Hence, if relationships can be established between poetry and painting, likewise, there are some possible relationships amongst the literary text and other arts and medias. This study hypothesizes that similar cosmovisions express similar translations by means of different languages. The goal in it is to demonstrate that the literary text can not only come close to the visual text, but it can also point out some similar translation relationships, by means of signic collections, the characteristic of the language employed, or similar cosmovisions. And through the bias provided by the image, it opens itself to other translations and modernizations. So, the starting point was, especially, abduction (Peirce, 1989; 2000; s.d.; Santaella, 1992; 1993; 2000; 2002; Colapietro, 2003), hearing the object and the possibility of fallibilism. After the interaction of the Dynamic Interpreting Agent (who is also the Interpreter) with the Sign being analyzed, it was possible to observe, in a yet disorganized fashion, the presence of a surreal trend in the material that was being investigated. This was done by checking the writings: sparse notes, reflections, drafts, statements and dated newspapers (Salles, 1990; 2000; 2001; 2002). The data thus obtained indicated a strong trend of the brazilian writer Clarice Lispector towards surreal poetic writing (Bradley, 2001; Breton, 1924; 1970; 1998; Chénieux-Gendron, 1992), hence reasserting the bretonian theories. From there onwards, with the aim of ascertaining the existence of surrealism in Lispector s works, the option was made to analyze the products. The process continued with the analysis of Água Viva (1973) and Laços de Família (1974), which confirmed previous observations. Such analysis yielded a text that not only showed evidence of the presence of surreal poetic writing in the lispectorian work, but also a strong trend towards figurative language which provoked an approximation to the works of René Magritte, in whose work, not only the image but also the word are used as reference. After confirming the presence of the surreal poetic writing in the literary text, and after establishing the presence of the picture through description, it was decided to search for the pictures both in the literary text and in the plastic production, and the correspondence between both was thus made very clear. The transformation occurred after the analysis of the translation of A hora da estrela (1978), into a film by Suzana Amaral (1986). The signic collections brought both languages into close proximity and the visuality present in the literary text made it possible to translate the text into the language of cinema. Therefore, one can observe semiotics, through semiosis, as a vehicle of transdisciplinarity, for the eyes of the researcher are one of the links of the semiotic chain, therefore discarding the Cartesian paradigm. The different languages are, thus, unique means people use to translate, explain or understand the surrounding world. Once the Cartesian paradigm has been discarded, this research reveals through direct participation of the subject (Interpreter, Dynamic Interpreting, Semiosis generator) with the object of the analysis, the possibility of bringing different languages closer. This fact merely reasserts Horace s words and supports the report of Simonides de Cós on the fact that painting is silent poetry and poetry is a talking painting. This discussion, however, revolves around this issue: If one follows this path, in view of the transdisciplinarian web that the process requires, would it be possible to arrive at similar results in approximations with other artists? Maybe what happened in this research was a coincidence, in terms of similar signic collections. In view of that, a proposal is made to repeat the methodology presented here, all the while keeping in mind, however, the possibility of fallibilism / A partir da expressão ut pictura poesis da Ars poética de Horácio relacionaram-se os signos das artes. Portanto, se há possibilidade de relacionamentos da poesia com a pintura, há, também, do texto literário com outras artes e com outras mídias. O presente estudo parte da hipótese de que cosmovisões semelhantes expressam, por meio de linguagens diferentes, traduções similares.Procura-se demonstrar que o texto literário, seja por meio das recolhas sígnicas, seja pelo caráter de sua linguagem, seja por meio de cosmovisões semelhantes, pode não só se aproximar do texto visual como também apontar relações de tradução semelhantes. E que, pelo viés da figura, abrem-se para outras traduções e atualizações. Para tal, partiu-se, sobretudo, da abdução (Peirce, 1989; 2000; s.d.; Santaella, 1992; 1993; 2000;2002; Colapietro, 2003), da escuta do objeto e da possibilidade do falibilismo. Depois da interação do interpretante dinâmico (que é também o intérprete) com o signo em análise, observou-se, de forma ainda desorganizada, a presença da tendência surreal no material examinado. Isso se deu pela verificação dos escritos de processo: anotações esparsas, reflexões, rascunhos, depoimentos e jornais datados (Salles, 1990; 2000; 2001; 2002). Os dados obtidos indicaram uma forte tendência da escritora às poéticas surreais (Bradley, 2001; Breton, 1924, 1970, 1998; Chénieux-Gendron, 1992), e isso reafirmava as teorias bretonianas. A partir daí, optou-se, para a verificação do surrealismo em Lispector, pela análise de produtos. Sendo assim, analisaram-se Água Viva (1973) e Laços de família (1974), e o verificado, anteriormente, confirmou-se. Durante a análise de tais obras, o texto evidenciava não só a presença das poéticas surreais na obra lispectoriana como também uma forte tendência figurativa, o que provocou uma aproximação com as obras de René Magritte, que tem, além da imagem, a palavra como referência à sua produção. Depois da confirmação das poéticas surreais no texto literário e a verificação da presença da figura por meio da descrição, decidiu-se pelo rastreamento das figuras tanto no texto literário quanto no plástico, tornando-se clara a correspondência de ambos. A transformação se deu a partir da análise da tradução de A hora da estrela (1978) em película homônima de Suzana Amaral (1986). As recolhas sígnicas aproximaram ambas as linguagens e a visualidade presente no texto literário propiciou sua tradução para o cinema. Observa-se, portanto, a semiótica, via semiose, como veículo de transdisciplinaridade, porque os olhos do pesquisador são um dos elos da corrente semiósica, descartando, assim, o paradigma cartesiano. As diferentes linguagens são maneiras peculiares que cada um tem para traduzir, explicar ou entender o mundo que o rodeia. Descartado o paradigma cartesiano, percebe-se, por meio desta pesquisa, que, por intermédio da participação do sujeito (intérprete, interpretante dinâmico, produtor de semiose) com o objeto em análise, a possibilidade de estreitamento de diferentes linguagens. Isso apenas reafirma as palavras de Horácio e fundamenta o comentário de Simonides de Cós, sobre o fato de ser a pintura uma poesia muda e a poesia uma pintura falante. O que se coloca em discussão, entretanto, é: será que por esse caminho, tendo em vista a teia transdisciplinar que o processo exige, poder-se-ia chegar a resultados semelhantes em aproximações com outros artistas? Talvez, nesta pesquisa, tenha havido apenas coincidências de recolhas sígnicas semelhantes. Diante disso, o que ora se propõe, é a repetição da metodologia aqui apresentada, sem perder de vista, contudo, a possibilidade do falibilismo

