Looking for Quantitative and Qualitative Measures of Teaching Interactions: A Preliminary Analysis

Weir, Jade R 05 1900 (has links)
Indicators of quality early intensive behavioral intervention (EIBI) include comprehensive interventions, adequately trained staff, high rates of effective instruction delivery, happy interactions between children and their teachers, and socially valid outcomes. When these are in place, high quality EIBI is more likely to increase progress that children with autism make during treatment. When not in place, progress is not as likely, as rapid, or as meaningful. To date, there is limited research regarding the correlation between these indicators of high-quality EIBI and the degree to which their effects are meaningful to direct consumers. The purpose of this methodological study was to compare direct, quantitative measures of teaching interactions (child initiations, teacher initiations, child affect, teacher affect) with qualitative measures (stakeholder ratings of teacher effectiveness, amount of opportunities for interaction and interest in the child) of teaching interactions to determine what sets the occasion for expert stakeholders to describe a teaching interaction as effective, quality therapy.

Gregory Research Beliefs Scale: Factor Structure and Psychometric Properties

Gregory, Virgil L., Jr 23 June 2009 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / GREGORY RESEARCH BELIEFS SCALE: FACTOR STRUCTURE AND PSYCHOMETRIC PROPERTIES The study at hand involves developing the Gregory Research Beliefs Scale (GRBS) to reliably and validly measure social work students’ beliefs about the function of research in social work practice. Research has considerable actual and potential benefits for practice. Social work students’ beliefs about this construct are vital. A description of the advantages of using research to inform practice is given. Additionally, the Council on Social Work Education and National Association of Social Workers’ policies that mandate the merger of research and practice are also provided to further justify the need for adequate psychometric evaluation of the construct. Details of the literature search strategy are described and critical evaluations of the empirical articles are conducted. Based on critical evaluations of instruments which have previously measured the same construct, a number of psychometric shortcomings are outlined to validate the need for further scale development of the construct. The present study’s objectives were to develop a scale which has an empirically and theoretically supported factor structure, acceptable coefficient alpha levels, empirically supported discriminant (divergent) validity, concurrent criterion validity, and known–groups criterion validity. Steps for developing the GRBS’s items, response format, sample, research design, and statistical tests are specified and conducted to determine the factor structure and psychometric properties. Finally, the strengths, limitations, and areas for future research are discussed.

Game theoretical characterization of the multi-agent network expansion game

Caye, Flore 04 1900 (has links)
In supply chains, manufacturers often use transportation companies to deliver their goods. This can lead to competition among carriers seeking to maximize their individual revenues by serving a manufacturer. In this work, we consider such situations where no single carrier can guarantee delivery from source to destination due to its operation in a restricted region (e.g., a province) or the available transportation fleet (e.g., only air transportation), to name a few examples. Therefore, competition is linked to the expansion of transportation capacity by carriers. The problem described above motivates the study of the multi-agent network expansion game played over a network owned by multiple transporters who choose their arcs’ capacity. Simultaneously, a customer seeks to maximize the flow that goes through the network by deciding the sharing policy rewarding each of the transporters. The goal is to determine a Nash equilibrium for the game, in simple words, the most rational capacity expansion and sharing policy for the transporters and the customer, respectively. We recap the arc-based formulation proposed in literature, whose solution is the Nash equilibirum with the largest flow, and we identify its limitations. Then, we formalize the concept of profitable increasing path and we show its use to establish necessary and sufficient conditions for a vector of strategies to be a Nash equilibrium. This lead us to the first path-based formulation. Finally, we propose a strengthening for the arc-based model and a hybrid arc-path formulation. Our experimental results support the value of the new valid inequalities obtained from our characterization of Nash equilibria with profitable increasing paths. We conclude this work with the future research directions paved by the contributions of this thesis.

Small a medium enterprise support programs and their applications to selected company.

NEJEDLÝ, Jiří January 2007 (has links)
The main aim of this work is to carry out analysis of programmes of direct support for small and middle-sized companies offered by the state, European Union and commercial sphere, also description of process of acquision of support in chosen company and evaluation of the benefits in factual company. To support small and middle-sized companies is sensible and pragmatic because this segment is an importand part of the development of national economy, increases employment, cocreates healthy business environment and therefore develops each village, town and region. The support is related to efficient and stable companies only. The operational programmes help small and middle-sized companies to dynamize their growth and development, they are not dedicated to saving companies with problems.

Afrikaans text / The Canadian and South African legal systems established equivalent constitutional values and principles pertaining to searches conducted with or without a valid search warrant. It creates the basis for a comparative study on this particular aspect. The Supreme Court of Canada held in R v A. M 2008 S.C.C 19 random sniffer dog searches conducted without neither a reasonable suspicion nor any legislative authority on learners enrolled in public schools, is unconstitutional due to its infringement of a learner's reasonable expectation to privacy, as protected in section 8 of the Canadian Charter of rights and Freedoms. South African learners are randomly search by law enforcement officers by using sniffer dogs for purposes of detecting the possession of illegal drugs in instances without neither a reasonable suspicion nor statutory authority. The search is subsequently conducted in terms of the common law. The common law is not regarded as law of general application to limit a fundamental right in terms of the limitation clause. By taking into consideration the ratio in R v A. M (supra) the conclusion is subsequently that random sniffer dog searches conducted on learners in South African public schools, without neither a reasonable suspicion nor statutory authority, is unconstitutional which infringes section 14 of the Constitution of South Africa of 1996. / Law (College) / LL.M.

Technik und Bildung in der verwissenschaftlichten Lebenswelt

Lumila, Minna 02 June 2023 (has links)
The study attempts to open Husserl's model of a non-scientific lifeworld for pedagogical investigations of the relationship between technology and “Bildung” in the scientific world. It discusses developmental problems of late modernity under plural questions and brings together approaches and traditions that have taken different paths to the further development of modern “Bildungs”-theory. The central question is how modern technology can be problematized on the one hand as the alienation of human beings from the world of life and on the other hand be appreciated as a product of human freedom and the shaping of the world. Four chapters present the methodological approaches and answers that philosopher and educator Eugen Fink (1905–1975), philosopher Martin Heidegger (1889–1976), philosopher and educationalist Theodor Litt (1880–1962), and sociologist Helmut Schelsky (1912–1984) have given to the question of the relationship between education and technology. In the course of their positions, a concert will be developed whose originality lies in addressing the coordination problems of “Bildung” (education), “Technik” (technology) and “Lebenswelt” (lifeworld) from a post-dualist, praxis-theoretical as well as post-humanist perspective.
