Lärares användning av den interaktiva tavlan i klassrummet

Den interaktiva tavlan, som är en dyr investering, återfinns i allt fler klassrum i Sverige. Forskning har gjorts på flera håll i världen angående olika aspekter av tavlans användning och vilka konsekvenser dessa kan få. I Sverige har det ännu inte gjorts så mycket inom det här forskningsområdet. Genom observationer och spontana intervjuer har jag velat ta reda på hur lärare i en svensk skola använder tavlan och hur de ser på behovet av utbildning på området. De olika användningssätten har jag kategoriserat som Användning av tavlan som Whiteboard, Användning av tavlan som datorskärm och Användning av tavlan som interaktiv tavla, där den andra kategorin var vanligast. Jag har i mina studier sett att lärare är mycket positiva till tavlan och också använder många funktioner den har. Dock skulle lärarnas användning av tavlan även vara möjlig med en dator kopplad till en projektor. Behovet av utbildning är stort enligt lärarna själva och även enligt mina slutsatser. Jag anser att utbildning eller fortbildning bör röra både det tekniska, praktiska och det pedagogiska planet. Det är viktigt att man diskuterar och reflekterar över sin egen undervisning med tavlan i klassrummet och hur man med hjälp av tavlans alla möjligheter kan involvera eleverna mer och arbeta mot en god lärande miljö.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of using interactive whiteboard and computer technology on graduate language and mathematics student&rsquo / performance in quadratic equation functions graphics. Two groups of language and mathematics graduate students were selected for the study / one for experimental group and the other for control group. The experimental group consists of 32 students, and control group consists of 33 students. The control group is thought by traditional learning whereas the experimental group is thought the same topic by interactive whiteboard and computer technology. Graphic Achievement Test (GAT), Attitudes toward Technology Scale (ATTS) and Attitude toward Mathematics Scale (ATMS) and interviews were used as a data collection instruments. GAT applied as a pre-test, post-test and delayed post-test on both of the groups. However the attitudes scales applied only experimental group before and after the treatment.

Η εργασία αυτή παρουσιάζει έξι (6) διδακτικά σενάρια τα οποία έχουν σχεδιαστεί για τη διδασκαλία της γλώσσας σε μαθητές που φοιτούν στη Στ΄ τάξη του Δημοτικού Σχολείου. Σκοπός αυτής της εργασίας είναι να τονίσει ότι τα διδακτικά σενάρια, ως μέθοδος διδασκαλίας, μπορούν αποτελεσματικά να βοηθήσουν την εκπαιδευτική διαδικασία. Πιο συγκεκριμένα ακόμη, τα ψηφιακά μέσα και ειδικότερα ο διαδραστικός πίνακας δίνουν τη δυνατότητα σε όλους τους μαθητές να συμμετέχουν ενεργά στην εκπαιδευτική διαδικασία μέσα από την ανακαλυπτική μάθηση. / This study presents six (6) instructional scenarios that have been designed for the language tutoring in students that study at the 6th grade of Elementary School. The purpose of this study is to point out that instructional scenarios, as teaching method, can really be effective at the educational procedure. More specifically, digital media and especially the interactive whiteboard give the ability to all students to participate actively in the educational procedure through the discovery learning.

Methods of data collection include both observational recording and student interviews. The Activboard facilitates a highly interactive study of the art curriculum and data collected throughout the unit indicates a positive impact on student achievement, motivation, and interest.

