Digital Business Strategising in the context of Regulatory Uncertainty - the case of a Financial Services Provider in South Africa

Brown, Nancy 04 January 2021 (has links)
With the rise of digital technologies that have disrupted standard business models and created a new level of competition in the market, the need for digital business strategising that shapes the future of organisations and achieves digital transformation is high on the agenda of most firms. The added complexity of uncertainty in the regulatory environment regarding financial products and services, regulation of digital platforms and ongoing financial regulatory changes based on macro-economic turbulence, makes for a complex external environment within which businesses need to effectively compete and achieve performance targets. A qualitative, interpretive case study of a South African based global organisation is undertaken to explore and understand how organisations navigate the macro-environmental landscape while forging a digitally transformed future. The research uses thematic analysis to extract themes in the data collected from both IT and business leaders as they navigate the path of transitioning from traditional to digital business models in the context of regulatory uncertainty. The study provides insight into what is required for firms to achieve digital transformation, and demonstrates the influence that regulatory uncertainty has on the digital business strategising process of a firm. A conceptual model is developed that reflects the key drivers of digital transformation to achieve digital maturity and competitive advantage, and also represents the external influencing factors of regulatory uncertainty. The findings reveal a shift to a more tactical, combined top-down, bottom-up strategising practice with reliance on dynamic capabilities, strong leadership and innovation to overcome challenges of regulatory uncertainty.

Inclusion numérique en contexte d’établissements médico-sociaux / Digital inclusion in context of medico-social institutions

Le Chene, Véronique 05 November 2019 (has links)
The ideal of inclusive society is based on principles of justice and social cohesion. It translates into a desire to include people at risk of poverty and exclusion, to reduce social inequalities and to encourage participation in the life of society. Faced with social inequalities, specific policies are implemented for people with disabilities. They translate into a principle of widespread accessibility to employment, education, built, transport, leisure, culture, digital technologies, etc. In our society where the uses of digital technologies appear to be the cure for all social problems (Proulx, 1990), what benefits can people with disabilities derive from the uses of these technologies? To answer this question, I went to investigate people welcomed in medico-social institutions in Brittany. I accompanied their use of digital technologies and in an ethno-methodological approach (Lapassade, 2000) and ecological of activity (Denis, 2009), I analyzed these uses as a social construct (Jouët, 2000). In this research we will see how the appropriation of digital technologies by people with intellectual disabilities or mental disorders transforms the negative representations they have of themselves and brings out a power to act with digital technologies that participate in their emancipation.

Du « grand dialogue » au quotidien numérique : des stratégies de communication à la Poste / From “Grand Dialogue” to digital daily technology : communications strategies in the French Post Office Company

Blanc, Emilie 23 September 2016 (has links)
This text deals with digital literacy at the French Post Office Company. As the firm worried about stress at work, a “Grand dialogue” was organized to estimate this level and take actions against it. At the same time, using this corporate communication, the company settled the “Lean management” to change the organization. On this occasion, that was an opportunity for a social worker to join a working group and study with an action-research the consequences for workers on their mental suffering.Besides after considering the links between psychological risks and digital literacy, he showed that it was not true for the postal workers. Indeed the actions that had been put in place in the company were effective help and much more, that the communication of organisations is a protection against psychological risks and social exclusion. However the action-research shows that the social workers were actually suffering from psychological risks and then they had set up strategies by using technologies to get better.

Technologies numériques et nouvelles pédagogies au Sénégal / Digital technologies and new pedagogies in the Senegal

Deme, Oumou Salam 30 September 2016 (has links)
Technological devices have reached such a growth thanks to easy access to information. Therefore citizen operating capacity of information needs to be developed. Problematic questions that arise can be summarized along five lines: Do Digital technologies support a different (another) perception of the teaching / learning in Senegal? The project for settling multimedia rooms may bring students to a more frequent use for research on internet (websites)? Do new types of learning push students to use more frequently ict to increase their performance while acquiring knowledge on behavior changes in the sciences and in the context of the efficiency of the learning? Is learning becoming more efficient? Do technological innovations bring new skills in learners? Our research is based on the results of surveys of 146 students in high school and fifty teachers from the Dakar region who are using computer, tablet or mobile phone as support for teaching / learning. To understand their perceptions with the contribution of different technologies, we will use their answers to cinq axes : : Use of a computer or PC , tablet or other online devices; interest of the use of digital technologies for teaching / learning; the places of use of digital technologies and at last, use of online courses both for learners and teachers and correspondence with teachers. These results will be subject to a qualitative analysis of the responses that will inform us about the contributions of digital technologies in the types of learning. Quantitative survey data will be treated with the Sphinx and EXCEL software.

