Saghir, Adnan 12 November 2013 (has links) (PDF)

Modelling tools for quieter vehicles : Waves in poro-and visco-elastic continua

Ostberg, Martin 07 June 2012 (has links) (PDF)
New modelling tools intended to contribute to the development of components for quieter vehicles are developed. The tools are based on continuum models for wave propagation in poro- and visco-elastic media. By using geometric attributes of the studied components, the computational cost may be radically decreased compared to traditional methods. By assigning known analytical functions for one or two of the spatial directions, the spatial dimension of the remaining numerical problem is reduced. This reduction of spatial dimensions is performed in two di↵erent ways. The first one treats wave propagation in infinitely extended homogeneous and hollowed cylindrical rods, or wave guides, consisting of visco-elastic media. The wave solutions obtained are then used to model rubber vibration isolators of finite length by mode-matching the fields to the radial boundary conditions of interest. The second one is a method for modelling rotationally symmetric multilayered structures consisting of poro-elastic, elastic and fluid domains. By using a harmonic expansion for the azimuthal spatial dependence, the original three-dimensional problem is split up into several, much smaller, two- dimensional ones, radically decreasing the computational load. Moreover, using a mixed measurement/modelling approach, the audible frequency range characteristics of a viscous damper from a truck is studied, illustrating the influence of the rubber bushings by which it is attached to surrounding structures. The modelling approaches presented in this thesis are intended as tools aiding the design process of new vehicles, enabling new technology striving for more sustainable vehicle concepts. More specifically, the tools aim to improve the modelling of sound and vibration properties which are often penalised when seeking new, more sustainable vehicle designs.

Nevalstybinių ugdymo įstaigų kūrimo ir veiklos Lietuvoje galimybės bei problemos / Possibilities and problems related to the foundation of independent educational institutions in Lithuania and the operational peculiarities of such institutions

Karvelienė, Živilė 07 July 2010 (has links)
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Although preschool education is not a new phenomenon, we are observing private sector to emerge into our lives, i.e. private educational institutions, which receive payment for the quality of services, creativity and prestige. Although a wider variety of institutions which render educational services is much wanted and welcomed, establishing an independent educational institution is not an easy task. In our country, the inducement to found private kindergartens is not included among any priorities, although financial support for non-formal education is available. The financing, however, is very limited and lack of financial resources is constantly felt. The state does not attempt to create such an economic system that would encourage the foundation of private sector in education, which would solve the important problem of all the bigger cities of Lithuania, namely, the lack of kindergartens. Therefore, we will consider the foundation of an independent educational institution as an alternative to the traditional institution of preschool education. Problem: no information on the foundation of independent educational institutions in Lithuania is available whatsoever, no legal basis for that has been created, the enterprise of the educationalists is insufficient, the educational system does not finance the establishment of private kindergartens, there are no methodical guidelines for the independent education service providers, and intricate sanitary requirements are also an... Numerical Model of a Tensioner System and Flex Joint

Huang, Han 16 December 2013 (has links)
Top Tensioned Riser (TTR) and Steel Catenary Riser (SCR) are often used in a floating oil/gas production system deployed in deep water for oil transport. This study focuses on the improvements to the existing numerical code, known as CABLE3D, to allow for static and dynamic simulation of a TTR connected to a floating structure through a tensioner system or buoyancy can, and a SCR connected to a floating structure through a flex joint. A tensioner system usually consists of three to four cylindrical tensioners. Although the stiffness of individual tensioner is assumed to be linear, the resultant stiffness of a tensioner system may be nonlinear. The vertical friction at a riser guide is neglected assuming a roller is installed there. Near the water surface, a TTR is forced to move due to the motion of the upper deck of a floating structure as well as related riser guides. Using the up-dated CABLE3D, the dynamic simulation of TTRs will be made to reveal their motion, tension, and bending moment, which is important for the design. A flex joint is approximated by a rotational spring with linear stiffness, which is used as a connection between a SCR and a floating structure or a connection between a TTR and the sea floor. The improved CABLE3D will be integrated into a numerical code, known as COUPLE, for the simulation of the dynamic interaction among the hull of a floating structure, such as SPAR or TLP, its mooring system and riser system under the impact of wind, current and waves. To demonstrate the application of the improved CABLE3D and its integration with COUPLE, the related simulation is made for ‘Constitution’ SPAR under the met-ocean conditions of hurricane ‘Ike’. The mooring system of the Spar consists of nine mooring lines and the riser system consists of six TTRs and two SCRs.

Onatli, Héja January 2013 (has links)
Children of school age, who have just moved to Sweden can either start in a preparation class or in a normal class. There is no Swedish law or national policy that determines how new children will start and continue their education in Swedish schools. The decision is up to the schools or the communes. This study investigates what kind of educational methods teachers, from a sample of two different schools, are using to educate the newly-arrived students and if these methods are making any contribution to integrating these children into the Swedish school system. The study will raise questions like, how are the new students introduced to the Swedish school, what is the purpose of having the children in preparation class as opposed to normal class, and what methods do the interviewed teachers use to integrate the new children into the school system? Interviews were conducted with four teachers, an associate professor and a senior lecturer in education, who has done several years of research about children from abroad coming in to the Swedish school system. The primary theoretical frames in this study were the sociocultural perspective, language socialization, integration and inclusion. The results show that by not having a comprehensive policy for the newly arrived students, each teacher has a different educational method and the schools are not given enough recourses to help the student succeed. One of the conclusions is that to have a good integration of new students, the schools need to find a reception method that works for each new student based on a comprehensive policy.

Evaluation of the Accuracy of NaviDent, a Novel Dynamic Computer-guided Navigation System for Placing Dental Implants

Somogyi-Ganss, Eszter 28 November 2013 (has links)
Objectives: To evaluate and compare an experimental surgical navigation system (ESNS) in implant placement accuracy to static planning and transfer systems. Material and Methods: Partially edentulous, surgical typodonts were used to simulate prosthetically-driven osteotomies in preclinical setting. After cbCT acquisition the DICOM files were used to reverse plan and fabricate surgical guides. Manual placement, three static guiding systems and ESNS were compared. Eight osteotomies per jaw were transferred to 10 typodonts in five series, resulting in 400 osteotomies by 3 operators, each modality. Lateral, vertical, total and angular deviations were measured and compared. Results: Computer-assisted systems were comparable and provided superior precision laterally and in angulation, but not vertically; implants placed in free-end positions were less accurate. Conclusions: All computer-aided methods showed less than 2 mm or 5 degrees error on average, which needs to be considered in clinical practice.

A PERFORMANCE GUIDE TO GABRIEL FAURÉ’S <em>LA CHANSON D’ÈVE</em>, OP. 95

Klopfenstine-Wear, Sarah E 01 January 2014 (has links)
In this study, background information, International Phonetic Alphabet pronunciations, poetic translations, and musical analyses of the ten songs that comprise Gabriel Fauré’s La Chanson d’Ève, Op. 95 are provided. Included is the relationship between his original poetry and Fauré’s resultant song cycle. Additionally, a portion is dedicated to an overview of the registers of the mezzo-soprano voice, and it specifically addresses who is best suited to perform La Chanson d’Ève. This document looks at the vocal challenges presented for the mezzo-soprano voice within each song, particularly the subject of vowel modification as it relates to the IPA pronunciation guide. Finally, by gathering all the pertinent information on Fauré’s La Chanson d’Ève into one document, this performance guide creates a succinct tool for singers and teachers in the vocal studio.
