Enseigner et apprendre en ligne : vers un modèle de la navigation sur des sites Web de formation universitaire / Teach and learn on-line : towards a model of educational browsing

Meza Fernandez, Sandra 29 April 2013 (has links)
This thesis presents a methodology capable of modelling the course of educational browsing of an EIAH user to visualise it in order to interpret it and to anticipate. The learning profiles influence browsing styles in e-learning environment. Based on a methodology able to create models of the browsing behaviour of a user and to anticipate the following step on a platform, our study tries to widen the knowledge of the efficiency of different learning styles. The applied methodology is the analysis of the marks left by the user taken from 63 archives of Web logs including 4637 lines of register and 13 206 possible choices of modules. This research study combines theoretical approaches mixing semiology, sciences of information, cognitive psychology and sciences of education. Three observations have been led, giving information on users’ profile, representations of courses and impacts of the mode of learning in the choice of working features offered on the platform. The main contributions are two types: On one hand, the elaboration of a tool converting tracks of files log in signs possible to be visualized as courses of educational browsing. On the other hand, the confirmation of the relationship between ways of learning and styles of browsing giving rise to a method of anticipation of a new choice of module on the digital working platform. The practical applications aim at making exploitable these tracks in university education which can be of use to the elaboration of quality assessments (resources preferred, less used features) and the identification of the needs of educational mediation for clarification of the task or of the process (identified by the emphasis on the module of instructions, on time invested by a group or repeated routes). This thesis addresses mainly persons in charge of integrating ICTS at university level and further, university students and designers of learning tools.

Santos, Givaldo Almeida dos 16 March 2012 (has links)
The increasing use of educational softwares in the process of teaching and learning between geographically dispersed citizens in the contemporary society is an emergent concern in the studies of researchers of the area of Education in the field of Distance Education (EaD). Education Online uses the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to operate its processes in order to provide learning through collaborative practices in distance learning courses that want to use a pedagogical architecture in accordance with the teaching digital network technologies and teaching resources in digital format. Thus, this research contributes to the development and/or customization of educational softwares that must consider human factors as a central element. In particular, the Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) used in EaD, because of the difficulties encountered by users in the use of the interfaces educational digital environments. So, the methodology adopted in this research paper is a case study in a qualitative and quantitative standpoint, which has the main objective to suggest recommendations for projects of interfaces centered on the learner to the concepts of Usability Engineering, Human-Computer Interface and Constructivist Pedagogy. The Analyses on the pedagogical architecture of VLE/CESAD/UFS, from the interactions of four groups of students in distance learning course in Bachelor of Public Administration of the Centre of Distance Education of the Federal University of Sergipe in the period 2011.1, showed the results that confirm the learning style of the students as a more human factor to guide the designs of VLE centered in the apprentice. But also to provide synergy between collective intelligence, digital network technologies and learning through collaborative practices. The results also show that it is possible to lead the interface and instructional design of the virtual environment in tune with the style of the students learning to improve the technical and pedagogical usability of digital and educational interfaces.

Styles cognitifs des élèves chinois de l'enseignement secondaire en Chine et leurs influences sur l'éducation mathématique / Cognitive styles of Chinese students at secondary school and their influences on the mathematics education

Wang, Mo 28 September 2016 (has links)
The cognitive style is a well-developed and studied domain in western countries, especially in USA, but it is still a new ground for Chinese researchers. This conception is about the personality, the way to treat the received information for individuals, and it can also influence the education, which includes of course the mathematic education. In China, the mathematic is a principle subject at school in the Chinese educational system. With a special background in the society of China, a special educational system has been formed. The secondary education is the most typical in this educational system, and we need to think about the most frequent cognitive styles among Chinese students and also the cognitive style of each student to find the best methods to make the mathematic education better and more appropriate. For this destination, we need to consider the side of learning and the side of teaching. Therefore, our work will start by a presentation of the researches of cognitive styles and those mature theories, which can be our theoretical base, and then we will connect the education of mathematic with cognitive styles by a presentation of the situation of mathematics education in China. With the results of our research, we will analysis and make some advises about the politics of education, of the teaching and learning methods to try to ameliorate the mathematic education in China with help of cognitive styles and this research.

