Development of a surfing leash : Development of ankle strap, rail saver and quick release / Utveckling av en surfing leash; Ankle band, rail saver och quick release

Enetjärn, Jacob January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this project was to, with the help of supervisors and colleagues, develop a concept suggestion for a surfing leash that is better than the ones found on the market. The purpose was also to create a decision basis for Invencon AB for the continuance of the development of the concept. A planning phase started of the project. In this phase a project plan was created where, for example, the methods to be used were defined and their different time-schedules where specified. A feasibility study was then performed, and the information gathered from the study was summarized into a market requirement specification. This specification was used as a guiding document in the idea generation and during the development of the different concepts. A final concept was chosen at the end of the concept selection phase. This concept was presented to the project commissioner. A handover of relevant documents to the project commissioner was made to facilitate their decision on the continuance of the project. The developed concept has an integrated quick release in the ankle straps clamping function. This allows for the surfer to detach from the surfing leach both safer and faster in a dangerous situation. On both the ankle strap and on the railsaver there are developed attachments where the cord is to be attached. These attachments are designed so that each part of the conceptual surfing leash can be replaced individually. This allows for the surfer to only replace the damaged parts of his surfing leash. A technical requirement specification was also created. This aimed to facilitate the continuance of the project, if the decision is made to continue developing the concept. The conclusion of the project is that it is important to create a comprehensive view over the surfing leashes performance and to where focus should be aimed. A heavy-tailed process was therefore important for the end-result, i.e. to direct a lot of time to the phases that lead up to the concept selection phase. It was also clear that cooperation and discussion was important in a project that aims to create concepts. To be able to discuss ones thoughts and ideas with a project partner has facilitated both the generating and the validating of ideas. To work with a detailed plan and have a clear structure in the work was vital when working close to a project partner.

Características de um produto saudável e prático para atender as novas tendências de alimentação de consumidores que buscam melhor qualidade de vida / Characteristics of a healthy and easy to make product to meet the new food trends of customers that seek for better quality of life

Peccinelli, Marianna Cardi 05 July 2019 (has links)
With the coming of new storage and preparation technologies, the consumption of convenience products has been improved. With the social changes that have occurred in the last decades, the concern about the impacts of food on health has grown among the current population. Therefore, products that have high levels of sodium, fats and sugars are not meeting the needs of customers that seek for a better quality of life. This study aims to define the attributes of a instant noodle that meet the new trends in the food market, using the methodology Quality Function Deployment -QFD. The present paper developed a questionnaire and it was applied in person at the \"Luiz de Queiroz\" School of Agriculture, ESALQ/USP, and at two establishment in Piracicaba, SP and Jundiaí, SP. The questionnaire was also applied through an online platform. Based on the results and through multivariate analysis, it was possible to identify three customer groups: \"conscious\"; \"unhealthy\"; \"undecided\". The group selected was the \"conscious\" due to its preference for healthier products. From the matrix relationship between the attributes of the required quality and the technical requirements, the prioritization of the requirements that most impacted the needs of customers was established, being the main one the amount of mushrooms. The mushroom ingredient increases the added value of the instant noodle due to its nutritional and medicinal qualities, although it may affect the sale price.

Benefits of Simulation Models in Product Data Management System : A pilot study with cooling system simulation models

Köhn, Elvira January 2019 (has links)
The product development today handles increasingly complex products and to be able to compete on the current market companies need an effective PLM/PDM system to manage the lifecycle, models, and data connected to their products. Three of the factors for success in product development are time, cost, and quality. Which need to be supported by the processes and tool used in a project. Product development often uses both physical and analytical prototypes. The analytical method of simulation is an important element in product development that has started to shift from being a validation and verification tool at the last stages in the development process to be more included in the early stages. Simulation models often generate a big amount of data and because of this, the storing and management of them can be troublesome. Therefore, there is a need to have closer integration between design and simulation. The purpose of the thesis is to do an inquiry about what a PLM system contributes to in a company regarding their product development and why and how simulation models can be connected to the company’s PDM system. The methods used during the study were literature reviews, interviews, workshops, and a survey. The results show that in the literature the benefits of using a PLM and PDM system are connected to the factors for a successful product development which are time, quality and cost. While the employees think traceability, reuse of data and storing is the most important benefits. Simulation models are beneficial to the product development process and should, therefore, be stored in a way that there is a connection between the simulation model and the design model. For the employees, the highest-ranking benefits with adding simulation models to the system are traceability, reuse of simulation models and control over simulation models. A manual for how the simulation engineer can utilize the system and add simulation models to it are presented.

