Crianças e telenovelas: diálogos silenciados / Children and soap operas: neglected dialogues

Katia de Souza e Almeida Bizzo 28 October 2009 (has links)

Relational Maintenance Strategies, Positivity, and Constructive Financial Conversations in Romantic, Committed Partnerships

Bourdeaux, Renee Jeneanne January 2016 (has links)
Although a large body of research on financial management in marriages and conflict/divorce as outcomes of financial problems exists, the topic of how individuals describe the communicative processes leading to positive outcomes regarding financial conversations remains understudied. Because financial conversations emerge as a strong “tug-of-war” opponent to the successful partnership couples hope to achieve, this study sought to understand how romantic pairs talk about money in ways that lead to positive results. By using an interpretive approach, this study used online, open-ended survey questions to gather stories to better understand how married couples effectively discuss finances. The participant stories explained how individuals in committed romantic partnerships described successful conversations they had with their partner about money. The data were thematically coded using Spradley’s (1979) taxonomic coding categories. The stories from the 100 participants revealed specific strategies that couples used during positive financial conversations that led to positive relational outcomes. This study first reveals a taxonomy of tactics that individuals use in positive conversations about finances. Second, this study supports and offers new contributions to relational maintenance literature (Canary & Stafford, 1992; Stafford, 2011; Stafford & Canary, 1991; Stafford et al., 2000) regarding how maintenance strategies are used when talking about money. Finally, this study offers a taxonomy of reported relational outcomes for couples who have positive financial conversations. The knowledge gained from this study will be helpful to all couples who wish to positively navigate financial matters.

Nurses' experiences of conversations with patients about sexual health: a qualitative literature review.

Åstrand Raij, Sofia, Henerius, Elsa January 2022 (has links)
Title: Nurses' experiences of conversations with patients about sexual health: a qualitative literature review. Background: Sexual health and sexuality are included in all dimensions of health and can be affected by illness, dysfunction and injury. Conversations about patients' sexual health and sexuality were part of the professional role of nurses. Despite this, it emerged that conversations about sexual health were not conducted by the nurses, which led to holistic nursing with clear shortcomings. Aim: The aim was to describe nurses' experiences of talking about sexual health with adult patients in inpatient care.Method: The research design in this qualitative literature review has an inductive approach. The analysis was carried out through five steps (Friberg, 2017). Results: Four main categories emerged with twelve subcategories; When the conversation arises (the value of the conversation for care, knowledge and experience, relationship between nurse and patient), Uncertainty about responsibility (nurse's initiative to talk, patient's initiative to talk, the interprofessional team), Nurse's prejudices and values (professional values, personal values, the nurse's priorities, own power in the care relationship) and The impact of the environment (organization and system and society's norms). Conclusion: Nurses need improved knowledge, experience and training to initiate conversations about sexual health and sexuality with patients. Future research needs to examine what improvement measures are required to implement sexual health conversations in clinical work. Keywords: conversations, experiences, nurses, patients, sexual health, sexuality.

“Kan du berätta hur du tänker” : En kvalitativ studie av lågstadielärares användning av talk moves i matematikundervisningen / ”Can you share your thoughts” : A qualitative study of primary school teachers’ use of talk moves in mathematic education

Jashari, Sadije, Nilsson, Victoria January 2023 (has links)
The aim of the present study is to deepen the knowledge of which talk moves 1-3 teachers use in mathematics teaching. The data collection methods used are classroom observations followed by semi-structured interviews with the class teachers. The results of the study shows that the teachers unconsciously use talk moves in their teaching. We also discovered a new talk move which we term teacher-repeating-adding on. The conclusion of the study is that there seems to be a conflict between the teachers' ambition to carry out mathematical conversations and a pressure of time that the students need to finish their work in the mathematics book.

