Bewuswording by die adolessente dwelmafhanklike tydens die terapeutiese proses: 'n gestaltbenadering

Mouton, Carel Petrus Jooste 30 November 2005 (has links)
SUMMARY Existing research on the therapeutic intervention with the drug-addicted adolescent is limited, especially research that focused on the awareness process during therapeutic involvement. This study attempt to determine the face value of Gestalt helping aids throughout the improved awareness of the drug-addicted adolescent during the therapeutic process. A qualitative research approach was followed to achieve this goal. The research data is gained by a detailed literature study, as well as by the observation and study of twelve case studies. The value and the possibilities of application of the Gestalt helping aids in the Gestalt therapeutic process with the drug-addicted adolescent, is examined and described. By processing and integrating the assumptions obtained during the empirical study, the data could have been practically applied. As suggested out of this study a guideline can be developed for the improvement of awareness of the drug addicted adolescent. / Social work / M.Diac (Play Therapy)

Factors affecting vulnerability to depression among gay men and lesbian women

Polders, Louise Alida 30 June 2006 (has links)
The present study explored factors affecting vulnerability to depression among gay men and lesbian women in metropolitan Gauteng, South Africa. Risk factors consistently cited in the literature on depression among gay men and lesbian women, namely self-esteem, social integration, hate speech, physical victimisation, fear of victimisation and alcohol and drug abuse, were examined to determine their ability to predict vulnerability to depression. Data was collected from 385 participants who self-identified as lesbian or gay, using a purposive quota sampling technique to ensure representation across age, gender, race and socio-economic status lines. Participants were selected through gay and lesbian organisations, support groups, counselling centres, the gay and lesbian Pride Parade, an online questionnaire, and via snowballing techniques. Multiple regression analysis indicated that self-esteem and hate speech were the only significant predictors of vulnerability to depression. The regression model accounted for 21.7% of the variance in vulnerability to depression scores. / Psychology / M. Sc. (Psychology)

Children's addiction to the drug "nyaope" in Soshanguve township: parents' experiences and support needs

Masombuka, Jan 06 1900 (has links)
Substance abuse amongst children is a major problem in South Africa and world-wide. The trend of new drugs entering the drug market has increased in South Africa. Currently in South Africa, there is a new drug on the market known as “nyaope” being abused mostly by adolescents in the Townships. The negative consequences of substance abuse affect not only individuals who abuse substances but also their parents and significant others. The researcher observed that most literature in the field of substance abuse focuses on the children addressing issues such as causes, effects, psychological impact and others. Very little is documented on parents‟ experiences and coping capabilities as well as the support they need or receive. This further contributed to the researcher‟s purpose of conduct this study to explore parents‟ experience and support needs with regard to their children‟s addiction to nyaope. / MA (Social Work)

Catarina Irene Rodrigues Dias 27 January 2017 (has links)
There are approximately 370 thousand users of cocaine smoked in Brazil in the national capitals, and for the last ten years the use of crack and / or cocaine has reached four out of every ten Brazilian adolescents in the street, generating a number of individual, family and social consequences. Of this phenomenon is a serious public health problem. The present study was carried out in three moments that consubstantiated in a chapter of book, a review article and an empirical article. The chapter aimed to contextualize the epidemiological panorama of drug use in Brazilian society, through a general characterization of the term and its specificities, as well as a reflection on this phenomenon in the light of Cognitive Social Theory. It is argued that the notion of triadic reciprocity that permeates the entire sociocognitive conception has been contributing to a dynamic and systemic reading of drug consumption, which goes beyond a purely individual understanding, be it biological or behavioral. The literature review article was about the Transtheoric Model of Change (MTT) and the family support in crack user care, helping to discuss strategies for dealing with chemical dependency. In this paper we analyze the contributions of the Transtheoric Model of Change in the treatment of addicted behavior and the importance of understanding the motivational stages and processes of change by the user, family and technical team, demanding the professionals' attention regarding the understanding and treatment Of risky behaviors, which in turn require the reformulation of treatment and care strategies for users who are at any stage. The empirical article that followed the review, addressed the central theme of the dissertation and aimed to investigate the influence of the perception of family support, the belief of self efficacy and the motivational stage of crack users in adherence to the care offered in the ATITUDE Program. It was a mixed study that first investigated 60 users of both sexes that were hosted in the assistance modalities: support and intensive. In the second phase, five participants of both genders were interviewed. The following instruments were used: Family Support Perception Inventory (IPSF); Perceived General Self-Efficacy Scale (AEGP); University of Rhode Island Change Assesment Scale - URICA scale and semi-structured interview. By extracting the Chronbach alpha, we obtained unsatisfactory indicators of internal consistency of the AEGP and URICA scales, and high for the IPSF. The discussion is based on the unique profile of the sample, since many of the users live on the street, with a multitude of basic care deficits and, even with some level of schooling, may have experienced some level of misunderstanding in the sense of what the activity demanded In five alternatives of choice, tending to position themselves with certain ease when the theme was more concrete, as in the case of the family, also having this scale a number of alternatives of choice smaller than the others. Perhaps a larger number of users could dilute these inconsistencies found on the first two scales. Finally, the interviews allowed to highlight the importance of family ties for a better understanding of the phenomenon of crack use in its multiplicity, questioning and proposing an extended view of the family, as an important source of support to users in the continuity of their care.