Integration of value engineering and design thinking in the product development process.

Vizioli, Renato 18 March 2019 (has links)
To deal with the complexity of the product development process and especially on how to understand the needs and desires of the users, the identification and creation of methodologies such as \"design thinking\" and value engineering became important in generating noticeable values not only for these users but also for companies that develop products for the society and to the environment. By proposing a joint technical of the two mentioned methods, integrated to the product development process, observing the characteristics respectively of divergence and convergence, based on the perceived reality in the industry, it sought to improve the quality of early stages of the product development process, in terms of how to reduce the development time, the assertiveness of the proposed solutions and process costs. The validation of the technique was made through research involving students of an MBA on Management and Engineering of Products and Services, identifying the information flows along the 7 tools that make up the model, and then applying the complete model, observing results that attest to the better understanding of the stages and synergy related to integration, achieving teaching objectives, but also the quality of the solutions obtained.

An exploration of the pre-development phase of new product development in New Zealand manufacturing small and medium enterprises : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Engineering in Product Development at Massey University, Auckland, New Zealand

Baier, Warren Arthur January 2008 (has links)
Developing successful new products in New Zealand Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) is difficult due to several factors. These include greater expectations, new technology, reduced product lifecycles, high project failure rates, and the pressures from competition. This presents a significant challenge for a product development team as it leaves companies searching for opportunities to gain an advantage in the market place. The low level of research performed in relation to SMEs over the past number of years, especially in the field of New Product Development (NPD), has resulted in an increase in interest by practitioners and academics. This research was aimed at exploring the pre-development phase currently employed by SMEs within the New Zealand manufacturing industry. The purpose was to gauge the understanding and importance of this early stage in NPD amongst practitioners from these SMEs, as the literature highlighted this as an area of weakness requiring empirical research. Specifically, the objectives set for this research investigation were to survey manufacturing SMEs in New Zealand, compare the findings with past and current research on a national and international level, and make conclusions in relation to: • The nature and complexity of the pre-development activities performed by New Zealand manufacturing SMEs. • The difficulties and/or limitations New Zealand manufacturing SMEs encounter whilst implementing the pre-development activities. • The importance of and attitude towards the pre-development phase with regards to the overall NPD process and the company’s product development efforts. The study consisted of a questionnaire survey, run during June and July 2007 with twenty-two SMEs representing the light engineering/manufacturing, electronics, and food industry sectors. The questionnaire survey was followed up with one-on-one interviews with some of the participating companies allowing for both quantitative and qualitative data to be obtained. The research investigation found that the difficulties in carrying out the five predevelopment activities studied were common, compounded by the lack of skills inhouse to do so. Of the five pre-development activities studied, the preliminary technical analysis was found to be given the most attention by the companies with regard to overall project time, with lesser emphasis placed on the other four activities. Many of the companies developed ‘new to the world’ products or entered new markets with existing products where they primarily took part in the business-tobusiness market. Good relationships existed between the manufacturing SMEs and their suppliers, distributors and customers. Management were found to have a high level of involvement in product planning, as they tend to be involved in key decision making in NPD in SMEs. Many of the companies had difficulty when it came to identifying opportunities and customer needs, with the addition of numerous barriers limiting the implementation of NPD. The greatest difficulties arose during the practical implementation of tools and techniques due to several challenges, such as limited budgets, lack of time and resources as well as incompatibility within the existing company culture. Clearly, the pre-development phase is the basis for the remainder of the NPD process with essential development decisions being made here. This phase is therefore crucial in determining the likely outcome of NPD projects. The research findings suggested that greater consideration and effort should be placed on the pre-development phase, even more so with the cost increasing exponentially when mistakes are made later in development. The study highlighted the need to improve the tools and techniques available for use during the pre-development phase, as companies are aware of its importance but find it the most difficult to undertake. High new product failure rates; over-expenditure of project time; lack of awareness, commitment, and formality; and the high level of difficulty experienced by the New Zealand SMEs studied, suggests there is a need for the implementation of better tools and techniques during the predevelopment phase to aid successful NPD in New Zealand manufacturing SMEs.

