Miljöledning i produktutveckling : En studie i ISO 14001-certifierade företags produktutvecklingsprocesserNordström, Louise, Frost, Sandra January 2013 (has links)
Background: To facilitate environmental responsibility among organisations, standards with the purpose to provide support in the implementation of environmental management systems have been introduced. A widely used tool is the ISO 14001-standard which highlights continual improvements in relation to the environmental goals of the specific organisation. Due to the generic design of the standard it is up to the organisation to implement it in a way that is most appropriate. Research shows that ISO 14001 makes a difference when it comes to the engagement for the environment of producing companies. However, scholars stress that the standard is not sufficient regarding commercial products, but also highlights findings which suggest that companies that have been ISO 14001-certified during a longer period of time in a greater extent have conducted systems that manage these aspects. Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate how environmental responsibility is designed and implemented in the product development of ISO 14001-certified companies since one due to previous research can assume that this implies individual variances of the specific organization. Method: Case studies of four Swedish companies have been conducted in order to fulfill the aim of the study. These companies have been represented by individuals that possess positions concerning environmental aspects in the product development process. Additionally the study has been based on secondary sources. Theories: Research regarding environmental management systems, ISO 14001 and eco-design together with translation theory according to Røvik. Conclusion: The study shows that companies have developed systems regarding implementation of environmental aspects in their product development. These aspects derive from routines based on environmental goals formulated according to ISO 14001. Further, employees connected to the product development are educated in environmental aspects and the environmental impact of the individual company which accordingly affects the product development processes.

Är diversifiering ett översättningsproblem? : Hur lean översätts till en tjänstorganisations olika kontexter / Is Diversification a Problem for Translation? : How lean is translated to the different contexts of a service organisationBrodacki, Marcus, Jirskog, Hanna January 2018 (has links)
Background: Management concepts, such as lean, need adjustment to fit the unique circumstances of a certain organisation. Translation is a method of adapting management concepts between different contexts but research on the subject has mainly focused on the translation to a single context. The implications that diversification has for the translation to a certain organisation are largely overlooked. It is therefore relevant to study how diversification affects translation and if it can be a reason for the large number of failures in the implementation, and translation, of management concepts. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to increase the understanding of the translation that takes place when a diversified service organisation implements lean. To fulfill the purpose we have studied what translation competence that is experienced to be important in the organisation when lean is implemented in a diversified service organisation and how the competence is adapted to the different contexts within the organisation. Furthermore, we have studied which translation types that are used when lean is implemented and how they are adapted to the different contexts of a diversified service organisation. Method: This is a qualitative case study with phenomenological perspective that puts emphasis on hermeneutic context. Semi-structured interviews and document studies provided the empirical material for the study. The empirical material is presented in themes in a narrative way. Conclusion: Diversification per se does not have to imply any difficulties if the translation, in terms of translation type and -competence, is controlled by demand. Transverse processes on the other hand needs to be focused and a holistic approach and a consistency in how lean is used and applied is necessary to make them work in an optimal and customer driven way.

La traducción de los culturemas : Dificultades y soluciones en la traducción del sueco al español del estudio: "La imagen de Suecia en los medios de comunicación después de Stieg Larsson y Millennium" / Translation of culturemes : Difficulties and solutions in the translation from Swedish to Spanish of the study: "Sweden beyond the Millennium and Stieg Larsson"Björklund, Rosario January 2015 (has links)
Translation is all about finding the similar word and expression in the target language ́s culture and to try to obtain the same message as the source text. What a translator does with a translation project from the source language to the target language includes a process where several elements interact: finding the correct terminology in the target culture and be able to transfer the connotation and the message to the reader in the target language. The aim of this investigation is to identify and analyze the difficulties that may appear in the process of translating cultural aspects between Swedish and Spanish. The source text is a Swedish study Mediebilden av Sverige efter Stieg Larsson och Millennium (Sweden beyond the Millennium and Stieg Larsson) by Joakim Lind (2012) that has been translated into Spanish. The purpose of this study is to investigate if the translation techniques neutralization and the cultural equivalent are most suitable to use in the translation of cultural elements. The results of the study showed what was expected from the beginning, that it was mostly these two translation techniques that were used: neutralization and the cultural equivalent, but in several cases it was necessary to use other techniques like literal translation. The process of translation cannot only depend on one or two translation techniques and the translator must be able to recognize when the appropriate technique should be used. In several cases it has to be a combination of two or three translation techniques to be able to reach a good final result of the translated text.

