Os efeitos de uma intervenção psicoterápica breve junguiana em um grupo de portadores de doença periodontal / The effects of brief Jungian psychotherapeutic intervention for individuals suffering from periodontal disease

A total of 26 subjects were selected, male and female, aged between 30 and 60. The subjects were randomly divided between an experimental group (N=13) and a control group (N=13). The experimental group experienced a psychotherapeutic process, which consisted of 14 weekly sessions, of one and a half hours each. The two groups were evaluated with respect to the level of cortisol saliva, level of stress and periodontal conditions, before and after the experimental period. The results identified improvements in the experimental group, that were statistically significant, with respect to the levels of cortisol saliva (NC), the levels of stress and evidence of plaque (IP) gingivitis (IG), which measure, respectively, the accumulation of bacterium plaque and gum inflammation. The control group, which did not undergo a psychotherapeutic process, reported a statistically significant worsening in the plaque levels (IP), with no statistically significant alterations in the other indices. Descriptions and qualitative analyses were made of some thematic categories from the psychotherapeutic sessions, highlighting, amongst others, the difficulty of verbal assertive expression by the subjects. Interpretations and symbolic interpretations were made of the mouth and speech. Non verbal expressive techniques and symbolic amplification provided the transduction of the organic symptom to the abstract expression of the complex, which resulted in improvements in the periodontal disease. The results identified the need to consider the use of psychotherapy as an integral part of treating periodontal disease / O presente trabalho objetivou analisar os efeitos de uma intervenção psicoterápica breve Junguiana em um grupo de portadores de doença periodontal. Foram selecionados 26 sujeitos, de ambos os sexos, com idades entre 30 e 60 anos. Os sujeitos foram divididos aleatoriamente em grupo experimental (N=13) e controle (N=13). O grupo experimental passou pelo processo psicoterápico, que constou de 14 encontros semanais, com a duração de 1H30. Os dois grupos foram avaliados quanto à taxa de cortisol salivar, nível de estresse e condições periodontais, antes e depois do período experimental. Os resultados apontaram melhoras no grupo experimental, com significância estatística, nas taxas de cortisol salivar (NC), nos níveis de estresse e nos índices de placa (IP) e gengival (IG), que medem, respectivamente, o acúmulo da placa bacteriana e a inflamação gengival. O grupo controle, que não passou pelo processo psicoterápico, apresentou piora estatisticamente significante para o índice de placa (IP), não ocorrendo modificações com significância estatística nos demais indicadores. Foram descritas e analisadas qualitativamente algumas categorias temáticas das sessões psicoterápicas, destacando-se entre elas, a dificuldade de expressão verbal assertiva dos sujeitos. Foram feitas interpretações e amplificações simbólicas da boca e da fala. As técnicas expressivas não-verbais e o método de amplificação simbólica propiciaram a transdução do sintoma orgânico para a expressão abstrata do complexo, promovendo a melhora da doença periodontal. Ett fotbollsprojekt för flickor med utländsk bakgrund / A footballproject for girls with foreign background

Syftet med denna studie var att genom kvalitativa forskningsintervjuer ta reda på hur flickor med utländsk bakgrund kan uppleva ett specifikt fotbollsprojekt som syftar till att öka deltagandet bland flickor med invandrarbakgrund. Syftet var även att undersöka vilken betydelse projektet kan ha för dem. Sex flickor med utländsk bakgrund som deltar i det specifika fotbollsprojektet ingick i studien. Av resultatet framkom att flickorna upplever att projektet har haft en stor betydelse för deras självuppfattning. Projektet har gett dem nya möjligheter att lära sig spela fotboll, träffa nya kompisar samt att vara mer fysiskt aktiva. Det framgår även att flickornas motivation till att spela fotboll har stärkts samt att denna ökning av motivation i kombination med den stärkta självuppfattningen kan ha resulterat i att flickorna börjat ta plats i andra arenor som rasterna i skolan och klassfotbollen. / The purpose of this study was to look into how girls with foreign backgrounds can experience a specific football projects that aims to increase the participation in sports among girls with foreign backgrounds. The intention was also to examine what meaning the project can have for these girls. The study was conducted with qualitative interviews and a total of six girls from the specific project participated. The result from the interviews was that the girls experiences that the project has affected their self-concept in a good direction. The football project has given them new opportunities to learn how to play football, meet new friends and to be physically active. Their motivation to play football has also increased .The increase of motivation in combination with the strengthen self-concept may have resulted in the girl feeling confident and motivated enough to participate more in the school breaks and the “class football”.

