Bertoldi, Rafaela January 2014 (has links)
The theme of this research is burnout in the sporting context, more specifically the predictors of burnout in professional futsal Brazilian athletes. The main objective was to evaluate and test the Inventory Factors Predictors of Burnout in Athletes (IFPBA-24), supported by three theoretical models: (1) Cognitive-Affective Model of Stress; (2) Model Negative Response to Stress and Physical Training (3) Model of Social Perspective. To fulfill this goal three studies were conducted, it should be noted that the research is part of a larger study and continued on models of sports competitions. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee in Research of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul - UFRGS - under the protocol number 271.526. Study 1: The first study was conducted to reduce the items of the Inventory of Signs and Symptoms of Burnout in Athletes (ISSBA-60), through the exploratory factor analysis, and then was tested the confirmatory validity of the proposed model based on the 24 items retained in first review and was evaluated the internal consistency of the dimensions of the new instrument: Inventory Factors Predictors of Burnout in Athletes (IFPBA-24). The sample was composed by 130 brazilian futsal professional athletes, all male, with age ranged 18-36 years who compete in the Cup Brazil Futsal-Adult-Male (Special Branch). The results showed that on the basis of factor analytic procedures conducted 24 items were selected, equally distributed in six dimensions (Sensation of helplessness before training and competitions, Physical exhaustion, Low perception of competence, Difficulty of reconciling sporting life and social life, Exhaustion emotional, Sensation and inability to improve performance in training and competition), which explained 61.75% of the total variance. A confirmatory factor analysis evaluated the new model of the IFPBA-24, and all indexes (x2/gl = 1.85, GFI = 0.930, AGFI = 0.912, RMS = 0.082) showed appropriate values. The six dimensions had Cronbach's alpha indices ranging from 0.67 to 0.75. Taken together, these results indicate that the new model provides adequate level of validity and internal consistency. Study 2: This study explored possible similarities and differences in all the levels of burnout in athletes, controlling variables, education, years of professionalization (up to six years and more than six years of professional practice) and the presence or absence of lesions in the last year. The study involved the participation of a sample of 130 Brazilian futsal professional athletes - dependent "Study 1", aged 18-36 years. The results indicate no significant differences (p <0.05) in the responses of athletes, when these variables are controlled. Study 3: This study showed the occurrence of possible differences or similarities between statistical predictors of burnout in athletes. The sample was the same as in the second study. The results indicate that there are similarities statistics (p > 0,05) and significant differences (p < 0,05) between the scores of the predictors of burnout in athletes. These results suggest that the predictors of burnout in professional futsal Brazilian athletes with higher levels are: “Difficulty of reconciling sporting life and social life and “Physical exhaustion”; and factors at lower levels are: “Sensation of helplessness before training and competitions” and “Low perception of competence”.

Érika Feltrin Marques Nakano 17 March 2017 (has links)
The present work identifies the social representations regarding burnout in pastors of the Independent Presbyterian Church of Brazil through the use of the Discourse of the collective subject. The research starts from a brief description of stress and burnout, then relates Burnout Syndrome to pastors, and ultimately characterizes the pastor profession. The study reached the goal and identified such social representations as well as pointing out supposedly relevant differences in the variables: gender, position, teamwork or alone and time of profession. The qualitative analysis of the discourses was made through the discourse method of the collective subject, with identification of key expressions, central ideas and categorization, which resulted in 11 categories that originated the collective discourses. Then the categories were grouped into macrocategories related to each dimension of Burnout Syndrome. The quantitative analysis was made as descriptive statistics with distribution of subjects (), percentage frequencies, means and standard deviations in each of the categories

The International Labour organization qualified teaching activity as high risk, ranking it as the second professional category porting occupational diseases. This situation can be explained by teachers working conditions, which require the mobilization of physical, cognitive and affective capacities, that generating wear in many aspects of their integrality, including their mental health. The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation of Burnout Syndrome and Depression among high school teachers of state public schools in Juiz de Fora – MG. It was carried out a cross-sectional, exploratory-descriptive, quantitative and qualitative study. The instruments used were MBI-ED (Maslach Burnout Inventory-Educators Survey) and BDI (Beck Depression Inventory), as well as a semi-structured interview and a socio-demographic questionnaire. For data analysis we used Spearman Correlation, descriptive statistical method and Bardin Content Analysis. The results showed a moderate positive correlation between Exhaustion and Depression; a positive and weak correlation between Depersonalization and Depression and finally, a moderate correlation with negative direction between Personal accomplishment and Depression. The results corroborates in parts of literature findings and provides evidence of high levels of stress among teachers. This population needs attention, since the consequences of teachers burnout are not only manifested on personal-professional field, but also on the school organization and on relationship with students.

