Αραβανής, Θεοφάνης 31 May 2012 (has links)
This degree thesis deals with the study, the analysis and the manufacture of a new topology that will be used for the interconnection of small photovoltaic (PV) generators with the electric network of urban regions. This work was conducted in the Laboratory of Electromechanical Energy Conversion, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, School of Engineering, University of Patras. The goal of the present thesis is to contribute in the sector of Dispersed Power Generation PV systems, with the development of an electronic device that will be used for the interconnection of small photovoltaic (PV) generators with the low voltage electric network. Specifically, a high frequency current source Flyback inverter is investigated and manufactured, that will be suitable for “Alternative Current Photovoltaic Modules” (AC-PV Modules) applications. An AC-PV Module is the combination of a single PV module (whose power production varies under 300W) and a single-phase power electronic micro-inverter in a single electrical device. Special characteristics of the inverter are the simple power electronic circuit structure, having high reliability as an immediate consequence, the electrical isolation provided between the PV generator and the electric network, the high power factor and the high efficiency (reaching 94.25%) for a wide range of its power. Moreover, small volume and weight are particular characteristics, attributes very important considering its applications (incorporation in PV generators that will be placed in aspects or roofs of buildings). For this topology - whose theory is in the Ph.D. thesis of A. Ch. Kyritsis “Optimum Design of a High Frequency Singe - Phase Inverter for the Interconnection of Small Power PV Systems with the Low Voltage Network” developed - two different control techniques were investigated, leading to different operation modes (Discontinuous Conduction Mode - DCM, Boundary between Continuous and Discontinuous Mode - BCM) and ensuring alternative sinusoidal current, in phase with the electric network voltage. Simultaneously, their suitability is studied for different power levels. Moreover, the control circuits of the inverter were developed and an effective way of measuring the high - frequency switching currents of the inverter’s transformer is presented. Last but not least, the design of the whole system is completed in the laboratory, in order to carry out the experimental measurements required, to confirm and evaluate the studied theory.

Développement de vecteurs pharmaceutiques pour le relargage contrôlé de principes actifs / Pharmaceutical nanoparticles for the controlled delivery of drugs

Le Meur, Anne-Claire 18 December 2009 (has links)
Controlled release systems are attracting increasing interest because of their potential application in biomedical field. Indeed, such systems should enable to lower toxicity of medicines by targeting the therapeutic action and by limiting the concentration of drugs in the organism. In this research project, new nanoparticles have been developed for a thermosensitive control of drugs’ delivery. These particles consist of a polynorbornene core and a polyethylene oxide shell and are developed by dispersion ring opening metathesis polymerization. As a model drug, salicylic acid has been encapsulated in those core-shell materials. This multidisciplinary project is original for two reasons. On the one hand, the nature of the particle which enables to release the drug from 35-45°C. On the other hand, the encapsulation technique that has been chosen is the impregnation under supercritical carbon dioxide.

Optimisation des réseaux : réseau actif et flexible / Networks optimization : active and flexible network

Touré, Sellé 20 October 2014 (has links)
The Electric Power System is undergoing a lot of evolutions in recent years, including the energymarket deregulation and the increasing integration of Dispersed Generators (DG). Therefore, withinthe framework of Smart Grid concept, the New Information and Communication Technologies (NICT)provide new perspectives to manage and operate distribution networks. In this context, new tools, called Advanced Distribution Automation functions (ADA, are beingstudied). The main objective of these tools is to use all the distribution network components in acoordinated manner to make them more active and flexible, in addition to increasing their operationalefficiency. In our case, we studied the functions associated with the reconfiguration problem, thevoltage control problem and the hybridization of these two, while taking into account the presence ofthe DG. Based on the inherent components of network physical models, several models have beenproposed. Some are derived from the graph theory and others use powerful mathematicalreformulation to make our models convex. The adopted models answer to the necessity of taking intoaccount all regulation means, which can be discrete (On Load Tap-Changer and capacitor banks),binary (components connectivity such as lines or transformers) and continuous (DG reactive power ),and by the choice of tools and algorithms of mixed optimization. Indeed, the complexity of theseproblems is such that we have explored both algorithms: meta-heuristic (ACA, Ant Colony Algorithm)and deterministic (Generalized Benders Decomposition, Branch and Cut Algorithm).

