Design of Cellular and GNSS Antenna for IoT Edge Device

Broumas, Ioannis January 2019 (has links)
Antennas are one of the most sensitive elements in any wireless communication equipment. Designing small-profile, multiband and wideband internal antennas with a simple structure has become a necessary challenge. In this thesis, two planar antennas are designed, simulated and implemented on an effort to cover the LTE-M1 and NB-IoT radio frequencies. The cellular antenna is designed to receive and transmit data over the eight-band LTE700/GSM/UMTS, and the GNSS antenna is designed to receive signal from the global positioning system and global navigation systems, GPS (USA) and GLONASS. The antennas are suitable for direct print on the system circuit board of a device. Related theory and research work are discussed and referenced, providing a strong configuration for future use. Recommendations and suggestions on future work are also discussed. The proposed antenna system is more than promising and with further adjustments and refinement can lead to a fully working solution.

Impacts écologiques de la présence de quelques substances prioritaires (pesticides agricoles, hydrocarbures aromatiques polycycliques, polychlorobiphényles, organo-métaux) dans un écosystème littoral anthropisé, le complexe lac Ichkeul- lagune de Bizerte / Ecological impacts of the presence of some priority substances (agricultural pesticides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, organo-metals) in an anthropogenic coastal ecosystem, the complex Ichkeul lake - Bizerte Lagoon.

Ben Salem, Fida 22 July 2015 (has links)
The main objective of this work was to conduct an ecotoxicological study of the complex Ichkeul Lake-Bizerta lagoon. A survey of the most used agricultural pesticides in the watershed of the complex was conducted to determine the most problematic compounds. The survey of pesticides use with farmers, dealers of pesticides and the Regional Commissioner for Agricultural Development Bizerte has helped to identify the most used pesticides in agricultural areas of the watershed of the complex Ichkeul Lake-Bizerta lagoon: iodosulfuron, the mesosulfurone, 2,4D, glyphosate and fenoxaprop as herbicides active materials, tebuconazol epoxiconazol as fungicide active materials and deltamethrin as insecticides. Then, the concentrations of pesticides, PAHs and PCBs were determined in the sediment of the complex. The results showed a contamination of some complex sites. Stations located in the lagoon of Bizerte have a level of PAH in excess of permissible limits. Pesticide concentrations exceed the standards at some sites from the Ichkeul Lake. Finally, the impact of these pollutants on microbial communities and nematode density was determined. CCA combines the results of chemical analyzes and T-RFLP data of bacterial communities shows that the bacterial communities of the lake are influenced by pesticides while those of the lagoon are influenced by PAHs. The distribution of T-RFs showed the presence of specific T-RFs in contaminated sites: the T-RF 114 bp characterizes the most contaminated site in pesticides, microorganisms associated with the T-RF are probably microorganisms resistant to pesticides and capable of degrading this pollutant. The composition of bacterial communities was determined by 454 pyrosequencing of the most representative sites: the least contaminated of the complex, the most contaminated by PAH, the most contaminated by pesticides and a site with multiple PAH-pesticides contamination. The impact of the presence of pesticides on the density of free living marine nematodes was studied. The taxonomic analysis of the pyrosequencing data grouped the sequences into 44 different phyla. In general, Proteobacteria were the most dominant phyla with predominance of Gammaproteobacteria, Alphaproteobacteria and Deltaproteobacteria within the sediments. Besides Proteobacteria, there are a number of sequences affiliated to the following major phyla detected in all four sites: Chloroflexi, Bacteroidetes, Nitrospirae, Planctomycetes, Actinobacteria, Gemmatimonadetes, Firmicutes, Cyanobacteria, Spirochaetes, Acidobacteria. The bacterial communities of the four sites shared 211 common OTUs. The Lake Ichkeul was characterized by 219 specific OTUs and the Bizerta lagoon by 235 OTUs. Site 2, the most contaminated by pesticides has the highest abundance of free living marine nematodes.

Environmental problems can increase due to anthropogenic activities or natural phenomena. Indonesia is an archipelagic country that consists of many islands and coastal regions, where the growth of anthrophogenic and natural activities has exhibited severe environmental degradation in the past few decades. This study aims to explore (both qualitatively and quantitatively) the extent and sources of organic contaminants, i.e., n-alkanes in surface sediments; PAHs, PCBs and OCs in sediments and mussels, P. viridis from Jakarta Bay, North Jakarta, and P. erosa from the Segara Anakan Lagoon. Each protocol was continued with qualitative and quantitative analysis by GC-QQQ(triple-quadropole)/MS. Matrix interferences have been evaluated with proper samples with suitable yield of extraction and analysis. The n-alkanes, PAHs, PCBs and Organochlorin pesticides are detected in the highest levels in sediments, respectively 1935 µg/kg dw, 916 µg/kg dw, 116,49 µg/kg dw, and 16,70 µg/kg dw. In addition, the highest levels of PAHs (1739 µg/kg dw) and OCs levels (24,79 µg/kg dw) were found in biota. The source of hydrocarbons source, such the PAHs were generalelly petroleum source (transport utilization) although the pyrolytic are still present in sediments and biota. Environmental risk assessment from sediment quality guidelines (SQGs) were used to evaluate the probability risk in marine environments. Besides SQGs, sediments and mussels also in regard to the extent of the PAHs, PCBs and OCs (i.e. pp’-DDE) have been compared to other studies conducted at some polluted sites.

