How to Succeed in Export : A comparative Study of Export & Marketing Strategies Among the Winners of the Export-Hermes/ Stora Exportpriset

Lindsten, Carl-Johan, Isefjord, Mattias January 2006 (has links)
<p>Background</p><p>International trade has dramatically increased during the last half of the 20th century and it is now of significant importance to most eco-nomies. International trade is especially crucial to countries such as Sweden, with a small domestic market. It has been said that a com-pany needs to have a committed management, as well as a strategy for it’s export and it’s marketing to reach long-term success. Never-theless, companies sometimes use a “strategy of least involvement”, leaving the international marketing strategy decisions in the hands of foreign agents and distributors.</p><p>Purpose</p><p>The purpose with this thesis is to investigate how the export and marketing strategies have been developed and implemented by suc-cessful Swedish export companies.</p><p>Method</p><p>Winners of the Export-Hermes Prize and Stora Exportpriset have been used as a sample of successful export companies. Qualitative semi-structured interviews with four of them were conducted to col-lect the empirical data.</p><p>Conclusion</p><p>The export companies in this study showed great differences con-cerning their original export ambitions, the methods they used to se-lect foreign markets, the modes that they used to enter new markets and the pace in which the international expansions were carried out. There were however strong similarities between the successful ex-port companies in other areas. All four companies had owners and top management who had been, and in most cases still were, highly involved and driving forces in the export activities. The companies also shared a belief in working with clear goals and having a strict control over subsidiaries and intermediaries. The authors are of the opinion that this control and monitoring are crucial for the success of the implementation of the export and marketing strategies.</p>

Hermes: A Targeted Fuzz Testing Framework

Shortt, Caleb James 12 March 2015 (has links)
The use of security assurance cases (security cases) to provide evidence-based assurance of security properties in software is a young field in Software Engineering. A security case uses evidence to argue that a particular claim is true. For example, the highest-level claim may be that a given system is sufficiently secure, and it would include sub claims to break that general claim down into more granular, and tangible, items - such as evidence or other claims. Random negative testing (fuzz testing) is used as evidence to support security cases and the assurance they provide. Many current approaches apply fuzz testing to a target system for a given amount of time due to resource constraints. This may leave entire sections of code untouched [60]. These results may be used as evidence in a security case but their quality varies based on controllable variables, such as time, and uncontrollable variables, such as the random paths chosen by the fuzz testing engine. This thesis presents Hermes, a proof-of-concept fuzz testing framework that provides improved evidence for security cases by automatically targeting problem sections in software and selectively fuzz tests them in a repeatable and timely manner. During our experiments Hermes produced results with comparable target code coverage to a full, exhaustive, fuzz test run while significantly reducing the test execution time that is associated with an exhaustive fuzz test. These results provide a targeted piece of evidence for security cases which can be audited and refined for further assurance. Hermes' design allows it to be easily attached to continuous integration frameworks where it can be executed in addition to other frameworks in a given test suite.

Quarto, Cicero Costa January 2016 (has links)
This thesis consists of a theoretical-experimental quali-quantitative research that seeks to understand how combinations of student profiles, based on their own evaluation of psychological behavior (self-report profiles), hope, self-esteem and self-efficacy, are more suitable in promoting more effective collaborative learning, as well as in the development of an agent-based technology model, called Hermes Multi-Agent System (Hermes-MAS), capable of supporting the optimized groups formation for collaborative learning. The research methodology includes three experiments carried out in MOODLE / CINTED / UFRGS VLE, from which the conceived Hermes-MAS model is validated. The sample used in the experiments was composed of thirty-six students (18 years of average age range), from the State University of Maranhão (UEMA), all of which were attending the same Discrete Mathematics and Advanced Data Structure classes. Considering the students self-report profiles, group compositions in a random system (based on the teacher's desired formation) and free (where students chose their own peers) were tested Variables such as MSOA (Maximal Score Obtained in the Activity), ART (Activity Realization Time) and GCPj (Group Collaboration Potential) were established in order to express or predict the group’s collaborative behaviors. At the end of the experiments, a sociometric test was applied with the objective of identifying social affinities according to the self-report profiles hope, self-esteem and self-efficacy of the students. The results are satisfactory in relation to the improvement of group performances in collaborative learning contexts when considering the tuple (GCPj; MSOA). It was also verified through the results that the best performances of collaborative groups were achieved through group formations in a random manner, emphasizing that even the minimal group performance obtained through this training was still positive. From the applied sociometric test, one can extract preponderant characteristics of the related pairs, so that this information helps in the development of an ontological model of collaboration and thus supports the definition of Student roles Vs. Self-report profiles for collaborative learning contexts.

[en] CONVERGENCES AND DIVERGENCES: THE POLITICAL REPUBLICAN LANGUAGE DURING THE CAMPANHA CIVILISTA / [pt] CONVERGÊNCIAS E DIVERGÊNCIAS: A LINGUAGEM POLÍTICA REPUBLICANA NA CAMPANHA CIVILISTA

ERICA SANTOS SZABO 12 March 2015 (has links)
[en] In this dissertation I analyze the republican political language through the texts produced by Hermes da Fonseca, Rui Barbosa, and their followers during the so-called Campanha Civilista. Unlike the traditional historiography, I will try to demonstrate that the ideas of both candidates about the Brazilian Republic were more convergent than divergent, despite their different professional backgrounds. Such similarity is due to the fact that both shared a same linguistic community (in the sense Pocock understands it) wherethe concept of republican politics and that one of nation appear in a very similar way. Their distinctalliances ans insertions among the regional political groups remained being responsible for the main differences they presented during this presidential campaign.

International Participation in AOS Standards Development

Lenhard, Klaus G. 11 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 30-November 02, 1989 / Town & Country Hotel & Convention Center, San Diego, California / During the current decade, international cooperation in space projects has become more and more popular and this trend is increasing. Initially, this involved only single missions with agencies flying payloads on other agencies' spacecraft. Later, this trend continued with international ventures, involving different agencies. In the immediate future, even more challenging scenarios are foreseen. The best known example and prime driver for such sophisticated missions will be the Space Station Freedom and its participating partners' spacecraft. Some of the international missions (ESA missions) are described briefly in this paper, in order to set the scene for a better understanding of the complex needs for standards within advanced orbiting systems. These ventures call for efficient means for cooperation and interoperability. Part of these requirements can be met by following international standards for space communications and space data systems. The Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS) undertook the task of integrating the space data systems requirements and developing appropriate recommendations for data systems standards for these Advanced Orbiting Systems (AOS). All international partners in the Space Station Freedom Program participated in the definition, development, and review of the AOS recommendations. The need for better cooperation in space communications via data relay satellite prompted the formation of a three party international panel called the Space Network Interoperability Panel (SNIP). An important aspect is the need for verification and validation of the concept and of the detailed technical recommendations. For the immediate future, special compatibility campaigns, involving the international agencies are planned in order to ensure the smooth application and functioning of the AOS recommendations.
