This study is contextualized in the perspective of Educational Sociolinguistics and has its support in the Participatory Culture and Literacy studies. The objective was to develop an action- research that includes written text production and linguistic analysis of fanfictions in Portuguese classes, thus associating scientific knowledge with the sociocultural interests of the students. In order to achieve the proposed objectives, we used the genre fanfiction as a tool for teaching in mother language classes, since our purpose is to integrate the practices of reading/ writing and linguistic analysis, considering the sociolinguistic bias in teaching / learning. The suggested activities sought to improve reading and the texts production. In a way to achieve the sociocultural aspects, the student cooperate in choosing the literature books and themes, as well as in analyzing and evaluating of the texts produced in Portuguese classes. Thus, as sociolinguistic studies advocate, we seek to promote student participation as active agents and knowledge builders

Yaoi manga a slash fanfiction pohledem sociologie / Yaoi Manga and Slash Fanfiction in a Sociological Point of View

Musilová, Věra January 2015 (has links)
This thesis deals with slash fanfiction and yaoi manga, disparate yet similar phenomena of fan culture. Yaoi manga as genre of Japanese comics created by women and dedicated to women , and slash fanfiction as women's reaction to pop culture generally made by male authors, are both genres dealing with a romantic relationship between two men characters. This relationship is portrayed as an innocent romantic story as well as a hardcore pornography. The autor aims to describe the terms and inctroduce some of the most influential approaches to research of the topic. Author is interested in the issue in the way of cultural and gender approach. Cultural perspective provides a summary of approaches of Frankfurt and Birmingham schools, clarifys point of view of Abercrombie and Longhurst and other authors on the current and future trends in development of audiences. Mapping the internet, important space for the fan communitiy, is also a part of this paper. Gender perspective provides a description of the points of view on the women's status in popular culture, explains the motivation of the readers/authors related to the issue of homosexuality, and describes opinions of different feminisms about pornography. Research among fangirls and fanboys or authors of slash fanfiction and yaoi manga is included.

FLUXO DE INFORMAÇÃO EM FANFICTION: UMA PROPOSTA DE ANÁLISE SISTÊMICO-FUNCIONAL / FLOW OF INFORMATION IN FANFICTION: A PROPOSAL OF SYSTEMIC FUNCTIONAL ANALYSIS

Martins, Noara Bolzan 23 February 2015 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The theoretical perspective adopted in this study is part of a systemic-functionalist view of language. The language can be analyzed from different angles, as the postulates of Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG), which considers the texts with metafunciont encompassing ideational, interpersonal and textual meanings. The textual metafunction organizes the language in a unit of meaning (HALLIDAY; MATTHIESSEN, 2004, 2014) that allows us to recognize how we build the flow of information in texts. On the internet, a range of publications explodes daily and we realized many new textual genres arising from the heavy use of technologies and their interference in daily communication activities. Among these new genres are the fanfiction. In this sense, the objective of this study focuses on analyzing how to process the flow of textual information in fanfiction, that is, how we can build these texts as a unit of meaning. The texts are written in portuguese and published in the two largest sites of fanfiction publications in Brazil. The results show that the functional units of amusement - Theme occur mainly at the level of the clause and that the boundary between the subject and the Rheme is located immediately after the first phrasal element with a representation or representational function. The notion of theme, initially equated in terms of the clause, can provide valuable input for the analysis of textual structures. The results also show that in each phase of the text, there may be different sets of semantic topics and N-Rheme, which is essential stages of progression in the textual and therefore all the texts. We consider Theme and N-Rheme as important elements for the analysis above surfaces of sentence - in particular the thematic and rhemetic progression and development, and in general, the construction of textual structure.

[en] FANFICTION: ARCHONTIC REWRITINGS / [pt] FANFICTION: REESCRITAS ARCÔNTICAS

LUCIANA DA SILVA RIBEIRO 01 October 2018 (has links)
[en] Fanfictions are fictional stories written by fans, based on TV shows, movies, literary works, videogames: fans borrow from previously existing characters and universes to develop new plots. From a post-structuralist perspective, this study follows two complementary lines of research: first, it examines fanfiction in light of the theoretical-conceptual propositions of André Lefevere (1982, 1992) — notions of refraction/rewriting and patronage; second, it dialogues with Jacques Derrida s Archive Fever (1995), and his rich contributions to the notion of archive. This research focuses particularly on investigating the following effects of this type of rewriting: how does fanfiction disrupt the traditional modus operandi of literary systems? How do fan narratives destabilize, to a greater or lesser extent, identities of other rewritings, such as the pastiche? Considering the specificities of the genre, how can one characterize it from a philosophical perspective? This research shows in particular that (a) fanfiction can be thought of as a type of rewriting in Lefevere s terms, fan narratives destabilize some patronage control mechanisms, there are differences between fanfiction and pastiche, as well as between these and other forms of rewriting, such as translation, adaptation and literary criticism; and (b) fanfiction can be productively conceived as an archontic rewriting, in Derrida s terms, as it is used by so-called minorities as a way of expressing dissatisfaction and a path to representativity (DERECHO, 2006), while still corroborating the tension between conservative and institutive forces, as proposed by the philosopher in his archive theory. Finally, excerpts of fanfictions from three different fictional universes are analyzed, in light of the theories of Lefevere, Derecho and Derrida, in order to illustrate and reinforce the theoretical discussions presented.

