It's not a given to be first, but it is likely not so great to be last” : A qualitative case study on the furtherance of innovation, organizational culture and intrapreneurship

Elmér, Jack January 2021 (has links)
Companies today face increased competition from more than just local companies, whereupon the importance of standing out from their competitors and maintaining a high pace of innovation has also increased. Thus, it is up to companies to design their organization to enable the utilization of their employees' innovation proposals and thus avoid stagnation. One way to do this is to shape an intrapreneurship culture within the company, something that is not without challenges. The purpose of the following study was to, on the basis of employee statements, carry out an organizational cultural analysis of how a well-established Swedish company captures employees' innovative ideas, as well as opportunities and difficulties with intrapreneurship. The study was conducted as a qualitative, interpretevistic, case study with an inductive approach, whose empirical data were obtained through semi-structured interviews and internal documents. The findings were interpreted abductively using Schein's multilevel model of organizational culture that divides culture into three levels which are exemplified as follows: artifacts – innovation proposal templates and innovation processes, beliefs and values – officially stated goals and published values, as well as basic assumptions – that standardization inhibits specialization, and the role IT can and should play within the organization. The study shows that decentralized and self-governing areas of business can simultaneously handle and evaluate innovation and intrapreneurship in very different ways. One conclusion is that decentralized and self-determined goals can lead to an imbalance, where one area of business accounts for the majority of the organization's total innovation work. As a result of its silo structure, certain problems arise regarding the business areas' ability to share lessons related to innovation processes. This means that the process within which employees submit innovation proposals, and thus also their conditions for doing so, varies depending on where within the organization the individual works. The organization's IT department could to a greater extent assist in innovation and digitalization work, whereupon the relationship between IT and organizational culture is also highlighted. Furthermore, the study found a predominant uniformity between the organization's three cultural levels, where artifacts were largely in line with its acclaimed values of caution and long-term perspective, as well as basic assumptions about optimal risk management.

Hur förändrar smart teknik resurseffektiviteten i fordonsbranschen?

Mirza, Helen, Nikolic, Rade January 2019 (has links)
Today, there is much talk about smart technology and it is said that the fourth industrial revolution is on its way. The revolution is called Industry 4.0 and involves two technical improvements, the Internet of Things (IoT) and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). IoT allows physical devices to be interconnected in a system with other devices using electromagnetic waves and CPS provides the opportunity to get information from the outside world and implement the information in digital form. When it comes to implementation in the manufacturing industry, the concepts Industrial Internet of Things and Cyber-Physical Production Systems are used. The thesis consists of an in-depth literature study and investigates what implementation of IoT and CPS in the automotive industry's manufacturing system can lead to and how they work in practice. The theory is based on scientific articles, paper and journals, and a study by Atlas Copco. Because smart technology is a broad topic and we needed to relate to a time limit of 18 weeks, the work was limited to IoT and CPS only in manufacturing passenger car companies. The industry for passenger cars was chosen so that, in comparison with other industries, both the quality and the quantity are decisive. While many passenger cars are being produced, each passenger car must meet a variety of requirements and each unit constitutes a significant part of the capital of the company. The result shows how IoT and CPS work as a whole and what positive and negative consequences the implementation of the concepts gives. The result also shows that the factors of production, economy and humanity should be analysed as a whole and not individually in order for the implementation to be successful in manufacturing passenger car companies. The opportunities that IoT and CPS entail are faster and more precise decisions, system monitoring and collection, exchange and analysis of data for the automotive industry's companies. The biggest challenge that the implementation of the concepts entails is data management. There is a risk that unwanted recipients will have access to confidential information through, among other things, data leakage and hacking. Thus, the focus should be on preventing this in order to get the benefits and at the same time reduce the disadvantages. The conclusion that can be drawn from the result is that IoT and CPS in the automotive industry's manufacturing system create a communication network among heterogeneous units that enable systems to communicate and exchange data with each other in an efficient manner. Implementation of the concepts leads to a reduction of defects, introduction costs, energy use and training for workers, as well as increased tool operation and productivity.

A Framework to Incorporate Industry 4.0 into SME to Enhance Resource Planning

Ganta, Sathvik January 2020 (has links)
Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) have grown steadily in recent years.  SMEs generate 59.7 % of value-added and 65.5 % of employment in the ‘non-financial business economy’ in Sweden. It's important for the success of SMEs to be ready to provide high product availability to customers at minimal operation costs. The challenges faced by SMEs are tougher in global competition. There is a rapid growth in the industrial revolution to deal with the challenges as well as competition. This work mainly focuses on implementing resource planning (RP) and adapting to the latest technologies of Industry 4.0 into SMEs to face the challenges. But incorporating Industry 4.0 in a major struggle in the SMEs.  The thesis provides a view of Resource Planning implementation. The authors describe the resource planning implementation techniques and define the requirements for its successful implementation. Resource Planning (RP) adoption factors have been studied quite extensively over the years. However, this master thesis tries to investigate the less explored area of resource planning. Relatively a smaller amount of research has been conducted, when it comes to implementation of Industry 4.0 technologies especially in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).  Industry 4.0 provides new paradigms for the industrial management of SMEs. Supported by a growing number of new technologies, this concept appears more flexible and less expensive than traditional enterprise information systems. This paper presents a literature review of existing applied research covering different Industry 4.0 issues about SMEs. Furthermore, the analysis is done to understand the correlation between the identified factors of Industry 4.0 technologies. The research findings indicate that the use of IoT and Cloud computing are major advantages for resource planning in an SME. The results from the analysis are presented in a framework designed for the future adaptation of these technologies. Despite the research limitations, the findings show a high advantage. Finally, the author suggests a future scope of research.
