Healthcare Provider’s Perceptions on Feeding Difficulties and Educational Practices in Infants with Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome (NOWS)

White, Katelyn 01 May 2024 (has links) (PDF)
This study examined healthcare professionals’ perceptions on feeding difficulties experienced by infants with NOWS, the involvement of SLP in care, knowledge and experience levels of professionals, and trends in education and follow up care. A 34-question survey was developed to obtain data from participants involved in the care of exposed infants using the secure webbased RedCap™ platform. Nonparametric inferential statistics and descriptive analysis were used to interpret data. Feeding difficulties in infants exposed were reported by all respondents with SLP involvement reported by 42.2%. Results found that 51.9% of respondents were confident in their ability to educate families about feeding difficult with 60% reported inadequate time to provide education. Discharge follow up was inconsistent amongst facilities. The study supports early involvement of SLPs to address feeding difficulties and improve education.

Γιακουμέλου, Ιωάννα 09 March 2009 (has links)
In this ph.d. thesis, the molecular structure and catalytic reactivity of V2O5/TiO2 and CrOx/TiO2 catalysts was studied for the SCR reaction. Furthermore, the molecular structure of the unique SLP catalysts V2O5-Cs2SO4/SiO2 was studied for the reaction of the oxidation of SO2. This study was performed by the use of in-situ Raman spectroscopy in various “real” gas conditions (O2, NH3/N2, NH3/NO/N2, NH3/NO/O2/N2, 8% H2O/O2/N2, SO2/N2, SO2/O2/N2) and temperatures. In general, at low loadings isolated species are formed, and as the loading is increased, the formation of dimeric / oligomeric species is favoured. In situ ESR spectroscopy gave supplementary information about the structure of V4+, Cr5+ & Cr3+ species in oxidative / reductive environment. The behaviour of TOF numbers showed that the reaction is accelerated in the presence of neighbour vanadium centers (in case of vanadium catalysts). Finally, the vanadium / caesium catalysts are the unique in their kind molten salt catalysts, were in reaction conditions, the active phase is in liquid form or dissolved in a non-volatile solution which is “hosted” inside the pores of the support. Activation of these catalysts, following exposure to a SO2/O2/N2 mixture, results in uptake of SO3 and formation of a pyrosulfate molten salt which – as shown by in-situ Raman spectroscopy – vanadium occurs predominantly in the form if binuclear (VO)2O(SO4)44- which are considered to be the active species for the reaction.

Monitorování dechu během terapie pacientů / Breath monitoring during motion therapy

Koťová, Markéta January 2013 (has links)
This semestral thesis deals with continuous monitoring of pulmonary ventilation during the patients' theraphy and focuses especially on monitoring of their ventilation processes. It is necessarry to detect, monitor and differentiate abdominal and thoracic breathing during the theraphy. This thesis describes the very basic and common method, a spirometry. Next, an overview of more advanced state-of-the-art methods based on both, tactile and proximity principles is given. In addition to that, two recently developed methods by BUT are discussed as well -- a tactile-based measurement similar to blood pressure sensor and a proximity-based measurement method employing TOF cameras. The data acquired by these two methods are proccesed and examined in order to evaluate and justify their performance in a real application.

“Man famlar lite i mörkret” : Lärares erfarenheter och upplevelser av att arbeta med barn med språkstörning / Fumbling in the Dark : Teachers’ Experiences of Working with Children with DLD

Chepngeno, Mercy, Joyce, Ellen, York, Alana January 2023 (has links)
Developmental language disorder (DLD) is a communication disorder which can greatly affect a child’s ability to achieve academic goals. In Sweden, all children have the right to receive the support they need in school. To ensure the needs of students with DLD are being met, more studies are needed regarding teachers’ knowledge about DLD as a diagnosis, their experiences related to working with these students, and their experiences of relevant interprofessional teamwork. The purpose of this study is therefore to shed light on the professional situation for teachers of students with DLD. The results of the study are based on focus group interviews with 19 teachers from 17 different counties in Sweden. The interviews were transcribed and then analyzed using content analysis. The study found that the participating teachers experience DLD as a diagnosis which greatly affects students’ goal achievement as well as their socio-emotional well being. The participants also underlined the lack of instruction related to DLD in teacher training programs and described that this lack of instruction sometimes led them to feel unprepared in their work with these students. Interprofessional collaboration was lifted as an especially important aspect of work with children with DLD, but many experienced the circumstances at their workplace as suboptimal for effective teamwork. The teachers specifically expressed a desire for more collaboration with SLPs and highlighted the importance of knowledgeable and competent school leadership. The results of the study indicate a need for children with DLD to be more highly prioritized both in the education of teachers but also in the allocation of resources within schools. Additionally, in order to achieve more equitable access to education for these students, teachers feel that SLPs need to be more closely involved at the school level.

Nilsson, Emanuel, Pichler, Petra January 2018 (has links)
The Multimodal Communication Screening Test for persons with Aphasia (MCST-A). / Individuals with aphasia often suffer from their language difficulties and experience them as a serious problem. When the ability to communicate effectively through spoken language is insufficient, an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) may be required. This allows the person, in addition to speech, to communicate with for example pictures, gestures or body language. The procedure for choosing a suitable AAC is complicated, sometimes an aid that doesn’t suit the needs of the individual is provided by speech-language pathologists and sometimes an aid isn’t provided at all. In order to develop and improve the ability to determine if and what aids should be used, Garrett and Lasker developed the assessment tool The Multimodal Communication Screening Test for Individuals with Aphasia (MCST-A). The main purpose of this study was to translate MCST-A into Swedish. The study was divided into three parts; 1) translation and adaptation of MCST-A to Swedish, 2) testing the translation on persons without aphasia, and 3) a first test on persons with moderate to severe chronic aphasia, where their results on MCST-A were compared with an estimate of their ability to communicate with AAC in daily life. The translation and adaptation led to a working version in Swedish. The results from the persons with aphasia is in line with previous research, where the results on MCST-A reflects the estimated ability to communicate with AAC in their daily lives. Thus, MCST-A can be a useful tool to determine whether if and on what level aids can be used by a person with aphasia. However, it’s not possible to draw a generalizable conclusion based on the results of this study as the sample was small.
