I läroplanen för gymnasieskolan framgår det att undervisningen bör utgå ifrån elevernas tidigare erfarenheter och intressen. Film och media har idag blivit ett av ungdomars största intressen vilket gör att de får sina flesta musikaliska upplevelser från media. Narrativ mediemusik påverkar åskådaren på ett omedvetet plan och behöver därav analyseras aktivt. Musik i samspel med rörlig bild kan få publiken att tolka rollfigurers karaktärsdrag i film på olika sätt. Syftet med den här studien är att få djupare kunskap om hur musik och andra uttrycksmedel används för att beskriva en karaktär i en animerad film. Tidigare forskning visar att liksom i samhället har synen på kvinnans roll ändrats i Disneys animerade filmer. Arbetet fokuserar på tre scener från Disneys animerade filmer där en prinsessa är en huvudkaraktär. De analyserade karaktärer är Snövit från filmen Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Mulan från filmen Mulan (1998) och Merida från filmen Brave (2012). Analysen görs med hjälp av Chions (1994) analysmetod som består av masking, narrativanalys och jämförelseanalys. Resultatet visar på att det är ett samspel mellan olika faktorer som skapar en uppfattning om karaktären. Studien resulterar i åtta faktorer som påverkar åskådarens upplevelse av prinsessorna: kroppsspråk/utseende, sång/tal, Mickey-Mousing, musik i relation till sången, puls och tempo, dynamik, andra ljud samt kamerans perspektiv. Slutligen diskuteras hur filmmusik praktiskt kan appliceras i musikundervisning i förhållande till gymnasiets läroplaner för musikämnen.

This study examines images based on a semiotic text analysis as a symbol of Disney Princess Elsa from Frozen 2 and Cinderella. The study examines how the representation of the Disney princess is made on the basis of gender, sexuality and race. The purpose of the study is to contribute knowledge about how the representation of the Disney princess in popular culture may have changed and, in any case, to investigate why. The study concludes that the representation of the Disney princess on one side has changed based on gender and sexuality, but the other has not changed as much when it comes to the representation of race and female whiteness.

This diploma thesis analyses and compares two categories of Disney fairy tale films. On one side we have the animated films from the 20th century, on the other side their modern live action remakes. This thesis focuses on the portrayal of gender and social interactions, and examines whether there has been any change in these aspects from a feminist perspective. Fairy tales play a significant role in gender socialization of children and are a reflection of the contemporary societal ideals of femininity and masculinity. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces the concept of gender and how it is learned, how feminism views gender and society, and the development of the feminist movement. It explores fairy tales, their role as socialization agents and the theory of feminist critique of fairy tales. It also focuses on film adaptations of fairy tales and more specifically on Disney studio and the criticism of it. The examined films were subjected to analysis based on the method of grounded theory. During the research a significant advancement was discovered in the portrayal of female and male heroes, romantic love, patriarchal society in fairy tale worlds and in the representation of race and sexual minorities.

In the last decade Video on Demand (VOD) services are becoming the centre of audiovisual entertainment consumption. American company Netflix is currently the biggest player on the market. Thanks to growing base of viewers it has become big competitor even for big hollywood studios. Those studios don't want to lose the track in this new, popular segment of on-line entertainment, therefore they are also coming out with their own platforms. Viewer's habits on VOD services has many specifics, for example in ways of consumption or in choosing the content. The subject of this thesis is to capture allround behaviour of czech user on VOD platforms.

This presentation shares qualitative research on how elementary pre-service teachers’ social science literacies and curricular experiences have been constructed, influenced, and informed by popular-culture, bounded ritual spaces (Moore, 1980), such as Walt Disney World’s EPCOT. Implications for pre-service teacher reflection, elementary social studies education, and critical pedagogy are discussed.

