Assessing the Repercussions of a Mass Departure of Building Inspectors from the Code Professional Industry in Utah

Williams, George Reese 01 June 2015 (has links) (PDF)
National studies suggest that eighty percent of existing code professionals are expected to retire within the next fifteen years. As part of this research, it was determined that approximately half of all licensed building inspectors in the State of Utah will reach retirement age within the next ten years. As building inspectors make up a large part of the Code Professional Industry this demographic was selected as the focus of this research. The purpose of this research project was to assess the urgent need for new entrants into the Code Professional Industry in Utah. As part of this research, trends within the local industry over a 20 year period were evaluated. A statewide survey of over 300 licensed building inspectors was conducted to investigate the demographics of the industry, and gain first-hand insight from individual code professionals. This research was successful in quantifying the size of the Code Professional Industry in Utah, and numbering the populations of certified professionals in each individual code discipline. In addition, projected losses were established within each code discipline, discovering many disciplines in which over 50% of current professionals would be lost within a ten year period. In addition projections were made contrasting the number of code professionals leaving the industry versus the small anticipated number of individuals entering the industry. This research conclusively predicts a steady and dramatic decline in the number of licensed code professionals, unless the industry actively works toward addressing the issue. The group of aging code professionals possess a level of knowledge and experience not easily replaced. This study was based on an extensive statewide survey of licensed building inspectors in Utah, and collected opinions, concerns and insights directly from the Code Professional Industry. The findings of this study provide a unique look at this specialized industry within a single state. The lessons learned likely apply to populations of code professionals in other locations. This study concluded that a combination of phased retirement, modified work duties and mentoring programs would be of great benefit to the Code Professional Industry, by allowing the transfer of knowledge between the outgoing generation and the future generation of code professionals.

A Mission to Sanitize: Public Health, Colonial Authority, and African Agency in Western Nigeria, 1900-1945

Alade, Adebisi January 2022 (has links)
Studies on empire have shown that colonialism generated new disease environments and complicated old disease experiences in Africa. These conditions necessitated a mission to sanitize Africans and their environment in British West Africa since the colonies had to be conducive for European colonial officials and their African labor, especially given the region’s image as the “white man’s grave.” However, colonial administrations lacked the skills, adequate personnel, and materials to transform territories like western Nigeria into desired healthy locations for European personnel or colonized Africans. In the first two decades of the twentieth century, most Africans resisted the preventive health measures introduced in Yoruba towns, including environmental sanitation projects to reduce mosquito breeding spots. This was not simply because the initiative threatened African livelihood but rather because many Africans were too poor to pay the cost of the British modernizing projects, including pipe-borne water and odor-proof latrine buckets. As most Africans resisted some of these initiatives and negotiated others to improve their health and social conditions, their politics of resistance shaped public health development in western Nigeria. This is significant to African history because it reveals how the administrative policing of environmental sanitation and health adds nuance to our understanding of empire, particularly the complex relationship between Africans of different social classes and between Africans and the colonial governments in Western Nigerian towns. / Dissertation / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) / This dissertation is about the history of British preventive health in western Nigeria from the late nineteenth century to the end of the second world war. It contributes to the social history of medicine, health, and environment as it explores Africans’ experience of British imperial hygiene and public sanitation programs. Specifically, the study focuses on how public health projects such as potable water, public latrine, and waste management shaped people’s lives and how Africans shaped the health initiatives in return. The study argues that most of the preventive health programs the British colonial authorities introduced in western Nigerian towns during the period under review had a minimal impact on African health. This was because the colonial government and most Africans had opposing views on how public health initiatives should be executed in an environment of budget restraints and poverty. The study thus shows how Africans resisted some public health initiatives and negotiated others in an attempt to improve their health and social conditions. By exploring major colonial initiatives that sought to transform the Nigerian environment into a more healthy place and the people into environmentally responsible subjects, the study argues that colonized Africans were not passive onlookers during the transformation of their public health system. Rather, their politics of resistance shaped colonial health development.

Comparative study of the testing tools Ghost Inspector and Selenium

Kristensson, Dennis January 2017 (has links)
The study evaluates the automatic testing tools: Ghost Inspector and Selenium. and focuses on comparing them in terms of the set up and maintenance processes. The study includes a limited literature study and two case studies. The purpose is to evaluate the tools and provide guidelines for choosing a regression testing tool when testing the functionality of web applications.IStone use Ghost Inspector as regressions testing tool on web applications, since it offers an effective set up and maintenance process. Selenium requires more effort to set up and maintain, since Selenium is not a service. The Ghost Inspector environment comforts iStone with the ability of executing test continuously and supplies the latest test results to the project team.

Det är också så här...Varför ska han komma till frivården? : Frivårdsinspektörers upplevelser i arbete med irreguljära migranter dömda för brott / “It Is Also Like This… Why Should He Come to the Probation Office?” : Experiences of Probation Inspector´s Working with Irregular Migrants Convicted of Crimes

Erixon, Karin January 2022 (has links)

Viktor Barvitius (1834-1902) / Viktor Barvitius (1834-1902)

Klouzová, Aneta January 2012 (has links)
English abstract: In this my master thesis I attempt to depicture comprehensively the life-work of Viktor Barvitius (1834 - 1902), one of the Czech Pioneers of Modern Realism. Tracing the fates and influences that had formed the oeuvre of this fancier of urban turmoil helps us to figure out his positron within the kontext of period art. Barvitiuses creation embraces all main domains of painting of the time: portrayals, historical painting, genre; it has reached its peak during his stay in France between 1865 and 1867. For his immediate reaction to the French Modern Realism and together with Karel Purkyně and Soběslav Pinkas, Barvitius represents one of the prophets of the Czech Programme Realism. In 1877, Barvitius got a commission as an inspector of the SVPU Art Gallery; Czech museum culture is a great deal due to his activity on the field. Barvitiuses whole life artistic work, both theoric and practical, make him an important figure of Czech cultural history. Hooked illustration and period and later reviews make an integral part of my thesis. It also includes the list of Barvitiuses art pieces owned by Czech museums and galleries, Czech National Gallery in Prague, the art pieces that were the subjects of auction-sale and the inventory of his art work.

Abbas, Moussa 03 December 2015 (has links)
Vliv nových institutů na kulturu řízení stavebního podniku / The Impact of New Institutions on the Culture of Managing Construction Enterprise

Březina, Josef January 2013 (has links)
The dissertation deals with the management culture of a construction company in connection with the new roles that are introduced in the Czech Republic (CR), especially after it became a member state of the European Union. In the introduction to the dissertation, two hypotheses are proposed. In the following theoretical part, it deals with the first general definition of corporate culture and ethics linked to the quality of work and new roles. In order to understand these difficult times, which are characterized by various types of crises, an analysis of the construction industry is made. Next, a description of the legislative developments in the CR is made and the influence of computer technology in construction management is marginally mentioned. It’s implementing the new technology that has an increasing impact on the organization and quality of work. The ability to use computer technology has in essence become a measure of the level of development of the management culture in the given construction company. The main theoretical part defines the roles in question, including their historical development, origin and the cause of their occurrence in both the CR and the neighboring countries.
