Rubec, Emily-Jayn 05 1900 (has links)
The end of the 15th century introduces a new era in America. The arrival of Spanish explorers, conquistadors and colonists on the New Continent marks the beginning of American History. In works written during the first decades of colonization, most Natives merely take on the role of objects. Following the indoctrination of part of the Native population, this passive role becomes more active when some Natives decide to make their voices heard by the means of writing. This is exactly what Felipe Guamán Poma de Ayala decides to do in his 1615 Nueva coronica y buen gobierno, written to King Phillip III of Spain. This project studies a selection of pictures from the chronicle as intersemiotic cultural translations of colonial society that translate colonial events, including the ethnic power struggles within the social hierarchy, using semiotic units belonging to various culture codes (Spanish, Catholic, Andean). Our goal is to show that the hybridity that shapes the semiotic system used in the target text reveals the foreignizing nature of the translation, and in turn, the antagonistic relations with the official colonial ideology.

Daniel Keyes: Flowers for Algernon - české překlady a dramatizace / Daniel Keyes: Flowers for Algernon - Czech translations and dramatizations

Melicharová, Lucie January 2013 (has links)
The thesis looks at the Czech life of the Flowers for Algernon short story written by Daniel Keyes. It aims to present an analytical comparison of the short story translations and dramatizations created in the Czech cultural environment and to define their invariants. The theoretical part of the thesis informs the reader about the life and work of Daniel Keyes and depicts the process of creation of the short story in question. Furthermore, it outlines its main themes and stylistic features, as well as its reception both in the U. S. and abroad. Special attention is paid to the reception in Czechoslovakia, or rather the Czech Republic, namely to the two short story translations (Černý, 1976; Markus, 2003) and the three original dramatizations (Říhová, 1988; Hruška, 1993; Heger, 2010). All pieces of work are presented in their broader socio-cultural context, with due regard to their authors. This contextualisation lays the foundations for the subsequent translatological analysis, which is based on Gideon Toury's descriptive model (1995). In accordance with Toury, the Czech short stories are seen as products of the target culture. Therefore, the assumed translations are first assessed in terms of their acceptability in this culture and these hypotheses are then tested by means of comparison of...

La chanson d’auteur dans la société italienne des années 1960 et 1970 : une étude cantologique et interculturelle / Songs by singer-songwriters in the Italian society in the 1960s and 1970s : a cantological and intercultural study

Pruvost, Céline 11 December 2013 (has links)
This doctoral thesis analyzes a specific cultural object, the songs by singer-songwriters in Italy, between 1958 and 1980. The chosen methodological approach, cantology, consists in crossing analysis of text, music and interpretation. The study also looks at links between songs and Italian cultural and social context in which they were created, as well as and influences from other cultures, with francophone and anglophone songs. The first part provides a series of benchmarks to seize this object. Redrawing emergence of the neologism "cantautore" and expression "canzone d’autore" allows to precisely define the field. Historical perspective is given, as well as geographical and biographical elements regarding the authors of the corpus. The second part gathers methodological and aesthetic reflections, by offering a synthesis of innovative and multidisciplinary approaches which allow not to reduce the study of the song to that of its text, thus avoiding yet too frequent assimilation with poetry. An analysis comparing singable and non-singable translations shows how writing music deeply affects writing texts. The third part analyzes the major innovations introduced in the song in these two decades : at first considering thematic content changes with regard to the Italian legislative changes, then focusing inside of the song, and finally studying the layout of these songs. This path leads to the study of song genre interactions with other languages, through forms including image, such as film or rock opera.