Setting frequency relays and voltage relays to protect synchronous distributed generators against islanding and abnormal frequencies and voltages

Babi, Bombay 11 1900 (has links)
This study concerns frequency relays and voltage relays applied to the protection of synchronous distributed generators operating in reactive power control mode without a frequency regulation function. The effect of active and reactive powers combination, load power factor, and reactive power imbalance are investigated for their implication for the anti-islanding setting of the frequency relay. Results reveal that the effect of these factors must be considered when setting the relay for islanding detection. For the voltage relay, results reveal that the effect of active and reactive powers combination, load power factor, and active power imbalance must be considered when setting the relay for islanding detection. The effect of multi-stage tripping on the frequency relay ability to detect island was also investigated. Results show that multistage tripping can improve the anti-islanding performance of the frequency relay. / Electrical Engineering / M. Tech. (Electrical Engineering)

Sobre o controle minoritário nas companhias listadas no novo mercado / About the minority control in companies listed in the New Market segment

Camilla Ribeiro Martes 06 June 2014 (has links)
Among the current challenges of the Brazilian Corporate Law, the structure of the capital ownership of the corporations and the identification of those who exercises control over it remains an important aspect to be taken into consideration when analyzing the main aspects of the Brazilian capital market. The heat up of the transactions carried out through the capital market, and the consolidation of the special corporate governance segments in Brazil resulted in the so called phenomenon of the dispersed ownership, which revealed a rupture from the traditional structure of extremely concentrated ownership, that was prevailing until now among the Brazilian corporations. Given such contrasting scenario of changes in the profile of corporate power over Brazilian corporations, these thesis, after describing, over its first two chapters, the structures of capital ownership existent in different economies and providing a retrospective on the capital ownership of Brazilian corporations, presents, in its third chapter, an extensive empirical research performed with the purposes of identifying the current structure of capital ownership prevailing among the Brazilian companies listed in the Novo Mercado, special segment of the Brazilian Exchange BMF&BOVESPA (the New Market), as well as ascertaining the existence of minority corporate control among such companies, as detailed in the appendixes hereto. The referred empirical research presents, furthermore, detailed data processing in connection with the information disclosed by such companies to the Brazilian Stock Exchange Commission, the Comissão de Valores Mobiliários (CVM), and is also used as basis for reviewing the need of eventual changes in the concepts embodied by the Brazilian Corporate Law, in view of the divergent understanding identified in the Brazilian doctrine and judgments issued by the CVM in connection with the existence of a corporate control exercised by a shareholder or group of shareholders owner of shareholding not representative of the majority of the voting capital stock, as detailed in the fourth chapter of these thesis. Finally, the fifth and last chapter of these study presents the final considerations in connection with the review proposed hereto, highlighting the main conclusions obtained through the elaboration of the third and fourth chapters described above, among them the existence of a not majority internal control (minority control) in companies listed in the New Market, as well as the effects of such conclusion in the light of the practice of corporate law.

Estudo experimental e modelagem do escoamento de emulsão inversa em tubulações / Experimental study and modeling of flow of inverse emulsion in pipes

Iara Hernandez Rodriguez 18 November 2014 (has links)
Liquid-liquid flow, especially oil-water flow, has attracted the attention of researchers due to the high demand for petroleum in the current global scenario. The discovery of reserves of heavy and highly viscous oils creates new challenges which are mainly concerned with reducing the significant pressure drop in pipes. Inverse emulsion or oil-in-water dispersions in which the oil is dispersed in water is characterized by its low effective viscosity, making it a desirable type of emulsion in some steps of oil production. These facts make the study of dispersed liquid-liquid flow essential for the design and optimal operation of oil pipelines. However, the studies on such flow pattern are scanty in comparison to those on separate flows, as stratified and annular flow patterns. Drag reduction in oil-water turbulent flow without the addition of any chemical substance has been reported in some studies. This phenomenon has received increasing attention in recent years, because there is not a satisfactory understanding of its dynamics yet. Most studies, almost all using light oils, report drag reduction in dispersion of water-in-oil, with few studies reporting the phenomenon in oil-in-water dispersions. This research comprises an experimental and theoretical study on oil-in-water dispersions in pipes. Pressure gradient, holdup, phase distribution and flow patterns data were obtained to characterize the two-phase flow. A theory was proposed to explain the drag reduction detected in this work, based on the existence of a thin water film flowing in contact with the pipe wall at low Reynolds numbers, avoiding contact between the turbulent core (mixture) and the pipe wall. The liquid film was detected and quantified using visual technique. In addition, a dynamic model based on the hydrodynamic lubrication theory was developed as an attempt to explain the formation of the liquid film.