We address this issue articulating the process of the subject construction with the drive work, where the mother – as the Other - is of great importance for its function of excitement-shielding and, therefore, as an organizer of the drive circuit. It is, therefore, on the time of subjective constitution that we believe we can find the key to understanding the somatic symptoms, since it is in early childhood that the imaginary and symbolic body is formed in this double with the anatomical body. In this study, we used as the theoretical framework the psychoanalytic psychosomatic and Assoun´s texts, both based in Freudian metapsychology. The first one gives us an understanding about the formation of somatic symptoms from the primary relationships the child has with his parents. The second one, deals with somatic symptoms from a drive unmerge located in the origin of the I-body, forming the link with the Other. This is a qualitative research, with semi-structured interviews with six parents who were accompanying their children during hospitalization time in a known public hospital in Fortaleza-CE. The data were submitted to the method of content analysis, which center themes were maternal function and somatic symptoms. The analysis of these issues has shown us that the quality of the parents/children link suffer the effects of maternal desire that brings, itself, the mark of the inherent ambivalence in this relationship, through the psychic conflict, that when is not resolved in terms of symbolic development, falls on the body (of the child) as an affiliation, the mark of the Other’s desire power. The parent’s phantasmagoric constructions about the cause of cancer of their children were another relevant thing, enabling us to have a better understanding of the parents / children link, and of the child’s place in maternal libidinal economy. Thus, the understanding of somatic symptoms in babies and small children should take into account not only the somatic reality of this physical body, but also the vicissitudes of maternal desire that act through the embodiment of the ghost, denouncing the plastic effect that is active in unconscious process, that is, the embodiment (in the son) of the ghost (maternal). / A proposta desta dissertação é compreender o câncer infantil entrelaçado ao processo de constituição subjetiva, tomando como referência o estudo psicanalítico dos sintomas somáticos em bebês e crianças pequenas a partir dos lugares simbólicos e imaginários que os filhos ocupam no desejo dos pais. Abordamos esse tema articulando a constituição do sujeito com o trabalho da pulsão, em que a mãe – enquanto Outro – assume grande importância por sua função de para-excitação e, portanto, na qualidade de organizadora do circuito pulsional. É, portanto, no tempo de constituição subjetiva que acreditamos poder encontrar a chave para a compreensão do sintoma somático, visto que é na pequena infância que o corpo simbólico e imaginário se forma nesse duplo com o corpo anatômico. Neste estudo, utilizamos como referenciais teóricos a Psicossomática psicanalítica e os textos de Assoun, ambos fundamentados na metapsicologia freudiana. O primeiro oferece compreensão acerca da constituição dos sintomas somáticos nas relações primordiais que a criança estabelece com seus pais. O segundo aborda o sintoma somático com base em uma desfusão pulsional localizada na origem do eu-corporal, constituído no laço com o Outro. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, com realização de entrevistas semi-estruturadas com seis pais que estavam acompanhando os filhos durante o período de internação num hospital público de referencia em Fortaleza/CE. Os dados foram submetidos ao método de análise de conteúdo, cujas categorias temáticas centrais foram a função materna e o sintoma somático. A análise desses temas mostrou que a qualidade do laço pais/filhos recebe a influência do desejo materno que, por sua vez, traz a marca da ambivalência inerente a esta relação, mediante o conflito psíquico que, não sendo resolvido em termos de uma elaboração simbólica, recai sobre o corpo (da criança) como inscrição, marca do poder do desejo do Outro. As elaborações fantasmáticas dos pais sobre a causa do câncer dos filhos foram outro dado relevante, possibilitando melhor compreensão do laço pais/filhos e do lugar que o filho ocupa na economia libidinal materna. Dessa forma, a compreensão dos sintomas somáticos em bebês e crianças pequenas deve levar em consideração não apenas a realidade somática desse corpo físico, como também as vicissitudes do desejo materno, que operam por meio da corporização do fantasma, denunciando o efeito plástico ativo do processo inconsciente, ou seja, a corporização (no filho) do fantasma (materno).