Síndrome de Burnout em Professores de Educação Física das Escolas Estaduais do Ensino Médio da Cidade de Pelotas/RS / Syndrome of Burnout in physical education teachers

Silva, Marta Solange Streicher Janelli da 30 March 2010 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2014-08-20T13:49:15Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Marta Janelli da Silva.pdf: 678815 bytes, checksum: dbb3497c63f9109d6269902fd4d5e921 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-03-30 / This study is about a qualitative and quantitative study which shows the results obtained in the investigation which aimed to investigate Burnout syndrome, which is the relationship between working conditions and the falling ill of teachers due to poor working qualities. This research was devoted to 26 Physical Education teachers in public State schools in the city of Pelotas RS. The goal was verifying the working conditions through the testimony of the subjects involved in the research, and thus, enquiring work situations which contribute to the appearance of Burnout syndrome in these teachers. And also, this research tried to determine some features of the socio-demographic, occupational, and work-related personnel which may be associated to Burnout syndrome. The results obtained make reference to teachers-in-charge from secondary school, where the scope is mainly constituted by adults and teenagers from both the morning and the evening shifts. The instruments of investigation used were: Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), plus a semi-structured interview, which was applied to many teachers who presented features of Burnout. Obtained data have shown socio-demographic, occupational, working hours per week at school, gender, and professional formation. The results showed that three teachers presented high level of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization associated to low professional accomplishment, which characterize Burnout syndrome. By verifying the teachers‟ testimonies, other nuances were noted, not less important when it comes to working conditions as the importance of encouraging a debate about the role and working conditions of teachers of Physical Education, because the workload of teachers is a factor that interferes negatively on health and ultimately reflects in their family and social relationships.

Le burn out des personnels de santé : Le cas de la prise en charge de la maladie d'Alzheimer / Careproviders' Burnout : The example of Alzheimer's disease management

Zawieja, Philippe 09 December 2014 (has links)
This thesis, using data collected from 2,602 professional caregivers of patients with Alzheimer's disease, explores the relationship between burnout and identity. Articulating psychoanalysis and sociology, this research shows that burnout, while affecting many aspects of the caregiver's identity, is only one of the possible fates of a variety of fatigue entities, that are sometimes specific to alzheimerology. This research draws up a typology of these fatigue entities. It highlights the presence, in this occupational group, of a latent, sacrificial ideology able of activating mechanisms and processes related to moral narcissism, by altering elements from the organizational context in suffering, whose paradoxical dual effect leads to strengthen the sacrificial position precisely to make it more tolerable. By the way, to describe this cycle fatigue linking psychological impact and group identity, this thesis suggests the concept of exhaustopoiesis, defined as a subjective and integrative process of feeling, appropriating, deviating and rebuilding fatigue– arising from which burnout is set up as a socially addressed part of the identity.

BURNOUT DOCENTE NO TRABALHO COM A INCLUSÃO DE ALUNOS COM NECESSIDADES EDUCACIONAIS ESPECIAIS / A Teacher Burnout in the work with the inclusion of students with

Barasuol, Evandir Bueno 30 June 2004 (has links)
This study is about a research of teachers background of the program of Specialization- Master s Course - Universidade Federal de Santa Maria - UFSM. It tried to identify the presence of a social phenomenon known as Burnout among 39 teachers that work with students with special educational necessities- SEN. These students are included in 9 schools of the common net of education from Três de Maio city of Rio Grande do Sul state, and they are proceeding from Hellen Keller special school. It is a research with a quantify approach using an instrument called MBI inventory- Maslach Burnout Inventory - from Maslach and Jackson, with an ED version - Educators Survey that helps to identify Burnout syndrome in teachers. It was made a theoretical research about the teachers background, the teacher identity that develops it work with SEN students and an ampler search about the origin and the ways that lead to Burnout. After the results analysis we could notice the syndrome in 21% of the teachers that participated in the research. We also noticed that 26% of these teachers are in a high level of emotional tiredness and that they are teachers of Math, Science, Geography, History, Arts, Physical Education and English subjects. These teachers are the most probable reached of Burnout. This result shows that there is an urgent necessity to revise an evaluate the process of teacher background and the importance of a less rational approach, less fragmented and more humanized for the curricula of education courses. Because of the complexity of the title, it urges to continue the present study. A deeper investigation about the feelings that pervade the teaching job with SEN students would make possible a better comprehension of their suffering and in result of this it would catch a glimpse of possibilities to intervene with strategies and resources to minimize this suffering that is affecting these professionals of education that develop their pedagogical activities in schools of the common net of education.

