Eriksson, Mats January 1900 (has links)
This candidate thesis concerns the “all but forgotten” material from the bronze age site named “Raä 977, Hansbo 1:3, Vojmsjön, Vilhelmina”. During 1975-76, an archaeological dig was carried out by Västerbottens museum led by Ulla Walukiewich in an attempt to preserve the information the site held, before it was destroyed by the erosion brought on by the recently regulated sea “Vojm” (Vojmsjön). The archaeological dig yielded a stunning amount of finds, samples and information previously unknown. Amongst these finds where a large amount of quartzite scrapers, arrowheads and other stone tools, typologically dated to BC 1500- BC 1000. Two groups of three structures each, interpreted as “hearths” were also discovered. The dig was carried out in extreme detail for this time and provided 54 soil samples originally intended for phosphate analyses by “spot-tests” and coal samples for carbon dating. The site was documented in a grid of 33*33 cm and was dug in an artificial stratigraphy of 3cm layers. Because of these samples and the high resolution of the recorded data it is now possible with new technology and archaeological/environmental archaeological methods to extract even more information from this site, and that is what this paper intends to present. This new information that might be altering the interpretation of the site as a “settlement site” and hopefully shine light on the purpose of the site and to what extent the site have been utilized as well as the extent of the site itself. Hopefully this will enable a more accurate rendering of the activity’s preformed on site, and the lives of the people that once inhabited it, by comparing the result of the analysis presented below and previous research done in the area.

What do the elderly demand? A study of the living environment in Storuman-, Sorsele and Vilhelmina municipality

Scherbakova, Victoria January 2021 (has links)
In sparsely populated municipalities, there is a large increase of elderly people in relation to people of working age. This will entail a great need for housing for the elderly, and at the same time resources for the care of the elderly. The aim for this study is to examine how older people within Storuman-, Sorsele and Vilhelmina municipality perceive their current housing and other forms of housing for the future, and also to analyze how the housing demand is met now or in the plans for future development within the municipalities. Interviews have been conducted with both elderly but also with people who work with housing issues within the municipalities. There are incentives that the demand of shared housing will increase. The elderly feel a lack of meeting places and they prefer shared forms of housing over regular apartments. The municipalities have different challenges and different housing supply and therefore they have different approaches and plans to cope with the future housing demand for elderly.

A small municipality’s digital divide : A qualitative study of how Vilhelmina municipality can reach all residents.

Liljekvist, Hanna January 2014 (has links)
This surveys hypothesis is based on the notion that all citizens have the right to access information of the municipality they live in. The aim of the study is to examine how residents of Vilhelmina municipality take note of the current information, and also how they would proceed to access information in the future. In order to conceptualise the results these following theories were used: digital divide, digital immigrants, digital native, uses and gratification theory, social capital, communications strategies and two-way communication. The survey is conducted with four focus group interviews and one separate interview with a person working at the municipal office. The focus groups were divided into age categories in order to see the similarities and differences between the groups' media habits and preferences of future communications. The study material consists of the transcribed texts from the abovementioned interviews. The results of this research demonstrate that there is significant difference between age groups. According to the early theory of digital divide the gap in information between groups exists only due to the individual’s ability to access the Internet, which not match this study’s results. More current updates of the theory of digital divide declare that motivation may be a cause to the gap.  During the course of this research the issue of motivation emerged and a few of the interview participants stated motivation to find information as a key point. With the help of the participants requests communications strategies were presented for future communication based on the target groups' media choices.

Unknown Photographer? : An archive study of the life and photographic work by the Gotlandic photographer Laura Stenman during the turn of the twentieth century.

Gellerstedt, Kristina January 2019 (has links)
In this essay we follow a professional female photographer on the island of Gotland in Sweden around the turn of the twentieth century. The story of Laura Stenman’s life has for a long time been hidden, but through literature- and archival studies, her biographical story was pieced together and revealed during the winter of 2019. Through this essay her family life and photographic work has emerged. In parallel, a piece of the history of photography and the first photographers on Gotland are revealed.  The essay highlights the educational opportunities and advice available to those interested in photography at this time. It also describes the photographic studios that Laura Stenman and her second husband worked in. How the studio was planned and what inventories you would find in them. It also describes which assignments were the most common, which customers they had, how they communicated with the customers and how they found new ones. The economic conditions and aspects both for the photographer and the person to be portrayed, were of the utmost importance, and this is also being discussed. Some of the photographic pictures that Laura Stenman made were found and studied in detail in order to find patterns in her work. The essay also highlights how both the married and unmarried women were affected by changes in two big reforms in Sweden. First in 1846 when new opportunities arose for those who wanted to carry on activities in the craft profession, and second in 1864 when a business freedom regulation was introduced. Laura Stenman was married twice an both marriages changed her life and her history in different directions which is also being discussed throughout the essay.
