according to the "philosophical" Cartesian paradigm like in the case of Wilss) and the characteristics of any translation. I develop my argument on the basis of two concepts that are indispensable for any theorization about translation and that constitute an important link in this analysis: "meaning" and "subject". Besides, I discuss the relation that Wilss establishes between his own "scientific" work and the sitemological mode of f the natural sciences. According to Wilss, the latter model is based exclusively on the Cartesian philosophy. My claim is that the application of the concept of science obeying the principies of this paradigm is problematic when related to translation practice, and also in comparison to the usage of this concept in some works of contemporary natural scientists and of theorists of science who have led an extensive controversy about this scientific mode!. Thus, largue that not only the problems and contradictions that exist in the theorization of Wilss but also the concept of language and subject adopted by an important part of the cootemporary scientific community make evident the impossibility to deve / Doutorado / Tradução / Doutor em Linguística Aplicada

We initiate the study considering that contemporary art processes a disruption with traditional categories, promoting an increasing contamination among the plastic languages, embracing other places of knowledge in its construction, adopting new technologies, generating, thus, new formal modalities. We work with the hypothesis that object and installation categories are presented as new possibilities of plastic production, demanding new operational concepts for its artistic construction as for its process of critical understanding. It has for objective to demonstrate theoretically that Brazilian contemporary art, in the modalities object and installation, possesses a consistent formularization, allowing diverse artists to appropriate of its concepts and to develop personal poetics, constituting a production of possible evaluation and interrelation with other disciplines instruments, approaching art to other fields of knowledge. Our intention is to inquire how these modalities present in the expositions and divulgation circuits of contemporary art in Triângulo Mineiro e Alto Paranaíba, MG, and how it can be conceptualized from its configuration, distinction and or contamination, that is, appropriations, transformations and adjustments in its dialogue with the environment, with other plastic languages and with other places of the knowledge. This inquiry will be made by sampling: understanding the process of creation and production of two artists who had participated in the project Panorama ¿ 1998: Produção Plástico/Visual, realized by the Secretaria Municipal de Cultura de Uberlândia, MG. The research is justified when locating, in time and in a determined accomplishment space, threedimensional objects and installations in art, turning itself toward a plastic production, through its process of creation and the process of understanding the work of art in its cultural circuit / Doutorado
