A medicina social, baseada em doutrinas higienistas e eugenistas, buscou intervir mais diretamente no cotidiano da população, estabelecendo normas de conduta, sob o pretexto de prevenir moléstias e epidemias. O exame pré-nupcial foi um dos aspectos desta orientação mais ampla. Sua realização era defendida por médicos que pretendiam impedir ou adiar casamentos quando um dos nubentes apresentasse alguma doença ou fatores considerados degenerativos, sempre orientados por supostas medidas preventivas imprescindíveis ao que acreditavam ser o aprimoramento racial. Observando que discurso eugênico classificou determinados indivíduos como inferiores e pretendia impedir a reprodução destes, esta pesquisa busca compreender em que medida a questão da raça esteve presente na proposta de intervenção matrimonial. Tomando como referência a noção de discurso como um conjunto de regras adequado à sua prática, constituído por conflitos e tensões internas, procura-se demonstrar como os eugenistas tentaram impor seu saber à sociedade, ou seja, quais eram suas motivações para transformar o exame pré-nupcial em uma lei aplicável em todo o país. Analisa-se ainda as controvérsias e objeções reclamadas por seus críticos, notando como estas e a própria realidade do país contribuíram para que determinadas políticas eugênicas não fossem adotadas, a exemplo da obrigatoriedade do exame pré-nupcial. / The aim of this paper is to analyze the eugenicist medical discourse about the premarital medical examination occurred in the medical environment and the sanitary practices in Brazil, in the early decades of the twentieth century. The social medicine, based on the hygienist and eugenicist doctrines, would intervene in the daily basis of the population by establishing standards of conduct, intending to prevent diseases and epidemics. The prenuptial exam was one of the aspects of this wider orientation. The defense of its realization, gathered doctors who could prevent or postpone marriages when one of the spouses had any disease, always guided by supposed preventive and necessary measures concerning what they believed to be a racial enhancement. Noticing that the eugenic speech classified some people as inferior and it was supposed to stop their reproduction, this research aims to understand in which measure the question about race was present in the proposal of matrimonial intervention. Taking as a reference the notion of the discourse as a group of rules appropriate to its practice, constituted by conflicts and intern tensions, we are going to show how the doctors tried to impose their knowledge to society, in other words, what were their motivations to transform the premarital examination in an applicable law in all over the country. It also analyzes the controversies and objections claimed by the critics, noting how these and the reality of the country contributed to the fact that certain eugenic policies were not adopted, such as the compulsory prenuptial examination. / 15/08002-8

Bakgrund: När en kvinna genomgår en graviditet och förlossning innebär det stora påfrestningar för hennes kropp. Vid en förlossning kan bristningar uppstå, vilket kan medföra besvär för kvinnan i olika utsträckning. Genom eftervårdsbesöket har barnmorskorna en möjlighet att identifiera problem som kan ha uppstått och upptäcka odiagnostiserade förlossningsskador. Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva barnmorskans erfarenheter av gynekologisk undersökning och att bedöma bäckenbottens strukturer vid eftervårdsbesök inom mödrahälsovården. Metod: Semistrukturerade intervjuer genomfördes med elva barnmorskor yrkesverksamma inom mödrahälsovården. Tematisk analys användes för att analysera materialet. Resultat: Ett huvudtema, tre organiserande teman samt tio basteman identifierades. Huvudtemat var: kvinnans behov i centrum. Organiserande teman var: att stödja genom sitt förhållningssätt; att verka hälsofrämjande och förbättringsområden. Basteman var: att vara lyhörd; att bekräfta; att se individuella behov; att motivera till undersökning; att motivera till egenvård; utbildning; struktur; dokumentation; tidsaspekten och uppföljning. Slutsats: Barnmorskor inom mödrahälsovården fyller en viktig funktion i att arbeta hälsofrämjande och arbetar med kvinnans behov i centrum. De försöker individanpassa varje besök och den information som ges ut men upplever att det kan finnas svårigheter att motivera kvinnor till gynekologisk undersökning. Mer utbildning, bättre och tydligare struktur för bedömning av bäckenbotten samt en förbättrad samtalsmetodik kring besvär som kan kvarstå efter förlossningen kan bidra till att kvinnor får den hjälp och vård de behöver. Klinisk tillämpbarhet: Studiens resultat belyser behov av mer kunskap, utbildning och struktur. Att detta uppmärksammas i denna studie kan leda till diskussion om vidareutveckling och att ämnet lyfts i den kliniska verksamheten. / Background: Undergoing pregnancy and childbirth, entails great strain on a woman’s body. When giving birth vaginally, tears may occur, which may cause problems for the woman to a different extent. Through the postpartum check-up, midwives have an opportunity to identify problems that may have occurred and detect undiagnosed perineal injuries. Aim: The aim was to describe the midwife’s experiences of pelvic examination and to assess pelvic floor structures at the postpartum check-up. Method: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eleven midwives working in maternal health care. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the material. Results: One global theme, three organizing themes and ten basic themes were identified. The global theme was: the woman´s needs. The organizing themes were: to support through the approach; to promote health and areas for improvement. The basic themes were: to be responsive; to confirm; to see individual needs; to motivate for examination; to motivate selfcare; education; structure; documentation; time aspect and follow-up. Conclusion: Midwives in maternal health care play an important role in health promotion and working with women's needs. They try to personalize each visit and adapt the information given, but their experience is that there are difficulties in motivating women to undergo a pelvic examination. More education, a better and clearer structure for assessing the pelvic floor and an improved way of addressing problems that may persist after childbirth may enable women getting the help and care they need. Clinical application: The study results highlight an existing need for more knowledge, education and structure. Attention to this can lead to discussion of further development and the subject can also be raised among other healthcare providers.

