Drtina, Josef January 2010 (has links)
The goal of this diploma thesis is to evaluate economic situation of football club, which plays Czech football league (third higher football league in Czech Republic). The club is FK Spartak MAS Sezimovo Ústí in the legal form of joint stock company and civil association. The evaluation of economic situation is based on analysis of sport product at first, then there are applied methods and tools of financial analysis. These instruments make it possible to comprehensively assess the financial health of the company. The biggest benefit I see in this paper in describing and analyzing the economic situation of the football club playing the third-highest football competition in Czech Republic, because until now I did not find any study that deal with this issue.

Sitcoms in a League of Their Own: A Critical Analysis of Situational Feminism in The Golden Girls and Sex and the City

Glatzer, Elizabeth A. January 2010 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Bonnie S., PhD Jefferson / This paper examines the parallels between the situation comedies, The Golden Girls and Sex and the City. These shows possess striking similarities in their character portrayals and both emphasize the sisterly relationships of their characters. Using representative episodes, this paper illustrates that The Golden Girls and Sex and the City belong to the same unique subgenre of sitcoms that involve the non-traditional family formed by close female friends. In addition to criticism by genre, this paper also analyzes The Golden Girls and Sex and the City for each show’s individual manifestations of and implications for feminism. This study observes that the messages communicated by these shows are significant on their own, but are magnified when conveyed through repetition dictated by membership in a genre. Comparative analysis of The Golden Girls and Sex and the City intersects genre criticism and feminist criticism, creating a situational feminism that transcends entertainment with its social implications. / Thesis (BA) — Boston College, 2010. / Submitted to: Boston College. First-year university biology students' difficulties with graphing skills

Kali, Horatius Dumisani 17 November 2006 (has links)
Student Number : 0110601M - MSc research report - Faculty of Science / Based on the perceived need for improved graphing skills of students at first-year university level, two lecturers wanted to produce a web-based computer programme to improve first-year university biology students’ ability to construct and interpret graphs. Prior to designing and developing the package, however, it was important to establish whether there was a need for such a programme, and what might need to be included. The investigation to establish this provided the research described in this research report. A situation analysis was conducted to establish the nature and extent of the problems of graphing skills discussed anecdotally in the staff room of biology departments at a number of institutes. The ultimate intention (beyond this study) was to determine whether the problems were extensive and serious enough to warrant developing supplementary teaching materials to teach graphing skills. All lecturers (n = 5) and teaching assistants (n = 4) involved in using or teaching graphing skills to first-year biology students at one university were identified and interviewed. The purpose of the interviews was to establish the problems they believed are exhibited by their first-year students (with reference to graphing skills), and the nature and extent of current teaching of such skills in their first-year courses. In order to triangulate the information on student’s problems an item analysis was conducted of all questions incorporating graphs in two mid-year examination papers (n = 478 and n = 65), and students were observed during a practical session (n = 43). Results revealed that students experienced fewer problems with interpreting graphs than with graph construction. Of the four categories of graph interpretation problems identified by the teaching staff, the most popular category was students inability to describe quantitatively what the graph is showing (4 teaching staff). This was confirmed in the question paper analysis when 58% of the medics students (n=478) were unable to answer correctly one question involving several interpretation skills. No specific skills for graph interpretation were observed as being a problem in the College of Science question paper (n=65). Observations showed interrelating graphs as the biggest problem (5 students out of 43). Five categories for problems with graph construction were identified by the teaching staff. The most commonly mentioned problem (4 teaching staff) was identifying or plotting variables, whereas class observation revealed scaling axes as the most problematic skill shown by students (15 out of 43). In the exams, 80% of the medics students could not correctly answer one question requiring multiple skills including identifying variables, and 56% could not correctly answer another question that required skills that also involved identifying variables. The College of Science question paper revealed that 85% of the students could not supply the units of measurement for the y axis. A needs analysis was conducted to establish how the lecturers thought graphing skills should be taught and who should teach the skills. This information was needed to provide suggestions (from education “experts”) about what could be included in the computer programme to be developed subsequent to the research study, and how the teaching could best be done. Four members of the teaching staff said it was important to give students a lot of exercises to practice the skills and five members of the teaching staff said it was the responsibility of the university tutors or lab staff to teach graphing skills.

Lindgren, Sarah, Andersson, Sofia January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this study is to investigate how stress affects nurses in Luleå Kommun. The questions regarding this issue are;” Does stress affect the quality of the task?” and” How does stress affect the motivation nurses feel at work”. Qualitative data methods have been used. This is evident through the ten semi-structured interviews given to participating nurses employed within Luleå kommun. These interviews were subsequently processed through a thematic method of analysis. This approach is abductive, as the information has been collected and construed via empirical data and theory. The results show that the respondents felt their departments were short-handed. As a result, their work settings were perceived as stressful. Due to this high-stress environment, the respondents also felt that the support from their colleagues was of greater importance than the support from their management team. Due to the lack of staff, the contact between the management team and the employees was scarce. Further analysis of the results found that everyone serving in the hospital had the same basic idea and willingness to help individuals to a healthy life. Conclusively, if the same determination is shown, particularly from management team, to assist in a healthy working climate, through an increase in staff and more direct support given to employees, stress will most certainly be reduced in employees.