This study therefore is to investigate how to structure those bonds mediated by the spread of the virtualization of everyday experience and that currently result from communication media bios (conceptual metaphor used by Muniz Sodré to designate new forms of life and socialization driven by the current stage of cognitive capitalism). In other words, this research seeks to analyze and interpret the ontological character of interactive links which are reflected in real time and space self-referential and, therefore, will give the specific internal communicative action. Hence, our hypothesis is that the communication capacity of a medium is directly related to how the operating systems (codes) are organized into the various complex communicative (language). In this sense, self-referentiality of digital media for interfering in the production and distribution of informative content, while it changes the meaning of communicative procedures by means of another diagram of communicating that occurs in a continuous way and evolutionary designing a mapping between culture and ecological environment. This fact has led us to other parameters epistemological who see the bios of the media, despite its vagueness and weaknesses as an object of study, as a new, potentially capable of promoting an ecological science of communication nowadays / Uma das temáticas recorrentes nos estudos comunicativos tem sido o da possibilidade de proposição de um outro modo de tratar a comunicação que dê conta de compreender as recentes mudanças no ambiente da cultura provocadas pelo novo instrumental social das tecnologias do virtual. O objetivo desta pesquisa, portanto, é o de investigar como se estruturam àqueles vínculos mediatizados pela crescente expansão da virtualização da experiência cotidiana e que, contemporaneamente, decorrem da comunicação bios midiática (metáfora conceitual empregada por Muniz Sodré para designar novas formas de vida e socialização impulsionadas pela atual fase do capitalismo cognitivo). Em outros termos, esta pesquisa procura analisar e interpretar o caráter ontológico dos vínculos interativos que se manifestam através do tempo real e do espaço auto-referente e que, consequentemente, vão conferir especificidade à ação comunicativa. Nesse sentido, nossa hipótese é a de que a capacidade de comunicação de um meio está diretamente relacionada ao modo como os sistemas operativos (códigos) são organizados dentro dos diferentes complexos comunicativos (linguagens). Neste sentido, a auto-referencialidade do meio digital deve interferir na produção e na distribuição dos conteúdos informativos, ao mesmo tempo em que, altera o significado dos procedimentos comunicativos por meio de um outro diagrama do comunicar que ocorre de maneira processual e evolutiva, desenhando uma cartografia ecológica entre cultura e meio. Tal fato coloca-nos diante de outros parâmetros epistemológicos que vêem o bios midiático, apesar de sua indeterminação e fragilidades enquanto objeto de estudo, como um novo meio, potencialmente, capaz de promover uma ciência ecológica da comunicação na contemporaneidade

