About to turn 80 and known as the best university of the country according to the
General Courses Index (IGC), the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS)
has its origins with Higher Education Schools and Colleges, home of the Higher
Education in Rio Grande do Sul, which started working in Porto Alegre in the late
19th century. Due to its academic excellence, UFRGS has produced and
accumulated over the years a rich archival heritage. So this research's goal is to
identify and to propose an arrangement system for this archival heritage through the
digital platform ICA-AtoM to describe and disseminate finding aids guide and
inventory. This research is justified by the condition of UFRGS as a higher education
institution with a significant importance in the state scenario as a national institution,
through education, research and extension developed by it. As theoretical ground for
this research, were used references that contemplated the concept of cultural
heritage linked with the identification of archival heritage in this context. Also were
debated and put into context archives administration themes, as the identification of
archives administration as a science, archival functions, emphasizing Arrangement,
Description and Diffusion of archives. The context of this study was given through a
brief UFRGS historic, of how the Documentation Division was structured and how the
archival holdings are organized. This is an applied, descriptive, qualitative research
and a case study. The data collection was made through direct observation, as well
as bibliographic and documental research. With this study it was able to identify the
archival document as archival heritage, to set an arrangement system for UFRGS's
archival holdings, to make an archival description and diffusion through the creation
of a guide and an inventory and to implement these finding aids on the ICA-AtoM
software. As the developed product, there are the guide and inventory of the holdings
in custody by the Documentation Division, indispensable instruments for access,
conservation and diffusion of the archival heritage. Lastly, it is important to highlight
the need to continue this work that was a pioneer in its context of application, and it
should be amplified and reevaluated when necessary. / Prestes a completar 80 anos e tida como a melhor universidade do país
segundo o Índice Geral de Cursos (IGC), a Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do
Sul (UFRGS) tem suas origens nas Escolas Superiores e Faculdades, berços do
Ensino Superior no Rio Grande do Sul, que passaram a funcionar em Porto Alegre
no final do Século XIX. Devido a sua excelência acadêmica, a UFRGS tem
produzido e acumulado, ao longo dos anos, um rico patrimônio documental
arquivístico. Assim, esta pesquisa tem como objetivo a identificação e a proposição
de uma sistemática de arranjo para esse patrimônio documental, através da
plataforma digital -ICA-AtoM, com fins à descrição e à difusão dos instrumentos de
pesquisa - guia e inventário. A justificativa para esta pesquisa permeia a condição
da UFRGS enquanto instituição de ensino superior com uma importância
significativa tanto no cenário rio-grandense como nacional, através do ensino, da
pesquisa e da extensão desenvolvidos por ela. Como embasamento teórico para
esta pesquisa, foram utilizados referenciais que conceituassem o patrimônio cultural,
passando pelo identificação do patrimônio documental arquivístico neste contexto.
Também, foram discutidos e contextualizados temáticas da Arquivologia, tais como a
identificação da Arquivologia como ciência, as funções arquivísticas, destacando-se
o Arranjo, a Descrição arquivística e a Difusão de arquivos. O contexto de estudo foi
dado através de um breve histórico da UFRGS, como foi estruturada a Divisão de
Documentação e como está constituído o acervo arquivístico. Esta pesquisa é de
natureza aplicada, descritiva, qualitativa e configurou-se em um estudo de caso. A
coleta de dados foi realizada a partir de observação direta, bem como de pesquisa
bibliográfica e documental. Com esta pesquisa foi possível: identificar o documento
arquivístico como patrimônio documental e cultural; estabelecer uma sistemática de
arranjo para o acervo arquivístico da UFRGS; elaborar a descrição arquivística e a
difusão através da criação do guia e do inventário; implementar os instrumentos de
pesquisa no software ICA-AtoM. Como produto desenvolvido, está o Guia e
Inventário do acervo custodiado pela Divisão de Documentação, instrumentos estes
imprescindíveis para o acesso, preservação e difusão do patrimônio documental
arquivístico. Por fim, cabe destacar a necessidade de continuidade deste trabalho
que foi pioneiro em seu contexto de aplicação, devendo ser ampliado e reavaliado a
medida em que se fizer necessário.