Gudmundsson, Mimmi, Torres, Ailin January 2024 (has links)
The study aims to explore whether gender stereotypes are reflected, questioned, or redefined in the podcast medium. The research question specifically investigates differences in these patterns between male and female participants and examines the language used to express them. The study is theoretically grounded in Kerstin Nordenstam’s (1990), Catrin Norrby’s (2014) and Deborah Tannen’s (2013) observations regarding gender differences in conversation topics and styles. The research involves conducting a conversational analysis to explore gender stereotypical conversational patterns on six of Sweden's prominent podcast episodes; Alex och Sigges podcast, Aldrig ensam, Wahlgren & Wistam, 30's in the City, Kafferepet and Helvetet med Walden och Parisa. It involved a dual-level approach, initially a broad analysis was conducted of short segments from all six episodes. Subsequently, a more in-depth examination was carried out on two specific episodes, involving the analysis of more extensive portions of each conversation. The analysis reveals that gender stereotypes emerge in podcasts through topic choices, support signals, overlapping speech and word distribution. For instance, women often focus on personal relationships and use more support signals, while men exhibit more dominance, especially in overlapping speech. The analysis of word distribution also confirms previous research on longer male utterances. Conclusions are drawn regarding how these patterns are reinforced by the podcast's structure and content choices. The results provide insights into gender related conversational patterns. Scientifically, the study fills a gap by applying previous theories to the modern podcast medium, opening new avenues for research on gender and communication. Societally, the study highlights how these patterns contribute to maintaining gender norms and specific expectations.

Male and Female Usage of Minimal Responses : A Comparison Between Same-sex and Mixed-sex, Formal and Informal, and Pair and Group Conversations

Almasri, Aaisha January 2023 (has links)
This essay investigates how the usage of minimal responses differs between men and women in different situations. There are three factors included in the analysis, gender of the interlocutor, formality, and the number of participants in the conversations. For each factor, the frequency and function of minimal responses are investigated. Eleven conversations are collected from the Santa Barbara Corpus to attain this aim. The method conducted to analyse the conversations is divided into two parts. The first part is to count the minimal responses used and calculate the frequency of usage for each speaker in all the conversations. The second part is a close analysis of the function of the minimal responses used by noticing whether they are disruptive or supportive. The results show that women use minimal responses at a higher frequency compared to men except in informal conversations. Also, there is no significant difference in the function of minimal responses between men and women. However, the minimal responses used in the informal conversations seem more disruptive. In pair and group conversations minimal responses can be used disruptively. However, if one considers the context, it seems that minimal responses in group conversations are collaborative, despite being disruptive.

“Just as Scared as I Am”: Daughters’ Perspectives of the Impact of the Overturning of Roe v. Wade on Mother-Daughter Reproductive Conversations

Smith, Casadie 01 August 2023 (has links) (PDF)
Existing literature has identified mothers as the primary reproductive educators of their daughters and has determined mother-daughter conversations about reproduction to be an indicator of daughters’ sexual and reproductive behaviors. The overturning of Roe v. Wade on June 24, 2022, had an immediate impact on the reproductive lives of many people, including daughters. Through one-on-one interviews with 10 daughters, this qualitative study identifies three changes in mother-daughter reproductive conversations that were influenced by the overturning of Roe v. Wade: (a) The initiation of conversations, (b) the topics of conversations, and (c) the tone of these conversations. The results of this thesis not only provide initial insight into how daughters felt that their conversations with their mothers about reproductive issues changed in the wake of this monumental event, but also have the potential to contribute to a more nuanced understanding of the larger impact of the event itself.

Jensen, Jenny January 2017 (has links)
Background: Individuals with bipolar disorder are more likely than others to be affected by metabolic syndrome which is why monitoring for metabolic anomalies and health conversations is part of treatment and can reduce the risk. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to shed light on experiences of the health conversation and its meaning for the wellbeing for individuals with bipolar disorder as part of the metabolic monitoring. Method: The study was conducted as a qualitative study with 8 individuals taking part in interviews and qualitative content analysis was used to process the data. Results: The results show that health conversations as part of metabolic monitoring can provide a sense of security taking into account both the physical and mental health which proves to be meaningful to the sense of wellbeing. To accommodate individual needs proves to be important and meaningful and individuals with bipolar disorder have both awareness and knowledge concerning the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Two themes emerged from the analysis: Highlighting individual needs and Knowledge increases awareness. Conclusion: Focus should be on strengthening the sense of security contributed by metabolic monitoring and health conversations and taking into account the needs and knowledge of each individual and with respect encourage and strengthen the experience of health and wellbeing. We need to put trust into the patients’ ability and knowledge and work together towards a healthier lifestyle thus supporting both the physical and mental wellbeing.
