Digital transformation in the distribution and exhibition channels of auteur cinema

Curi, Jimmy Trevejo, Casquino, Yasmin Sayán 01 January 2022 (has links)
Peruvian auteur cinema has faced problems of distribution and cinematographic exhibition in the windows of massive scope. Most of the exhibition windows have been monopolized by big Hollywood productions. Currently, the mandatory confinement due to COVID-19 has accelerated and materialized a digital transformation process that was under development. That is why the main objective of the research seeks to analyze how the digital transformation in the distribution and exhibition channels contributes to Peruvian auteur cinema. In order to carry out this objective, an interpretative research was conducted with a qualitative data methodology. The selected categories were: auteur cinema, digital transformation and distribution and exhibition channels. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with specialists in marketing and film production. In conclusion, from the perspective of the specialists, it is indicated that such transformation allows opening markets and serving audiences that were historically neglected before. Finally, there was a lack of specialization in the different areas of distribution and audience development, demonstrating the importance of the participation of professionals specialized in marketing to lead these processes. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

A Netflix Original Closed Captioning Study: How Netflix Closed Captions Make Audiovisual Content Accessible to Deaf Audiences

Gomizelj, Anna 21 December 2022 (has links)
Netflix is currently the world's largest subscription-based streaming platform, with 221.8 million subscribers worldwide (Maglio, 2022). Part of Netflix's enormous global appeal is its Netflix Original brand of films and TV shows - content it produces specifically for broadcast on its streaming platform. To make its content accessible to deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences, Netflix subcontracts the creation of closed captioning to vendors, instructing them to follow the Timed Text Style Guide (TTSG), which it makes freely available online. My study examines how closed captions for Netflix Original content endeavour to make audiovisual content accessible to deaf audiences, and I demonstrate how the platonic ideal of "equal access" is out of reach due to the limitations of timed text. The objective of my study is to highlight and critique the transformations of meaning that occur when captions translate sound and spoken dialogue into timed text. Drawing on D'Acci's circuit model of media studies (2004) my thesis links the sociohistorical conditions from which captioning techniques and technologies were developed, the conditions of caption production, and the way in which the needs of deaf audiences are articulated in the TTSG. I explore how these three forces affect the content of closed captions. To this end, I engage in a close reading of the TTSG and a selection of closed captions for Netflix Original series and films, borrowing from Berman's (2000) theories regarding the deforming tendencies of translation to describe the changes that result from the intralingual and intersemiotic translation involved in captioning (Jakobson, 2004). My study is informed and inspired by my personal experience as a professional captioner.

The visual expression in two music streaming services : A Semiotic Analysis of the Visual Expression of the Music Streaming Services Spotify and Apple Music

Centelege, Emma January 2022 (has links)
Since the development of modern technology, we are faced with more choices than ever. Our choices are based on the visual impression of a product or a service (Watzman, 1992). But what is it that makes us choose a specific product or service? This essay sheds light on the problems surrounding the development of technology that have led to a digitalized society where products are replaced by digital services. It also highlights a new professional role that has emerged from the digitalisation of society. Furthermore, the essay also enlightens on how a digital service's design might affect its users by examining how the music streaming services Spotify and Apple Music affect user's first impression of the service through a semiotic analysis. The results show that the design of a service is decisive for which target group the company is aimed at. And that the choice of functions maintains the interest of the users. In addition, the graphic design profession takes place through a development, where you may need to broaden your knowledge towards a digital competence. The essay opened up the question of whether there are more aspects that are based on the choice of service, such as the cost of the service and class differences.