Improvements of storage application

Runius, Christian January 2009 (has links)
<p>Windy Scandinavia is the manufacturer of the luxury yacht Windy 52 Xanthos. There is a storage application in the aft sofa on the boat that doesn’t live up to the standard and functionality level that Windy represents. This report describes the mechanical design process of this storage application, which currently has bad functionality and is expensive for Windy in production.</p><p>The aim of the project was to develop the existing storage application to a low cost application. Simple and effective for Windy to produce and assemble, with the directives of access to the front or from above to the sofa.</p><p>A feasibility study of the existing application was made to get a picture of disadvantages and advantages to keep for further concepts.</p><p>The concept development included three steps; each step implied further development in level of detail. Starting with a range of concepts covering all different possibilities of access to the storage space, and ending up with a couple of concepts developed in detail with costs and knowledge of productions methods.</p><p>The result became a standard application; a hatch with gas dampers. The reasons why this became the result was because of the low cost, simplicity and functionality. Small modifications of existing moulds and no new components or production methods needed.</p><p>Conclusion of the result is that it fulfils the requirement specification and thereby is a proper result. The conceptual design phase generated many different concepts, from these concepts a result satisfying the requirements emerged.</p>

Produktkoncept: lekhjälm i vintermiljö : ett nytt produktsortiment

Flyktman, Therése January 2010 (has links)
<p>A protection helmet for young people (3-7 years) in winter environment has been developed in this thesis. The result is a concept proposal for development at STIGA Sports AB in Eskilstuna. This thesis work has been performed during 20 weeks, for a Master of Science in Product and Process development at Mälardalen University Eskilstuna Sweden in September 2009 to January 2010. The helmet is shown as a CAD model with detailed solutions to the outer shell, interior and adjustability (in sizes 50-56 cm) which are the three focused areas in the development. Also a physical model in scale 1:1 has been developed and is shown in this thesis work.</p><p>To achieve the best result possible the process started with an analysis of the market and the product. All decisions during the development process were made according to European Standard SS EN 1080 Impact protection helmets for young people, which are the requirements necessary for market interest, security and to be CE approved. In the product development process scientific methods have been used to guarantee quality. A function analysis and a product specification formed the basis of the QFD tool, which measured the concept in relation to the requirements and existing products on the market.</p><p>The analysis of current competitors on the market combined with a SWOT analysis showed that there is potential for STIGA Sports AB to develop a play helmet. That since there is only one direct competitor on the market today. Due to the fact that they do not have their own product development department it is, in a safety perspective, important for STIGA Sports AB to keep a continuous contact with the production. It will guarantee the product’s quality and meet all the requirements of SS EN 1080. A product decomposition was performed to understand the construction of a helmet. Eight developed concepts led, through an evaluation of three concepts with the highest ranking score, to one final combined concept.</p><p>The concept consists of a two-piece outer shell for the ability to adjust size and a three-piece interior to ensure comfort and safety regarding the essential parts of the head (forehead, rear, sides, temples and crown of the head). The shape and color have been chosen with the intention to appeal the user (children) and at the same time provide a feeling of safety to the purchaser (adults). Stiga Sports AB current product range and design profile has influenced the design throughout the project.</p> / <p>En lekhjälm för användning vid vintermiljö har i detta examensarbete tagits fram.

Produktutveckling av musikinstrument för personer med nedsatt rörelseförmåga i händer och/eller armar / Product development of a musical instrument for persons with reduced mobility in hands and / or arms

