[en] A SYSTEMATIC MAPPING STUDY AND PRACTITIONER INSIGHTS ON THE USE OF SOFTWARE ENGINEERING PRACTICES TO DEVELOP MVPS / [pt] UM MAPEAMENTO SISTEMÁTICO E PERCEPÇÕES DE PRATICANTES SOBRE O USO DE PRÁTICAS DE ENGENHARIA DE SOFTWARE PARA DESENVOLVER MVPSSILVIO ALONSO MARQUES 24 May 2022 (has links)
Entretanto, o entendimento geral desta
(e.g., Design Thinking, Lean Inception) e principalmente práticas informais
[en] Many startup environments and even traditional software companies
have embraced the use of MVPs (Minimum Viable Products) to allow quickly
experimenting solution options. The MVP concept has influenced the way in
which development teams apply Software Engineering (SE) practices. However,
the overall understanding of this influence of MVPs on SE practices is still poor.
Our goal is to characterize the publication landscape on practices that
have been used in the context of software MVPs and to gather practitioner
insights on the identified practices.
We conducted a systematic mapping study using a hybrid search strategy
that consists of a database search and parallel forward and backward snowballing. Thereafter, we discussed the mapping study results in two focus groups
sessions involving twelve industry practitioners that extensively use MVPs in
their projects to capture their perceptions on the findings of the mapping study.
We identified 33 papers published between 2013 and 2020. We observed
some trends related to MVP ideation and evaluation practices. For instance,
regarding ideation, we found six different approaches (e.g., Design Thinking,
Lean Inception) and mainly informal end-user involvement practices (e.g.,
workshops, interviews). Regarding evaluation, there is an emphasis on enduser validations based on practices such as usability tests, A/B testing, and
usage data analysis. However, there is still limited research related to MVP
technical feasibility assessment and effort estimation. Practitioners of the focus
group sessions reinforced the confidence in our results regarding ideation and
evaluation practices, being aware of most of the identified practices. They also
reported how they deal with the technical feasibility assessments (involving
developers during the ideation and conducting informal experiments) and effort
estimation in practice (based on expert opinion and using practices common
to agile methodologies, such as Planning Poker).
Our analysis suggests that there are opportunities for solution proposals
and evaluation studies to address literature gaps concerning technical feasibility assessment and effort estimation. Overall, more effort needs to be invested
into empirically evaluating the existing MVP-related practices.

Hatakka, Charlotta January 2024 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to highlight and increase knowledge about school development processes in compulsory school with a focus on all students' right to an equal education. To achieve the purpose, it was investigated what the teachers focused on in the discussions at the start of the work and how the focus changed during the work as well as what opportunities and obstacles became visible during the process. To investigate this, action research was used as an approach and a project work was created on accessible learning environments. The study is qualitative and the empirical data is based on focus group discussions, logbooks and interviews. To analyze the results from the empirical data, the theory of practice architecture was used, which also made it possible to make the saying visible in the conversations based on the research questions. The theory of practice architecture is a generally accepted method for analysing results from action research. The results of the study showed that the teachers initially focused on the obstacles they thought they saw in practice. In the conversations, they discussed that the conditions for the work are based on the students' varying needs, the classroom environment and time. The goal of participation was also given a lot of space in the discussions. A bit into the project, the teachers began to focus more on the positive effects of working with the learning environment and the changed view they had gained about the work. The conditions for the work continued to take up space in the discussions, but then also included finances and cooperation. Opportunities and obstacles were made visible. What made the work possible was to set aside time for the work, cooperation and supervision as well as an increased understanding of the importance of the learning environment. What hindered the work was lack of time, finances and, to some extent, the solidarity that existed in the team.

Enhancing lecturing staff morale at a technical and vocational education and training college in Newcastle, KwaZulu- NatalRampersadh, Satish Harilal 06 1900 (has links)
The study was conducted to determine strategies that could be used by relevant managers and authorities in promoting the morale of lecturers at a TVET College, in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal. A qualitative research design and methodology was used to gather data from semi-structured interviews with the participants by means of two focus groups of six lecturers each and face to face interviews with the three programme managers. Purposive sampling was used to select the lecturers from the two engineering campuses of the sampled college. Data were constantly compared and analysed using the constant comparative analysis of data.
The study found that aspects that contribute to low morale exceed those for high morale in the sampled college. Therefore, by studying the results obtained from the data, it can be deduced that lecturers at the College are not content with the current working conditions and the senior management style of the college.
It is the duty of managers to consider the holistic welfare of employees. This is necessary for the creation of a suitable workplace for all staff of the college. To achieve this, supervisors and lecturers need to know what aspects influence staff morale. Henceforth, this study focused on effective strategies and recommendations that could be implemented to promote the morale of lecturers at the college. / Educational Management and Leadership / M. The management of educator redeployment in Limpopo provinceNemutandani, Ntsandeni 01 1900 (has links)
In 1997 a policy of rationalization and educator redeployment was adopted in South Africa to ensure funding equity among the provinces. This research investigates policy implementation with particular reference to the Limpopo Province. A literature review provided an overview of the policy including the determination of excess educators and the establishment of bodies to facilitate redeployment. Problems of implementation and the role of the school principal in this process are discussed. An empirical investigation using a qualitative approach explored the experiences of key stakeholders affected by educator redeployment: a government official, principals, educators who were transferred and educators awaiting redeployment. Participants were selected by judgement sampling and data gathered interviews. Findings illustrated the key role of the Department of Education, the educators' unions and principals; the effect on teachers' motivation; educator stress and the impact on receiving and sending schools. Based on the findings recommendations for practice are made. / Educational Studies / M. Ed. (Education Management)

