"I think it's more women on buses but I haven't thought about why" : A qualitative study of public transport and its relation to gender equality in Västerbotten County

Wigström, Josefine January 2017 (has links)
ABSTRACT As the population across the world steadily increases, we become more globalized and travel more extensively. This burdens the environment and causes a decrease in safety, and increases congestion and pollution in both rural and urban areas. It is therefore vital to reduce these impacts and thus encourage more sustainable transport solutions. Studies show that men in general travel less sustainably than women, as they use cars for transportation more often. Women, however, use public transport to a greater extent. To be able to encourage a modal shift towards sustainable alternatives – thus creating an attractive public transport system for both women and men – it is essential to understand the underlying causes for these differences in attitudes and travel behaviour between men and women. The purpose of this thesis is to examine gender equality in relation to public transport. More specifically, the thesis will investigate how focusing on gender issues is significant in order to create and develop a sustainable public transport system. The method for this thesis is based on interviews, in which both frequent and less frequent bus travellers have shared their current notions and perceptions on public transport. Part of the aim has been to identify any differences between men and women’s answers and the way they discuss these issues. Furthermore, thematic coding analysis was used to analyse the results that led to five different themes being identified as most frequently mentioned during the interviews. The results were subsequently put into context with related academic research concerning gender equality, mobility, transportation and sustainability. Conclusively, the results show that there are tendencies for gender inequality within public transport in Västerbotten, which is expressed in several different ways by the respondents.

Ett tillfälle för avslappning? : En enkätundersökning om svenska gymnasieelevers syn på meditation i klassrummet / A moment for relaxation? : A questionnaire study about Swedish upper secondary students view on meditation in the classroom

Graae, Simon January 2018 (has links)
Introduction: What would a Swedish upper secondary student say if suddenly, meditation was introduced as an optional addition to his or her schedule. Would they be optimistic and see it as an opportunity for relaxation in their hectic day? Or would they be of the opinion that meditation is a religious practice and should not be allowed in a secular school? Perhaps they would think neither, instead holding a more neutral opinion? This was the central question for this questionnaire study. It was asked based on the reaction yoga received when it was introduced in a Swedish school, as some adults saw it as a religious practice. Later it was decided by the School Inspection that it was to be allowed, as attendance was completely voluntary.Method: The questionnaire in this study used four closed questions to get information on the attitude of upper secondary students towards meditation in schools, their interest in attending the hypothetic meditation and the most frequently used arguments for and against it. The questionnaire was modelled after Alan Brymans book Social research methods. After the questionnaire was finalized, it was sent out to mentors of third year students of several high schools in Västerbotten County. The goal was to get 100 responses from upper secondary school students, in the end 78 responses were obtained. The results of the questionnaire were presented in circle and bar graphs. Results: The gathered information showed that a majority of the surveyed upper secondary students had a positive attitude towards meditation in their schools. Among the most frequently used arguments pro and against the meditation, the most frequent argument for the inclusion of meditation was that it would be an opportunity for relaxation. Of the arguments against the inclusion of meditation the most frequent was that it would take up unnecessary space in their schedule. Conclusion: Through the information gathered with the questionnaire we can see a theme of positive attitude from the students. A clear majority of them are either interested in trying meditation, sees it as a useful tool, or simply has a positive view of it while perhaps being less interested of trying it themselves.

Experiences and Future Needs of Primary Care Physiotherapists Encountering Asylum-seeking Patients in Västerbotten County : A pilot study