Subtitling the Internet : An investigation into subtitles for dynamic media / Undertexter på Internet : En undersökning av undertexter för dynamisk mediaDankis, Sofia January 2014 (has links)
This thesis will examine interlingual subtitles for online media. The research takes place within the descriptive translation studies paradigm. The source material consists of subtitles for a selection of webcasts found on the video sharing platform YouTube. The analysis will examine how the original dialogue has been translated as well as the form that the subtitles are presented in. An analysis of norm governed subtitles for television programs that follow established subtitling norms will also be made for comparison. Online media and broadcast media are divided into a dynamic and static category respectively in order to treat webcasts as an individual form of media. Dynamic media is defined as digital media created for the Internet, and static media is defined as media created for televised broadcasts. The results do not include qualitative assessments but have shown that subtitles for webcasts do not follow subtitling norms and display a wide range of unconventional approaches. The determining factor that illustrates the nature of webcast subtitles is attributed the diverse group of people writing them.

Organizational Crisis Communication Translated in the Networked SocietyMcIntosh, Heather 15 May 2018 (has links)
Between approximately September 1, 2012 and February 1, 2014, the popular Canadian fashion retailer Lululemon Athletica Inc. faced an organizational crisis due to quality management problems. Beginning with manufacturing complications, the quality issues expressed themselves through various crisis symptoms (e.g., financial issues, legal issues, and senior leadership turmoil). The organization enacted crisis communication strategies to mitigate reputational risk and to inform the public and its stakeholders about the crisis. The news media also reported on the crisis extensively, which contributed to the public and stakeholders’ perceptions of the company and crisis. This dissertation draws on theories of narrative, translation, communication and media, and crisis communication to develop a theoretical foundation to guide the goals of this study. It is based on theories that conceptualize textual journalism as a process of both intralingual and interdiscursive translation that results in new narratives for the purpose of news media content creation. A qualitative content analysis informed by principles of critical discourse analysis is conducted to examine the narration of the crisis as depicted in the company’s textual communication about the crisis (e.g., press releases, annual reports), and the depiction of the crisis as narrated in textual media reports about the organization’s crisis. The two information streams are first analyzed individually to extract the main themes and sub-themes presented. Based on these analyses, a comparison of the two different information streams and their respective crisis narratives is conducted. The project investigates the ways in which the media translated information about the crisis to create their own narratives of the crisis. The findings of this dissertation show the process through which translation occurs, namely the linguistic and discursive variance between these two information streams. An analysis of the patterns in the linguistic and discursive variance between these two information streams indicates how the different social contexts in which each information stream is embedded may have impacted how the translation/journalism process occurs.

Translation: Rights and Agency - A Public Policy Perspective for Knowledge, Technology and GlobalizationSadek, Gaafar 04 April 2018 (has links)
Copyright law relegates translation to a secondary, or derivative, status, which means that publishing a translation requires the permission of the rights holder of the original. This thesis argues for the timeliness of revisiting the translation right by analyzing its foundations and its implications from a transdisciplinary public policy perspective. This is done by first studying the historical and philosophical foundations of copyright law itself where the translation right is housed, revealing questionable philosophical arguments and a colonial past that has created legal path dependencies.
The thesis then undertakes an examination of the foundations of the translation right specifically, dubbed “the international issue par excellence,” which confirms the same pattern observed in the development of copyright law. Given the complete absence of the translator’s perspective from all international discussions on the translation right, copyright’s view of translation is then contrasted with recent scholarship in translation theory, with a special focus on the notion of agency(-ies), exposing the incompatibility of these views on translation, and highlighting the importance of including the perspective of translation studies in policies and laws related to translation.
The last part of the thesis explores the present-day realities of knowledge societies, digital technologies, and globalization, in order to identify the role of translation today and in the future, while highlighting the tremendous gaps between the have’s and the have-not’s, and the necessity of recognizing the specificities of different societies. Knowledge is the new capital of the world, and the translation right is an impediment to the key role translation can potentially play in allowing societies to participate in the cycle of its consumption and regeneration. Digital technologies are powerful enablers that have allowed those who have leveraged and embraced them, such as the open movement and prosumers of all types, to transform the nature of their interactions with their environment macro- and microstructurally. This has also been reflected in the profession of translation, where collaborative projects are constantly initiated, while the nature of the translator’s work is changing to the point where one seriously doubts whether the provisions of the century-old translation right still apply to it. The discussion on globalization focuses on language in a globalized world, power relations between linguistic communities, and means of preserving linguistic diversity and heritage.
The translation right, with its questionable foundations and outdated nature, is an impediment to the potential role of translation (as representative of the public interest) in the world, and must be revisited and at least reduced to the point of constituting balanced public policy. Social development, power relations and the necessity of differentiation (or “otherness”) are running themes throughout the work, which tries to balance between theoretical discussions from various relevant disciplines and reliance on United Nations and other public policy research.

