Beatrijs' biecht - stilistisch en semiotisch onderzoek

Draux, Roland 20 March 2006 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to determine whether the second part of the Middle-Dutch legend Beatrijs (vv. 865-1038) is original. In the final sequences, the author highlights the role of confession in the absolution of sins. In the first part of our work, we carried out a stylistic analysis of the whole legend that rested on quantifiable parameters. As no significant differences could be observed between the two parts, the stylistic homogeneity seemed obvious. In the second part of our research, the emphasis was laid on the narrative structural approach. On the basis of the theories of semioticians (Propp, Greimas, Courtès and Dundes), we could analyse the legend as a bimotifemic « complex tale » in which the success of the first quest in the first part (return to the heterotopic point of departure) must be considered the first stage in the expiation. The second quest in the second part (return to the original purity) can only be achieved through confession. This physical and spiritual movement ensures absolution and salvation : for that reason we can assert that the confession process is an integral part of the medieval legend as a whole.

Au théâtre des pensées. Essais de Péguy, Valéry, Artaud et Michaux / The Essays of Péguy, Valéry, Artaud and Michaux : a theatre of the mind

Gouttefangeas, Maud 11 February 2012 (has links)
There is such a thing as a theatre of the mind, a space for creation and play, in which the process of thinking is revealed. Péguy, Valéry, Artaud and Michaud have all experienced this in their essays. Beyond the differences that distinguish their works, their thinking processes are remarkable as they seek to reveal themselves through a model that finds its origin at the intersection of three forms of theatre. The first is the actual theatre of the early 20th Century, in which many experiments occur in the art of mise en scène. The stages and artistic settings in which these four authors evolve are vessels for the transmission of new and modern forms of theatricality ; they present the authors with new possibilities as far as performance is concerned, possibilities from which their minds take inspiration. On this inner stage of the mind, a second form of theatre unfolds to which various paths – mystical, poetic (Baudelaire and Mallarmé) and philosophical (Freud and Bergson) – give access. A third type of theatre can then be found in the four authors’ works, through the various shapes and values of essayistic writing. The genre’s genealogy, from Montaigne to Nietzsche, reveals, at its very core, an interaction between dramatizations of the mind and the text. In other words, a theatrical poietic emerges, which the four authors employ. The dramatized thoughts, calling on devices and mechanisms reminiscent of those being invented on modern stages, are put into place and pushed into movement, given a voice. The texts seek to show this theatre of the mind in which actions, costumes, décor, lighting, chorus, etc., intertwine, forming meaningful compositions

Epistolae duorum amantium - překlad a komentář souboru korespondence připisované Abélardovi a Heloise s úvodní studií / Epistolae duorum amantium - translation and commentary of the corpus of correspondence attributed to Abelard and Heloise with an introductory essay

Daňhelová, Jana January 2013 (has links)
The topic of this dissertation is a Medieval collection of 116 love letters (and fragments thereof), composed in all likelihood in the 12th century and commonly known today as "Epistulae duorum amantium". The only extant copy, penned by the Librarian of Clairvaux Abbey, comes from the latter half of the 15th century. The manuscript was discovered no sooner than in the 1970s and has been a subject of many questions ever since: It is not clear who the author of the original is or if the scribe copied a collection of genuine intimate correspondence or a work of rhetorical fiction (of the "ars dictaminis" genre). Nevertheless, certain aspects of the narrative and the relationship between the two lovers as depicted in the texts make some contemporary Medieval scholars believe that the collection might be an authentic record of the correspondence between the influential French theologian Abélard and his student Heloïse, written during the period of their mutual intensive romantic attachment. The aim of this dissertation is to present a complete Czech translation of the collection, accompanied by commentary and, using relevant works of secondary literature, to assess the current stage of research regarding the authenticity of the correspondence and its authorship.

Uma Amazônia poetizada: criações e inovações lexicais na obra de João de Jesus Paes Loureiro / A poetic Amazon: lexical creations and innovations in João de Jesus Paes Loureiro\'s poetry

Ferreira, Raphael Bessa 25 July 2018 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to study the neological creations of a semantic field related to the Amazonian context present in the poetry of João de Jesus Paes Loureiro, whose poetic thought dialogues with the myths, beliefs and the native imaginary of that region. Through his style, the author seeks to express a differentiated relationship with the Portuguese language, using neologisms that mark a geographical and cultural location, seeking to subvert the language in a work of craftsmanship that seeks the renewal of the word, transmuting it of its daily use to acquire varied semantic loads, poetizing what the author calls \"mundamazônico\". From the dialogue between the theories of lexical stylistics and formal poetics, in addition to the aesthetic thought of the author himself in his essays, the research collects the lexical inventions of the Amazonian context distributed throughout the literary production of Paes Loureiro, creations that raise questions about the modernization and financial exploration of northern Brazil. The collection of the corpus, therefore, is not intended to be extensive. We seek to analyze only the neologisms that express intimate questions about amazonicity and the regional aspect. The research also seeks to verify how the author\'s style develops a \"river language\", a revealing word for the work of poetry while \"enchanting the language\", as the author points out. The books analyzed for the research were Porantim; Deslendário; Altar em Chamas; Para ler como quem anda nas ruas; As Encantarias; Artesão das águas; O ser aberto; A loba; Cinco palavras à Virgem de Nazaré; Pentacantos; Epístolas e Baladas; Cantigas de Amar e de Amor; e Tarefa all included in volumes I and II of the Obras Reunidas e Água de Fonte, Romanceiro do Quem são eles e Iluminação/Iluminuras, in order to trace the expressive profile that such creations have in order to compose the style of the author.