Prevenção secundária da doença isquêmica coronariana na linha de base do Estudo Longitudinal de Saúde do Adulto (ELSA-Brasil) / Secondary prevention of coronary heart disease at baseline of the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil)

Marina Gabriela Birck 04 October 2018 (has links)
Coronary heart disease (CHD) remains the main cause of mortality worldwide. Secondary prevention of CHD is necessary and avoids new cardiovascular events and mortality. Several factors, including sociodemographic characteristics, contribute positively or negatively to secondary prevention. Objective. To evaluate secondary prevention of CHD in the baseline examination of the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil). Methods. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, chi-squared test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Mann-Whitney test and logistic regression models were performed, as necessary. Results. Of the 15,094 participants included, 2.7% reported previous diagnosis of CHD. Not using any drug was reported by 16.3% of participants with CHD and the use of recommended drugs were reported by 22.7% for the combination of four classes and 12.1% for the combination of antiplatelet medication, beta-blocker and lipid lowering. The main characteristics associated with medication use was income [Odds Ratio (OR) = 2.041; 95% Confidence Interval (95%CI) 1.07 to 3.89] and sex (OR = 0.517; CI95% 0.31 to 0.85). Frequency of medication use was similar among time since CHD event, except for the use of just one drug that increased over time. Conclusion. Use of secondary prevention for CHD was below the recommended guidelines, especially in women and participants with lower income, suggesting the need of public health policies addressing secondary prevention of CHD, especially in these high-risk groups

Análise do uso de medicamentos para hepatite C / Analysis of the use of drugs for hepatitis C

Rios, Marcos Cardoso 23 February 2017 (has links)
Introduction: The dynamics in the development and use of drugs, as an essential part of the care process for patients with hepatitis C, requires equal dynamics in the evaluation of their use, as a way to improve the offer of patient care. Objective: To evaluate the profile of use, effectiveness and safety of medications for the treatment of hepatitis C. Materials and Methods: The thesis was divided into four chapters that sought to respond to the specific objectives of the research. To do so: 1 - a transverse review of the medical records of all patients with hepatitis C who received antiviral therapy with interferon / peginterferon and ribavirin between 2002 and 2012; 2-. The charts of all patients with hepatitis C treated with boceprevir or telaprevir in combination with peginterferon and ribavirin between the years of 2013 and 2015 were analyzed; 3 - a systematic review was conducted to assess the incidence of adverse reactions associated with pharmacotherapies; 4- the perception of a group of patients treated or under treatment with one of the therapeutic regimens for hepatitis C on the impact of adverse reactions was analyzed. Results: In article 1, 298 treatments of hepatitis C with interferon / peginterferon were analyzed, and the sustained response ranged from 40.8% to 58.3% among untreated and previously treated patients with recurrent disease. Regarding article 2, 48 treatments were analyzed that associated the use of telaprevir or boceprevir with peginterferon and ribavirin, presenting sustained response rates ranging from 61.5% associated with telaprevir to 50% to boceprevir. Response rates decreased to 22.8% with telaprevir and 15.4% with boceprevir, when considering the intentions to be treated. In article 3, 13 studies were selected that included 8,221 patients and highlighted 4,801 reports of adverse reactions with 41 different manifestations. The selection ranking shows preferences for the use of direct-acting antivirals and lower recommendation of protease inhibitors. The analysis of patient perceptions (article 4) showed that negative experiences associated with pharmacotherapy are among the main barriers in treatment. Conclusions: The largest cohort of the analyzed universes indicates that the main pharmacotherapy for hepatitis C between the years 2002 and 2015 was the association with peginterferon and ribavirin, remaining as immunomodulants and virustatics used in association with protease inhibitors. The use of combinations with boceprevir or telaprevir has not been shown to be satisfactory and should be avoided. Classical therapy with peginterferon and ribavirin should be preferred over aggregative therapy with protease inhibitors, since the reactions are more insidious and difficult to treat. Directacting antivirals are safer, although the evidence is less robust. Adverse drug reactions affect the daily and the way patients relate to disease and treatment in the perception of a group of patients. Analyzes of the results contribute to the medico-social and economic basis of regulatory activities and other decisions in the field of medication policy and treatment of hepatitis C. / Introdução: A dinâmica no desenvolvimento e uso de medicamentos, como parte essencial no processo de cuidado ao paciente com hepatite C, exige igual dinâmica na avaliação de sua utilização, como forma de melhorar a oferta de assistência ao paciente.