Literatura e política nos romances de Patrícia Galvão / Literature and politics in Patrícia Galvãos novels

Ribeiro Junior, João Carlos 15 May 2015 (has links)
Patrícia Galvão\'s artistic work has a political framework in which communist theory and practice are intertwined with the modernist experience. Taking into consideration the author´s trajectory, the strict correspondence between her first book and PCB\'s watchwords allows us to recognize and evaluate tensions, conflicts and dilemmas of the Brazilian left-wing. The figuration of the other, in this case, the emerging proletariat after the 1930 revolution, and the difficulties faced by the writer, or intellectual, in dealing with this matter play a key role in our analysis. The study of Parque industrial (1933), both in its internal characteristics and in its place in the history of Brazilian modernism, occupies most of this work.

Long-term changes of mercury, lead and persistent organic pollutants in arctic environments

Lindeberg, Carola January 2007 (has links)
The Arctic represents a huge area with poor infrastructure contributing to limited possibilities to establish monitoring and research programs. From the investigations that have been performed we know that the arctic environment is affected by anthropogenic emissions from lower latitudes, but knowledge about underlying transport processes, the arctic pollution extent and the rates of changes are limited. This is of particular concern since we are facing climate changes that will not only influence the pole-ward transport of pollutants, but also change conditions for the already accumulated pollutants in the arctic environment. In this thesis lake sediments and soil samples are used to study sub-arctic and arctic time trends and loads of PCBs, PBDE, pesticides, mercury and lead. The study sites are the area around Kangerlussuaq, located in western Greenland, and the Swedish mountains. The temporal trends for PCBs (69 congeners), PBDE (#47) and two pesticides (chlordane and hexachlorobenzene) are studied in seven surface lake sediment cores from Greenland. The concentrations of these persistent organic pollutants are one to two orders of magnitude lower compared to lake sediments from lower latitudes, but with temporal trends following emission and usage trends at lower altitudes, i.e., decreasing trends for PCBs, increasing for PBDE and no specific trends for the pesticides. A delayed deposition of the low-chlorinated PCBs compared to the high-chlorinated PCBs may support the hypothesis of ‘cold condensation’ and ‘global fractionation’ i.e., volatile compounds are fractionated during the pole-ward transport. For lead the concentration in three Greenland lake sediments is about 10 times lower than in sediments from industrial regions, but the past 200 years’ temporal trends follow emission trends in industrial regions. The mercury concentration and enrichment following the Industrial Revolution in the mid 19th century are in three lake sediments from Greenland and in twelve lake sediments from the Swedish mountains comparable with those in sediments from industrial regions; a result of the long atmospheric residence-time for mercury, making it a global pollution. Recently decreased mercury emissions in North America and Europe give declining concentrations in the sediment surfaces, especially in lakes located in the Swedish mountains. In Greenland deeper sediment cores, spanning the last 8000 years, there are substantial fluctuations in mercury concentration and stable lead isotopes (206Pb/207Pb). These fluctuations are the result of variations in deposition to the lake of aeolian material, driven by past variations in arctic climate. In surface soil the mercury concentrations and inventories from the Swedish mountains are 1.5-2 times higher than in soils from Greenland, but for both regions the concentrations are below the critical concentration set up by UN-ECE to protect the terrestrial ecosystem. No indications for mercury enrichment in colder areas, as suggested by the hypothesis of ‘cold condensation’, or in coastal areas, as suggested by the hypothesis of ‘mercury depletion events’, were observed. The highly minerogenic surface soils in sub-arctic and arctic regions have reduced capacity to store mercury, compared to boreal soils.

Analysis of PCBs with special emphasis on comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography of atropisomers