Cáceres Carrera, Mario Gerardo, Mendoza Espinoza, Gabriela Jazmin 08 July 2021 (has links)
The present research aims to explain how the E-Service Quality and the intention of use that influence, as independent variables, the E-Satisfaction called dependent variable in streaming service platforms. With this, we seek to understand the customer satisfaction during the use of the service better. At the same time, the study will carry out an exhaustive investigation on the main characteristics of the variables involved, to be able to understand this procedure effectively. Therefore, the sampling will be non-probabilistic due to the infinite population of the present study and the parameters that can be established. The sample will come from men and women between the ages of 18 and 40 and who use the services of the streaming TV platforms frequently. Finally, in the statistical testing, multiple linear correlations and regressions will be applied in order to establish relationships between the analyzed variables. / Trabajo de investigación

Co-designing with neurodiverse population : Exploring how people with ADHD and dyslexia experience video streaming platforms

Santos, Thays January 2022 (has links)
Users are shifting from traditional TV to video streaming platforms because of the flexibility of using these media. However, most studies on accessibility in media streaming platforms explore physical impairments. Despite ADHD and dyslexia affecting around 5 and 10 percent of the population, studies combining the experience in streaming services and this neurodiverse group are still limited. This study aims to understand how people with ADHD and dyslexia experience video streaming platforms. The investigation involved recruiting people from this neurodiverse population who consume streaming and facilitate sessions with semi-structured interviews and co-design. The results show that the participants did not always show empowerment to express their needs. The study suggests an explanation of the topics that will be covered during the sessions to prepare the participant for the co-design. By doing so, the participants can reflect on their experiences beforehand. Similarly, sending them a summary of how the design methodology works might help participants understand the importance of the process, giving them more empowerment before the session starts. These suggestions can support future studies involving this neurodiverse group to be more inclusive.

The constant use of streaming platforms to access the most diverse content is a reality. Given this framework, we can also see these platforms assuming functions in this digital environment which were previously performed by traditional means of communication. One of these functions we can consider is music curatorship. The objective of this master's thesis is to propose an investigation and immersion in the musical streaming platform, Spotify, and to analyze how it operates to disseminate its musical contents, thus creating through its curatorial strategies a notion of a new cultural journalism. The bibliographies triggered include cultural convergence, cultural journalism, hypermedia radiojournalism and curation, as well as a questionnaire on habits of new patterns of music consumption followed by the respective analysis. Thus, this work seeks to contribute both to demystify the secondary role of cultural journalism in relation to other publications, and to understand the new possibilities of search and use of contents that are within our reach in the digital environment.

Dark Patterns i streamingtjänster : Undersöker manipulativ design i streamingtjänsternas användargränssnitt / Dark Patterns in Streaming Services : Studying manipulative design on streaming service's UI

Hallin Jacobsson, Wilmer January 2023 (has links)
What happens when a product or service impairs the consumer's well-being? And profits increase the more this happens? An ethical dilemma has arisen within digital platforms, including video streaming platforms (VSPs), because of this. A consistent trend for VSPs but also for e-commerce and smartphone apps has proven to be the use of manipulative design in user interfaces, so-called Dark Patterns. Within VSPs, the Autoplay feature and Recommendations have been cited as big reasons for consumers to keep watching. Ethical guidelines for UX designers (the ones who shape user interfaces) could be a possible way out of this, other possible measures are to create a legislation or add to the belief that consumers will opt out of those platforms that contain manipulative design. In order to investigate the awareness of-, ability to find- and influence gained despite awareness of- and ability to find dark patterns on VSPs, an online survey was applied (n=56). The result of the investigation shows that even if users are aware to a certain extent and have the ability to find some of the given patterns, these protective properties do not having a significant relationship with the respondent being able to avoid influence from the patterns.

Plataformas de streaming y las variables que influyen en la continuación del servicio / Streaming platforms and the variables that influence the continuation of the service

Durand Mejia , Jimena, Patiño Sierra, Lucero Melissa 02 March 2021 (has links)
This research seeks to explain how social influence, ease of use, perceived price, perceived value, and service satisfaction, called dependent variables, influence the intention to continue the service as an independent variable, in streaming platform services. So, we can understand the process that the consumer goes through when continuing to renew the monthly subscription. In addition, it seeks to focus on the main characteristics of the mentioned variables, in order to fully explain this process. For this research, a convenience sampling (not probabilistic) will be carried out through contacts of the researchers, who will receive the questionnaire through social networks and various digital media. The sample will be made up of men and women who are subscribed to streaming platforms such as: Netflix, Prime Video, Disney +, HBO Go, Spotify and Apple Music. Finally, the statistical technique that will be used will be the correlation and later the regression technique will be used to establish relationships between the variables studied. / Trabajo de investigación