Poesia concreta e mídia digital: o caso Augusto de Campos

Carvalho, Audrei Aparecida Franco de 17 September 2007 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Audrei Aparecida Franco de Carvalho.pdf: 19498370 bytes, checksum: 9ed446b71a9cde11a0ddae501835378d (MD5) Previous issue date: 2007-09-17 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The dialog between Augusto de Campos work and available medias in each period, it is de start point for this research. This affirmation suggests the investigation about poetic procedures put in practice by Augusto de Campos at the possibility of translation to electronic-digital support. The work hypothesis are: a) Augusto de Campos poetry is intersemiotic; b) the intersemiotic features of Augusto de Campos poetry, always connected at new media technologies, presume unexpected concepts of translation and poetry; c) these features presume a translation in constant process. The theorical and methodological foundations are divided in three parts: the concrete poetry and Augusto de Campos poetry will be analysed through the critical studies about concrete poetry, that was done by the concrete poets in: Teoria da Poesia Concreta (1987). The second part is formed by studies of the procedures used to the translation of concrete poems to digital media, it was found at: Ertho Albino de Souza, Ricardo Araújo, Julio Plaza, Melo e Castro s work. The last part of this research is formed by the translation of poetamenos poems (1953) to digital media, they are: poetamenos, paraíso pudendo, lygia fingers, nossos dias com cimento, eis os amantes and dias dias dias. The selection of these poems isn t by chance. Since the 1950 s, Augusto de Campos indicated the need of using new medias in the artistic development: Mas luminosos, ou filmletras, quem os tivera! The translation practice from this research appeals to Julio Plaza s studies in: Tradução Intersemiótica (1987) and Processos criativos com os meios eletrônicos: poéticas digitais (1998). Besides, we use the Walter Benjamin s critical study: A Tarefa do Tradutor (1923), and Haroldo de Campos studies about creative translation, with these studies we intent to understand how a creative text reacts at a translation to another support. This research is important to Communication Studies because it brings the light to the relation among art, communication and technology, they are currently at Augusto de Campos work. The relation among these fields happens by the incorporation of elements and procedures found in the press, magazines, bright displays, Internet, and other places. It s important to remember the relationship between Brazilian concrete poetry and artistic moviments found all over the world. The conclusions achieved show the existence of the relation between Augusto de Campos poetry and electronic poetry. We notice, for example, the concern of both with the receiver, the moviment, the connection between image and sound, etc / O ponto de partida dessa pesquisa é o diálogo entre os textos poéticos de Augusto de Campos e as mídias disponíveis em cada período.

Our goal is to bring forth a dialogue established by these four objective elements, based on the analysis of the congress of their individual poetics, and, in light of this, to contribute to a process that appears to be contemporarily inescapable, the relations between cinema and literature. To this end, the following dissertation will consist of the study of regularities of behavior in the adaptation process presented in the corpus before us as a means of deducing and describing possible systemic norms that underlie and regulate the transpositions between the beat literary system and the contemporary cinematographic system. On the other hand, but not separately, as we understand adaptation as rounded semiotic systems, we must consider the contexts in which they are inserted and what relations they actualize within their arrival system, not only that but investigate possible analogies to the departure system, We hope to demonstrate that these different strands of the problem are intertwined and connected if we create a common filed of tension in which the art-works are able to sustain dialogue – this we endeavored to do with the stablishment of an organizing principle, the common theme of madness. Our goal is, ultimately, to try to equate the importance of the product of adaptation and its counterpart in our analysis, transforming the field of Translation Studies into something closer to Compared Studies – of Literature or Cinema, as if our objects of research were ontologically comparable entities. We base our endeavor to achieve this task in the works of Walter Benjamin (2012), Mikhail Bakhtin (2010), Itamar Even-Zohar (1990), Jacques Derrida (1995), Maurice Blanchot (1987), Michel Foucault (1989), Gideon Toury (1995), Patrick Catrysse (1992), amongst others.

Batistella, Danielly January 2014 (has links)
Ascending reading media, the imagetic Japanese narrative are composed by singular visual and verbal languages, by specific illustrative strokes and distinctive textual themes part of a personality. The hipergenre manga and anime, in the share of distinctive elements such as publishing and internal classification in a range of autonomous genres and subgenres, yet linked by coincident elements differ from each other – as well as the sequential art and the animation from beyond the borders of Japan – as to the styling of the illustrative strokes, the content of the narrative, the illustration and the characterization of characters. Then, in order to such aspects permeate the reading and interpretation of the image as well as the verbal texts, one infers the coupling of these elements to a context in which it assigns a meaning in historical, ideological, social, cultural and behavioral levels. Thus, in the representation, in the inter-semiotic translation or in the engender of conceptions and interpretations of Japanese culture, social actions, ideologies, religious doctrines or philosophies and specific attributions to feminine and masculine subjects one searches references to grasp manga and anime as producers and enablers of reflections. In this paradigm, the present study aims to analyze the use of visual and verbal language in the sagas of manga and anime part of the corpus of this study, examining the way in which each of these languages proceeds to represent, to intersemiotic translate or to engender different historical, social, ideological, cultural and behavioral aspects of Japan. With the purpose of encompassing the subject, initially one delineates an overview the origin, the rise and transformation of manga and anime as reading phenomenon in Japan, in Brazil and in the West. One presents the genres and subgenres of these reading medias, differentiating them according on the targeted readership, verifying their specificities, their thematic classification and their internal classification accordant to female and male subjects and their age rate. Ultimately, one ascertains changes in the representation of Japanese culture, society and ideologies part of manga and when this is transposed into anime as a response to a demanding reader from outside of Japan.

