Monitoring system and alarms visualization

Leite Santana, Michelle January 2011 (has links)
Along with the popularization of the SMS (Short Message Service) as a communication tool among big companies, such as flight and train companies, post offices and banks, a new branch started to take place in the mobile communication industry: bulk-SMS business. The companies send the SMS to their costumers through an aggregator, which in turn send the SMS further to the customers’ mobile phone. The aggregator consequently needs to monitor the SMS traffic constantly so they can assure good quality of their services. In case of an interruption in the system, their support group needs to be notified directly, so the problem can be fixed straightaway. The aim of this project was to develop an application integrated to the intranet of a company that works in the business of bulk-SMS (CLX Networks), in order to replace the current monitoring system, called OpenNMS. The system was developed using Zend Framework (PHP) and MySQL database. The project resulted in an application that allows the administrator to configure alarms and notifications and to add clients and suppliers accounts to the monitoring system. Whereas the interaction between the user administrator and the system is already implemented, the connection between the system and the CDR- and RR-database is still under development.

Promoting Class Interactionsupported by Personal ResponseSystems

Reznik-Lavi, Noga January 2015 (has links)
Interaction is an important and essential aspect of the educational learning processes, since it can be used in a wide range of educational settings, in diverse ways (Anderson, 2002). Personal response system technologies (PRS), also known as Clickers, facilitates interactivity with an audience, enabling participants to instantly respond to posed questions and provides a representation of the collected data. The implementation of such systems in real pedagogical settings enables teachers to obtain interactions within big classes while preserving the lesson’s flow (Martyn, 2007).SMS-HIT is a PRS based on mobile devices enabling student interactions via SMS or web, designed and developed in order to support learning and assessment activities in real educational or training situations (Kohen-Vacs, Ronen, & Bar-Ness, 2012). The users create and manage various activities in different topics and pedagogical goals. Types of interactivities offered by this system include voting by selection, free text and submission of quantitative data.A Design based research was conducted in order to evaluate different capabilities that SMS-HIT enables; this study aims to develop additional types of interactions to be added to the system, in order to promote the use of class interaction supported by PRS. During each of the three research iterations, the users’ usage, needs and suggestions have been investigated. According to the findings suitable additions were developed using .NET, combined with JQuery, HTML and CSS.The additional capabilities that have been developed, engage in a new ability of SMS-HIT - sequences activities: creating and managing sequences activities, presenting them and allowing audience to respond to them using mobile devices – one activity after the other. As a result of improving the system, users enjoy new and effective capabilities that were developed to meet these needs. In practice, the use of the SMS-HIT has become wider as more users create varied activities which contains diverse pedagogies.

Pratiques scripturales et écriture SMS. Analyse linguistique d’un corpus de langue française / Scriptural practices and SMS writing. Linguistic analysis of a French-language corpus

André, Frédéric 24 April 2017 (has links)
Since the beginning of the XXIst century, the SMS practice questions the use of traditional linguistics norms in daily writings. According to the history of writing, its rapid growth as a prefered practice in interpersonal communication refers to questions about the dissemination of any emergent practice: how people use-it? In which way does a support such as a mobile phone influence the way of spelling? Could the writings depend on the age, gender, place of residency, education level or experience of SMS? Does SMS writing have homogeneous characteristics? Is-it related to the oral language? Can it be the cradle of the evolutions of written language? By manual analysis of linguistic of more than 10,000 authentic SMS in French, from corpora collected in Belgium, Reunion Island, Switzerland, Quebec and southern France, this study shows that SMS writing is aimed at personal appropriation of the graphic code, without orthographic standard systematically suffering. It shows that SMS writing reveals everyone’s identity, in terms of their relationship to writing and ability to adapt the discourse. This research also indicates that SMS writing can sometimes present caracteristics that account for the existence of a strong link between graphic code and cognitive oralisation of a message.

Personalized Poetry Generator : Development of a mobile application for Android called Deleteby Haiku which generate poems in the Japanese poetry form haiku based on user’s SMS-logs / Personlig poesigenerator

Hagnell, Fredrik, Zander, Karl-Axel January 2013 (has links)
Researchers at Mobile Life Centre are working on a project called “Delete by Haiku - Concept development and visualization of persistence/an SMS log dilemma” (subproject of “Re-Mobiling -breaking apart time and technology”, 2012-). The purpose of that project is to evaluate an approach of handling the growing amount of users’ digital data in phones (especially SMS logs) by trying to create, in the deletion process of old SMS, something potentially meaningful in a playful manner: poems. The students’ project aimed to develop a concretized demo for their idea, an SMS log deleting and poetry generating application, more particularly the Japanese poetry form “haiku” as chosen style, developed on the mobile platform Android. The goal: to give the researchers a basis to proceed with into the user study and demonstration phase of their project. The result of the development process was a full scale working demo application, although naturally left with many improvement and addition possibilities due to the limited time plan for the student project, and presentation of solved solutions of arisen programming and design implementation challenges.

Short message service (sms) and loneliness in a group of adolescents / Gerda Mclachlan

Mclachlan, Gerda January 2006 (has links)
The aim of the research was to explore the relationship between the use of SMS communication by adolescents and their perceived feelings of loneliness. The SMS seems to be the new communication medium for young people as they are most comfortable with and enthusiastic about this technology and its applications. The adolescent stage is characterised by the building of own social networks, the definition of boundaries between themselves and parents, self-presentation constructed on a social stage in relation to others and characterised by the development of romantic attachments, feelings of anxiety, self-esteem development and maintenance which may result in feelings of isolation and loneliness. Loneliness can be defined as an emotional and cognitive reaction to having fewer and less satisfying relationships than one desires. This includes the absence or self-perceived absence of satisfying social relationships and the unpleasant experience that occurs when a person's network of social relations is deficient in some important way. The motivation for this research was to get insight into the relationship between the use of SMS communication and loneliness in the South African context. An internet search on the 13th February 2006 indicated that no research has yet been done on the relationship between the use of the SMS and loneliness of adolescents in South Africa. An availability sample was used. One hundred and seventeen Grade 11 and 12 learners from two schools in the North West Province participated in the research project. An explanatory cross-sectional survey design with features of qualitative data analysis was used in this investigation. Three methods were used to obtain data, namely the UCLA Loneliness Scale (Version 3), Satisfaction with Life Scale as well as a self-compiled questionnaire. After scoring the UCLA scale the researcher determined which of the participants had the highest level of loneliness and the lowest level of loneliness. Two groups were chosen, each consisting or 15 learners, according to the highest and lowest scores on the loneliness scale respectively. These two groups represented the top and bottom 14% of the sample. The data obtained from the self-compiled questionnaire and Satisfaction with Life scale were qualitatively compared. Analysis of the data indicated that there might be a relationship between the experience of loneliness and the following: gender; number of siblings; involvement in romantic relationships; amount of money spent on bill (financial constraints); quantity of SMS messages sent and received; need to stay in contact with friends over the weekend; reasons for sending SMS messages; feelings regarding sending or receiving SMS messages; feelings regarding no response to SMS messages; feeling with regard to not receiving SMS messages from a friend for a long time; initiating of friendships via cellphone and the SMS rather than face-to-face communication. Suggestions for future research projects were made. / Thesis (M.A. (Clinical Psychology))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2007

To write as you speak : The impact of pupils’ text- and chat language on writing performance in school

Johansson, Anna, Ucan, Sivan January 2017 (has links)

Jonsson, Elin January 2019 (has links)
