Interactive infographics for communicating sustainability : Use of an interactive infographic in explaining a complex sustainability framework for companiesEsparza Salas, Rodrigo January 2023 (has links)
The natural world is under immense and increasing pressure caused by human activity. The adjustment from a state of declining nature to a more sustainable world requires changes of social and economic activities by individuals, societies, and the private sector. There are some initiatives to assist companies in the development of more sustainable practices in their operations and their value chains that are often complex and require dedicated communication efforts. Information graphics can be an efficient multimodal method for the communication of complex information. Adding interactivity to infographics can also promote a user’s curiosity and engagement. In this study, I produced an interactive infographic using principles of human-centred design, that helps explaining a sustainability framework with illustrated example actions that companies can take in their transformation towards sustainability in their direct operations, their value chains, and associated natural environments. The sustainability actions in the framework are categorised depending on their effect on the environment: from reducing the impacts on nature, to promoting recovery and restoration of natural environment and transforming business models and attitudes. An interactive infographic format can facilitate the understanding of these different actions by combining appealing novel images, text, and the possibility to filter information on demand. The desired effect of the infographic is to be informative, to be relevant to real-life companies, and to inspire companies to learn more about sustainability methods and start their journey towards a better future. I performed usability tests and user experience surveys to obtain qualitative data to evaluate the functioning of the artefact and its desired effects. The results suggests that the infographic is informative, relevant and succeeds in engaging users in the subject of sustainability. The results also showed that functionality is an aspect of these kind of design artefacts that users value for a better experience.

e experiência do usuário. / [en] Since the 80s, many areas of expertise in the design field became possible by
means of computer technology. Academic environments dedicated to digital media
have been conceived and operate via approaches that remain unconsolidated in the
field of design knowledge. In the case of the undergraduate program in Digital
Media Design at PUC-Rio (Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro),
implemented in 2007, professors graduated in digital media are still absent since the
few designers that successfully completed this academic degree are recently graduated.
This aspect contributes to the mixture of different areas of knowledge and
permits different expectations as of the results to be pursued by digital medias.
These expectations emphasizes, in one hand, the formal aspects of the project
and, in the other, the possible experiences of the consumers of such project. This
dissertation investigates the criteria used for the academic evaluation addressed
to the projects final results and shall be constructed through the key concepts of
project synthesis, language of form and user experience.

A General Framework for Interactive Television NewsSellers, Benjamin Bart 13 July 2012 (has links) (PDF)
We design a complete interactive television news system. We develop a news production system that allows for the creation of flexible, content-rich interactive news. This system embraces a general creation process to interactive news that is built on top of a newscast model that evolves from and conforms with the current production newscast model. It allows for content sharing and content reuse. We also create an interactive news viewing system that adapts well to a living room environment. It contains several interactive features designed to give the viewer control and allow them to watch the news when, where, and how they want to. We perform a formative evaluation through a user study and interviews. Our results show that the production system allows fast, quality construction of interactive news. Viewers enjoy the interactivity and control the viewing system provides, but more work needs to be done to improve ease of use. Our system increases extra content visibility and usage over previous studies through additional features, more content, and direct invites to viewers. We also produce and deliver the news over an entire two-week period to a large number of viewers, making it the largest study done according to our knowledge.

Investigating the impact of interactivity on the credibility of digital news mediaDiess, Carolina-Itsaso January 2020 (has links)
Consuming news and defining its credibility play a large role in our everyday lives. The digitalisation of news has enabled new interactions with the medium, that have yet to be analysed in their impact on credibility. This study aims to investigate the effects interactivity has on perceived credibility and how user interactions can be applied to the digital news medium. The analysis is done through a user -centric approach using both qualitative and quantitative methods based on design thinking. The methods used include a digital questionnaire, user interviews and prototype testing. Using these methods we find that no strong association can be made between the frequency of use of specific digital interactions such as sharing, liking and commenting and perceived credibility. While most users see an added benefit in having more interactive elements on a digital platform, it cannot be concluded that overall higher levels of interactivity lead to higher credibility. However, if interactivity is used to enable people to voice their opinion an increase in trust can be built, which subsequently increases credibility.
