This work focused on the constitution of child identity, in particular, the eroticization of child identity based on the cultural consumption of pop songs with erotic content and its materialization in a specific kindergarten school from the city of Natal, Brazil. The present study aimed to highlight and discuss how cultural consumption of pop songs with erotic content contributes to the formation of eroticized children's identities, supported by Cultural Studies in Education in a post-structuralism aspect. It is known that childhood has a cultural, social and historical background, subject to changes related to the situations in which children are involved. Accordingly, it is emphasized that the contemporaneity set up unique conditions that produce new ways of being a child and living childhood again. From this statement, it was considered that the pop songs lyrics with erotic content and certain practices related to them, have effects on the ways of being a child in contemporaneity and operate on the constitution of an eroticized child identity. Thus, it sought inspiration in Foucault's discourse analysis contributions to understand the lyrics content and the children?s speeches. As well as methodological strategies, there was an ethnographic inspiration look at the children surveyed in a kindergarten school from the city of Natal, through entries posted in a journal about the children daily activities that were related to the research questions. The analysis focused on the fragments of the pop songs lyrics with erotic content; the children speeches and actions were observed and recorded in the school context that were related to the pop songs with erotic content and some of the cultural framework materials that refer to pop songs with erotic content in circulation nowadays. Therefore, it was possible to show, among other findings, that children of contemporaneity along with the effects of pop songs with erotic content invest in bodily movements that contribute to the construction of a sensual and eroticized body. Also, it is evident that the songs in question demonstrate a morally wrong adult behavior of being a child, marked by conflicts of generations. These aspects contribute in potential for the formation of eroticized children's identities.

Zanette, Fernanda Germano Corrêa 09 December 2010 (has links)
Universidade de Caxias do Sul / Unlike the idea of common sense, the maid is the protagonist and not supportive of the organizational system of hospitality and tourism, as it is the leading actress of housekeeping in hotel management. In a dramatic scenario of global environmental problems, resulting from economic growth, in the context of which fall within tourism and hotel managment, the role of this professional, in sustainable environmental management in lodging facilities, becomes essential. The overall objective of the study is to analyze the implementation of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in the housekeeping sector, which reduce environmental impacts in a way of lodging, in Rio Grande (RS) city. The specific objectives are: a) identify the environmental actions from the implementation of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of employees in the housekeeping sector, b) study the effectiveness of implementing a standard operating procedure in the housekeeping sector based on the concept of education environment. The variables analysed were: water, energy, waste, environmental policy and suppliers. Initially, the project was analysed through interviews with the main manager and application of instrument of direct observation. The fieldwork was conducted between October 2009 and February 2010. The diagnosis was made by comparing the hotel shares before and after the implementation of the standard operating procedure of housekeeping. It was found that the project already had a business relationship with environmentally certified suppliers. The results analysis allowed to conclude that, with the operating procedure of housekeeping, it had a reduction of energy consumption and water use, reducing waste generation. It is recommended that managers deploy an environmental management policy in the midst of hosting and maintaining the program of valorization of the professional in the housekeeping sector.

Snap! Crack! Pop! : A corpus study of the meanings of three English onomatopoeia

Rydblom, Oskar January 2010 (has links)
The focus of this essay is on examining the meanings of the onomatopoeia (sound imitating words) snap, crack and pop. Previous studies on onomatopoeia and sound symbolism are used to define the terms and create a model for an alternative categorization of these meanings. This model is then applied in a corpus study, conducted on the COCA (Corpus Of Contemporary American English) and BYU-BNC (The British National Corpus) corpora, to find a way to more accurately describe the meanings and functions of these words.  For this purpose the context in which snap, crack and pop are used is also addressed by observing how frequently they occur in formal and informal texts and which adjectives and adverbs frequently modify them. In the study it was discovered that these three words took on many different meanings that would be hard to list separately in a dictionary. These meanings did follow a pattern linked to the properties associated with the word. The study found snap, crack and pop to be informal words with a tendency to add emotion or effect to a statement. It is therefore concluded that sorting onomatopoeia by sound and non sound-related meaning and describing the informal characteristics of these words leads to a greater understanding of how they are used.   Keywords: Arbitrariness, crack, emotive, ideophones, mimetics, mimes, non-arbitrariness, onomatopoeia, phenomimes, phonomimes, pop, psychomimes, register, semantics, snap, sound symbolism and style.