Dissertation thesis Acting with the Inner Partner as a Way to Develop Teacher's Personal Dispositions focuses on specifics of a psychosomatic discipline called Acting with the Inner Partner, in professional training of future teachers. This discipline represents the pedagogy of experimenting with the phenomenon of self-speech in experimental conditions. The emphasis is on the personality of future teachers, as well as on cultivation of their self-reflection. This should lead to a becoming a professional teacher with an authorial approach and authentic acting. The objective of the dissertation thesis is a deeper understanding of psychosomatic disciplines pedagogy, whereas my very own teaching experience at The Department of Psychology and Pedagogy is essential. Specifics of future teachers' personal preparation in the view of psychosomatic disciplines, represents the basic part of this work. Another part focuses on the experience with Acting with the Inner Partner, at first described by a student and later by an assistant (lecturer) and researcher. Common features of so called psychosomatic condition are discovered. The author also searches the possibility of exporting Acting with the Inner Partner out of the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology at South Bohemia University. As the methodology of video recording analysis has not been accomplished yet, the starting points for further research are described. The empirical part focuses on typology documented on students' written self-reflections. The objective is to describe the assistant's experience. The interpretation of the research results shows the need to distinguish between the terms 'written teaching self-reflections' and 'written teaching reflections, commonly described as feedback.

Ungdomar som inte dricker alkohol : En kvantitativ studie om ungdomars avhållsamhet från alkohol i relation till psykisk hälsa

Bakgrund: Alkoholkonsumtionen bland ungdomar har sedan 2000-talets början minskat. Hur detta har påverkat ungdomarnas hälsa är i dagsläget okänt, då det råder brist på vetenskapligt underlag inom området. Emellertid har tidigare studier undersökt hälsan hos ungdomar som inte dricker alkohol i andra kontexter och tidsperioder, vilket indikerat på en koppling till hälsobrister snarare än hälsovinster framförallt vad gäller psykisk hhälsa. Syfte: Denna studie syftar till att undersöka huruvida avhållsamhet från alkohol bland ungdomar i årskurs två på gymnasiet är associerat med psykisk hälsa, samt om deras psykiska hälsa har förändrats från 2004 till 2012. Metod: För att undersöka sambandet mellan ungdomars avhållsamhet från alkohol och psykisk hälsa användes en kvantitativ metod med upprepade tvärsnittsstudier som studiedesign. Data från hälsoundersökningen Liv och Hälsa Ung Västmanland användes, med 2533 elever i årskurs två år 2004 och 2193 elever år 2012. Resultat: Andelen elever i årskurs två på gymnasiet som avhöll sig från att dricka alkohol var endast marginellt större år 2012 än 2004. Ungdomar som inte dricker alkohol uppvisade i mindre utsträckning antisocialt beteende jämfört med de som dricker, vilket gällde för båda åren. Dock i mindre utsträckning år 2012 än 2004, varvid alkoholkonsumtionen inte tycks ha varit av lika stor betydelse för graden av antisocialt beteende vid det senare undersökningsåret. Med avseende på psykosomatiska besvär och depression var ungdomars avhållsamhet från alkohol endast associerat med hälsofördelar det första undersökningsåret. År 2012 var icke-drickande snarare associerat med en högre grad av psykosomatiska besvär. Slutsatser: Ungdomars avhållsamhet från alkohol tycks inte vara associerat med några påtagliga hälsoeffekter bland ungdomar i årskurs två, med undantag för antisocialt beteende. Möjligtvis beror avsaknaden av hälsoeffekter 2012 på en ökad psykisk ohälsa bland både drickare och icke-drickare. / Background: Alcohol consumption among adolescents has declined since the beginning of the twenty-first century. Whether this has affected the health among the adolescents is currently unknown, due to the lack of empirical evidence regarding this area. However, previous studies have investigated the health of non-drinking adolescents in other contexts and time periods, which have indicated a connection to health deficiencies rather than health benefits. Especially regarding mental health. Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate whether alcohol abstinence among adolescents in the second year of upper secondary school is associated with mental health and whether their mental health has changed from 2004 to 2012. Method: In order to investigate the relationship between alcohol abstinence among adolescents, a quantitative method with a repeated cross-sectional design was used. Data from the Survey of Adolescent Life in Vestmanland was used, including 2533 second year students in 2004 and 2193 second year students in 2012. Results: The proportion of students in the second year of upper secondary school who abstained from drinking alcohol was only marginally greater 2012 than 2004. Non-drinking adolescents presented an antisocial behavior to a lesser extent than their drinking peers, which was applicable to both years. However, to a lesser extent in 2012 than 2004, where Conclusions: Alcohol abstinence among adolescents does not seem to have substantially affected the mental health of adolescents, except concerning anti-social behavior. Lack of health effects among the adolescents in 2012, may instead depend on a decrease in mental health among drinkers, as well as non-drinkers. Measuring peer victimization and school leadership : A study of definitions, measurement methods and associations with psychosomatic health / Att mäta mobbning och skolledarskap : en studie om definitioner, mätmetoder och samband med psykosomatisk hälsa

The aim of this thesis is to explore methods for assessing peer victimization and pedagogical leadership in school. The thesis includes four studies. Study I and II are based on web-based questionnaires among 2, 568 students in grades 7, 8 and 9. Study III is based on a questionnaire (n=128) and four focus group interviews (n=21) among students in grades 7 and 9. Study IV is based on a web-based questionnaire including 344 teachers. The results from Study I showed that among students who experienced peer victimization 13% were captured by a bullying measure, 44% by a measure of repeated peer aggression, and 43% by both measures, i.e. the two measures captured partly different pupils. Study II showed that the two measures captured the same proportion of adolescents with psychosomatic problems and showed no significant differences in mean values on the Psychosomatic Problems (PSP) scale. In Study III it was shown that besides the traditional criteria the adolescents definition of bullying also included a criterion based on the health consequences of bullying. That is, a single but hurtful or harmful incident could also be considered bullying irrespective of whether the traditional criteria were fulfilled or not. The Rasch analysis in Study IV indicated two sub dimensions of the Pedagogical and Social Climate (PESOC-PLP) scale; direct pedagogical leadership and indirect pedagogical leadership. Satisfying psychometric properties indicated that the PESOC-PLP scale could be used to measure pedagogical leadership of the principal. This thesis highlights problems with how bullying and school leadership is currently defined and measured. By strengthening the understanding of measurement methods of peer victimization and school leadership the aim is that the results from this thesis will contribute in providing a safe and positive school experience for children and adolescence and that it can be used as a valuable tool to combat peer victimization. / Baksidestext: The negative consequences of peer victimization on children and adolescents such as worsening academic achievement and mental ill health are major public health concerns which have been subjected to extensive research. However, there are long-standing concerns how to define, measure, and estimate prevalence rates of peer victimization and successful school leadership. The aim of this thesis is to study methods for assessing peer victimization and pedagogical leadership in school. The results show that excluding other forms of peer victimization than bullying have serious implications for the identification of victims and may underestimate the full impact of peer victimization on children. Further, the validation of the Pedagogical and Social Climate (PESOC-PLP) scale is a step towards ensuring valid assessments of pedagogical school leadership. By strengthening the understanding of measurement methods of peer victimization and school leadership the aim is that the results from this thesis will contribute in providing a safe and positive school experience for children and adolescence and that it can be used as a valuable tool to combat peer victimization.

