Limane, Abdelhakim January 2017 (has links)
Abstract : The swimming pool is one of the most popular public establishments in our society and is not just a place for physical activities but also a space for relaxation, play, education and family ties. It is therefore important to ensure a healthy and comfortable indoor environment for the occupants. However, given the size, energy requirement and complexity of the physical phenomena that take place within such space, it is difficult to achieve an optimum balance between interior air quality, thermal comfort of occupants and energy efficiency of the building. This requires a description of the mechanisms, which determine the structure of the airflow by a profound analysis of these phenomena, which are the origin of the heat and mass transfers involved inside such spaces. The objective of this thesis is to present a numerical thermo-ventilation study using CFD (computational fluid dynamic) in stationary and transient regime that allows to evaluate the dynamic, thermal and thermodynamic behaviors of the various phenomena that take place inside the semi-Olympic closed swimming pool at Bishop's University (Sherbrooke, Qc, Canada). The aim is to improve the indoor air quality and thermal comfort of occupants as well as its energy efficiency. The simulations are carried out using OpenFOAM (Open Field Operation and Manipulation) using a Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) approach. To do this, a CFD thermo-ventilation study was first carried out on a rectangular cavity with heated floor in order to understand the thermo-ventilation simulations. This has led to the determination of the best ventilation configuration for optimum air quality and thermal comfort. Several CFD simulations of the three-dimensional airflow with heat and mass transfer were also carried out later for the indoor swimming pool to evaluate the effects of outdoor climatic conditions and swimmers on the indoor atmosphere of the pool. By adopting several RANS turbulence models, the comparison of the results obtained with the experimental data allowed to validate the OpenFOAM code. The experimental data were collected in the pool at Bishop's University using a device designed and adapted to the pool’s internal conditions. The devise is equipped with several sensors to measure temperature, relative humidity and velocity. Finally, a thermo-ventilation study of the swimming pool in transient turbulent regime for a duration of 24 hours for typical days of summer and winter was conducted in order to predict the distribution of the various parameters such as velocity, temperature and relative humidity. A statistical analysis showed that the external climatic conditions have no effect on the internal environment of the swimming pool. Moreover, its good thermal insulation demonstrated by a detailed calculation of the thermal losses through building envelope confirms this observation. On the other hand, the evaluation of the indoor air quality and the thermal comfort of occupants revealed that the conditions inside the pool are unacceptable. After which, an adjustment of the air conditioning parameters was made for improvements.

Aquapark Brno / Water park Brno

Brázdová, Zuzana January 2018 (has links)
The subject matter of the assigned project is Aquapark Brno – located near Lužánky. The subject is an architectural study elaboration of an aquapark adjoining the current swimming pool building which was established in 1979. This building facility is used primarily by professional swimmers and sportsmen for it contains the only 50 meters long swimming pool with a tribune in Brno. The aim of the project is to create new areas and pools for visitors with recreational intentions and therefore to widen the possibilities for free time activities. The project also deals with restoration of a 16 meters long training pool in the existing building, creation of inner and outer aquapark areas and adding exercise and dance halls as an extension to the existing fitness center. Another goal of this project was to make the pedestrian access to the area more pleasant which is achieved by creating an underground parking space in the area of the existing building’s frontal space and also by designing a footpath leading from the remote side of the excessively frequented Sportovní street. The primary aim of the project is an operational connection of the existing and the new building by a central building and also preventing an eclipse of the area by integrating the building in the area’s hillside. The advantage of the project is the presence of relaxation facilities and sports areas. The project completes the sporting environment of the area which makes it an attractive locality for a family recreation.

Problem i högt fuktbelastade byggnader : Riskbedömning med hjälp av WUFI / Problems in buildings with high moisture load : Risk assessment using WUFI

Wong, Katilla, Bergh, David January 2012 (has links)
Many of Sweden's public indoor swimming pools built in the late 1900’s are beginning to show signs of excessive moisture damage due to extreme indoor climate. This report explains the general problem of high moisture-loaded buildings and involves the moisture-damaged public indoor swimming pool Aquarena in Katrineholm. Extreme care is required when assembling the moisture barrier in a structure, especially with high internal moisture content. Optimal placement of the moisture barrier in the warmer parts of the construction means that moisture is never allowed to condense, thus minimizing the risk of moisture damage and negative consequences. Reality also shows that if risks of moisture and moisture damages are assessed early in the planning process, amounts in the range of hundreds of thousands of Swedish crowns can be saved. Calculations of moisture transport have been made for the previous exterior wall structure (the one that suffered damage) and new exterior wall structure the (new design for the reconstruction) using the computer program WUFI Pro 4.2 and analyzed in WUFI Bio 3.0. Calculations show that the old exterior wall structure in Aquarena would have been able to withstand moisture damage and damages due to moisture if joints and transitions in the moisture barrier had been correctly performed.  Calculations have not proven that all elements of the newly built wall design will work perfectly. The main reason for uncertainty in calculations when using WUFI is that the calculation model is not fully developed. Uncertainty is also due to insufficient knowledge of properties of the simulated materials. However, calculations show unambiguously better results than the previous wall construction. It is therefore necessary to further investigate what values of humidity and temperature will exist over the next few years to be able to later on correct the calculation model after reality.

Future teaching room for school swimming : How can we improve the experience of swimming lessons for school classes in primary schools?

Yue Thomessen, Linn January 2022 (has links)
Sweden is a country surrounded by water and sea, where we have a strong tradition of water activities and thus also compulsory swimming lessons. According to a follow-up by the school board, seven percent of students in grade 6 cannot swim 200 meters. This means that approximately 8,300 students who left middle school in June could not swim before the summer holidays. The total number of people in who cannot swim in the society is an even higher number and a serious problem. It is time to highlight the issue of swimming skills and primary school swimming lessons.Swimming teachers and school teachers state that it is difficult to conduct swimming lessons for several reasons. There is lack of nearby swimming pools, time, place, finances, well-being and safety, to name a few. Discoveries about how the environment of the swimming pool speaks against elements of swimming lessons for both teachers and schoolchildren is a newer problem, which must be investigated in order to facilitate the work process of swimming teachers and increase participation and the ability to learn how to swim. How can we improve the experience of swimming lessons for larger school classes in primary schools? This degree work is in collaboration with school teachers, swimming teachers and the Swedish Life Safety Society, to explore and define the challenges and propose design solutions. The implementation consists of design methods in the form of research and interviews in the design process including idea generation, workshops, evaluation and several other methods.Three design proposals were evaluated, leading to a final holistic concept of a future swimming lesson facility and pool that is smaller, closer to residential areas and schools, adaptable to different swimming levels and activities, and promotes safety and well-being. The room includes a system for a semi-transparent drapery screening, to reduce distractions and divide different swimming activities that are going on at the same time. The environment is designed in colors and shapes that create clarity in the room movement flow and experience of spatiality. The dimensions could work within the building framework for a swimming pool and be implementable both in existing sports facility and future smaller facility.