Först kom författaren, efteråt kom läsaren : En receptionsteoretisk studie fokuserat på läsaren som medskapare inom fanfiction

Eriksson, Paulin January 2021 (has links)

Att trassla ut taggar : Om fanfictions tillgängliggörande och arkivering på internet / To detangle tags : About the accessibility and archiving of fanfictions online

Fältskog, Natalia January 2020 (has links)
The aim for this study is to investigate how the website archiveofourown.org dedicates itself to archiving and organizing fanfiction. This study aims to find answers for how archiveofourown makes fanfiction accessible for the fanfiction community, both in the present time and in its function as an archive. Building from Derrida's thoughts about how power control what is archived and therefore the exclusion from archives is a threat to de-mocracy. Paired with the idea from De Kosnik about fanfiction archives archiving a part of media that does not exist this essay will argue for the importance of the free-form tagging of meta-data in correlation to user-uploaded fanfiction on www.archiveofourown.org and the archiving of said meta-data as well as fanfiction. The thesis also discusses the importance for fandom-community to own their archives due to censorship and accessibility. In this thesis the concept of gender as a performative discourse is important to the understanding of women's labour in fanfiction communities.Material for this study have been gathered from the website archiveofourown.org during the spring of 2020. By doing a close reading of the material published by the site and the users the study presents how the tagging sys-tem works and analyses the findings with help of previous research. The results of this study show that the free form tagging system of metadata is important for the fanfiction community. By allowing this form of tagging the culture of the online space can be preserved. This study finds that most producers and consumers of fanfic-tion identify as female, and therefore argues that the use of volunteer work on a site with material by and for female is problematic due to the issue that feminine coded values, like organizing and flexibility, suggests that the work is less technical and such less masculine than it would otherwise be perceived.According to the findings of this study the tagging systems of metadata has an important part in preserving internet history of those that may not have it preserved otherwise. It is also preserving part of other internet cultures such as the tagging culture on websites like tumblr.com. This is a two-year master's thesis in archival science. / This study focuses on the presence of the reader-writer of stories created and published on the Internet, more specifically, an author who was once a reader of an original story, and decides to continue it (from the moment which its first original writer finished) or modify it in order to please yourself and/or any other readers, because, as Roland Barthes once said (2004), the writer will always be an imitator of his writings prior to that time, but never original. In the stories created by fans-authors (as the authors committed in the writing of this kind of story are called), we study the modification of the concept of authorship nowadays, because the author loses has a new personality as he/she uses some form of information technology - and now handles with something called hybrid genres: texts that are not just pure, but haven‟t a feature to be defined only by common concepts either. Thus it is difficult to define what is, after all, the author in the era of digital genres. At a time when every day people worldwide increase their number of hours browsing, digital genres represent a new relationship between humans and semiotic instrument, with several aspects to be observed.

Mineração textual e produção de fanfictions : processos desencadeadores de oportunidades de letramento no ensino de língua estrangeira

Barcellos, Patrícia da Silva Campelo Costa January 2013 (has links)
This doctoral thesis aims at investigating how literacy in a foreign language (FL) may be supported by the use of a digital resource which can help the processes of reading and writing. Thus, the present research is based on studies by Feldman and Sanger (2006) about text mining, and on research by Black (2007, 2009) about the incorporation of a textual genre characteristic of the Internet (fanfiction) in language learning. Through the use of a text mining resource (Sobek), which promotes the extraction of frequent terms present in a text, the participants of this study created narratives, in digital media. The twelve students who participated in the research used the tool Sobek to mediate the production of stories known as fanfictions, in which new plots are created from cultural elements already recognized in the media. The participants were six undergraduate students of Languages and six students who were part of an extension course, both groups at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). In the proposed task, each student read a fanfiction of his/her choice, which was published on a website, and used the mining tool to develop graphs with the recurrent terms found in the story. During this process, the student had the opportunity to make associations between expressions from the text, using the software Sobek, so as to form an image (graph) that represented terms used in this textual genre (such as the use of verbal tenses in the past and adjectives to describe characters and context). Later, this graph was forwarded to a peer, who then began his/her writing process based on this picture originated from a text. From the data analysis, it was observed that the use of a digital tool supported the text production in the FL, and its following practice of literacy, as the authors relied on the mining resource to create their fanfictions.