Epidemiological studies show that it is in the passage from childhood to adolescence that the use begins. In Brazil, the treatment is preferentially done in the Centers of Psychosocial Care and in them are offered psychosocial and pharmacological interventions and the combination of them. Pharmacological interventions can be used to stabilize, detoxify, ameliorate withdrawal symptoms and prevent relapse. The pharmacist plays an important role in the safe and effective use of medicines in children and adolescents, since it can prevent identifying, evaluating and intervening in problems related to pharmacotherapy. Objective: to analyze the use of drugs by users of the Psychosocial Care Center Alcohol and Drugs Infanto Juvenil 24 hours (CPCAD adi III). Methodology: an analytical and quantitative cross-sectional study, carried out by reviewing medical records. The medical records of users who were younger than 18 years of age and with prescription of medicines were included and the medical records that were not filled out were excluded. Potential drug interactions (PDI) were analyzed using the Micromedex® and Medscape® database. Descriptive and bi-and multivariate logistic regression analyzes were performed considering a statistically significant relationship p≤0.5. Results: Of the 159 records used in the study, 71.7% were male subjects with mean age of 16 ± 1.9 years, incomplete elementary schooling (88%) and the search for treatment occurred in 55, 3% by judicial measure. Among the diagnostic hypotheses, the most frequent were mental and behavioral disorders due to the use of multiple drugs and the use of other psychoactive substances (F19) 34.9% and mental and behavioral disorders associated with the use of cannabinoids (F12) With 17.2%. The age of first use of SP was on average 12.4 ± 1.90 years. The most used PS was Cannabis (37.2%). The most prescribed drugs were the N03A (antiepileptic) 39.94% and N05A (antipsychotic) 34.83%% groups. A total of 815 PDI were found per type of interaction, 352 drugcannabis, 139 drug-ethanol, 125 drug-foods, 99 drug-tobacco, 83 drug-drug, and 17 drug-cocaine. Regarding the severity of the PDI found, 59.4% were moderate, 23.8% were secondary, 15.7% were serious and 1.1% were contraindicated. The drugs that presented the most PDI were chlorpromazine (32.3%) and diazepam (19.6%). Conclusion: the adolescents were the majority of males, the diagnostic hypothesis that had the highest frequency was that of mental and behavioral disorder due to the use of SPA (F-19). The use of PS was on average at 12 years of age and the most consumed PS was marijuana. The most commonly prescribed drugs were valproic acid (30.63%) and chlorpromazine (20.72%). It was found of 815 PDI with 59.4% classified as moderate. The factor involved in polypharmacy was total PDI and among the factors involved in the occurrence of total PDI were: being studying and the amount of diagnostic hypothesis. In view of the high PDI index, the relationship with polypharmacy and a high number of diagnostic hypotheses, it is necessary to increase the attention of health professionals regarding the topic and the development of protocols to support decision making.
