Martins Salmazzo, André, Tompea, Charikleia January 2020 (has links)
Background: Innovation is usually connected with benefits inside companies, the most cited by researchers is the competitive advantage. However, the pursuit of innovation may lead to a harmful working environment that can increase stress levels among employees. An industry that is well known by its innovativeness is the tech industry, therefore an investigation on their working environment is important. Purpose: Our purpose is to analyse if tech companies are creating a stressful working environment for their own employees, what are the factors that creates this and what kind of techniques and methods are companies using to tackle the increase stress in their working environment. Understanding these topics, we provide a contribution to the theory and a suggestion for companies follow in order to reduce stress among employees without losing their pursuit for innovativeness. Method: We utilize secondary data collected from different type of sources. Also, we use real life examples of companies that are trying tackle stress in their working environment, providing insights on their actions and the outcome of them. Conclusion: The results show that technology companies have several factors that increase stress in their working environment, some of them associated with company characteristics, and other associated with the industry that the tech companies are competed in. Also, some of those stressors are not being tackled by methods or techniques that companies areiiusing in order to reduce the stress among employees. In order to improve their working environment, we suggest technology companies to follow our proposed strategy based in three pillars: flexibility, support and communication.

Johansson, Emma, Waller, Agnes January 2019 (has links)
Technological development has made working conditions more digital in today’s society, where the use of wireless aids has removed boundaries creating a more flexible working environment. Individuals now have the ability to decide for themselves about when, where and how ones work should be performed. The purpose of this study is to obtain an insight on how work without boundaries is experienced by individuals. Previous research links work with less boundaries to a more sustainable lifestyle where the individual has the ability to easier separate work from leisure time. This is however highly dependent on work characteristics which determines the possibility of flexible working conditions. This study has by the use of qualitative interviews aimed focus on real estate brokers, an occupation which has work characteristics that are considered to be less determined by boundaries in terms of working hours and income. This study highlights strategies on how real estate brokers can separate work life from private life, or choose to combine the two. Finally, the study has identified a set of characteristics which are important to the individual when it comes to managing work without boundaries.

When passion becomes a profession and the profession becomes passion : A qualitative study about the experiences to work with your passion

Lind, Evelina, Heinemann, Hanna January 2020 (has links)

Det Abrupta Distansarbetets Påverkan på Studenten / The Effect of the Sudden Switch to Teleworking for Students

McPheat, Enya January 2020 (has links)
University-level students have made a sudden shift to working remotely to help society slow down the spread of COVID-19. The choice to work remotely was sudden and involuntarily. This study examines how students perceive the sudden and unexpected change to working remotely and how reduced physical interactions have affected work and work-life balance. A qualitative interview study, with an inductive approach, has been based on ten semi-structured interviews of full-time students from different study programs and study areas. The results of these interviews have been analyzed by comparing the students’ experiences to current literature, such as factors that affect distance work, social support and work-life balance. The results showed that students perceive the transition sudden but necessary. There were trends that implied that the switch had affected the students’ productivity and work-engagement, because of the lack of structure and social support. The results suggest that telework is better suited for some people more than others, due to personal skills and life situations. More preparation in terms av creating new structures for sudden switches to teleworking and improving ways of social interaction remotely, could be possible solutions to improving the transition of work arrangements.