Although the etiology and etiological factors are controversial, this syndrome affects preferentially women between 30 and 60 years old. The purpose for this study was to analyze the symptoms of the fibromyalgia and their correlation with the psychosomatic body unit, from an interdisciplinary point of view. It was a psychoanalytical study in which we have analyzed field diary and life history of three female patients from the Physical Therapy Clinic of the Military Police of Pernambuco Hospital. The Freudian literature helped us to distinguish our own psychoanalytic study line. In addition, we have used literary works from other contemporary authors, such as Paul-Laurent Assoun, Didier Anzieu, Juan-David Nasio and Maria Helena Fernandes. This study is part of the research called The Social and the Body Psychopathology , in which the goal is to analyze the circuit of the drive in the psycho diseases of the body related to a social-contemporary context; and it is linked to the Fundamental Psychopathological and Psychoanalysis Research Group of the Psychological Post-Graduation Program of the Catholic University of Pernambuco / A fibromialgia pode ser conceituada como uma enfermidade reumatológica caracterizada pela presença de pontos dolorosos anatomicamente definidos, dor crônica, fadiga, distúrbio do sono e depressão entre outros achados. Controvérsias cercam a etiologia e os fatores desencadeantes e agravantes dessa síndrome que acomete preferencialmente mulheres entre 30 e 60 anos. O presente estudo se propõe aprofundar a análise dos sintomas fibromiálgicos e sua relação com a unidade do corpo psicossomático, sob um ponto de vista transdisciplinar. Trata-se de uma pesquisa psicanalítica, na qual analisamos diários de campo e histórias de vida de três pacientes do sexo feminino atendidas no ambulatório de fisioterapia do Hospital da Polícia Militar de Pernambuco. Buscamos, através do arsenal teórico freudiano, distinguir um corpo próprio da psicanálise. Para nos auxiliar nessa empreitada contamos com as contribuições de outros autores contemporâneos com trabalhos relevantes tais como: Paul-Laurent Assoun, Didier Anzieu, Juan-David Nasio e Maria Helena Fernandes. Notre thèse se propose de définir l’action de l’émotion esthétique dans le processus art-thérapeutique à médiation plastique, auprès de sujets souffrant de troubles psychotiques ou de problématiques de limites. Nous l’observons dans sa relation à la perception des limites psycho-corporelles, dans un contexte de prise en charge en groupe en institution hospitalière. Notre étude relate ainsi une spécificité de la situation d’artiste dans le lien art-thérapeutique, qui inclut sa sensibilité esthétique, en miroir aux questionnements esthétiques du sujet créant. Notre hypothèse générale est que l’émotion esthétique est reliée aux processus d’accordage (Stern, 1989) entre l’art-thérapeute et les sujets du groupe art-thérapeutique, et qu’elle signifie la mise en mouvement des perceptions et représentations de contenance et de limites chez ces sujets. La recherche s’est déroulée en deux étapes, auprès de quatre groupes de sujets adolescents et deux groupes de sujets adultes. Une première phase a permis de recueillir des résultats préalables à notre recherche principale qui s’est déroulée auprès de trois groupes, et où nous avons animé les ateliers d’art-thérapie en présence d’une observatrice et d’une soignante. Le recueil de données a comporté deux objectifs : comprendre le rôle de l’émotion esthétique dans les mouvements transférentiels au sein du groupe et les effets thérapeutiques de ces processus, en relation aux processus créatifs et aux représentations formelles dans les œuvres (grilles d’observation, auto-questionnaires, notes cliniques) ; et enrichir l’objectivation de l’effet thérapeutique de cette démarche, avec des tests avant/après (tests projectifs pour les six groupes, et, pour l’un d’entre eux, tests de perception esthétique avec eye-tracking, dont nous présentons les premiers résultats en développement). Il est apparu notamment un négatif d’éprouvés entre l’art-thérapeute (étrangeté dans l’émotion esthétique) et les sujets (bien-être dans l’émotion esthétique, souvent en rapport au geste), ainsi qu’un lien potentiel entre ce négatif et l’apparition de frontières ou de contenants dans les œuvres, aux moments forts des séances. Nous avons développé particulièrement