Sportjournalistiken - En spelplan för alla? : En kvalitativ undersökning om hur sportjournalister upplever sin arbetssituation utifrån ett jämställdhetsperspektiv

Lidberg Vikström, Ina, Lidberg Vikström, Hanna, Belay, Judith January 2023 (has links)
Sports journalism has since its beginning been predominantly produced by men, and it took a long time for women to be welcomed into the industry. The main purpose of this study is to compare how female and male sports journalists experience their work situation from an equality perspective. For further understanding, we will explain how the participants found their way into the field of journalism.Semi structured interviews were conducted on six participants. Three male, and three female. The results of the interviews showed that none of the journalists experiences any form of discrimination at their current workplace. Although, the women have all experienced at some point in their careers that the boyish culture affected their work. They have sometimes felt that they are not taken as seriously as their male colleagues and are treated in the same way. This from both audience, readers and colleagues. The men themselves have never experienced any gender-based discrimination, but they have all witnessed female colleagues being victimized.Hegemonic masculinity has a great grip on the world of sports. That a male norm prevails becomes clear in the examples when the male respondents talk about their female colleagues who are treated badly by male athletes. There it becomes clear that even though the newsrooms and reporters themselves strive for an equal and gender-aware workplace, it is not always the newsroom that decides what working conditions should prevail for the journalists out in the field. All respondents believe that sports journalism can become more equal, even though they don't personally have any problems that effects their daily work. They believe that one must think more actively and reflect on the problems that exist in order for there to really be an improvement in the big picture.

Storkaas, Adelina January 2015 (has links)
South Africa is a country in transition with struggles and structures in society reflecting a past of colonialism and apartheid. The government has implemented new laws such as the Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment Act to achieve sustainable development and companies and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) have started projects to improve living conditions of previously disadvantaged persons. The purpose with the thesis is to bring understanding to how journalists and companies/ NGOs look at their roles in society and understand their relation to sustainable development projects and policies. Qualitative interviews with ten journalists from different newspapers and freelancers were conducted. Also nine representatives of seven companies and NGOs with projects concerning extreme poverty, inequality, social mobility, discrimination and social cohesion on farms were interviewed. Normative theories of the media and social responsibility theory were used to analyze the qualitative interviews. The study showed journalists’ and people working with projects’ views on government’s inability of tackling societies’ struggles alone and the requirement of private initiatives. Furthermore, the study showed the aim of spreading information about social sustainability projects differed among persons on both sides. Journalists highlighted the importance of news value, pleasing their readers and inform the public about good examples. Journalists expressed that companies, NGOs and government have also responsibilities to spread information. Some companies did not feel this responsibility however; they believed in word of mouth and did not approach the press or public about their social work.

Citizen journalism and codes of journalistic standards and ethics

Andersson Hjelm, Olivia January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this study is to explore how one citizen journalist, Joakim Lamotte, reflects on codes of journalistic standards and ethics. Lamotte is a Swedish citizen journalist who publishes texts reporting on events in society on his Facebook-page. From the Facebook-page, five texts have been sampled for analysis in this study. This is done through using Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis as a methodology. The analysis is supported by Erving Goffman's theory of self presentation and Rom Harré and Luk van Langenhove's positioning theory as theorethical frameworks, to explore Lamotte's self presentation and how he is positioning in his role as a citizen journalist. Some of the main results of the study are that Lamotte uses the term independent journalist in the self presentation of his role, but at times includes himself in the group of the public (his audience). Throughout the samples he positions himself against professional journalists and mainstream media, as a way to reinforce his position as an independent journalist. While doing so, he criticises their choices and justifies his own choices relating to codes of journalistic standards and ethics. The study is an example of one citizen journalist with a large audience, in a Swedish context, reflects on codes of journalistic standards and ethics.

Nguyenová, Thuong Ly January 2017 (has links)
Médecins Sans Frontières is one of the most respected humanitarian organisations in the world, they focus mainly on providing medical care in places of emergency and war. These places are also interesting for journalists who can take advantage of the protection on the missions while also acquiring unique stories. Working in conflicted areas under a protection of an organisation is called embedded journalism. This concept has been until now studied in connection with army when journalists travel with soldiers. Therefore, their view of war can be distorted. However, a journalist who travels with Médecins Sans Frontières may also have a distorted view of world. Twelve journalists from around the world, who visited the missions and documented the work of doctors, gave interviews for this diploma thesis. In the interviews, they described their experiences, the advantages and disadvantages of being embedded, and how the organisation may have influenced their work. Several Médecins Sans Frontières workers have also shared their experience. The interviews were put in context by a content analysis that focused on the articles and photographs made on missions by these journalists.

馬杰堯, Ma, Jie Yao Unknown Date (has links)
Studies have shown a discrepancy between what journalism education provides and what the industry desires. The root of this problem lies in the absence of providing procedural knowledge to students in classrooms. To provide a solution to this issue, this study examined the Self-Directed Learning (SDL) interactive model adopted by the Student Sports Union. Employing a semi-structured in-depth interview, this study examined the process through which eight journalists in the Student Sports Union (SSU) became experts. The results show that the SSU journalists’ SDL model promotes theoretical knowledge, hands-on experience, and an applied skill set for journalism, which are useful for transforming student journalists from novice to expert.

Štáfová, Monika January 2013 (has links)
The objective of this thesis, The Image of a Journalist in Hollywood Film, is to interpret the images of journalists created in Hollywood films in the period from 1997 to 2007 by means of qualitative and comparative analyses. The analysis is carried out based on journalist characters appearing as protagonists in thirteen motion pictures from the given period. The comparison of the characters is executed within three groups, classified according to the type of journalist - investigative journalists, celebrity and lifestyle journalists and television anchormen and reporters. The characters are compared to each other from the point of view of physical appearance, character traits, family and social relations, their attitude towards authorities, the most common stereotypes and other character's perception of them. The summarization and data evaluation of the analysis confirms that journalist stereotypes do not often occur in this period, the protagonists are predominantly portrayed as heroes and that the differences outweigh the similarities.

Journalistik i den digitala eran - Förutsättningarna och villkoren digitaliseringen ställer på framtidens roll som journalist

Hall, Gustaw, Greko, Jens January 2020 (has links)
Journalism has in recent years been challenged by digitalisation and societal changes and the industry is moving towards a negative trend. This is a case study that examines the terms and conditions digitalisation applies to the role of journalists in order to try to gain a better understanding of how technology shapes the journalists of the future. The survey was conducted through qualitative interviews of journalists and editors in the industry. The theory was mainly derived from relevant literature in informatics and media technology, which became the backbone of the case study. The results of this study shows that digitalisation primarily sets demands on multicompetence and flexibility on the role of a journalist. Digitization challenges the organization's corporate culture and the journalist's personal values and ideals rather than reformatting the role. The study points out that sociotechnical determinism is what determines the future of the role of journalist and journalism as a whole. Thus, suggestions are made for further research on how society can use digitalization to more easily manage what the study calls the "Generation Cycle”.