This happens because such messages go into the recipient s mind, beneath the threshold of his conscious alertness, without any filtering, so as to allow for the effects intended by the originating source to take the individual to act regardless of his own will and with no evaluation. Through the concepts of C. S. Peirce s semiotics, this study aims at understanding the functioning of the process of apprehension of subliminal materials in perception, and intends to contribute to the update of this concept by adding a semiotic direction and a treatment as a language study. Printed advertisements in nationwide magazines are analyzed to view the evidence they carry of the elements that are at stake in the articulation of visual and verbal elements, a play with signs which escape to the sight and perceptual judgment of the recipient. The concept of subliminal is discussed in the bases of the definitions of perception and perceptual judgment, with emphasis to the fact that the subliminal works as an apprehension underneath the perceptual judgment. The theoretical and methodological bases are enhanced by further definitions from Peirce s sign theory, covering the concepts of first, other phenomenological categories, triad sign structure, notion of consciousness, collateral experience, beyond the associations by similarity and contiguity as present in the various language approaches / A interpretação clássica de Subliminar é de que há um certo potencial de sedução e manipulação ampliado com a presença, nas mensagens, de componentes apresentados de forma sub-reptícia, velada, atingindo livremente o subconsciente a ponto de afetar as emoções. Isso ocorre porque tais mensagens penetram na mente do receptor, abaixo do limiar da consciência, sem que haja a ação de algum tipo de filtro. E, desse modo, são capazes de produzir os efeitos intencionados pela fonte codificadora - de levar o indivíduo a direcionar sua vontade sem um mínimo grau de avaliação. À luz da semiótica peirceana, este estudo busca compreender o funcionamento do processo de apreensão dos materiais subliminares na percepção e pretende oferecer abordagens de atualização desse conceito, no momento em que lhe é conferido um enfoque semiótico e um tratamento como linguagem. São analisados anúncios publicitários impressos, veiculados em revistas de circulação nacional, nos quais se pode evidenciar, na articulação entre os elementos visuais e verbais, um jogo na construção sígnica que escapa ao olhar e ao julgamento perceptivo do receptor. A noção de subliminar é discutida tendo, como foco, as definições de percepção e julgamento perceptivo, com destaque para o fato de que o subliminar se manifesta como uma apreensão situada abaixo do julgamento perceptivo. A base teórico-metodológica é reforçada com definições existentes na teoria dos signos enunciada pelo referido autor, englobando os conceitos de primeiridade, demais categorias fenomenológicas, relação triádica do signo, noção de consciência, de experiência colateral, além das associações por similaridade e contigüidade presentes nos enfoques de linguagem

Through proposed goals, (a) The description of the brands communicative process as a social speech; (b) The demonstration of the constituition of the brands meaning by the circulation of useful effect; and (c) An articulation of the social theory that bases the process; The intention is to explore it as a theoretical explanatory possibility through the speech in the social semiosis. The thesis is justified through the development of the communicative approach to the constituition of the trademarks meaning (theoretical relevance) and through the possibility of intervention in the social reality from the knowledge of how the brand is instituted as a social speech (social relevance). Its about a theoretical work, of qualitative nature, from an exploratory research, proposing the construction of a brands semiosis. It was concluded that the constituition of the comtemporary brands meaning essentially by a process of production of social sense in the consumer society is theoretically pertinent. / A tese aborda a constituição do significado da marca sob a perspectiva de seu discurso na sociedade de consumo. Por meio dos objetivos propostos, (a) a descrição do processo comunicacional da marca como um discurso social; (b) a demonstração da constituição do significado da marca pela circulação de efeitos de sentido; e (c) a articulação da teoria social que fundamenta o processo, intenta-se explorá-la como possibilidade teórica explicativa por meio do discursivo na semiose social. A tese justifica-se pelo desenvolvimento de uma abordagem comunicacional para a constituição do significado da marca (relevância teoria) e pela possibilidade de interferência na realidade social a partir do conhecimento de como a marca institui-se como um discurso social (relevância social). Trata-se de um trabalho teórico, de natureza qualitativa, a partir de uma pesquisa exploratória, com vistas a propor a construção de uma semiose da marca. Concluiu-se que é teoricamente pertinente a constituição do significado da marca contemporânea fundamentalmente por um processo de produção de sentido social na sociedade de consumo.