Experiences of learners when a computer simulation is used to aid teaching the photoelectric effect

De Beer, Isabella Constance January 2014 (has links)
This study explores the use of computer simulations to supplement learning in Science lessons, specifically the photoelectric effect. This study uses the Felder and Silverman Learning Style Model (FSLSM) as a theoretical framework to investigate the use of simulations as it provides a useful lens through which to explore the consistent way in which a person learns regardless of the teaching method or content learnt. Using this theoretical framework, this research investigates the experiences of learners with different learning styles when an interactive computer simulation is used to aid teaching the photoelectric effect in Physical Science. This case study used qualitative data collected from 17 computer literate Grade 12 learners in three different classes at a secondary school in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. Analysis of the data collected in this study shows that when the simulation is used in Science, the learning experience of the learners is enhanced. Positive experiences for all four the Dimensions in the FSLSM could be indentified when the ICS was used and this could be linked to specific learning styles. Sensory and Intuitive learners enjoyed conducting the experiment that would normally require unsafe conditions and that the experiment could be set up quickly and with ease. The different dimension brought about by using the ICS was enjoyed by Intuitive learners. The visualisation of the abstract physical systems enhanced the learning for Visual and Verbal learners, whilst Global and Sequential learners felt that they gained a deeper understanding of the photoelectric phenomenon by using the ICS. Reflective learners enjoyed the precision of their pseudo-experimental data, but the Active learners felt that they did not understand the graphs given in the ICS. The interactive control variables and the fact that the learners had an option to work in either a group or on their own, benefitted both Active and Reflective learners. / Dissertation (MEd)--University of Pretoria, 2014. / gm2014 / Science, Mathematics and Technology Education / unrestricted

From demonstration to individual knowledge : a study on interaction between communication and learning in sloyd

Mattisson, Morgan, Persson, Emil January 2020 (has links)
In this study we try to find answers on how a practical demonstration, performed by a teacher, can be conducted in both effective and pedagogic ways. We also explore the transition from a teacher lead period to a period defined by practical work and understanding performed by pupils. The subject studied is the swedish sloyd, but we think the challenges are mainly the same in any school subject. Through research on literature in areas such as rhetorics, leadership and pedagogy we contrast different aspects on the subject with surveys conducted on pupils and interviews with both pupils and teachers. From empirics we conclude that different aspects play important roles in succeeding with bringing a sloyd demonstration into individual pupil knowledge. The teacher’s capacity in preparation and enthralling an audience as well as his or her empathy and knowledge of the mental constitution of the class all play a part. It is also important how well the teacher gives individualized feedback, when pupils start working or no longer do work due to various reasons. Practical factors such as hour of the day and whether the pupils are alert or hungry also do contribute.  Bringing a demonstration from a dull experience into engaged pupil work is a challenging, complex and enjoyable part of a lesson. It may be crucial to the pupil’s future effort making and understanding.

Key human factors in the E-readiness of academic employees at Higher Education institution