Guidelines for empowering secondary school educators, In loco parentis, in addressing truancy among early adolescent learnersVan Breda, Maynard John 30 November 2006 (has links)
This study examined the prevalence and the nature of truancy among early adolescent learners attending secondary schools in the Education Management and Development Centre (EMDC) in the eastern metropole of the Western Cape.
The main purpose of the study was to answer the following question: How can secondary school educators, in loco parentis, be equipped with the required skills and resources in order to deal with the issue of truant behaviour among early adolescent learners? A comprehensive literature review was conducted to explore the character and extent of truancy. Thereafter, various theories of child development were highlighted, followed by a synopsis comprising different dimensions of the development of the early adolescent learner.
The empirical investigation was carried out through quantitative as well as qualitative research methodology. A focus group interview was conducted with six learners, offering them an opportunity to express their perceptions and experiences as truants. Interviews were conducted with principals to obtain their impressions regarding truant behaviour. Thereafter, a questionnaire, which investigated truancy related aspects such as interaction with peers, parents and caregivers' involvement in learners' school activities, educators' influence on learners' school work and learners' self-esteem regarding their schooling, was administered to three hundred learners. The quantitative investigation revealed significant aspects about truant behaviour, indicating that predominantly more male than female learners (173 male and 26 as in the case of the present study) display this type of behaviour, truants generally originate from single parent families, and that they experience their educators and learning environments as extremely negative. Finally, two in-depth case studies were conducted on two learners, one identified as a truant and the other as a non-truant respectively. The purpose of the in-depth studies was to explore possible differences in their experiential worlds. Although the qualitative data is not generalisable, the findings of the case studies have revealed significant differences in the life worlds of the two learners. Comparatively speaking, it appears that non-truant learners are significantly better adjusted on all their functioning levels than truant learners.
The results of the empirical investigation were compared with relevant findings which emerged from the literature study. Based on the present investigation, the study was concluded by offering a range of recommendations to secondary school educators, in loco parentis, empowering them in addressing the phenomenon of truancy among early adolescent learners in the Western Cape with its distinctive problems. / Educational Studies / D. Female secondary school educators' personality awareness in relation to work related stressWood, Frauke Patricia 30 November 2007 (has links)
1 online resource (122 leaves : ill.) / Educator stress is a grave problem. The aim of this research is to understand female secondary school educators' personality awareness in relation to work related stress, with particular reference to an independent school in Witbank, Mpumalanga, South Africa. In the literature study I determined the nature of work related stress in educators' lives and investigated personality awareness. My empirical research established the level of work related stress experienced by female educators and how an awareness of different personalities may influence the person's experience of work related stress. The research methods were qualitative in nature and included an interview as well as focus group observations. Findings suggested that all the educators were stressed to a lesser or greater degree, but the critical fact was that what is stressful to one person may not be stressful to another. Based on the findings, recommendations were made for improvements to help alleviate educator stress. / Educational Studies / M. Ed. (specialisation in Guidance and Councelling)

The use of digital media within gestalt play therapyTruby, Elvir Joan 06 1900 (has links)
The world is dominated by digital media that have become central to many children’s lives. Children born in the last 30 years have become known as ‘digital natives’, as digital technology has always been part of their experiential field. The use of such media in play therapy could offer innovative ways of enhancing dialogue with those children in whose field they are included, as they have been to date unexplored in play therapy interventions, possibly resulting in missed therapeutic opportunities.
This mixed methods research took the form of an email questionnaire sent out to play therapists in South Africa to ascertain whether digital technology is being used in therapy and, if so, which digital media are being used and how. Additionally, a focus group interview was conducted using the same questionnaire to ensure data triangulation. The data gathered were analysed qualitatively, and an understanding was gained regarding the current use of digital media in play therapy. / Social Work / M. Diac. (Play Therapy)

This report joins in a lineage of researches having for theme street gangs. The objectives of this research is to define and to specify how the young offenders perceive the universe of the street gangs and its constituents, these last ones being the perceptions that have the participants of a street gang of street, a member, activities (delinquent or other), ex-member and the life after the gang. To distance itself from the other researches, we realized focus group with 13 young offenders currently doing time in the units of rehabilitation of the Centre jeunesse de Montréal-Institut universitaire. These participants, belonging or not to a street gang, shared their representations and their perceptions on the universe of gangs and his constituents.
In the light of the analysis of the contents of the focus group, a community of ideas gets free of it. The young people share representations and similar perceptions as for the street gangs and its constituents. The street gangs are, as for them, a group of young people who commit offences, with violence or not and who becomes identified with something. To identify a member it is necessary to be a part of this middle. They are very often to be over identified by the police authorities and other participants because of the used criteria. Although criminal activities made integral part of their lifestyle, we should not neglect the positive and pleasant activities which are a part of their everyday life. To leave this universe, it is enough to inform its gang about it. No specific things must be made. However, the enemies and the police continue to identify as member these young people who try to take out and continue their life. This stage is not made without trap and obstacles. With updating our knowledge and making a more current portrait on the subject gives the possibility of sharing them with the various participants, the police and other, so that they can take into account in their interventions with this youths. In particular in the centres de réhabilitation, where the need to express himself freely on the subject and to be listened to was named loud and clear.