As contribuições desta dissertação à Semiótica Cognitiva e Filosofia da Arte incluem, principalmente: a aproximação interdisciplinar entre conceitos e ferramentas teóricas oriundas da Filosofia de Processos, Semiótica, Solução Situada de Problemas, e Biologia Evolutiva; o fornecimento de uma série de análise de exemplos incluindo dança, literatura, música e tarefas de solução de problemas; a sugestação de uma estrutura conceitual para abordar fenômenos estéticos cognitivos. / This work suggests a framework for a pragmatist oriented Cognitive Aesthetics based on Peirce's Process Philosophy of Signs and Cognitive Semiotics. This little explored approach is capable of providing new methods and premises for investigating the complex relationship between artworks, meaning, environment, artistic paradigms, and creativity. We provide: (i) a notion of artistic creativity as related to cognitive niche construction dynamics; (ii) a model of the relationship between meaning, creativity, artifacts and cognitive niches; (iii) a model of cognitive niche construction through iconic semiosis. The contributions of this thesis to Cognitive Semiotics and Philosophy of Art include, mainly: the interdisciplinary approximation between concepts and theoretical tools from Process Philosophy, Semiotics, Situated Problem Solving and Evolutionary Biology; the provision of a series of example analysis in dance, literature, music and in problem solving tasks; the suggestion of a conceptual framework to approach cognitive aesthetic phenomena.

Affordances of External Representations in Instructional Design: The Effect of Narrative and Imagery in Learning.

Consisting of both theoretical and empirical inquires, this study examines the primary functions of narrative and the relationship between narrative and mental imagery. The study proposes a new framework to interpret semiotic resources. Combining this with the linguistic functional theory of Halliday (1978), a functional method to empirically investigate semiotic representations was also developed. In the empirical inquiry, the study developed a latent construct method to empirically test the effects of narrative in a real learning situation. This study is the first to investigate the functional relationship between narrative and mental imagery, and among the first to suggest a theory and empirically investigate representations of a multimodal nature. The study is also among the first to use latent constructs to investigate the learning experience in a real educational setting. Data were collected from 190 library professionals who enrolled in three sections (two in narrative and one in plain text) of an online course administered through Vista 4.0 and who completed the course and responded to several instruments. Essay data (n = 82 x 2) were analyzed using content analysis based on the narrative analysis framework developed. Quantitative data analysis methods include univariate data analysis, factor analysis, and structural equation modeling that tests the proposed model and verifies the relationships between the latent variables. Overall, the findings support the hypotheses about the functional effects of narrative identified, and narrative is found to provide a favorable and positive learning context which is tested by the proposed model of learning experience measured by several latent constructs (X2 = 31.67, df = 47, p = .9577, RMSEA = .00, SRMR = .047, NNFI = 1.05, CFI = 1.00, and GFI = .94). The results indicate that participants who enrolled in the narrative sections of the course gained higher creative scores and showed better results in performance-based and attribution-based experiences. The model testing results indicate that even though more time spent during learning led to better outcome and performance in both groups, more time spent means more satisfaction for the individuals in the narrative group, but led to less satisfaction for the individuals in the non-narrative group.

Telling them, how to work with a program, he or she designed for them. Apart from teoretical foundation, semiotic engineering dispose also with research methods that can be used to evaluate a way an interface communicates with its users. This way it can compare with other non-semitic theories in this branch of research and thanks to its orientation to communication, it is even able to bring new points o wiev. Its theory and methods are used in this thesis as a basis for creation of a set of rules for user interface designers, that shoul serve them as guidelines for their thinking about interface. It turns out that semiotic theory is capable of bringing concrete results for praxis in the area of interaction design and it is not bound only to the academic enviroment.