Vermeulen, Luni 06 1900 (has links)
Within the context of technological development, the needs and preferences of the 21st century student (Generation Y), the changing higher education environment, the increasing use of technology in teaching and learning, and the significant role of online learning facilitators in e-learning, the e-readiness of academic employees became imperative. Thus, considering the importance of academic employees' e-readiness, the primary objective of the study aims to determine the role of key human factors in their e-readiness, with specific focus on personal work profile patterns, preferred learning style and pace and style of technology adoption. The research problem therefore is how to determine the role of these key human factors in the e-readiness of academic employees. In this respect the study argues that the e-readiness assessment of academic employees must be included in the human resource performance appraisal process. The purpose of this research is to develop a framework for assessing the ereadiness of academic employees during their performance appraisals, as well as determining and assessing the role of key human factors in their e-readiness in order to draft an e-profile which will provide guidance in terms of structuring unique training and development approaches for each e-profile. Once accademic employees' e-readiness has been assessed during their performance appraisals, they can be plotted on the framework. The outcome of their e-readiness assessments will reveal their e-profiles, which will portray insight into the presence or absence of particular ereadiness indicators, outlined in an e-readiness construct. Subsequently, a personal development plan can be drafted, making provision for uniquely structured training and development interventions, best suited for each accademic employees' e-profile. The most suitable motivating factors for each employee will also be considered during the drafting of the personal development plan. The empirical research by means of a self-administered questionnaire and a focus group discussion revealed two prominent e-profiles indicating various levels of ereadiness, namely an early adopter-pragmatist-compliance e-profile and an early majority-theorist-steadiness e-profile. The findings made it evident that the traits portrayed by a person belonging to a certain technology adoption category show similarities to traits portrayed by particular learning styles and personal work profile patterns. Certain profiles could be identified, based on trends and similarities pertaining to interpersonal traits. The findings further revealed that with an increase in age and teaching experience of respondents (which also imply an increase in age), the willingness to be assessed on e-readiness declined. It was also determined that the human resource performance management policies and practices at the North-West University (NWU) (which is used as case study), do not make provision for the inclusion of e-readiness in performance appraisals of academic employees. Further it became evident that training and development interventions should not only focus on the technical skill of e-learning, but follow a broader teaching and learning approach, also including the philosophy of e-learning and the use and adaptation of teaching and learning strategies to obtain optimal learner learning. The findings of the study thus supported the need for a framework, providing guidance in this regard. Presently, neither the literature of human resource performance appraisal nor the literature of e-readiness or e-learning makes provision for assessing the e-readiness of academic employees. The study thus contributes to the scholarly discourse and knowledge in the field of public human resource management, as sub-field of Public Administration, by developing a theoretical framework (that currently does not exist), consisting of three matrixes for this purpose to determine the role of the key human factors in the e-readiness of academic employees. / Public Administration / D. Invloed van denkontwikkeling op die aanleer van Afrikaans as tweede taal by hoërskoolleerders / The influence that thought development has on high school students when learning Afrikaans as a second language

Noke, Daisy Deseré 11 1900 (has links)
‘n Empiriese ondersoek is uitgevoer waarby 174 hoërskoolleerders betrek is. Denkontwikkeling is nie as ‘n vername faktor geïdentifiseer nie. / The aim of the research focusses on the relationship between thought development (a cognitive variable) and achievement in Afrikaans as a second language. Besides thought development, verbal understanding and memory recollection are also identified as distinctive cognitive variables. Affective variables such as motivation, self-concept and anxiety could also relate to performance in Afrikaans as a second language. Empirical research was conducted amongst 174 High School learners. Cognitive variables, affective variables and learning styles were measured. Resulting from the empirical research, it appears that self-concept, memory recollection, verbal comprehension and motivation are the main variables that impact on the performance of Afrikaans as a second language. Thought process development was not identified as a main factor. Results from the literature study and the empirical research are discussed in order to assist parents and teachers with guidelines to increase achievement in Afrikaans as a second language. / Psychology of Education / M. This study was conducted as a quasi-experimental design. Four classes, which have a total of 127 students, were sampled from a junior high school in Taoyun County. Two classes were assigned as experimental group and the others as control group. The former took “computer -assisted instruction using GSP in mathematics teaching” method learning, while the latter two took “traditional mathematics teaching” method learning respectively. This study used the learning styles inventory (LSI) of Kolb to classify learners into two groups -“active experimentation (AE)” and “reflective observation (RO)”. Two-way ANCOVA was conducted to test all hypotheses in order to find variations of mathematical learning attitudes, mathematical learning achievenments, mathematical learning retention. The study also investigated the views of points of the students in experimental group after the experiment. According to the analysis from the experiment, this study reached the following conclusions︰ 1.In mathematical learning attitudes: (1)Learning styles and teaching methods did’t interact significantly. (2)There was a significant difference between two teaching methods. The effect on experimental group was better than the control group. (3) There was no significant difference between two learning styles. 2.In mathematical learning achievements: (1)Learning styles and teaching methods interact significantly. (2)For the style RO, there was a significant difference between two learning styles. The effect on experimental group was better than the control group. (3)The effct on control group with the style RO was the worst. 3.In mathematical learning retention: (1)Learning styles and teaching methods did’t interact significantly. (2)There was a significant difference between two teaching methods. The effect on experimental group was better than the control group. (3) There was no significant difference between two learning styles. (4)The effct on experimental group with the style RO was the best. 4.After the experiment, most students in experimental group with the style AE said that “the experimental curriculums had provided the actual operation opportunity”; most students in experimental group with the style RO said that “the experimental curriculums had provided the exhaustive explanation and the dynamic demonstration”. They also agreed that the experimental curriculums were better.
