Pastýřské listy starokatolického biskupa Augustina Podoláka v letech nesvobody / Pastoral Letters of the Old Catholic Bishop Augustin Podolák in the Years of Limited Freedom

Mádlová, Monika January 2016 (has links)
The thesis deals with the topic of the pastoral letters of the Old Catholic bishop Augustin Podolák from the years 1971 till 1989, in other words during the time, when the bishop was deprived by the state of his state approval for spiritual functions. To illustrate the case the thesis include also three letters from the time after the revolution, that can shed some lite on the depth of the personality of Bishop Augustin. Beside the pastoral letters the thesis deals also with the history of the Old Catholic Church, because this history often influenced the content of the bishop's letters. Last but not least the thesis offers also a biography of the second Old Catholic bishop from his birth till his death.

Belief, backbone, and bulldozers! : Fergus O’Grady’s vision of Catholic, "integrated" education in northern British Columbia, 1956-1989

Beliveau, Kevin Edward Vicente 11 1900 (has links)
Little has been written of either parochial or integrated educational history in northern British Columbia. Prince George College, founded in 1956 by Bishop Fergus O'Grady of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, represents a. particular attempt by the Catholic community of the Diocese of Prince George to offer a Catholic education for both Aboriginal and white students in northern British Columbia. Using the personal and professional files of the late Bishop O'Grady and other documentary evidence made available to me by the Archives of the Diocese of Prince George an attempt has been made to construct an image of Bishop 0'Grady's "vision" for Prince George College. Using letters, memos, minutes, personal notes, and a number of available monographs on the subject of parochial, Aboriginal, integrated,- and northern Canadian education, this thesis begins the process of piecing together some of the bishop's plans and visions for the school from its founding to its change of name in 1989 to "O'Grady Catholic High School" and eventual closing in June, 2001. Chapter One details the bishop's construction of not only the school's financial groundwork, but more importantly its ethos - a narrative rooted in century's old stories of the Oblates and their pioneering efforts to establish Christianity in northern B.C. The second chapter examines the role of volunteerism and parental support in staffing the school. In'particular, much credit must be given to the Frontier Apostles - a lay, volunteer organization started by Bishop 0'Grady - for the day-to-day running of the school for most of its thirty years. The third chapter looks specifically at the "integrated" nature of the school - the supposed presence of integration of both Aboriginal and white students. What is constructed is an image of the bishop's vision that finally provides some context to his plans for the school. The school lay on a foundation of a carefully constructed ethos, the sacrifices of hundreds of lay volunteers, and the involuntary financial subsidies provided by Aboriginal students from approximately 1960 to 1989. The school finally closed its doors in 2001 citing both financial difficulties and a lack of local parental support. Much can be learned from the mistakes of the past in any future attempts to re-open the institution. / Education, Faculty of / Educational Studies (EDST), Department of / Graduate

La formation du clergé du Dahomey/Bénin de 1914 à nos jours / The formation of the Dahomey/Benin clergy from 1914 till date

Zossou, Julien 15 March 2011 (has links)
For the mission in Dahomey, it was asked of Bishop Marion-Brésillac to found the Society of African Missions. So had it not been easy for the missionaries who arrived in the SMA Dahomey to prepare future generations by forming the local clergy, even if this was contrary to the doctrine of their founder on the native clergy. It was finally by the insistence of the Holy See and by the determination of Mgr Steinmetz, second Apostolic Vicar of Dahomey that the local clergy was established. But unlike the elders the younger generations call for better quality of their training. Superiors eventually responded positively to the requests of seminarians. Compagnie de Saint-Sulpice solicited for this cause, handed over going the direction of the seminary to the diocesan clergy in conformity with the terms of the contract with the bishops while continuing to contribute to the formation of seminarians. The hierarchy is fully returned to the local clergy, she is responsible for guiding the formation of future priests in agreement with the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. Seminary for lecturers now furnished with the canonical academic degrees, work to the harmony and quality of training of Benin seminarians according to the Fundamentalis ratio of the Church in an inculturation spirit. Evangelism gradually extends and permeates the culture of Benin Gospel values. Benin priests marked the nation's history. And the dynamism of both the faithful and clergy of Benin is also evident at the Universal Church.

Historická geneze Pravoslavné církve v českých zemích / Historical genesis of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands

Táborský, Jiří January 2021 (has links)
The following work will examine the historical genesis of the unit that will serve the Orthodox Church in the Czech lands. It will also defend the religious doctrine of that community and its relations with the state and other Christian denominations, especially with those that have historically had to reflect, and with those that have traditionally dominated the Czech territory and share in the co-importance of the national ethos. In our diploma thesis we try to respond to the questions of the origin of Orthodoxy, its development in history, its arrival in our territory, and its fate here. The subject of our research will be examined mainly from the historical point of view, but with some interdisciplinary intersections, especially in the field of literary history, linguistics, religion and comparative cultural studies in religion and collective psychology in determining and influencing the Czech nation's own national identity. Of course, all this with a critical distance, but also with a feeling for the spirit of the relevant epoch.

(The Missing) Mirrors and Windowsin the English Classroom : Representation and Diversity in Novels Used in Upper Secondary School / (Saknade) speglar och fönster i engelskklassrummet : Representation och mångfald i romaner som används i gymnasiet

Lindskog, Åsa January 2021 (has links)
This essay aims to investigate representation and diversity in novels used in the English teaching inupper secondary school, and whether teachers take representation into account when choosing whatnovels to work with. A web survey was used to ask 71 teachers of English open questions regardingwhat novels they use in their teaching and why. The results demonstrate that the majority of the usednovels depict normative protagonists and settings, although there is some diversity and representationof different genders, races, ages, abilities and settings. It is also shown in the results that the majorityof the responding teachers do not think about representation when choosing what novels to workwith, while some respondents do indicate that they take aspects of representation into account. Theresults are discussed by drawing on ideas about representation, diversity and an intersectional genderpedagogy from Rudine Sims Bishop and Nina Lykke.

Excessive funeral expenditure in the black townships, a pastoral challenge

Moreo, Bishop Stephen Mosimanegape January 2013 (has links)
Funerals are still considered as very important and well attended occasion in the black townships of South Africa. In the recent past, traditional African funerals practices have affected a number of powerful and complex systems that have been interaction in Africa. The three most important being traditional African cultures, modern Western culture and the environment. The study was conducted to establish factors that led to excessive funerals expenditures in some black townships communities of South Africa, in order to create a pastoral response to this phenomenon. The project was done in Ramatlabama village in the North West province and also in Soweto in the province of Gauteng. A qualitative methodological plan was followed allowing exclusive experiences to emerge. Families, adults and young church groups, clergy, Bishop, Social group and a Funeral undertaker , an in-depth qualitative analysis was employed in order to find the real reasons that led to excessive funeral expenditure. The data collected and analyzed revealed that factors such as impressing neighbors, meeting community and family expectation were the reasons for the phenomenon. There were other external factors that contributed indirectly to the practice and such as commercialization and politicization. In order to address this practice that is making the poor more vulnerable, the Shepherding Model of Gerkin’s and Pollard’s Theory of positive deconstruction was explored. It was found that the Clergy needed to be helped to be aware of the fact that excessive funeral expenditure requires a pastoral response with the right attitude and meaningful dialogues with those affected. The pastoral care-giver with adequate knowledge and exposure to life of pastoral care seeker will have a greater advantage to help most if not all families that usually find themselves in this predicament or dilemma. The best way for the church to help the poor families venture into the future, it’s by educating our communities on how not to spend beyond their means. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / gm2013 / Practical Theology / unrestricted