This current work starts with the hipothesis that Le Corbusier´s writings and architecture towards João Cabral de Melo Neto transcend the influences dictated by the intellectual and artistic ambience of that time. The poet´s interest for plastic arts and likeness toward the idea of literary work construction is widely known, and it results in a rationally elaborate, calculated and measured poetry. As in the architectonic making, in which the project precedes the construction, poetic making is assumed like a process of material construction preceded by the projectual exercise based on strict lucidity, clarity, contention and calculation premises. A reader of Le Corbusier, João Cabral takes, from the modernist ideologies, formal features and composition procedures which emphasize the dispossession, accuracy and geometrization of the constructed forms. Nothing is given by chance; everything is calculated, obeying a strict construction system. “Machine à habiter” and “machine à émouvoir” are two expressions used by Le Corbusier to define his conception on architecture, in general, and on the house, in particular: the practical and mythical functions of the building/house will be met through the construction of buildings constructed according the economy and calculations in order to cater to human needs in living and plastic emotion, which is reached with the simple geometric forms. However, it was not only the economy and calculations lessons, learned from the French- Swiss architect, that the poet embodied into his work. “Machine à habiter” and “machine à émouvoir”, the architectonic object demands and presupposes the creation of interior space that contains man and with which he can interact. It is in this aspect – space construction – that the Cabral-Corbusier dialogue is more provocative: albeit verbal and bidimensional, once words are displayed on a field... Les drailles féminines de « Grande Sertão Veredas » de João Guimarães Rosa, dans la traduction intersémiotique photographique de Maureen Bisilliat / Female paths "Grande Sertão" of João Guimarães Rosa, in the photographic intersemiotic translation of Maureen Bisilliat

Castro da Cunha, Luiz Manoel 19 November 2014 (has links)
This thesis conducted an analysis of the relationship between literature and photography, with the object of study the work: the novel Grande Sertão: Veredas (1956) by João Guimarães Rosa, which has translated for the photography of Maureen Bisilliat in the work, A João Guimarães Rosa (1969). Since its inception, photography rehearsed some steps in the dialogue with the literature. However, were the vanguard of movements that showed greater interaction, leading questions about the artistic work not only on the picture that tried to consolidate as art as well as art by itself in general. Surrealism can be considered as a landmark dialogue, innovation, artistic pioneer among these languages. In the literature, the study of the interaction with writers provided a brief knowledge of some names in the literature that dialogued with photography in his works, lovers of the photographic medium, were also considered photographers. In this work, we treat photography as a inter-semiotic translation, or even creative transposition. The photographic image is not only meant to illustrate the words of the writer. It dialogues with the text, and this construction does not occur randomly and direct way. The research demonstrated that the creative process is similar on both artists the diversity of its aesthetic. The two express their specificities, but at the same time, they nevertheless share equivalents, either convergences or divergences, enabled through metaphorized pictures of backcountry environment and its inhabitants. In intersemiotic dialogue built on João Guimarães Rosa, it was necessary to fragment the novel Grande Sertão: Veredas in captions for the picture to explore the latent feminine in this work. This femininity has been revealed through literary theory that presents a critical rich fortune about the female in Grande Sertão: Veredas. The photographic essay is driven in that the characters perceive the images surfacing through their legends, in addition to several female members silently emerge from images which related durandiano universe belonging to the nocturnal regime. Maureen Bisilliat, makes us believe in the possibility of reframing of Rosa's work, the relationships between reality and fiction, such as duality present from the surrealism that communes with the Imaginary of Gilbert Durand.

The present work does an analysis of the intersemiotic intercourse established between the literary work Il Decameron (1348-1353), of Giovanni Boccaccio (1313-1375), and the namesake movie, of Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922-1975), regarding as the main objective to find out the artistic transcreation operated by Pasolini, above all, in what touches the metalinguistic constructions present in the literary text that are cinematographically retraced by the film maker. In the syncretic text, the metalanguage is intrinsically bound to the poetical, following Pasolini’s own theoretical conceptions exposed in Empirismo Eretico (2000). The concepts in this book, like the famous cinema of poetry or the language of reality, guide the selection of other theorists, who help in the quest to prove that both Boccaccio as well as Pasolini make metalinguistic operations, as the narrative frames created by him expound the introspection of the artistic labour, working, this way, as authorial marks. Thus, the Decameron’s two versions do not communicate only through the theme, but through the way their narratives are structured because Pasolini’s work is built hereby cinematographic solutions which allude to Boccaccio’s discourse construction
