Hustru & make, alkoholist & feminist? : – en kvalitativ studie av genusframställningar iskillingtrycksvisor från slutet av 1800-talet

Roos, Hanna January 2022 (has links)

Characterization of Pollutants in Florida Street Sweepings for Management and Reuse

Jang, Yong Chul, Jain, Pradeep, Tolaymat, Thabet, Dubey, Brajesh, Townsend, Timothy 01 November 2009 (has links)
Disposal and beneficial-use options for street sweeping residuals collected as part of routine roadway maintenance activities in Florida, USA, were assessed by characterizing approximately 200 samples collected from 20 municipalities. Total concentrations (mg/kg or μg/kg) and leachable concentrations (mg/L or μg/L) of 11 metals and a number of organic pollutant groups (volatile organics, semi-volatile organics, pesticides, herbicides, carbamates) in the samples were measured. The synthetic precipitation leaching procedure (SPLP) was performed to evaluate the leachability of the pollutants. From the total metal analysis, several metals (e.g., arsenic, barium, chromium, copper, nickel, lead, and zinc) were commonly found above their detection limits. Zinc was found to have the highest mean concentration of all metals measured (46.7 mg/kg), followed by copper (10.7 mg/kg) and barium (10.5 mg/kg). The metal with the smallest mean concentration was arsenic (0.48 mg/kg). A small fraction of the total arsenic, barium, lead, and zinc leached in some samples using the SPLP; leached concentrations were relatively low. A few organic compounds (e.g., 4,4′-DDT, endrin, and endosulfan II) were detected in a limited number of samples. When the total and leaching results were compared to risk-based Florida soil cleanup target levels and groundwater cleanup target levels, the street sweepings were not found to pose a significant human-health risk via direct exposure or groundwater contamination.

Kartläggning och övervakning av den invasiva arten parkslide (Reynoutria japonica) i Blekinge län : En jämförelse mellan olika övervakningsmetoder / Mapping and monitoring of invasive Japanese knotweed (Reynoutria japonica) in Blekinge County, Sweden : A comparison between different monitoring methods

Wallin, Ylva January 2022 (has links)
Invasive alien species is a major threat to endemic biodiversity. Mapping and monitoring of invasive species is important in order to prevent spreading and reduce impacts. The invasive plant Japanese knotweed is spread across the south of Sweden and is threatening to harm native species and cause damage to infrastructure, due to its aggressive invasive capacity. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of Japanese knotweed in relation to urban areas and to compare two different methods of mapping Japanese knotweed in Blekinge County, Sweden. Data from SLU Swedish Species Information Centre (Artdatabankens Artportal) from the years 2020–2021 was used to compare the presence of Japanese knotweed near to (0–5 km) and farther away from (5–10 km) urban areas. In addition, Google Street View (GSV) was used as a method for mapping Japanese knotweed by comparing the number of observations inGSV to the number of reported findings in Artportalen. Finally, a comparison was made between the patch size (m2) reported in Artportalen versus from a field study. The result of the study shows a trend that the number of reported findings increase near urban areas, although the trend is not statistically significant. The result alsoshows that the number of observations in GSV match the number of reported findings in Artportalen. Finally, the result indicates that the mean patch size in Artportalen versus that from the field study does not significantly differ from each other. However, the variation in the data was substantial and sometimes showed large differences in patch size, which likely reduced statistical power. In conclusion, the result of this study shows that reporting through Artportalen can give an indication of the spread of Japanese knotweed, but that the findings may need to be verified by field studies. Furthermore, the study shows that GSV can be a useful method to verify reported findings in a resource-efficient way.

An exploration of street robberies at Bungeni Village under Makhado Municipality, Limpopo Province, South Africa

Hlungwane, Hlamalani Mildred January 2021 (has links)
Thesis (M. A. (Criminology and Criminal Justice)) -- University of Limpopo, 2021 / The purpose of this study was to explore street robberies at Bungeni village, situated under Makhado Municipality of Limpopo Province, South Africa. The study sought to identify factors contributing to street robberies, to assess experiences of victims of these robberies and to determine measures that can be applied to prevent them. This qualitative study applied the exploratory research design to recruit participants using non-probability sampling techniques, specifically purposive and snowball sampling techniques. Thirteen (13) participants, including ten (10) victims of street robbery and three (3) local SAPS officials were selected for this study. Data was collected using individual face-to-face semi-structured interviews. Based on the transcribed data, themes were extracted and analysed using Thematic Content Analysis (TCA). This study established that there are factors that contribute to the occurrence of street robberies; victims are affected by street robberies (i.e. be it social, psychological and financial); and that there are measures that may reduce the occurrence of these robberies. Findings of the research indicate that factors such as time, space, individual’s lifestyle and routine activities contribute to victims being robbed in the streets and that these victims experience victimisation of street robberies differently. For recommendations, this study argues that some of these factors are lifestyle exposure, individual activities, spatial and temporal factors. Street robberies are characterised by the use of weapons, force and threat of force by offenders. Lastly, street robberies have a negative impact on victims. TJÄNSTEPERSONENS HANDLINGSUTRYMME -En studie om tjänstepersonens handlingsutrymme på lokalpolisnivå