Journalism in the digital age: Transformation and convergence in China

Li, Yingchao January 2019 (has links)
This study explores how Chinese digital journalism transformation in the context of media convergence. The research asks the following questions: How is the Chinese journalism transforming according to the changes of journalism production and users’ consumption in the digital era? Is there any difference between traditional journalism and digital journalism considering the journalistic quality in China? How does digital journalism influence the work situation of Chinese journalists? The research was conducted by mix qualitative and quantitative design and it is based on 8 in-depth interviews with Chinese journalists and an online questionnaire (n=300) on consumers. By conducting these two different kinds of empirical data, it could present the reaction of digital journalism transformation from both journalists and users. Based on the theoretical framework of media convergence and journalistic quality, the analysis was carried out on three levels: A) Chinese journalism transformation during the media convergence; B) Journalistic quality within the Chinese journalism industry; C) The impact of digital journalism on journalists work situation. The main results showed that digital transformation is under the media convergence trend in China. From Chinese users’ side, the consumption of digital journalism production is accessible and traditional journalism was more trustworthy than digital journalism. From Chinese journalists’ side, the journalistic production in traditional journalism has the journalistic quality which is more accurate and authoritative. In the digital era, the journalists working life were busy and the new media workers were more stressed than journalists in traditional media organizations.

Ensinando matemática por meio de situações potencialmente adidáticas: estudo de casos envolvendo análise combinatória / Teaching mathematics through potentially adidactic situations: case studies involving combinatorial analysis.

Lima, Wanessa Aparecida Trevizan de 23 February 2015 (has links)
Facing a background of dramatic contradictions of the current mathematics teaching, in which the practice has been insufficient to achieve the stated objectives for such discipline in official documents, we suggest adidactic situation, a concept of Brousseaus (1933-)Theory of Situations, as a tool for learning mathematics more autonomous, ie, a learning that enables the development of investigative, interpretive, critical and creative skills. The Theory of Situations, prepared by the French researcher Brousseau, is an analysis tool. Thus, adidactic situation is a concept that allows to model certain learning situations to be analyzed. The objective of this paper is to show that this concept also serves as a methodological tool, as the teacher, holding it, can plan potentially adidactic situations in the classroom. Based on this theory and others of the French didactics, as well as in the conceptions of learning and development of Vygotsky (1896-1934), we analyze the application of a Teaching Sequence in three different moments, which also reveal three different school settings and three passes from my experience as a researcher and teacher. The Didactic Sequence, planned aiming at intensifying one adidactic situation, addresses the topic of Combinatorial Analysis through a fictional narrative with challenges facing High School. Throughout this study, we could achieve far more than we wanted: we realized that there are factors present in school (whether it be public or private) that favor and factors that disfavor the emergence of anadidactic situation. However, we continue to believe that planning lessons to promote adidactic situations, with all the limitations present in our educational reality is the best way to reach the objectives intended to mathematics teaching, taking into account the conceptions of learning we adopted.

The conditions of teaching courses of geography in Brazil: a territorial and situational analysis

Fiori, Vivian 20 February 2013 (has links)
This thesis analyses the existing conditions of the Geography Teaching Courses with the mediation of the Brazilian territories. These courses have a strict relation with the historical, social, political and spatial processes. The events, especially those related to Higher Education, are centrally for understanding some of their main characteristics. Although within new political, educational and spatial conditions, some problematic aspects of these courses - that remain even these days - were detected in this research, such as the relation of the profile of undergraduate Geography Teaching Courses and Bachelors Degree Courses, the dichotomy between Physical and Human Geography, as well as the lack of teachers, among others. For carrying this research out, courses created after 1996 were focused on in the analysis, especially due to the influence of the policies established by the Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education (1996); by the specific legislation of Teaching Courses (2002); by the National Curricular Guidelines for the Geography Courses (2002); by the evaluation system of courses and by the Expansion Plan of Federal Institutions (2007). The qualitative and quantitative data of this thesis were, mainly, gathered from the testimony of teachers, coordinators and students of undergraduate Geography Teaching Courses in Brazil; from The Anísio Teixeira National Institute of Studies and Educational Research (Inep); from the social economical questionnaire answered by Geography students, who did the National Exam of Students Performance (Enade), on the dimensions related to teachers, students and curricular elements of the courses. With these data, graphics, tables and maps were produced. After a general overview of the courses, a detailed analysis of the current situation of the Geography Teaching Courses offered in Amazônia, Maranhão, Piauí, Pernambuco all regions/ cities in the North and Northeast of Brazil - was provided. Geography courses offered in the Distance Modality, which were implemented in an inner Brazilian territory, were also analysed. The research results highlighted that the implementation of courses in the inner territory of Brazil has created some singularities in the researched courses. These singularities are related to the formation and the territorial dynamics of Brazil and also to the kind of institution in which the course is offered, as well to the type of modality of the course.