Hedberg, Emil, Andersson, Jonas January 2010 (has links)
In this report, you as a reader will be able to take note of a statement of the work the group has performed in the course KPP305, <em>Examensarbete i Produktutveckling </em>(Master Thesis Work in Product development), 30hp. This work is based on an assignment from an earlier course, at Mälardalen University, known as <em>Industridesign 2 </em>(Industrial design 2nd). During this course the group was awarded a task which was to "give disabled people the opportunity to make music”, and the group thus developed a visual concept over an instrument which was custom made for people with disabilities in their upper body. This thesis can be seen as a continuation of the justmentioned task.</p><p>The group has through the whole project had close dialogue to people in different industries, such as people from disability associations, instrument makers, rheumatics and disabled people with several. Someone else who also been very helpful during the project is the group's supervisor, Jan Frohm, ho been there with advice and acted as a sounding board to the ideas and thoughts the group had about the project.</p><p> The objective of the project was to continue the work which the group achieved in previous course, and thus arrive at a definitive solution to it. The reason why the group chose to continue working on this project was that they found it important that all people, regardless of functional or physical disabilities must have the ability to make music.</p><p>The group has through an extensive research, contacts, a number of key interviews and a variety of tools for product development been able to come up with a solution that meets up to the problems which was set in the beginning of the project. The project resulted in a prototype of an instrument, which the group decided to call for <em>Funkinstrument</em>, which is intended for people who suffer from some form of disability in the arms and/or hands, or suffer from rheumatism. The group itself is very pleased with the outcome of the project, and of its efforts in this thesis.</p>

Optimal Enclosure Doors - Design and Evaluation / Optimala tätningslösningar för utomhusskåp - konstruktion och utvärdering

Karlsson, Tobias January 2008 (has links)
<p>Within the telecommunication business there are a lot of different hardware designs made for outside locations. Many of these outdoor products contain sensitive electronic equipment and all of these designs must be able to function in extreme environments. They might be mounted on the ground, on a wall or on masts at varying altitudes. They need to be enclosed and protected against blizzards, moisture, sandstorms, earthquakes, dust and similar contaminations or nature phenomena in order to assure a reliable and proper function of the device.</p><p>To delimit this thesis the focus is completely set on outdoor enclosures with hinged doors. The sealing solution for the enclosure door is crucial because it is the weakest link in the environmental protection. The aim with this thesis is to find a robust yet versatile sealing solution for Ericsson outdoor cabinets.</p><p>The sealing solution does not only concern the gasket design, it is in fact the entire principle when it comes to seal the door. Interesting features are choice of locking system, the positions of the hinges and other details which might affect the sealing of the enclosure door.</p><p>The project includes the whole product development process from pre-study to concept development and evaluation of proposal design. The pre-study contain extensive literature research, benchmark and a state of the art investigation. A number of concepts are generated, screened, compared and ranked with systematic concept development methods. At last, one final concept is selected for further development. The chosen sealing solution is refined and a functional model is made. A simple prototype of the sealing solution is designed, manufactured and tested to validate the functionality of the concept.</p><p>An economical analysis is performed in order to approximate the manufacturing cost of the gasket proposed in the sealing solution and to compare the unit price for different batch sizes. The water intrusion test indicates that the solution seems promising and that the result is a simple and robust sealing solution that easily can be implemented on various enclosure types.</p> / <p>Inom telecom-industrin finns det många typer av hårdvara som är konstruerad för att placeras utomhus.

ABB Gate Model : En processledningsmetod för ABB:s produktutveckling / ABB Gate Model : A Process Management Model for Product Development in ABB.

Hallqvist, Stina, Moström, Johanna January 2003 (has links)
<p>Organisations tend to focus more and more on product and process development to increase their competitiveness. Several major organisations, among them ABB, have developed models aimed to more effectively control and manage product development processes. ABB is using its standardised model ABB Gate Model for this. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze how the introduction of ABB Gate Model has affected the outcome of decisions and also the decision-making in the product development process. The study is limited to elucidate the version of ABB Gate Model handling product development projects. No deeper study is conducted regarding the information used or the criteria for the gate decisions; instead, the focus is to findelements in basis for the decision- making that have a greater significance for the outcome at some gate or at specific types of gate decisions. The empirical data of the thesis has to a great extent been collected through interviews with respondents from both of the studied units and also the unit in charge of the implementation and development of ABB Gate Model. The study shows that ABB Gate Model does not to any significant extent affect the outcome of the decisions in the product development projects. In general, the same decisions are made as before and projects are seldom cancelled. The foremost effects of ABB Gate Model at the units are: increased clarity and support to the operational work, improved co- ordination between the units functional departments, and contributed to make essential aspects of the product development projects visible and taken into consideration.</p>