Social Class Bias in Evaluator Commentaries for the AP Language and Composition Exam (2000-2010), a Critical Discourse Analysis

abstract: This study is a discourse analysis and deconstruction of public documents published electronically in connection with the evaluation of the Advanced Placement Language and Composition Examination, found on the educational website: apcentral.collegeboard.com. The subject of this dissertation is how the characteristic of writing identified as Voice functions covertly in the calibration of raters' evaluation of student writing in two sets of electronic commentaries: the Scoring Commentaries and the Student Performance Q&A;'s published between the years 2000-2010. The study is intended to contribute to both socio-linguistic and sociological research in education on the influence of inherited forms of cultural capital in educational attainment, with particular emphasis upon performance on high-stakes examinations. Modeled after Pierre Bourdieu's inquiry into the latent bias revealed in the "euphemized" language of teacher commentary found in The State Nobility, lists of recurrent descriptors and binary oppositions in the texts are deconstructed. The result of the deconstruction is the manifestation of latent class bias in the commentaries. Conclusions: discourse analysis reveals that a particular Voice, expressive of a preferred social class identity, which is initiated to and particularly deft in such academic performances, is rewarded by the test evaluators. Similarly, findings reveal that a low-scoring essay is negatively critiqued for being particularly unaccustomed to the form(s) of knowledge and style of writing required by the test situation. In summation, a high score on the AP Language Examination, rather than a certification of writerly competence, is actually a testament to the performance of cultural capital. Following an analysis of the language of classification and assessment in the electronic documents, the author provides several "tactics" (after de Certeau) or recommendations for writing the AP Language and Composition Examination, conducive to the stylistic performances privileged by the rating system. / Dissertation/Thesis / Ph.D. Curriculum and Instruction 2011

O tema desta dissertação de mestrado está focado nas questões propostas nos exames de Proficiência em Língua Brasileira de Sinais (Prolibras) realizados em nível nacional, elaborados e executados pela Comissão Permanente de Vestibular da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (COPERVE/ UFSC), através de uma equipe de professores surdos e intérpretes que se dedicam à elaboração e avaliação das provas. O objetivo principal é analisar as provas realizadas nas quatro edições (2006, 2007, 2008 e 2009) e discutir os conhecimentos específicos da Língua de Sinais que são avaliados na prova, através de entrevistas com candidatos que realizaram o Exame, da análise do Edital e das questões propostas nas provas. As reflexões decorrentes das análises trazem concepções, tendências e olhares de um novo lugar para a realização do Exame Prolibras: a evidência de aspectos relacionados a língua de sinais, cultura surda e identidade surda. / The subject of this dissertation of master's degree is focused on the objective questions of the examinations of Proficiency in Brazilian Sign Language (Prolibras) carried out in national level, prepared and executed by the Constant Commission of entrance exam of the Federal University of Saint Catarina (COPERVE / UFSC), through a team of deaf teachers and interpreters who devote themselves the preparation and evaluation of the proofs. The principal objective is to analyse the proofs carried out in three publications (2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009) and to look for the specific knowledges of the Sign Language that are valued at the proof. The reflections resulting from the analyses bring conceptions, tendencies and glances of a new place for the realization of the Examination Prolibras: the evidence of aspects that are related to language of signs, deaf culture and deaf identity.

Effect of repeated eccentric demands placed on the lower limb musculature during simulated Rugby Union play