As muitas faces de uma pedra: o universo lexical da obra em prosa de Ariano Suassuna / The many sides of a stone: the lexical universe of the prose works by Ariano Suassuna

Carvalho, Solange Peixe Pinheiro de 30 November 2011 (has links)
Stylistics studies, included in the field of research related to the Portuguese language, aim at verifying how the choice of lexicon and literary neologisms can affect readers of literature. Among other authors, Alves (1990), Barbosa (1981), Lapa (1977), Mattoso Câmara Jr. (1985), and Martins (2000) studied this subject, highlighting the importance of lexical creation in connection with the expressiveness and creativity of many Brazilian writers. Bearing in mind the relevance of research in this field, we have chosen as corpus for our study the only prose works by playwright Ariano Suassuna, Romance d\'A Pedra do Reino and História d\'O Rei Degolado, characterised by the significant amount of lexical creation, which not only conveys to the reader the worldview of their narrator, Dom Pedro Dinis Ferreira-Quaderna, but also confer the text great originality, tending either to the subversion or validation of the literary genres which inspired Suassuna to create his works, especially chivalric romance and cordel literature. We have also verified how, through careful lexical manipulation strategies, Quaderna attempts to entice his readers by showing a single worldview, and trying to impose Brazilian cultural values that he deems to be important. From the identification and collection of neologisms created by Suassuna, the main objective of this study is to present a sample of syntagmatic and semantic neologisms found in both works, taking into consideration aspects such as the affectivity of words and the expressiveness of suffixes; thus highlighting how effectively Suassuna creates and uses classical and popular elements the basis of his cultural thinking.

Matthew Arnold’s epics:towards a communicative approach

Alarauhio, J.-P. (Juha-Pekka) 21 January 2019 (has links)
Abstract This thesis is, on the one hand, an investigation into Matthew Arnold’s (1822–1888) literary communications and, on the other hand, an attempt to mediate between his writings and a twenty-first century readership. Arnold’s oeuvre is substantial and varied, but this study focuses on his epic poetry, which has remained a neglected part of his body of work despite its significance both to the author himself and to developing an understanding of Arnold’s development as a poet, cultural critic, and iconic ‘Victorian sage’. Furthermore, it is his epic poetry that seems to most fully address the theme of communication, and thus these longer poems function as points of orientation for a broader inquiry into Arnold’s communications. Arnold himself was keenly aware of the complicated status of communicative acts, but these complications have not always been acknowledged by the generations of criticism that have emerged since his death. Critics have thus produced images of Arnold which have not always done justice to the complexity of his communications. Based on an understanding of ‘communicative’ as a position of mediation between writers and readers, this thesis addresses the need for a more balanced communicative framework for mediating between Arnold’s writings in general — and his epic poetry in particular — his critics, and present audiences. / Original papers The original publications are not included in the electronic version of the dissertation. Lisboa menina e moça: a personificação da cidade nas letras de fado / Lisbon as a girl and young woman: personification of the city in the lyrics of fado

Casarini, Marcelo 23 April 2012 (has links)
Based on the lyrics of fado for which there has been no previous research or collection into one study this thesis seeks to show how the city of Lisbon is seen and represented by its inhabitants. The analysis of a corpus of 183 songs that sing the city as such (and not elements of it: the castle, the Tagus, neighborhoods, roofs, characters), shows that Lisbon is most of the time portrayed as a woman. Subsequently, the present study interprets, using the \"philological circle\" proposed by Leo Spitzer as a method, the phenomenon of personification of Lisbon in fado, first by a diachronic perspective and then synchronically. Finally, it investigates what kind of woman Lisbon is, and its relationship with the female street vendors (varinas, saloias, minhotas) and harlots who historically inhabited the city\'s streets but today are present only in the imagination of its people. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between the Lisbon-woman and the myth of Maria Severa.

Imagens, reverberações na poesia de Alberto da Cunha Melo: uma leitura estilística / The reverberation of image in Alberto da Cunha Melo\' s poetry: a stylistic approach

Moliterno, Isabel de Andrade 21 February 2008 (has links)
This research of the style of the Brazilian poet Alberto da Cunha Melo is based on the stylistic methodology and aims at contributing with the studies of this author, as well as giving descriptive information about some expressive uses of the Portuguese language. Firstly, I discuss some theoretical and methodological questions related to my kind of reading, such as image, text, style, form and sense. Secondly, I offer a panoramical approach of the author\'s style, focusing some stylistic recourses in texts selected to represent the whole poetry, which was developed throughout more than four decades. Although, in this second moment, I intend to present an overview of Alberto da Cunha Melo\'s work, the stylistic reading (on account of its interest in observing how form and content are associated) always tend to focus the details. Thirdly, I analyse more accurately four poems, each one from a different phase of production. His poetry can be divided in four different periods, concerning the techniques applied to the form. In a final chapter, I register the main stylistic characteristics of this writer. Even though I consider different aspects of the use of language, regarding how the meaning effects are obtained, I devote special attention to a technique taken as one of the most significant of his style: the reverberation of image, produced by the repetition of sounds, words, syntactic structures or ideas, creating the effect of concision and emphasis.