Překlad německého odborného textu ve vysokoškolské jazykové výuce / Translation of a German Professional Text Used at University Level Foreign Language TeachingMichňová, Iva January 2011 (has links)
Nowadays knowing professional language is an essential part of professional success and career growth for university graduates majoring in non-philological studies. The aim of this dissertation is to contribute to further enhancement and efficiency of foreign language teaching at university level. Based on the theoretical background and confirmation of hypotheses, the paper describes and explains why it is appropriate to include, in addition to training of basic language skills (passive: listening comprehension, reading comprehension, active: speaking and writing) an extra fifth skill: translating into the mother tongue. Undoubtedly, the translating skill helps to improve receptive and productive skills necessary for working with academic text and to facilitate better use of information sources; at the same time, this skill is desirable in corporate practice and in academia. This paper deals with methods of foreign language teaching from both diachronic and synchronous perspectives, with emphasis on the application of translation. It analyses the role of translation in teaching using a specific example; it provides analysis of professional style and some features of professional text; it justifies the importance of translation into the mother tongue; it deals with selected problems of the theory, practice and didactics of translation. The research part is based on quantitative and qualitative analysis of students' translations. It confirms the hypotheses that students have difficulty in translating into the mother tongue and in using various sources of information, and that guidance on how to proceed in translating has a positive influence on them. The research part is followed by some suggestions for specific methodologies and exercises that may be used to integrate translating into professional language teaching at university level, namely for graduates majoring in non-philological studies. The suggestions are based on the author's research results; naturally, they are focused on eliminating possible inaccuracies and mistakes, and also on developing desirable skills.

O rei Lear da estepe, de Ivan Turguêniev: uma tragédia russa / The King Lear of the steppes, by Ivan Turgenev: a russian tragedyJéssica de Souza Farjado 17 February 2016 (has links)
This research consist of a translation of Ivan Turgenevs novel The King Lear of the steppes, published in 1870, followed by a brief commentary on the influence of the English playwrighter William Shakespeare in Russian literature. Then there is a study of the literary skaz present in the novel and styling, a stylistic feature theorized by Mikhail Bakhtin and Yury Tynyanov. Like the parody, the styling is also a recreation of a consecrated work, but rather that it does not have comic effect, but agree with the text direction in which it was inspired. Finally, there is a note about the existence of elements of Russian folklore in the text and comments on the translation based on comparison with French, English and Portuguese versions.

Anpassningsbara managementkoncept från privat till offentlig sektor : Översättning av lean från idé till praktik i en statlig myndighetSaid, Pamela January 2020 (has links)
In the context of New Public Management, concepts such as lean have had a major impact among organizations in recent years with efficiency ideas based on customer focus. Moreover, the benefits of lean have served as solutions to the problems and challenges facing the public service. However, previous research is limited in public authority contexts to understand its applicability. The Swedish Social Insurance Agency is a public authority that started implementing lean in 2012 with the aim of streamlining its flow with continuous improvements based on customer value. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to examine how lean is expressed from idea to practice in two departments of the Swedish Social Insurance Agency as a public authority context. This, by illustrating the translation process of the management idea as a strategy based on a strategic and an operational department as an overall level and the everyday work within the core activity at the micro level. Thus, lean is a broad and flexible concept, but the focus of this thesis is on the concepts flow and value. Institutional theory and Scandinavian institutional theory, especially translation theory have been used to apply a model of decontextualization, translation arenas and contextualization, as well as central translators. This to understand how ideas are raised from a practice through various arenas and translated into another practice. To achieve the purpose of this thesis, a two-case study was conducted by the lean introduction of these two departments. Semi-structured interviews have been conducted with central managers and employees in the departments as well as with external consultants who have been involved in and influenced introduction of lean. This, in order to understand how the concepts have been translated from arenas and translators at two comparative levels. This thesis also contains internal documents and annual reports as well as observations that have been studied. Results presented in the paper contribute to existing research, with the translation of lean at the strategic and operational level within a public authority context. As such, the results indicate that translation is ongoing everywhere where a link between public and private activities is a way of how ideas are disseminated and translated. In addition, the introduction of lean in the departments had been introduced and tested to a minor extent at the strategic department before the introduction as a top-down process of the entire authority through informal relationships with Scania and Toyota. Analysis shows that the local translation process in both cases is an adaptation between lean and practice. Furthermore, lean did not change the everyday work completely, but was translated in a way that supported how the departments were organized before, rather than radically changing them. Additionally, the analysis shows that the translation of lean was affected by the private sector and other organizations in the area. The various arenas and translators play an important role in how lean is translated into practice. Adaptation to the organizational context is also important for the idea to be successful. However, the thesis shows that a formal actor is required to add energy to maintain the commitment with lean.