Family Businesses Long-term Orientation – the Effect on their Digital Transformation : A multiple-case study within traditional industries

Trauntschnig, Joakim, Hetz, David Oliver January 2020 (has links)
Digital technologies are disrupting firms of all sizes in all industries. This prompts firms to stipulate responses to the ongoing changes and challenges digitalization spawns. Especially family businesses, with their unique structural and behavioral characteristics and economic importance, in traditional industries must reinvent themselves and transform their business digitally to ensure longevity. Despite the recent increasing contributions of academia for the digital transformation phenomenon, attention for specific organizational forms, in particular family businesses is still scarce. A better understanding of how these organizations undergo a digital transformation is vital for family business adaptation and future survival. Therefore, this study emphasizes on the specific attribute of long-term orientation. Hence, the purpose of this study was to investigate family businesses’ long-term orientations impact their digital transformation process. For the intention to contribute to academia through theory building, we have chosen a qualitative, exploratory research design using a multiple case study of six selected family businesses. 14 semi-structured interviews with seven family managers and seven non-family managers were conducted to collect data. The results show that family businesses prepare a basis for their digital transformation through the influence of their long-term orientation. Building on our findings we developed a model of a digital foundation for family businesses endeavors in their digital transformation process to manage the three phases of digital transformation. This digital foundation as a capability affected by a family business long-term orientation impacts their digital transformation process in distinct ways.

Optimisation et personnalisation des parcours d'apprentissage à l'aide des technologies numériques / Optimization and personalization of learning paths with digital technologies

Roy, Didier 30 September 2015 (has links)
Since the "Plan Informatique Pour Tous" in 1985, digital technologies occupy an increasingly importance in education: digital textbooks, dynamic geometry software, learning games, e-learning, blended learning, MOOC, flipped classrooms, educational robotics, etc.The aim of our work is to show that some of these technologies can contribute to improve learning, boosting learning contents, emphasizing student motivation by proposing devices suitable for distance learning and personalizing learning paths. The stakes of these issues are important. The need to motivate students and personalize learning is more and more crucial. These are major assets to reduce dropout and promote equal opportunities. Objectives of our work before 2011:- Gamify contents to make them more motivating.- Visualize concepts by using digital objects.- Virtualize learning objects in order to reduce physical constraints to work methods, to overcome handling difficulties and disability situations.- Provide tools for interactivity, visualization, computer algebra and geometry for computer environments learning (distance learning platforms, software).- Provide tools for monitoring user activity in order to better track their progress, to follow them with precision, to making them more autonomous.- Experiment with objects both digital and tangible such as robots, to assess their impact in learning.- Build new textbooks by accompanying them with digital devices. This work was continued in recent and more research-driven work. Objectives of our work from 2011:- Optimize and personalize learning by using artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms.- Use tangible objects such as robots, that students can manipulate and program, to approach learning differently to provide concrete environment to build new concepts.

Exploring the role of digital technologies for social connectedness, outcomes and experiences with the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) community: A transformative mixed methods research study

Antonio, Marcy 04 October 2021 (has links)
Prior to the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) were already experiencing social isolation due to the complex intersection of symptoms, and perceptions towards the illness. COPD is a chronic lung illness characterized by progressive shortness of breath, and decreasing lung function, with influenza and other respiratory illnesses more likely to have fatal consequences for this population. Societal beliefs and assumptions around behavioural risk factors, and in particular smoking, contribute to perceptions that COPD diagnosis, outcomes and experiences are self-inflicted and an individual responsibility. This is a perspective that fails to take into the account the complex contextual factors of the social determinants of health, where structural inequities result in higher smoking rates among populations with lower socioeconomic status. Further, these underlying societal values may compound the isolation experienced with COPD in which ongoing stigma towards the illness discourages people from identifying with a COPD diagnosis. The lack of identity may discourage developing a community where people can share experiences and strategies in living with COPD, and form a collective group that can advocate for change. Digital technologies (DTs), such as Facebook and Zoom offer new avenues to support social connectedness. However, little focus has been given on how people with COPD may (or may not) be using DTs to support their illness. This study explored the role DTs could serve in addressing social connectedness and experiences and outcomes for the COPD community. The study was informed by Mertens (2003, 2007) transformative approach where the knowledge of people living with COPD was prioritized in finding out what DTs they may be using to maintain social connectedness and to support their illness. The three stage mixed methods research design consisted of interviews, patient-reported outcome measures, patient-reported experience measures and a DT survey. Bazeley's (2018) approach was used to guide the integrative mixed analysis on data collected across the three stages. The overall findings were: 1) Participants’ experiences in living with COPD had uniquely prepared them for the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was the community that lacked capacity; 2) Dominant discourse around technology may be creating further harms to the COPD population that extend beyond the digital world; 3) Current digital health monitoring strategies for other chronic illnesses do not fully translate to the interests and needs for people living with COPD; 4) People living with COPD are using DTs, but prefer to keep their virtual world separate from their illness world; and 5) Considerations for DTs for COPD should move beyond managing outcomes, and include supporting experiences of living. Conducted between December 2018 and July 2020, and concurrent with the COVID-19 pandemic, the study demonstrated even greater importance with the onset of the pandemic in understanding how DTs may support social connectedness for people living with life-limiting chronic lung conditions. / Graduate / 2022-02-07
