Django, historien om en hjälte : En diskursanalys av postkoloniala och genusteoretiska maktförhållanden i Quentin Tarantinos film Django Unchained. / Django, the story of a hero : A discourse analysis of postcolonial and gender theoretical power conditions in Quentin Tarantino’s movie Django Unchained.Borglin, John January 2018 (has links)
The following study aims to analyze expressions of postcolonial and gender theoretical conditions of power in Quentin Tarantino’s film Django Unchained. The method of analysis is the one of discourse analysis. The analysis is used as a means to distinguish the expressions of value which will aim to depict the gender theoretical- and postcolonial structures of power the film mediates. Furthermore, the results given by the analysis will be discussed in relation to creation of prosthetic memory. Considering the prosthetic memory’s impact on the viewers subjectivity, and outlook on both present and future values, the theory will adequately be discussed in relation to the representation this pop-cultural medium mediate. This study does not aim to analyze the historical authenticity of the film but rather to identify which postcolonial and gender theoretical values that are projected through the historical narrative. However, Django’s hero status will be discussed in relation with the mid-19th century American setting. As for the results of the analysis they were both in line with, and contradictive to, what the previous studies has shown. In correlation with the preceding studies the film did not seem to address the psychological issue of the different positions of power a slave could have. However, the position of Django was in fact a subject of problematization. The configuration of gender was less nuanced, which gave rise to a one-sided function and power stature for the depicted women of the film. In contrast to this, the power hieratical position for men were highly fluid and dependent on several factors.

Genom våra ögon : En komparativ litteraturanalys av Margaret Atwoods The Handmaid’s Tale och Octavia E. Butlers Kindred, utifrån forskningsfältet kulturella minnesstudier / Through Our Eyes : A comparative literary analysis of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale and Octavia E. Butler’s Kindred, based on the research field of cultural memory studiesAdolfsson, Linnea January 2018 (has links)
This essay’s primarily focus is on the common discourse about the persisting effects of the past in the present in Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale(1985)and Octavia E. Butler’s Kindred (1979).These novels are the testimonies of the protagonists Offred and Dana who shares their experience of traumatic violence and oppression. Dana, with her ability to time travel, will see her present time in clearer light as she experiences the life of a slave on an antebellum plantation. Offred, the Handmaiden owned by the totalitarian regime Gilead, portrays her contemporary life in parallel to remembering her former and thus describing Gilead’s increasing authority. Based on different theorists and concepts in the field of cultural memory studies, this essay examines the tension between memory and history, the distantness towards the past and the problematics with representations of traumatic events. As I argue that the voices of Dana and Offred calls attention to the importance of perspective and of sharing stories, they are also an act of hope, therapy and resistance; an act that also make possible a critique of the processes of the production of historical knowledge.

[..] if only you behaved like the loyal British subjects you're supposed to be : Nationella identiteter och det förflutnas funktion i Starz:s Outlander (2014-) / [..] if only you behaved like the loyal British subjects you're supposed to be : National identities and the function of the past in Starz’s Outlander (2014-)Hågbäck, Moa January 2019 (has links)
This study aims to analyse the representation of Scottish and English national identity in the tv-series Outlander (2014-). By recreating a historically influenced narrative of relations between Scotland and England, in the aftermath of the Union of 1707 and the upcoming Jacobite rebellion of 1745, the series also mediate a disputed collective British identity. Therefore, it is imperative to analyse how pop-culture functionalises memories of nations’ historical past to influence contemporary identities. First, I establish an inventory of semiotic mythic tokens of national identity. I then conduct a contextual analysis of national discursive identity on these. A further theoretical sociohistorical framework of contemporary ideology, mediated through pop-culture, materialises Outlanders impact on viewers’ own creation of identity. Through representations of myth Outlander mediates the stereotypical, romanticised image of Scottish highlanders as “superstitious barbarians” - a dualistic concept of national identity, depending on its context. To the viewer it’s an idealised image of someone rebellious, living outside the industrialised and modernised society. To the English/British soldiers it’s an image of the underdeveloped, uncivilised savage, the soldiers themselves being portrayed in Outlander as the cultivated superior in pursuit of cultural salvation for their inferior. The national discourse of both nations is symbiotic and dependent, each in need of the other’s binary identity to recreate its own. However, establishing a collective British national identity in Outlander also means a cultural sacrifice of the inferior to the superior – the cultural heritage of British identity should build on English national discourse alone. An important conclusion this study draws is the similarity between the dependency national discourses have to their binary “other” and contemporary society depending on the past in the creation of its identity. This recreational process is no longer, in a time of mass media, solely inherited by individual collective communities.

Maskulinitet, ras och identitet i J. Coles studioalbum 4 Your Eyez Only : Nutidshistoria, kollektivt minne och intersektionalitet i samtida hiphopmusik / Masculinity, race and identity in J. Cole's studio album 4 Your Eyez Only : Contemporary history, collective memory and intersectionality in contemporary hip hop musicBehrami, Drilon January 2020 (has links)
This study examines intersectionality and identity in rapper Jermaine Lamarr Cole’s studio album 4 Your Eyez Only. Through discourse analysis, the essay studies the representation of aspects of identity in the album, with a focus on gender, race, class and sexuality. The study also examines prosthetic memory in the album, with the intention of finding correlating narratives that create a general concensus of how society is viewed from marginalised groups in the US. The findings conclude that gender, race and class are expressed as the main buildingblocks for a characters identity in the album. It is telling that sexuality remains untouched in this regard. The reader is exclusively exposed to the normative heterosexual perspective, completely ignoring any notion of varied sexual orientations. Furthermore the findings conclude that J. Cole showcases a generally negative view on the govornment, as it is percieved as one of many instances keeping marginalised groups at the bottom of a societal foodchain

Arns makt : Representationer av makt, positivt kapital och livsmål i berättelserna om tempelriddaren Arn / The Power of Arn : Representations of Power, Positive Capital and Aims in Life in the Narratives about Arn the Knight TemplarSärnbrink, My January 2011 (has links)
My Särnbrink hette tidigare My Ravin.