cet aspect dans notre thèse, en prenant en compte la dimension pulsionnelle en lien à notre approche de l’émotion esthétique, à la rencontre entre pulsion scopique, regard esthétique et regard en miroir. / Our thesis aims to define the influence of aesthetic emotion in the process of visual art therapy, on subjects suffering from psychotic disorders or boundary issues. We shall observe the way it relates to psycho-corporal boundaries, in a context where leadership of a group is assumed in hospital institution. Our study thereby details a peculiarity specific to the situation of the artist in art-therapeutic relationship, which involves his or her aesthetic sensibility, creating a mirror-effect with the aesthetic questions of the subject expressing their creativity. Our overall hypothesis is that of a link between aesthetic emotion and the bonding process (Stern, 1989) between the art-therapist and the subjects within the art-therapy group, and that this triggers perceptions and representations of boundaries among these subjects. The research took place in two stages, on four groups of adolescent subjects and two groups of adult subjects. The first phase enabled the collection of results produced prior to our initial research which focused on three groups, and during which we held art-therapy sessions in the presence of an observer and a carer. Data was collected for two goals : to understand the role of aesthetic emotion in transferential movements within the group and the therapeutic effects of these processes, in relation to the creative processes and on the formal representations in the artistic work (observation sheets, self-administered questionnaires, clinical notes) ; and to enrich the objectification of the therapeutic effect of this approach, with tests before/after (projective tests for the six groups, and, for one of them, aesthetic perception tests with eye-tracking, the first results of which are presented under development). An element of mirroring became apparent between the art-therapist (a strangeness in the aesthetic emotion) and the subjects (well-being in the aesthetic emotion, often in relation to gestures), as well as a potential connection between this mirroring and the appearance of boundaries within artistic works, at pivotal moments during sessions. We have paid special attention to this aspect in our thesis, by considering drive aspect in accordance with our examination of aesthetic emotion, at the meeting point between the scopic drive, the aesthetic gaze and its mirror effect.

Online Self-Help as an Add-On to Inpatient Psychotherapy: Efficacy of a New Blended Treatment Approach

Background: Depression is one of the most frequent and costly mental disorders. While there is increasing evidence for the efficacy of online self-help to improve depression or prevent relapse, there is little evidence in blended care settings, especially combined with inpatient face-to-face psychotherapy. Therefore, we evaluated whether an evidencebased online self-help program improves the efficacy of inpatient psychotherapy. Methods: A total of 229 depressed patients were randomly allocated either to an online selfhelp program (intervention group [IG]; Deprexis) or an active control group (CG; weekly online information on depression) in addition to inpatient psychodynamic psychotherapy. Both groups had access to their respective experimental intervention for 12 weeks, regardless of inpatient treatment duration. Reduction of depressive symptoms, as measured with the Beck Depression Inventory-II, was the primary outcome at the end of the intervention (T2). Results: Depressive symptoms were statistically significantly lower in the IG compared to the active CG at T2 with a moderate betweengroup effect size of d = 0.44. The same applied to anxiety ( d = 0.33), quality of life ( d = 0.34), and self-esteem ( d = 0.38) at discharge from inpatient treatment (T1). No statistically significant differences were found regarding dysfunctional attitudes ( d = 0.14) and work ability ( d = 0.08) at T1. Conclusions: This is the first evidence for blended treatment combining online self-help with inpatient psychotherapy. The study opens new and promising avenues for increasing the efficacy of inpatient psychotherapy. Future studies should determine how integration of online self-help into the therapeutic process can be developed further.
