Réactions multicomposants et applications : synthèse de cyclopent[b]indoles et pyrrolo[1,2-a]indoles : synthèse diastéréosélective de lignanes tétrahydrofuraniques trisubstitués

Mondière, Aurélie 15 October 2010 (has links) (PDF)

The iron crafts of the Swahili from the perspective of historical semantics

Klein-Arendt, Reinhard 09 August 2012 (has links) (PDF)
To this day research in pre-colonial Swahili history has only taken casual notice of the role of Swahili crafts. This applies in particular to blacksmithing and iron smelting. Probably iron smelting were among the driving factors of cultural contact and of the development of economical structures on the Swahili Coast. Kusimba postulates that metallurgy played an important role for cultural change within Swahili polities. Foreign trade in iron products to other parts of the Indian Ocean fostered local exchange systems that linked the East African settlements on the Coast to each other and the interior (1996:387). In this article the potential of linguistic research on iron crafts for Swahili historiography will be demonstrated, though it has to be emphasised that linguistic evidence is as of yet too scarce to allow more than preliminary results. Two steps are deemed necessary to achieve this aim. In a first step the scientific contributions by historical linguistics, history, and archaeology in regard to Swahili iron working will be reviewed. In a second step it will be demonstrated that historical semantics, together with language geography can make a significant contribution to this discussion. More than anything else, it is the semantic aspect of language that is capable of revealing pre-colonial cultural change in Africa. With comparative phonological and morphological methods historical genetic relationships within a given language family can be discovered.

Evaluation Of Products Through The Concept Of National Design: A Case Study On Art Decor Magazine

Kaygan, Harun 01 August 2006 (has links) (PDF)
This study examines the ways in which the concept of &#039 / national design&#039 / informs evaluation of products and their designers, through the example of the field of industrial design in Turkey and the recently influential design magazine Art+Decor. For this purpose, first of all, &#039 / evaluation&#039 / is analyzed as a means in which meanings are imposed on products, and as a tool in struggles for positions and status within the field of industrial design. Then, the role of &#039 / nationality&#039 / in such a function of evaluation is investigated. Finally, a case study is provided, in which the employment of the concept of &#039 / Turkish design&#039 / in evaluation of products and designers is analyzed within the texts published in Art+Decor magazine between 2003 and 2005.

Material Characterization Of The Late 12th-13th Century Byzantine Ceramics From Kusadasi Kadikalesi/anaia

Kirmizi, Burcu 01 January 2012 (has links) (PDF)
This study investigates the petrographical and chemical characteristics of a group of Zeuxippus Ware Related Ceramics dating to the late 12th-13th centuries from Kusadasi Kadikalesi/Anaia. Kadikalesi was a Byzantine fortress at the coast of Aegean Sea. It was also a significant commercial port and an episcopacy center during the 13th century. In this study, visual classifications of the ceramics were carried out based on their stylistic properties. Then, ceramic samples were investigated by several methods including mineralogical, micromorphological, chemical (SEM-EDX, ICP-OES, ICP-MS) and Raman Spectrometry techniques and further evaluated by statistical analyses. Bodies are found to be rich in SiO2 and Al2O3 while relatively high amounts of Fe2O3 measured, agree well with their reddish bodies. These bodies mostly display micaceous matrix with a relatively low degree of vitrification. Cluster analysis performed among thirty selected samples, points out the presence of two main groups. Observed slip layers are also found to be rich in SiO2 and Al2O3 contents and exhibit various types of crystalline and/or vitreous matrix. Glazes are found to be high lead glazes processed at or below. The glazes are found to be high lead glazes processed at or below 700&deg / C as confirmed by SEM-EDX and Raman spectrometry investigations. Iron compounds are the major coloring agents for most of the glazes analyzed regardless of their observed colors. Presence of Raman peaks in some yellow glazes which may be assigned to a solid solution of Naples yellow type of pigment is significant since its use in the Byzantine period as a glaze pigment has been scarcely reported before.

Apokalypsskåpet : Förberedelsen för undergången / Apacolypse cabinet : Preparation for the Apocalypse

Vikström, Anton January 1900 (has links)
Abstract     We humans are hard on our planet, how long will it take before Mother Nature bites back and call on the Apocalypse, to reset the poisoned earth and begin anew. My project is largely about criticism of how we live today in the western world, how I with an arts and crafts, criticize an unsustainable lifestyle. I have with an exciting combination of popular culture, craftsmanship and the critical design portrayed the Apocalypse with a storage cabinet.

Rookwood architectural faience tile

Lippincott, Richard Hysler January 1993 (has links)
The Rookwood Pottery Company was one of the most outstanding American pottery producers in the early 20th century. Rookwood produced a line of significant architectural facing tiles, unlike anything else produced in the Arts and Crafts tile industry. This thesis is an assimilation of all the primary product. Rookwood's catalogues, commissions, and artisans are discussed to illustrate the design and production significance Rookwood's product. The analysis will be valuable for the documentation and identification of tile installations produced by the Rookwood Pottery Company from 1903-1931. / Department of Architecture

An Examination Of Possible Contributions Of New Media Terms And Concepts To The Field Of Product Design

Akin, Atif Ahmet 01 September 2005 (has links) (PDF)
New media offer new ways for communication and production. This study aims to explore possible outcomes of the review of the new media literature for a contribution to the field of product design. Examining new media in a descriptive manner, the study presents its basic principles and characteristics. Relevant parts of new media and product design literature are reviewed in order to locate possible connections and/or exchanges between major concepts used in these fields. The two focal points of the study are the transformations that have taken place in (1) userproduct communication and (2) design and production media, resulting from the emergence of new media technologies.