Η παρούσα διπλωματική εκπονήθηκε στο εργαστήριο Αλληλεπίδρασης Ανθρώπου Υπολογιστή του τμήματος Ηλεκτρολόγων Μηχανικών και Τεχνολογίας Υπολογιστών του Πανεπιστημίου Πατρών. Σα στόχο είχε τη μελέτη της αλληλεπίδρασης σε ομάδες συνεργασίας με τη χρήση φορητών υπολογιστών, και εστίασε στις δυνατότητες που παρέχει ο υπολογιστής ταμπλέτας με σκοπό τη βελτιστοποίηση της ποιότητας διδασκαλίας. Η εφαρμογή η οποία χρησιμοποιήθηκε αρχικά ήταν το Synergo Supervisor Station, το οποίο αποτελεί εργαλείο της γενικότερης πλατφόρμας Synergo. Επανασχεδιάστηκαν ορισμένα τμήματα της διεπιφάνειας της εφαρμογής αυτής αλλά και υλοποιήθηκε ένα νέο εργαλείο για την παρακολούθηση των επιφανειών εργασιών των ομάδων συνεργασίας σε πραγματικό χρόνο. Το εργαλείο αυτό ονομάζεται Synergo Vision και είναι και αυτό μέρος της γενικότερης πλατφόρμας Synergo. Το Synergo Vision μπορεί να λειτουργήσει και αυτόνομα αλλά και ως πρόσθετο στο Synergo Supervisor Station. Με το Synergo Vision ο καθηγητής μπορεί να βλέπει σε πραγματικό χρόνο τους χώρους εργασίας των συνεργαζόμενων ομάδων, τις κινήσεις των μελών κάθε ομάδας, να αποστέλλει δραστηριότητες στις ομάδες, να επικοινωνεί μαζί τους μέσω μηνυμάτων, εκμεταλλευόμενος τις δυνατότητες που του προσφέρει η πένα των υπολογιστών ταμπλέτας αλλά και ο προβολέας σαν εναλλακτική μορφή διαδραστικού πίνακα. Κατά τη διαδικασία ανάπτυξης ακολουθήθηκε επαναληπτική διαδικασία σχεδίασης με διαδοχικούς σχεδιασμούς, υλοποιήσεις και αξιολογήσεις. / This diploma thesis was prepared for the Human – Computer Interaction (HCI) Group of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of University of Patras. The main object of this thesis was the study of the interaction on collaborative groups using portable computers, and focused on the possibilities provided by the tablet computer to optimize the teaching process. The application that was used firstly was Synergo Supervisor Station, which is part of the wider platform Synergo. Some parts of its user interface were redesigned, and a new application was developed for watching the workspaces of collaborative groups in real time. That application is called Synergo Vision and it is part of the wider platform Synergo, as well. Synergo Vision can run as a standalone application and as plug-in for Synergo Supervisor Station. Using Synergo Vision the teacher is able to watch in real time the workspaces of the collaborative groups, the moves of each group member, send activities to the groups, communicate with them using text messages, taking the advantages of the table computers’ stylus and the use of the projector as an alternative form of an interactive whiteboard. During the development phase, we use recursive design with consecutive design, implementation and evaluation strategies.

The main object of my final work is creating worksheets for teaching ?Word problems? with the interactive whiteboard and using ICT (Information and Communication Technology) at a selected school. The thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical and a practical part. The first part deals with the use of ICT and interactive whiteboards in teaching mathematics. I also mention the concept of a textbook, interactive textbook and my own comparing textbooks. The second part of my thesis contains a workbook I have prepared to my own support teaching on the interactive whiteboard this application and individual examples. Then I occupy myself with application worksheets in teaching pupils in the 9th year of primary school. In conclusion I gave results and of knowledge that I acquired during my teaching.

The thesis called ?The Creation of Materials with Multimedia Support Focusing on Teaching of Languages? deals with creation of educational materials which take advantages of available technical support (software, an interactive whiteboard, a personal computer, a projector, storage media etc.). It was necessary to find out and examine the created block of free educational materials from the internet to solve the submission of the thesis; on the basis of gained information to create the new educational block of materials which will be corresponding with the educational framework at the primary school and also with using of a cross curricular approach. The next aim of the thesis is also creating the methodology of the digital portfolio, which could be used by pupils during their studies on the storage media not only at the primary school. The expected utility was checked up in terms of university practice and also through the cooperation with primary school teachers. The benefit of the thesis should be the usable set of materials on the attached CD with the methodology for primary school teachers.

The Impact of Interactive Touchscreens in Physics Education in Upper Secondary School : A systematic literature review

Interactive touchscreens such as tablet PCs (TPC) and interactive whiteboards (IWB) are becoming more and more common in classrooms around the world. To date, very little research has been conducted on the impact of the new technology on physics education. This systematic literature review aims to investigate research on what impact tablet PCs and interactive whiteboards might have on the education in upper Secondary School. The review was performed in response to the following questions: 1. What is the influence of IWBs and TPCs on students’ active participation in physics education? 2. How can an IWB or TPC improve students’ learning about physics concepts? 3. How can educational research on touchscreen technology help inform effective teaching strategies in physics education? To respond to the questions of the study, relevant research about interactive whiteboards and/or tablet PCs was consulted and analysed. Twelve articles were located, mainly through the ERIC and Scopus databases, but also through Google Scholar. The included articles reported empirical research about physics education with interactive whiteboards or tablet PCs. The results from the articles indicate that interactive touchscreens might help improve learners’ active participation in physics education. Interactive whiteboards can, for example, be used to display interactive simulations during group work, something students are found to appreciate and easily engage in. A tablet PC can be used in the same way, but also allows students to receive anonymous support and feedback from the teacher during class which seems to be beneficial for learning. Results show that it is possible to improve students’ understanding of physics concepts by using interactive whiteboards or tablet PCs. However, further research is required to compare results from students using touch technology and students taught in traditional manner to be able to draw any general conclusions about observed learning effects.
