Van der Hoven, Marianne 28 February 2004 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / The research was directed at setting up guidelines for the counsellor dealing with the adolescent in a multicultural environment. The supposition of the study was that the adolescent in a multicultural environment should be treated by the counsellor with cultural empathy, understanding and insight. This process should be free from stereotyping and prejudice. Guidelines were set up using a combination of Gestalt philosophical principles, existing literature and semi-structured interviews with cultural therapy experts. For the purpose of this study Thomas and Rothman's intervention research model was applied. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to gain information on the adolescent in therapy, which was combined with information found in literature in order to set up guidelines for counsellors. The researcher concludes that the counsellor dealing with the adolescent in a multicultural environment, has to possess sufficient cultural knowledge, cultural efficiency and cultural empathy to achieve a successful theurapeutic outcome. Guidelines for the counsellor who works with adolescents in a multicultural environment were set up successfully to bridge the current lack of knowledge in the field. / Social Work / M. Factors that affect theory-practice integration of student nurses at a selected campus of a nursing college in the Limpopo Province

Nxumalo, Suyekiye Jeanneth 06 1900 (has links)
The overall purpose of this study was to explore and describe the factors that affect theory-practice integration of student nurses at a selected campus of a nursing college in the Limpopo Province. Quantitative, descriptive, explorative and cross-sectional designs were used to accomplish the objectives of the study. Data collection was done using structured questionnaires with a few open-ended questions. The respondents were student nurses (n=106) and nurse educators (n=9). The findings revealed that failure of biological and natural sciences subjects, the use of traditional teaching strategies, inadequate use of simulation laboratory, inadequate clinical supervision, a shortage of resources, nature of the assessment process, extent of interest in the subject (s) taught, inability to draw clinical experiences during theoretical teaching, overpopulation of student nurses in the clinical area, negative attitude of ward staff and differences between the simulated skills and the actual clinical procedures in the ward affect theory-practice integration. / M.A. (Health Studies) / Health Studies

Design leadership and communication : characteristics and abilities of design leaders communicating design to non-designers during the fuzzy front end of new product development

Han, Koogin January 2014 (has links)
This research investigates the key characteristics of design leaders in the context of New Product Development (NPD) at the Fuzzy Front End (FFE) or early stage of this process. It particularly focuses on how design leaders communicate design to non-designers. It is often observed that designers struggle to communicate design to non-designers. Previous research has identified design leaders as competent design communicators. However, the definition and key characteristics of design leaders remain unclear. By reviewing the literature on leadership studies, design leadership and project leadership, it is evident that no single universal definition of leadership exists. The most common definition is that leaders apply their knowledge and skills to conduct activities and use their traits to influence other people’s actions. Leadership requires different characteristics for different tasks. To understand the characteristics of design leaders, triangulated research was employed at a real-life NPD project involving young designers and non-designers at early stages of NPD as part of the first study. All participants (N=32) were directly observed, interviewed in semi-structured interviews and administered with assistive questionnaires to compare design and non-design participants’ leadership and communication styles. The second study was in-depth, focusing on UK design leaders (N=11) through semi-structured interviews and based on deficiencies in leadership and communicating design, identified from the first study and the literature review. Comparative studies indicate that designers and design leaders vary their attitudes towards non-designers, motivation and communication style. This study highlights the key characteristics of design leaders: an epiphany by experiencing the entire NPD process, interest in the benefits of NPD stakeholders, a good understanding of design competency, reflectively flexible working attitude and strong, active listening. Thus, a conceptual model was formulated and evaluated, able to guide designers who wish to become design leaders and help to enhance design communication and relationships with non-designers.

So you think you can dance? a dança na TV como corpomídia da competência neoliberal / So you think you can dance? the dance on TV as bodymidia of the neoliberal competence

The images displayed configure a discourse which celebrates a neoliberal competence. According to such discourse, competitions and entertainment transform the dancing body in a midiatic product, which strongly bonds with the so-called selective auditions. We problematize this kind of presence of the dance on TV with the theoretical proposal of Competent Discourse (CHAUÍ, 2014, 1981) and we read it from the Theory Bodymedia (KATZ & GREINER, 2015, 2005). Our hypothesis is that the programs that compose such televisual segment transform themselves into the bodymedia of the fundamental values of neoliberalism. The titles of many of them already show the mediatic relations and communication ties with the neoliberal values, engineered as competent discourses on competence which formulate, biopolitically, the competent body that needs to show their competencies publicly. We emphasize the program and North American franchise So You Think You Can Dance (Fox 2005-2015), known by the acronym SYTYCD, which also composes our research object. This program produced some authorized replications by spreading throughout the world a "so-you-think" way of making the body dance. One of them is a franchisee program in Portuguese, Achas Que Sabes Dançar?(SIC, 2010, 2015). In Brazil, it is broadcast as a non-franchised and controversial version called Se Ela Dança, Eu Danço (SBT, 2011, 2011) .The research suggests that publicly showing 'selective auditions', which were before situations relegated to backstage, made them become biopolitical dispositives (FOUCAULT, M.; AGAMBEN, G.; ESPOSITO, R.; FREIRE FILHO, J.; PRADO, J. L.A.) of the model of the competent body to dance , in which competence is associated with competition. The association between competent and winner becomes an abyssal line (SANTOS, B. S.) of invisibility production for all the bodies which do not fit in the logic of new capitalism (SENNETT, R.) and artist capitalism (LIPOVETSKY, G. & SERROY, J.). The objective is to critically reflect upom the reach of the discourse of the dancing body, that mediatizes itself and it engenders in society / Na televisão do século XXI, a dança tem sido veiculada em programas competitivos do gênero Reality Show para novos talentos. Destaca-se o programa/franquia norteamericano So You Think You Can Dance (Fox, 2005-2015), cuja sigla é SYTYCD e que compõe nosso objeto de pesquisa.

Product interventions in the financial market : Do limitations and prohibitions lead to stronger investor protection for retail clients?

Blomdahl, Eric January 2018 (has links)