Bergmark, Fanny January 2018 (has links)
Introduction: Currently, there are one billion migrants worldwide, with Sweden being a common host country. In Swedish primary care, physiotherapists are usually the first instance for patients with musculo-skeletal complaints, ASPs included. Currently, there are no physiotherapeutic guidelines addressing the management and treatment for ASPs. Furthermore, there are some qualitative studies discussing the interaction between health care providers and ASPs or migrant patients, however, none of them are exclusively exploring the phenomenon from the physiotherapists’ perspective. The aim of this study was to explore Swedish primary care physiotherapists’ experiences and professional needs when encountering ASPs. Methods: Using a qualitative methodology with an inductive approach, a case-study consisting of four semi-structured interviews with primary care physiotherapists located in Västerbotten county were conducted between the 13th of March and the 6th of April 2018. Thematic analysis (TA) was used to analyze data. Results: Two main themes were identified; Our most challenging patient group and Demand for knowledge and frameworks. These were discussing the reasons behind the challenges when encountering ASPs, and the desire for an increased organization on a higher level to prepare physiotherapists for their encounters with ASPs. Conclusion: Findings suggest there are challenges and a request for an increased knowledge among primary care physiotherapists when encountering ASPs. These findings serve as a foundation for further research in the matter and for future adjustments in how the physiotherapeutic bachelor program is designed, how employers and the Physiotherapy union (Fysioterapeuterna) provide their employees and members with adequate knowledge, preparing them for encountering ASPs in the best possible way.

What do the elderly demand? A study of the living environment in Storuman-, Sorsele and Vilhelmina municipality

Scherbakova, Victoria January 2021 (has links)
In sparsely populated municipalities, there is a large increase of elderly people in relation to people of working age. This will entail a great need for housing for the elderly, and at the same time resources for the care of the elderly. The aim for this study is to examine how older people within Storuman-, Sorsele and Vilhelmina municipality perceive their current housing and other forms of housing for the future, and also to analyze how the housing demand is met now or in the plans for future development within the municipalities. Interviews have been conducted with both elderly but also with people who work with housing issues within the municipalities. There are incentives that the demand of shared housing will increase. The elderly feel a lack of meeting places and they prefer shared forms of housing over regular apartments. The municipalities have different challenges and different housing supply and therefore they have different approaches and plans to cope with the future housing demand for elderly.

GRAVIDA KVINNORS INTAG AV KOSTTILLSKOTT : En kvantitativ studie med fokus på järn och probiotika / PREGNANT WOMEN´S INTAKE OF DIETARY SUPPLEMENT : A quantitative study focusing on iron and probiotics

Lange Bålman, Miriam January 2019 (has links)
Materialet analyserades i SPSS. / Abstract Background Vitamin and mineral deficiencies in pregnant women can lead to miscarriage and serious disturbances in children’s development. The intestinal flora of the mother is most likely transmitted to the child during childbirth and may lay the foundation for the child's health. One possible solution to ensure an adequate intake may be the consumption of dietary supplements and probiotics. At present, there is insufficient data on supplement consumption among pregnant women. Objective The purpose of the study was to examine how many pregnant women in Västerbotten County chose to consume dietary supplements, mainly iron and probiotics, and whether there was a difference between different factors and intake. Method A quantitative cross-sectional study where pregnant women (n=1473) from the Northpop-study in Västerbotten County responded to a questionnaire regarding consumption of dietary supplements and factors such as age, education, diet etc. The material was analyzed in SPSS with Chi-2-test, independent T-Test and Mann-Whitney U-Test. Using significance level <0.05. Results The majority of participants, 90 percent, responded that they consumed dietary supplements. The factors that increased the intake of dietary supplements in pregnant women were higher age (p=0.030), higher education (p=0.006) and vegetarian/vegan diet (p=0.021). Iron was reported to be consumed by 804 people, 55 percent. The factors that increased the intake of iron supplement in pregnant women were vegetarian/vegan diet (p=0.001). Probiotics were consumed by 25 people, 2 percent. Living in urban areas (p=0.024) and eating vegetarian/vegan diet (p=0.002) increased consumption of probiotics. Conclusion The majority of participants chose to consume some type of dietary supplement, half of the participants consumed iron supplements and a small part consumed probiotics. It appears that pregnant women who are low educated, younger, eating an omnivorous diet and living outside urban areas are in the risk zone for not consuming dietary supplements. / Northpop