Buzzetti Bravo, Marcela January 2005 (has links)

The relationship between emotional intelligence and burnout of Police Constable Officers of the SAPS in the Western Cape

Dette, Edwina Judith January 2008 (has links)
Magister Commercii - MCom / This study was undertaken to determine the relationship between the emotional intelligence and burnout levels of police constables of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Western Cape. The field work of constables includes situations in which police officers need to make quick decisions involving life and death. Constables regularly have to deal with and are exposed to dangerous and violent situations (Plani, Bowley & Goosen, 2003). There are certain skills which a police officer needs to demonstrate. These skills include the ability to make decisions promptly and accurately; the ability to favourably interact with the community and to observe, retain and recall detailed information. However, these skills are affected when the police officer experiences feelings of stress and burnout (Goodman, 1990). One factor that might help police officers with these skills is emotional intelligence (Levert, Lucas & Ortlepp, 2000; Mayer & Salovey, 1997). Given the nature of policing, the potential benefit to the SAPS employing a police officer with high emotional intelligence to deal with burnout, would be the desired attribute. A simple random sample of N=108 police constables participated in this study. The Emotional Quotient-Inventory (EQ-i) and the Burnout Measure (BM) were administered. Data were analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 15.0. Cronbach reliability estimates for the EQ-i ranged from .87 to .90 and for the BM was .93. Positive and negative relationships were found between emotional intelligence dimensions: self-awareness (r=.-393, p>0.01), self-regulation (r=.-485, p>0.01), motivation (r=.-442, p>0.01), empathy (r=.-394, p>0.01) and social skills (r=.-383, p>0.01), [N=108] and police officers’ total burnout levels. The results indicated that the more self-aware, self-regulated, motivated, empathetic and socially inclined police officers were, the less likely police officers were to experience burnout. The results also indicated that the less self-aware, self-regulated, motivated, empathetic and socially inclined police officers were, they would be more likely to experience burnout. The exploratory factor analysis yielded a two factor structure for the individual on the emotional intelligence dimensions namely, self-awareness and empathy. A single factor was found for the manager consisting of the original five dimensions of the EQ-i. There was a moderate to strong negative correlation between total self-awareness (r=.-206), self-regulation (r=.-263), motivation (r=.-299), empathy (r=.-268) and social skills (r=.-311), [N=108, p>0.01] and police officers’ total burnout levels. This finding suggests that the more police officers viewed their manager to be self-aware, self-regulated, motivated, empathetic and socially inclined, the less likely they were to experience burn-out. The results of the multiple regression analysis show that police officers’ self-regulation appeared to be the only significant reliable predictor of burnout. The findings of this study provide an important contribution to expanding the body of literature and knowledge concerned with the emotionally intelligent constable which influences their burnout levels / South Africa

Approche psycho-physiologique de la blessure chez les sapeurs-pompiers / Psycho-physiological approach to injury in firefighters

Vaulerin, Jérôme 08 December 2016 (has links)
The aim of this doctoral work was to characterize the specific injuries of French firefighters, and to analyze influence of physical activity (PA), burnout, coping strategies, personality traits, and achievement goal in this injury occurrence. We hypothesize that injuries of French firefighters would be explained by both psychological and physiological factors. Through four experimental studies, the main results indicate that ankle sprain is the major injury in this population. Although SP missions are dangerous and varied, paradoxically injuries occur during the hours of PA practice in day guard. In addition, the total number of hours AP practiced per week is associated with injury. We also observed that the performances achieved in the Y-balance test, the "weight bearing lunge test" are predictive of ankle sprains. Although our investigations have highlighted that the injury was caused by psychological (e.g., burnout) and physiological factors, practicing sessions of AP is compulsory and required in this job, and paradoxically remains the largest provider of occupational incident