Post-Release Survival and Habitat Utilization of Juvenile Swordfish in the Florida Straits

Fenton, Jenny 01 July 2012 (has links)
The use of pop-up satellite archival tags (PSATs) eliminates many of the limitations associated with acoustic and conventional tags by using fishery-independent data collection and retrieval. Previous research techniques have provided information on longer-term movements, migrations, and behavior patterns, but there is still a need for additional tagging studies using tags with depth and light data and increased memory that will further define the short-duration activity patterns and habitat utilization of juvenile swordfish in the western North Atlantic. PSATs have been successfully used on other large pelagic fishes, but have yet to be used on juvenile swordfish. This study investigated two main topics: a) the post-release survival rates of juvenile swordfish after being released from the recreational rod-and-reel fishery and commercial swordfish buoy gear fishery in the Florida Straits, and b) the habitat utilization of juvenile swordfish following release. High-resolution PSAT technology was used to estimate the post-release survival of 16 individual juvenile swordfish captured with standard recreational or buoy fishing gear and techniques in the southeast Florida swordfish fishery. Analysis of release mortality estimates was done using the “Release Mortality” Program. Five of the fourteen reporting tags showed a mortality within 48 hours, for a release mortality rate of 35.7%. However, no common thread could be found among the five mortalities. Results of the Release Mortality program indicated that if the true mortality rate was 35.7%, approximately 1800 tags would have to be deployed to increase the precision of the mortality estimates to +/- 5% of the true value. The nine surviving fish varied in straight-line distance traveled and in direction, and could withstand a wide range of temperatures. A deterministic, periodic model was developed to fit to the data and describe the fishes’ habitat utilization. This model identified both diurnal and lunar signals in the data, confirming that juveniles do move vertically based on the daily cycle of the sun and the lunar cycle of the moon and that their diurnal movements are much greater than their lunar movements. The results of this study can be valuable to management practices in future stock assessments and decisions regarding mandatory release of undersized fish.

Ready to blow your mind: Andy Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable

Lentz, Alycia Faith 01 May 2016 (has links)
Andy Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable (EPI) was a drug-fueled rock concert-cum-multimedia art event where layers of mediation mixed with immediate experience: The Velvet Underground performed their innovative music in front of films of themselves performing, Factory Superstars danced and performed poetry, various Warhol films projected on the walls, flashing lights flickered on mirrored surfaces, and a crowd of spectators – both famous and unknown – packed in to see and be seen, to dance and trip into the early hours of the morning. The experience of the EPI was a potent combination of alienation, mediation, and commercialization. The EPI was a promotional vehicle for Warhol, Warhol's Factory crew, and the Velvet Underground, but is also a complex example of spectacle that has been under-analyzed in recent scholarship. The EPI's unabashed emphasis on marketing, packaging, consumer goods, and empty celebrity are all manifestations of fears of late capitalist excess, but beneath the veneer of vapidity was an undercurrent of counterculture political activism and social awareness. Original contributions include cultural analysis, interpretation of contemporary reviews and reports, examination of the event's lack of art historical presence, and incorporation of music scholarship into the Warhol historical canon.

Memory Vague: A History of City Pop

Salazar, Jeffrey 20 October 2021 (has links)
This thesis gives a definition and chronology of city pop and places it within the context of Japanese history. City pop can be traced from the 1960s folk movement in Japan until its demise in the early 1990s, coinciding with the end of the bubble economy. This thesis also examines the mid-2010s resurgence of interest in city pop among English-speaking internet users, beginning with a nostalgic rediscovery and curation of city pop around the turn of the century by DJs in Japan known as “crate diggers.” City pop was then transmitted to the West through sampling in hip-hop and especially within the internet-based genre of vaporwave. The character of vaporwave is one of dystopia and is highly contrasted with the breezy, optimistic sound of city pop. City pop was eventually discovered in the late-2010s by a wider international audience through YouTube, largely due to the suggestion algorithm and the sudden popularity of Takeuchi Mariya’s “Plastic Love.” This thesis will define nostalgia in relation to music and show in what ways it has been present as a factor throughout the history of city pop.

Var ska jag börja? : En konstnärlig undersökning kring utgångspunktens betydelse vid låtskrivande / Where do I start? : An artistic study of the significance of the starting point in songwriting

Melander, Hanna January 2020 (has links)