The Disneyprincesses-phenomenon is wide known in the world today and Disney has also received a lot of criticism for their representation of gender and gender roles in their movies. In the earlier eras the princesses and princes were represented with a lot of traditional stereotypes. Because the target group for Disney often is kids and families it’s likely that this can influence kids and affect their behaviors to others and also their interpretation on gender roles in the society. The aim for this study is to find out to which extent Disney’s latest princessmovie, Raya and the last dragon, corresponds to the stereotypical gender representations in Disney’s previous princess movies that previous research has identified. The study also aims to create an understanding of how gender is represented in Disney’s latest princess movie and to which extent it differs from earlier movies. By using several previous studies and relevant theories, like the representation theory, social role theory and gender theories, these questions are answered and discussed. Despite that earlier research has identified a lot of differences in Disney’s representation of gender and some researchers mean that the representation in the movies does not correspond to the social reality that we live in, in Raya and the last dragon several of these representations have improved and come a long way if we compare to the earlier movies and has also improved significantly from the later movies.

Då Disney är en storproducent inom barnkultur kan det vara av intresse att undersöka hur de har framställt karaktärer i sina filmer. Studien fokuserar specifikt på hur genus och kön framställs i två nutida Disneyfilmer då filmerna ger en kontemporär bild på Disneys syn på genus och kön. Studiens fokus är på framställningen av huvud- och bikaraktär i filmerna Trassel och Röjar-Ralf. Studien är kvalitativ och textanalys används som metod för analysen av filmerna. Begreppet den heterosexuella matrisen från Judith Butlers performativa genusteori används i analysen av karaktärerna. Ytterligare används Nikolajevas schema om stereotypa kvinnliga respektive manliga egenskaper för att kategorisera och synliggöra hur karaktärerna är normativa och ickenormativa. Resultaten visar på att karaktärerna upprätthåller de heteronormativa förväntningarna av utseende och sexualitet men har både kvinnliga och manliga egenskaper oberoende av kön. Vidare visar resultaten att karaktärerna i Trassel utvecklas från att vara mer normativa till att vara mer icke-normativa medans i Röjar-Ralf så är de redan från början mer icke-normativa.

One way that children explore concepts of gender is through make-believe and performative play. One of the most prevalent presentations of gender that is packaged for children's play is the Disney Princess brand. In 2007 the Walt Disney Princess campaign profited over four billion dollars and expanded to include over 25,000 items for sale. Princess paraphernalia reflects a change in the way that young girls (ages 3-5) engage in imaginary play by creating a whole new paradigm of thought. As these girls project themselves into the role of a certain Princess, typical play transforms into a consumer based theatrical experience. Girls not only identify with the ideas of playing princess, but of being a Princess as well. Judith Butler examines gender as consisting of performative “acts” that are stylized, repeated, and public. Gender identity usually includes aligning one's self with socially accepted definitions of male or female. Using Butler's idea's about gender performance, this thesis looks closely at the Disney Princess brand and how it contributes to the idea of a gender identity through films, live performances at Disneyland, and merchandise designed for enhancing play. As media and consumerism plays an increasingly large role in children's lives, careful attention must be made to the influence of such brands, especially as the Princesses become defining models of the word female.

Forskning kring tjock representation är knapp och en aspekt som har negligerats i debatter kring inkluderande och mångfald. Syftet med denna uppsats är därför att undersöka hur vår samtid, i en engelskspråkig kontext, ser på tjockhet i film och tv. Detta utforskas genom fallstudien Reflect, en animerad kortfilm från 2022. Fallstudien är vald då Reflect omskrivs i media som Disneys första film med en tjock huvudkaraktär. Uppsatsen ämnar besvara hur Disney har porträtterat och hanterat den tjocka huvudkaraktären i Reflect, samt hur denna kortfilm har mottagits och vilka diskussioner som den har väckt. Detta görs genom att närläsa filmen samt analysera dess mottagande på filmdatabaser, sociala medier och i massmedia. Resultaten diskuteras med hjälp av teorier inom representation, socialkonstruktionism, fat studies och mottagandeteori. Resultaten visar att filmen porträtterar huvudkaraktären som en tjock karaktär vars kroppsstorlek gör att hon sticker ut. Detta leder till självtvivel som hon övervinner på ett självständigt sätt. Resultaten visar vidare att mottagandet både är positivt och negativt och att diskussioner har väckts kring sättet som Disney väljer att fokusera på en tjock karaktär.