Goczkowska, Ewa January 2020 (has links)
Since January 1, 2015, the police authority's largest organizational reform took place, and 21 county police authorities were merged into one unified police authority. The purpose of this was to increase the prerequisites for a stronger operating result with higher quality in the efforts. In connection with the reorganization, they sought to have a more distinct management where the operations would be employee driven. In this study, the official's space for action is studied, and to what extent the public works are considered regarding the expertise and knowledge of the employees at local police level. Through an interview study the officials of the local police level shared the experiences and how the reorganization's impact on the space of action has affected their ability on making decisions. The analysis of the study takes the biggest inspiration from Lisky's street-level bureaucracy theory but also shows elements of the authority's structure, i.e. top-down and bottom-up perspective. The study also takes into account the public officials’ tools of power and analyzes the exercise of power.

Entrapped Between State and Tradition: The Effects of Graffiti and Street Art on the Jordanian Society

Tarawneh, Aram January 2020 (has links)
The last seven years have been a transformation point for graffiti and street art in Jordan. Due to the constant inequality that women face in Jordan, graffiti and street artists grabbed the first opportunity presented to them in order to address these issues, when the Baladk Street Art Festival took place in the capital of Jordan, Amman. They used this festival as an opportunity to spread awareness and tell stories related to inequality as well as claim their rights. Resistance from conservative groups in the society towards these murals resulted in more restrictions from the municipality about the content of them. However, artists did not back up and fought their way to keep their art on the city’s walls, but they had to work harder in order to disguise the messages they wished to send to the public. Social change was used as the main concept to follow in this thesis in order to arrive at a conclusion that shows the change that had taken place in Jordan due to graffiti and street art, especially social change regarding ideas and social movements as well as political processes. In order to get the people’s, the municipality’s and artists’ perspectives, qualitative methods were used such as interviews and a survey. Results showed that the municipality's position on the effects of graffiti and street on the society as well as the strict regulations are partially the same. In the meantime, interviews with artists and the survey showed the struggle the artists go through when painting and also the change in the people’s behavior that occurred in the last seven years, from the start of the project until now. The survey’s results showed that most of the people understood the exact meaning of the murals and some respondents interpreted the messages according to their experiences. Therefore, it was concluded that graffiti and street art can serve as a prospective tool to drive social change in the Jordanian society, yet not solitarily. Different aspects, such as people’s behavior, shifting norms as well as a change in laws and policies need to work hand in hand in order to achieve the desired change and cause a social and cultural evolution.

Getting “Banksied”: Culture Jamming in Practice

Salih, Jasmin January 2019 (has links)
This paper discusses culture jamming as the countercultural tool of our current mass media society and argues for a more holistic understanding of the concept in order to open up its subversive potential. Part of this holisitic approach involves emphasizing the role of remediation inherent in the concept. Thus, the aim of this paper is twofold: to elaborate the diverse techniques involved in culture jamming (as opposed to the common reductionist approaches to the concept) and, more importantly, to highlight the remediation elements imbedded in culture jamming practices. To accomplish this, the works of street artist Banksy are taken as a case study and analyzed to answer the following questions: In what ways do the works of street artist Banksy subvert or “jam” culture? And how does remediation come into play in these jamming practices?

Latino immigrant child welfare involvement & street-level bureaucracy: caseworkers' experiences within an organizational context

Rosales, Anna Maria 21 November 2017 (has links)
Latino immigrants are the fastest growing foreign group and appear to be suffering from disproportionate risks of involvement in the child welfare system. Yet, there is limited knowledge in regards to this population when involved in the child welfare system and the day-to-day complexity of issues, stressors, and barriers they face. This qualitative study aims to understand the day-to-day reality of being a Latino immigrant in this system as well as the organizations that work with this population. Street-level bureaucracy theory is used to explore how private non-profit child welfare agencies work to assist their Latino immigrant clients on a day-to-day basis. It also examines the perceptions and experiences of non-profit child welfare staff members in regards to accountability and discretion toward both the organization and their Latino immigrant clients. Qualitative methodology was used to gain in-depth knowledge of how these agencies are working with this population. Three private non-profit child welfare agencies located in Los Angeles County were selected. Each agency has a foster care and adoptions component as well as various other programs such as Project Fatherhood, Family Preservation, and Unaccompanied Child program. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with a total of 19 staff members. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed using thematic analysis. Findings from this study found that the complex issues that exist with this population in the child welfare system are not discussed at a detailed or formal level. Also, there are gaps between policies and practices, in that the universal policies in place are not meeting all the needs of these families and creating barriers in servicing these families. At the organizational level, it was found that these agencies have more time and availability for their immigrant clients due to a lower caseload and agency flexibility. They were able to be more accountable to their clients and used their discretion to spend more time with these clients, advocate more for them, provide more quality work, and have more creativity in filling the gaps these families are experiencing in regards to access to services and service use.