Archivists have many times been compared with librarians, which is done in this master thesis. The two professions have changed in recent years. One of the reasons is digital development. The digital age has changed the way people live and the need of information, but also processes within organisational structures. In order to be able to provide relevant and efficient services, the archives and libraries have strived for new skills that are useful in the digital environment. Therefore, the need of competence has increased. There are different types of knowledge required of archivists and librarians, but both have their theoretical knowledge from information science. Through digital development, similar interests can be developed that can be a good reason for collaboration between the two professions. The purpose of the study is to see how the two professions have changed as a result of the digitalisation. Literature studies provide a long-term perspective, which provides an opportunity to see how well something has been discussed and relevant to research that has been conducted. Therefore, the study uses this approach. Literature that has been searched for was limited between the years 2000 to 2020. Assessment of the relevance of literature is done by reading through the abstract and title from searches results in databases. The study collects a total of 40 literature for analysis. Theory of profession is used as a tool to analyse the result. In archival research and information science, digital curation has emerged. The concept is about the availability and usability of data in a long-term perspective. There is a connection to the concept for both archivists and librarians. Digital data needs to be planned and managed at an early stage, to ensure the life cycle of records. Leadership in archives and libraries is something that has developed more, because project management has become important for developing services and the profession. This may be due to threats about the relevance of the professions, but it can also be about being able to develop better services, strategy and different standards, which are more adapted to the digital possibilities. Collaboration between archivists and librarians can be useful in projects where the focus is on developing data management and services, also for promoting research and accessibility and in terms of assisting researchers in their research with information retrieval. Further studies can focus more deeply on areas of expertise that are being developed, which are relevant for both archivists and librarians.

Previous issue date: 2013-08-05 / The purpose of this study was to research on the professional practice of the librarianarchivists
from Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de Goiás (IFG), intending
to understand how the materialization of men and women workforce happens, in times of
flexible accumulation, in the environment of school library in the technological age. The
practice of the librarian-archivist is here understood as a social and historical construction,
permeated by contradictions between capital and labor. Considering that education is
historically influenced by changes occurring in the world of work, according to Marxian and
Marxist conceptions, it is pertinent to research on how labor relationships librarian
professionals develop. Field research was conducted in the ten IFG campuses, with survey on
empirical data, through questionnaires, semi-structured interviews and analysis of documents.
The data were analyzed according to the principles of dialectical and historical materialism,
mainly based on Marx, Antunes, Manacorda Frigotto, Hirata and Nogueira, with the purpose
of articulating the object of research and its multiple historical, political, economic, social and
cultural determinants. According to data analyzed, based on the theoretical frameworks
adopted, we have understood that overcoming the existing limits, so as the librarian-archivists
may reach decent working conditions, concerns the formation of a political identity, able to
reveal the processes of alienation of capitalist mode of production, based on the understanding
that omnilateral education of workmen and workwomen is the way towards some
humanization of men and women. We have gotten to the conclusion that new technologies
concerning professional practice of librarian-archivists at IFG are, at once, essential and
contradictory: although they are crucial to facilitate work, they are also essential to promote
extraction of relative surplus value, though not recognized by the professionals involved. The
librarian-archivist plays a multifunctional role so as to perform institutional policies which
diversify his/her practice with a variety of technologies, complexity of courses and users who
wish having more autonomy on what concerns the use of services and, consequently, control
over the librarian practice. Such tools also serve as a mechanism for flow control of
production and quality of services performed by librarian-archivists. Besides, we have come
across three differences in the performance of men and women: (1) in the way men and
women deal with new technologies; (2) double shift performed by women, conciliating
professional and domestic life, fact that happens at a lesser extent among men and (3) women
are more interested in permanent qualification so as to deal with new technologies in their
professional practice. / O estudo teve como objeto de pesquisa o exercício profissional das/dos bibliotecárias(os)-
documentalistas do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de Goiás (IFG)
visando compreender, interpretar e analisar como acontece a materialização da força de
trabalho da trabalhadora e do trabalhador, em tempos de produção flexível, no ambiente da
biblioteca escolar, na era tecnológica. Considerando que a educação é historicamente
influenciada pelas transformações ocorridas no mundo do trabalho, à luz das concepções