Epidemiological studies consistently report that muscular strains are a primary injury type in rugby union with the majority of the strains occurring to the quadricep and hamstring musculature. Recently it has been suggested that poor eccentric muscular strength is a precursor to hamstring and quadriceps strains during intermittent sports that require rapid acceleration and deceleration. Despite the high incidence of these muscle injuries in Rugby Union there has been little research into the possible mechanisms involved. Thus, the purpose of this study was to measure the physiological and perceptual responses during a simulated Rugby Union laboratory protocol and further, to identify changes in muscle recruitment patterns and muscle strength over time by comparing this protocol to a continuous, constant load protocol covering the same distance. The experimental condition (EXP) required university level players to perform 80 minutes of simulated rugby union play in a laboratory setting (on a walkway of 22m) which was compared to that of a control condition (CON) which involved subjects covering the same distance, at a constant speed of 4.2km.h-1 on a treadmill. Physiological, biophysical and perceptual responses were measured pre-, at half-time and post-protocol. Heart rate was significantly (p<0.01) greater as a result of EXP in comparison to the CON. Electromyography (EMG) of the vastus medialis was significantly (p<0.01) greater during the CON protocol. The EXP condition elicited higher iEMG activity in the hamstring musculature at all time intervals. In addition the iEMG of the semitendinosus decreased significantly (p<0.01) as a result of the EXP protocol. Peak eccentric knee extensors (EXT) (-13.19%) and flexors (FLEX) (-12.81%) torque decreased significantly during the experimental protocol. After passive half-time (236.67 + 56.27Nm (EXT) and 173.89 + 33.3NM (FLEX)) and at the end of the protocol (220.39 + 55.16Nm and 162.89 + 30.66Nm) reduced relative to pre protocol (253.89 + 54.54Nm and 186.83 + 33.3Nm). Peak eccentric knee extensors did not change during the control protocol. „Central‟ and ‟Local” Rating of Perceived Exertion values were significantly (P<0.01) greater during the EXP protocol with an increased incidence of hamstring discomfort and perceived pain (5 out of 10). The EXP protocol resulted in significantly (p<0.01) increased incidence of delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). In conclusion, a stop-start laboratory protocol elicited increased heart rate, negatively impacted on muscle activity of the hamstrings, decreased eccentric strength in the lower limb musculature, resulted in increased ratings of „Central‟ and „Local‟ exertion and increased pain perception and increased incidence of DOMS. Thus, a stop-start rugby specific laboratory protocol has a negative impact on performance. Due to the specificity of the protocol being designed to match the demands of competitive match play it is expected that these changes in heart rate, muscle activity and strength, particularly eccentric strength, will impact negativity on performance during rugby match play and increase the likelihood of injury

The aural development process is governed by the attitude of the teacher, student, the time factor, methodology employed and materials available. This process and the aforementioned contributing factors are explored within the context of the current requirements of the aural and practical musicianship examination syllabi of The Royal Schools of Music, Trinity College and UNISA. Suitable methods are explored which should develop skills enabling the student to deal with sounds and their corresponding symbols, first in isolation then within a musical context with attention to the curriculum, musical skills and personal development of the student within a positive learning situation. Four main areas of development are isolated i.e. rhythm, pitch, harmony and critical ear skills. For so, a theoretical and bibliographic investigation about the public school management, its social objective, autonomy and the search for the quality from the offered education was held. The open examination process and the recycling of professional competences provided by SEE to public school management board through Progestão were also analyzed. Four school principals from Sao Paulo and Grande ABC region were interviewed concerning their daily practices, tensions, difficulties and performance. The school management in a multirreferential perspective was indicated as a possible solution for this research question.(AU) / Este estudo tem como propósito pesquisar o diretor de escola pública, refletindo sobre a sua prática cotidiana, suas perspectivas e realizações, visando atender a tantas e tão diferentes tarefas que lhe são impostas. Para tanto, fizemos uma investigação teórico-bibliografica sobre a gestão da escola pública, sua finalidade social, autonomia e a busca pela qualidade do ensino oferecido, além de uma análise dos concursos e formas de provimento do referido cargo e analisamos também a oferta de atualização profissional que foi oferecida pela SEE à equipe gestora das escolas públicas estaduais, através do curso de formação continuada Progestão. Na parte prática desta, realizamos uma roda de conversa - uma nova metodologia de pesquisa - com quatro diretores concursados e que atuam frente às escolas públicas estaduais de São Paulo e do Grande ABC e ouvimos deles depoimentos autênticos que retratam suas práticas diárias, tensões, dificuldades e realizações no desempenho de sua função, o que contribuiu em muito para a pesquisa aqui proposta. Apontamos ainda, como uma possível saída para essa situação, a gestão escolar na perspectiva multirreferencial e finalizando este estudo apresentamos as conclusões da pesquisa.(AU)

Vliv antiparazitálních koupelí ryb na hematologické a biochemické ukazatele / Influence of antiparasitic baths of fish on haematological and biochemical indicators

The aim of the diploma thesis was to evaluate the influence of antiparasitic baths on selected biochemical and haematological parameters in the blood samples of fish. According to the results the application schema will be specified or amended such alterations will be substantiated. A test was performed on the fry of carp (naked and scaly form) to evaluate the influence of the peractetic acid with the help of biochemical and haematological parameters and with the histopathological examination. The common carp was exposed to the concetration 1 mg?l-1 and 2 mg?l-1 of PAA. Three days after application was taken the blood samples from fish and the biochemical and haematological parameters were determined. Than was taken a sample of skin with the musculature from fish to be sent for the histopathological examination in University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Brno. Based on the results the naked form of the carp has been declared to be more sensitive to the application of PAA. All the observed changes in haematological and biochemical parameters were within physiological range, so it can be stated, that the application schema of PAA has not a signifiant negative influence on the health of the tested fish.