This dissertation presents a study about the connection of a three-phase Diesel Genset (DG) to a secondary distribution network. The integration of DG is done by a Power Processing Unit (PPU) composed of a three-phase rectifier connected in series with a Pulse Width Modulated Voltage Source Converter (VSC). The DG can operate in two distinct modes: (i) standby (interconnected) or (ii) islanding. The PPU’s output converter can be controlled to inject active power into AC electric grid, or as an Active Power Filter (APF), compensating the reactive power and harmonics currents at the load terminals. The VSC is controlled employing the current mode control (CMC), and its compensators are designed based on the electrical system transfer function in dq0 coordinates. Multiple rotating synchronous reference frame integrators (PI-MRI) are used to ensure the quality of the generated power. Depending on the operating mode, an additional loop is used to regulate the DC bus voltage. In order to validate the mathematical model and the control algorithm, digital simulations using PSIM are performed. Experimental results obtained with the prototype, which controllers were implemented in a TMS320F28335 of Texas Instruments are used to validate the proposed control strategies.

Thermal investigations on polymer dispersed liquid crystal composites and thermo-electric polymer composites using photothermal techniques / Caractérisations thermiques de composites polymères dispersés dans du cristal liquide et de matériaux composites thermoélectriques à base de polymères avec les techniques photothermiques

Kuriakose, Maju 26 June 2013 (has links)
Primarily, newly developed, high sensitive and accurate methods for thermal characterization of liquids using photothermal radiometry are presented. Two experimental configurations are suggested, tested and validated with usual liquid materials. These methods are used to study polymer dispersed liquid crystal samples. Dynamic thermal properties of samples are analysed verses amplitude varying applied electric field with constant frequency as well as versus frequency varying electric field with constant amplitude. Our results clearly show the thermal properties of the samples are prone to depolarizing field effects at the lower frequencies of the applied electric field. The experimental results are modeled against existing theories to predict electric properties of the sample composites. Second part of the manuscript describes the development of a novel photothermal technique based on thermoelectric effect. This technique is particularly useful for thermally characterizing thermoelectric materials without using a separate sensor for measuring induced temperature changes. A theoretical and experimental study is presented. The experiments are done on polyaniline - carbon nanotube composite pellets by measuring Seebeck voltage generated by the samples upon heating by a modulated laser beam. Additional infrared radiometry experiments are done on the same samples and the results are in good agreement with those previously found. Later on, the possibility of photothermoelectric materials to be used as sensors for finding thermal transport properties of materials with a thermal wave resonant cavity is suggested.

Spectroscopie électronique et effet zeeman dans le radical NiH / Electronic spectroscopy and zeeman effect in NiH

Richard, Cyril 26 November 2010 (has links)
This thesis builds on the spectroscopy of NiH established in the late 1980s and early 1990s, principally by Pr. R. W. Field's group at MIT. Experimental measurements significantly extend earlier work, both in field-free and Zeeman spectroscopy. The NiH radical is obtained with a room-temperature metal-hydride discharge source (310 K). Radicals formed in the discharge are excited by a single-mode, continuous wave dye laser and can be conveniently studied either in laser excitation or in dispersed fluorescence. A magnetic circuit with permanent magnets (NdFeB) provides a static magnetic field (0.4 – 0.9 T). In the field-free regime, Fourier transform resolved fluorescence spectra have extended the range of observations up to 6000 cm-1 above v=0 of the electronic ground state, for 58NiH and 60NiH. Energies are modeled with an effective Hamiltonien matrix using the 3d9 supermultiplet formalism developed by Field's group. Zeeman measurements have focused mainly on the range of states studied by including transitions involving the Ω=3/2 excited states. Effective Landé factors have been determined for individual ro-vibrational levels of low-lying and excited states of 58NiH. The unusual J-dependence of the Landé factors obtained for low-lying states are explained by the 3d9 supermultiplet model, quantifying the extent of spin-orbit mixing present in the lower states. The transitions are of potential astrophysical interest since several transition metal hydrides have been observed in the spectra of cool stars and sunspots.