marxiana e marxistas, torna-se pertinente investigar como se desenvolvem as relações de
trabalho da/do profissional de biblioteconomia e da ciência da informação em instituições
educacionais. A pesquisa de campo foi realizada nos dez câmpus do IFG com levantamento de
dados empíricos por meio de questionários, entrevistas semiestruturadas e análise de
documentos. Os dados foram analisados seguindo os princípios do materialismo histórico
dialético, fundamentados sobretudo nas obras de Marx, Antunes, Manacorda, Frigotto, Hirata
e Nogueira, buscando articular o objeto de pesquisa e seus múltiplos determinantes históricos,
políticos e econômicos, sociais e culturais. Pelos dados analisados, de acordo com os
referenciais teóricos adotados, entendeu-se que a superação dos limites existentes para que
as/os bibliotecárias(os)-documentalistas possam conquistar condições dignas de trabalho
passa pela constituição de uma identidade política, capaz de desvendar os processos de
alienação do modo de produção capitalista, partindo da compreensão de que a educação
omnilateral da trabalhadora e do trabalhador é o caminho para a humanização da mulher e do
homem.Verificou-se que as novas tecnologias no exercício profissional das/dos
bibliotecárias(os)-documentalistas no IFG são essenciais e contraditórias, embora sejam
fundamentais para facilitar o trabalho, elas também o são para extração da mais-valia relativa
ainda que não reconhecidas pelas/pelos profissionais. A/O bibliotecária(o)-documentalista se
faz multifuncional para atender as políticas institucionais que diversificam seu trabalho com
uma variedade de tecnologias, complexidade de cursos e de usuárias(os) que buscam mais
autonomia de uso dos serviços e, consequentemente, controle sobre o trabalho da/do
profissional da biblioteca. Essas ferramentas também servem como mecanismo de controle do
fluxo de produção e de qualidade de serviços realizados pelas/pelos bibliotecárias(os)-
documentalistas. Percebeu-se três diferenças no exercício do trabalho entre mulher e homem:
(1) no modo de utilizar as novas tecnologias por mulheres e homens; (2) a dupla jornada
realizada pelas mulheres conciliando vida profissional com a doméstica, fato que ocorre em
menor intensidade com os homens; (3) maior interesse das mulheres em qualificação
permanente para lidar com as novas tecnologias no exercício profissional.

Social Media as a Crisis Response : How is the water crisis in Cape Town dealt with on TwitterPettersson, Sandra January 2018 (has links)
In our interconnected world, social media is a vital tool for communication in the everyday life of individuals. The importance of social media in society has increased not only in times of peace, but social media has grown to be instrument of influencing crisis. In recent years, social media’s role in crisis and crisis response was observed by many scholars for different crisis. One of the most recent ones is the water crisis in Cape Town, South Africa, which was chosen as a case study due to its current relevance in the social media landscape. The obviously high use of social in this crisis is what this qualitative desk study investigates. This study does, however, not aim to analyse social media as a solution for a crisis, but sheds light on the patterns of social media behaviour. This research thus aims to understand Why people turn to social media in a crisis? Subsequent to this, this research analyses whether different types of users resort to social media during a crisis for different reasons. The results were obtained through applying a frameworks: As the main tool of analysis, the Different Users and Usage Framework by Houston et al. (2015). Assisting on explaining some specific part of the findings, the Theory of Planned Behavior (Icek Ajzen, 1991) was applied. Three main findings were analysed for the case study: (1) People turn to social media during a crisis for different reasons and in the case of the water crisis in South Africa, fifteen usage areas were observed. (2) According to the analytical results, different users tend to dominate different usage areas and (3) During the Cape Town crisis, it was common practice for businesses and corporations to raise awareness and combine it with promoting their business.

Archive profession, just like other professions, has not so long ago observed the lack of women in the archive world. The old patriarchal order and other power relations kept women out of archives and the labor market. Today, the labor market and the archive world look completely different as women just like men, are treated equally. There is even talk of a shift, that the norm of male archivist has instead become a norm of women archivist. The aim of this studie was to discover if a possible shift can be expressed within the international archival journal Archival Science, by examining what the gender distribution looks like among writers and how gender issues are addressed in the articles. With a qualitative and quantitative content analysis as method and a theory of gender systems by Yvonne Hirdman, the studie where able to obtain gender statistics and scheme from the contributing writers in the journal, and also what the writers dealt with when gender was mentioned in their research. The main result showed that women, both when it came to gender distribution among Archival Science writers and which of them touched on gender in their articles, the gender distribution of the various subject categories based on what was treated subjectively when gender was raised, were most numerous in all results. On the other hand, it was clear that both gender issues and women became more towards the end of the study period, and that the gender category of men shrunk in number, at the same time as the number of writers who wrote articles together regardless of gender, grew. Which means that the gender order changed during the period examined.