[pt] Esta dissertação relata uma proposta de identificação e descrição das configurações existentes nos recursos e técnicas empregados na engenharia do papel, enquanto dispositivos narrativos e ilustrativos na construção do livro móvel. O objetivo foi demonstrar as relações de coerência e coesão entre os textos verbais e não verbais aplicados ao livro pop-up. O livro pop-up (livro móvel) permeia e cativa o universo infantojuvenil com suas peculiaridades e multiformas. Os mecanismos da engenharia do papel tornam-se cada vez mais arrojados no intuito de atrair e expandir os potenciais sensoriais e sinestésicos que estimulam a imaginação e intensificam a interação do leitor com a leitura. Como metodolologia foram desenvolvidos estudos sobre as funções da linguagem, sobre coerência e coesão que se estabelecem no design de um livro pop-up. Vinte mil léguas submarinas, de Sam Ita, editado em 2010 pela Publifolha serviu como caso exemplar. Com o entendimento das relações entre o textos literário, ilustrativo e escultórico, foi possível concluir que, aproveitando as magnitudes das esculturas de papel, as bases ilustradas das páginas e os elementos dinâmicos das histórias em quadrinhos para encaminhar a narrativa, possibilitaram que as distintas linguagens se tornam complementares. Dessa forma, os estudos sobre a linguagem verbal e linguagem não verbal são igualmente importantes, visto que a maioria de escritores, designers e engenheiros do papel têm a mesma intenção, colaborar e agregar valor ao livro, seja ele pop-up, picture book, livro brinquedo ou qualquer outra ramificação do livro ilustrado. Na adaptação de Sam Ita a soberania dos pop-ups e a dinâmica criativa dos quadrinhos, aguçam o imaginário e, principalmente, os sentidos sensórios e sinestésicos do leitor. / [en] This dissertation reports a proposal of identification and description of the existing configurations in the resources and techniques used in paper engineering, as narrative and illustrative devices in the construction of the mobile book. The objective was to demonstrate the relations of coherence and cohesion between verbal and non-verbal texts applied to the pop-up book. The pop-up book (mobile book) permeates and captivates the universe of children and youth with their peculiarities and multiforms. The mechanisms of paper engineering become increasingly bold in order to attract and expand the sensory and synesthetic potentials that stimulate the imagination and intensify the reader s interaction with reading. As methodology, studies were developed on the functions of language, on coherence and cohesion that are established in the design of a pop-up book. Twenty thousand leagues underwater, from Sam Ita, published in 2010 by Publifolha served as an exemplary case. With the understanding of the relations between the literary, illustrative and sculptural texts, it was possible to conclude that, taking advantage of the magnitudes of the paper sculptures, the illustrated bases of the pages and the dynamic elements of the comics to guide the narrative, enabled the different languages become complementary. Thus, studies on verbal language and non-verbal language are equally important, since most writers, designers, and paper engineers have the same intention, to collaborate and add value to the book, be it pop-up, picture book, book toy or any other branch of the picture book. In Sam Ita s adaptation of the sovereignty of pop-ups and the creative dynamics of comics, they sharpen the imagination and especially the sensory and synesthetic senses of the reader.

El producte com a fenòmen de comunicació social

El propòsit d'aquesta tesi es fonamenta en demostrar que el producte és un mitjà de comunicació social del que les persones es serveixen comunicativament -en funció del seu caràcter simbòlic- que permet a l'ésser humà interactuar amb el seu món social, cultural i personal. Aquest treball explica el paper que els productes juguen com a mitjans de comunicació social. La tesi parteix del fet que les pràctiques socials produeixen significat i sentit en la cultura material, partint de la proposició pragmàtica de que cada interpretació necessitat un determinat context que aporti significat i sentit als productes. Mitjançant la definició d'un model d'anàlisi "pragmàtico-etnogràfic" i la seva aplicació al estudi del producte telèfon mòbil, aquest treball mostra com per comprendre el significat d'un producte, cal valorar les pràctiques i accions socials que els signifiquen: posar l'atenció en l'anàlisi de la significació generada per les relacions establertes pel binomi producte i usuari. / The intention of this thesis is to demonstrate that the product is a medium of social communications which people use to communicate -as a function of its symbolic character- which allows human interaction between social, cultural and personal realms. The thesis explains the role that products play in social communication. The thesis shows the fact that social practices provide meaning and sense in the materialistic culture, from the pragmatic proposition that each interpretation needs a certain context which contributes significance and sense to the products. By means of the definition of the analytical model "pragmatic-ethnography" and its application to the study of the mobile telephone, this work confirms that in order to realize the significance of a product one has to evaluate the actions and social practices in which they matter: put the attention of the analysis to the significance generated by the relations established by the binominal product and user.