Harju, Mikael January 2003 (has links)
There are 209 PCB congeners, 136 of which have been found in technical PCB mixtures and hence may be found in the environment as a result of either intentional or unintentional release. The identification and quantification of the congeners are difficult due to analytical bias from coeluting PCBs and other persistent organic pollutants. Among the 209 possible PCB congeners, 19 tri- and tetra-ortho chlorinated congeners exist in stable atropisomeric conformations. The racemization barrier were determined for twelve of the nineteen atropisomers and was found to be between 176-185 kJ × mol-1 and ca. 250 kJ × mol-1 for tri- and tetra-ortho PCB, respectively. Further, a buttressing effect of 6.4 kJ × mol-1 was observed for congeners with vicinal ortho-meta chlorines. Comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC×GC) was used to analyze the atropisomers and other PCBs. A Longitudinally Modulated Cryogenic System (LMCS) was used with liquid CO2 as cryogen. The LMCS was optimized for semi-volatile organic substances, primarily PCBs. The trap temperature was shown to be an important factor for the trapping and desorption efficiency, as was the thermal mass of the column used in the modulator region. A number of column sets were tested and the separation efficiency, congener resolution and analysis time was evaluated. Good separation of non- and mono-ortho PCBs and “bulk” PCBs (in a technical PCB) was obtained within 8 min using a smectic liquid crystal column (LC50) as the first and a nonpolar column as the second dimension column. Using a second column, an efficient nonpolar (DB-XLB) column, which separates many PCB congeners, were combined with a polar (cyanopropyl) or shape selective (LC50) second dimension column. As a maximum, 181 of the 209 congeners and 126 of the 136 Aroclor PCBs were resolved. The seven frequently measured PCBs (PCBs 28, 52, 101, 118, 138, 153 and 180) and all WHO-PCBs were separated from all other Aroclor PCBs. Chiral PCBs are released into the environment as racemic mixtures. However, organisms have been shown to enantiomerically enrich many of the atropisomers, suggesting that enantioselective biotransformations occur. Non-racemic PCB enrichment has also been seen in mammalians including humans, which is of particular concern because of the potential health risk. An analytical procedure were therefore developed and used to determine the levels of atropisomeric PCBs, planar-PCBs (WHO-PCBs) and total PCBs in seals with different health status. GC×GC was used to separate the target PCBs from other PCBs and potential interferences. A chiral column (permethylated â-cyclodextrin) was used in combination with a polar or shape selective column and enantiomeric fractions (EFs) were determined for five atropisomeric PCBs, i.e. CBs 91, 95, 132, 149 and 174. Some atropisomers had EF that deviated largely from racemic. The deviation was larger in liver than blubber, indicating enantioselective metabolism. However, there was no selective passage of the studied atropisomeric PCBs across placenta and no selective blood-brain barrier. Similarly, no correlation between EFs and health status was observed, although there was a correlation between total PCBs and health status.

Alternative electronic packaging concepts for high frequency electronics

Siebert, Wolfgang Peter January 2005 (has links)
The aim of the research work presented here, is to contribute to the adaptation of electronic packaging towards the needs of high frequency applications. As the field of electronic packaging stretches over several very different professional areas, it takes an interdisciplinary approach to optimize the technology of electronic packaging. Besides this, an extensive knowledge of industrial engineering should be an essential part of this undertaking to improve electronic packaging. Customary advances in technology are driven by new findings and a continuous development of processes in clearly defined fields. However, in the field of the higher levels of the interconnection hierarchy, that is external to the chip level interconnections and chip packaging, it is supposed that a wide combination of disciplines and technical creativity, instead of advanced technology in a special area should produce most added value. The thesis is divided into five areas, interlinked by the overall aim of there advantages to the common goal. These areas are the Printed Wiring Board (PWB) technology, PWB connections using flexible printed circuit boards, multiconductor cable connections, shielded enclosures and the related EMC issues, and finally the cooling of electronics. A central issue was to improve the shielded enclosures to be effective also at very high frequencies; it will be shown that shielded enclosures without apertures can cope with frequencies up to and above 15 GHz. Due to this enclosure without apertures, it was necessary to develop a novel cooling structure. This cooling structure consists of a heat sink where the PCB’s are inserted in close contact to the cooling fins on one side, whereas the other side of the heat sink is cooled by forced ventilation. The heat transfer between these parts is completely inside the same body. Tests carried out on a prototype have shown that the performance of the cooling structure is satisfactory for electronic cooling. Another problem area that is addressed are the interconnect problems in high frequency applications. Interconnections between parts of a local electronic system, or as within the telecom and datacom field between subscribers, are commonly accomplished by cable connections. In this research work multiconductor cables are examined and a patented novel cable-connector for high frequency use is presented. Further, an experimental complex soldering method between flexible printed circuits boards and rigid printed circuits boards, as part of connections between PCBs, is shown. Finally, different sectors of the PCB technology for high frequency applications are scrutinized and measurements on microstrip structures are presented. / QC 20101006

Design of a parallel A/D converter system on PCB : For high-speed sampling and timing error correction / Kretskortskonstruktion av system med parallella A/D omvandlare : För höghastighetssampling och korrigering av tidsfel.

Alfredsson, Jon January 2002 (has links)
The goals for most of today’s receiver system are sampling at high-speed, with high resolution and with as few errors as possible. This master thesis describes the design of a high-speed sampling system with"state-of-the-art"components available on the market. The system is designed with a parallel Analog-to-digital converter (ADC) architecture, also called time interleaving. It aims to increase the sampling speed of the system. The system described in this report uses four 12-bits ADCs in parallel. Each ADC can sample at 125 MHz and the total sampling speed will then theoretically become 500 Ms/s. The system has been implemented and manufactured on a printed circuit board (PCB). Up to four boards can be connected in parallel to get 2 Gs/s theoretically. In an approach to increase the systems performance even further, a timing error estimation algorithm will be used on the sampled data. This algorithm estimates the timing errors that occur when sampling with non-uniform time interval between samples. After the estimations, the sampling clocks can be adjusted to correct the errors. This thesis is concerning some ADC theory, system design and PCB implementation. It also describes how to test and measure the system’s performance. No measurement results are presented in this thesis because measurements will be done after this project. The last part of the thesis discusses future improvementsto achieve even higher performance.