Située au carrefour de l’histoire des archives, de la construction des savoirs, de l’histoire des sciences et du pragmatisme, cette thèse se propose dans la double optique de la biographie intellectuelle de l’archiviste et historien dijonnais Joseph Garnier (1815-1903) et d’une généalogie des pratiques et des méthodes de l’archivistique de s’attacher à étudier la place de l’archive et du traitement qui lui fut réservé dans le courant du XIXe siècle aux Archives et dans l’écriture de l’histoire. En opposant l’archivable à l’éditable la rénovation des archives locales provoque une perturbation des cadres méthodologiques et un sentiment d’urgence technique et scientifique : l’inventorisation devait impérativement prendre le pas sur l’édition exhaustive des richesses paléographiques de la France. Ce réaménagement des représentations archivistiques offre la possibilité d’un chassé-croisé entre science des documents et administration des fonds. Ces deux nécessités réussissent une conciliation par le réajustement des objectifs assignés aux inventaires sommaires via leur normalisation. Obligées de faire de l’inventaire-sommaire et de la description des actes préalables à l’utilisation et à la publication des documents historiques, les Archives locales manifestent qu’il existe des savoirs et des pratiques spécifiques à la gestion des documents. The present work was developed during the Masters Course in the Vocational
Graduation Program in Cultural Heritage at the Federal University of Santa. This
research aimed at investigating the reality of the Heritage Education in the
Elementary School system in Santa Maria/RS to, after knowing this reality, propose
subsides of guidelines focusing educator so that they can bring children and
teenagers closer to the local heritage, especially the documental heritage in custody
of the Municipal Historical Archive. The dialogue between Archive and School is
critical to make students understand the importance to preserve their local heritage
which is their own heritage. Starting from this and, considering the fact that the
Municipal Historical Archive is visited by just a few students from elementary school,
we tried to investigate the causes of this detachment. Our study is a descriptive field
research with a quantitative and qualitative approach. To investigate the Heritage
Education scenario in the city of Santa Maria we used a questionnaire that was sent
to fifty-eight private, State and Municipal schools of the administrative urban center
region and its neighboring regions but only twenty-one schools returned with some
feedback. With the analysis of the collected data we can infer that the Heritage
Education is present at school but is not worked from the Municipal Historical Archive
documental heap because the educators do not know the services and research
possibilities offered by the information unit. In this way, as educators are actions
multipliers at school, the Heritage Education Program from the Santa Maria Municipal
Historical Archive began with actions directe to the educators, such as the Meeting
and the Orientation Guide for Educators. / O presente trabalho foi desenvolvido durante o Curso de Mestrado do Programa de
Pós-Graduação Profissionalizante em Patrimônio Cultural da Universidade Federal
de Santa Maria. Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo investigar o cenário da Educação
Patrimonial na rede de ensino fundamental de Santa Maria/RS para a partir dessa
realidade, propor subsídios de orientação direcionados aos educadores para que
aproximem as crianças e adolescentes do patrimônio local, mais precisamente do
patrimônio documental do Arquivo Histórico do Município. O diálogo entre arquivo e
escola é fundamental para despertar nos estudantes a importância de preservar o
patrimônio de sua localidade, que não deixa de ser o seu próprio patrimônio.
Partindo dessa premissa e do fato do Arquivo Histórico Municipal de Santa Maria ser
frequentado por um número reduzido de estudantes do ensino fundamental,
procurou-se investigar as causas desse distanciamento. O estudo constitui-se numa
pesquisa de campo do tipo descritiva com uma abordagem quantitativa e qualitativa.
Para investigar o cenário da Educação Patrimonial no município de Santa Maria
utilizou-se do questionário, que foi encaminhado para cinquenta e oito escolas
particulares, estaduais e municipais da região administrativa centro urbano e regiões
limítrofes, mas apenas obteve-se retorno de vinte e uma escolas. Com a análise dos
dados infere-se que a Educação Patrimonial está presente dentro da escola, mas
que não é trabalhada a partir do acervo documental do Arquivo Histórico Municipal
por desconhecimento dos educadores acerca dos serviços e possibilidades de
pesquisa oferecidas pela unidade de informação. Desta forma, como os educadores
são os multiplicadores de ações nas escolas, o Programa de Educação Patrimonial
do Arquivo Histórico Municipal de Santa Maria partiu de ações direcionadas a eles,
como o Encontro e o Guia de Orientação para Educadores.
