”Man vill ju bli berörd” : En studie av sjuksköterskestudenters läsning av skönlitteratur och biografier / “You want to be emotionally affected” : A study of nursing students’ reading of fiction and autobiographies

Oscarsson, Ulla-Britt January 2010 (has links)
This Master’s thesis is connected to an interdisciplinary field between humanities and health care; “humanistic medicine” or “humanistic nursing”. The object of the investigation is nursing students’ experiences of reading fiction and autobiographies as course literature. In semi-structured interviews a group of students talk about their reading. A central issue is whether there is a difference in the way the students describe their reading of fiction during the nursing programme compared with their statements about their reading of other more scientific texts. Another question is if reading of fiction and autobiographies makes it possible for nursing students to develop compassion and empathy and if this has any impact, in the students’ opinion, on their future meetings with patients? According to Nussbaum and Rosenblatt the reading of fiction, especially novels, provides readers with the opportunity to identify and sympathize with narrative characters. These abilities could help the reader to understand the needs and aspirations of other human beings. The theoretical framework in the analysis of the interviews is based upon Nussbaum’s and Rosenblatt’s theories concerning the reader-text relation. The result of the investigation is that it is possible to understand nursing students’ explanations about what the reading of this special fictional course literature means to them in correlation with these theories. Reading fiction during nurse training gives insight and knowledge about individual experiences of illness and can, according to the informants, be a help in understanding future patients.

Biblioteksanvändning & Läsning. Tre användares levnadsberättelser. / Library use & Reading. Three life stories

Dehlin, Hanna January 2008 (has links)
The aim of this Master’s thesis is to examine how a person’s library use and reading can change with time. It also examines how different factors in a person’s context or in the life situation can affect these activities. The analysis is based upon qualitative interviews with three persons, two women and one man between 67 and 69 years of age. The study is conducted with tools from the life history-method, and is construed from a hermeneutic viewpoint. The theoretical starting points are Mieke Bal’s theory of narrative and her concepts of narrative elements, Andersson’s and Skot-Hansen’s concepts that illuminates different ways to use the library and also the concepts about different forms of reading that derives from the SKRIN-project. I have had the opportunity to illustrate how a person’s library use and reading habits can change through life. I cannot see that neither library use nor reading habits follows a certain standardized pattern through life; both activities seem to depend on factors in the environment and in the person’s interests. Different factors also seem to have various importances for different persons and do not always influence two persons in a similar way. Library use and reading habits also had various importance for the persons studied in different periods of their lives. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Visuell hierarki och läsmönster : en studie om kontrast, storlek och positionering

Sova, Jemi, Karim, Bobby January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to identify the most effective property of a text or a page to achieve visual hierarchy, which is a tool for getting the desired flow of attention in a page or a web page by giving certain elements a degree of weight in contrast, size and positioning. We want to give an opportunity for further research rather than an absolute conclusion of how it really is. There are more ways to manipulate text to achieve the desired visual hierarchy but we choose the most common. This paper is based on an experiment involving 50 participants with an online questionnaire and three self-made pictures where we will evaluate the results, compare them with other theories and calculate the most effective enhancer of attention. We have also developed a hypothesis on what the results will show. Our study proposes that contrast in color might be the most important factor to achieve and maintain visual hierarchy.
