Professoras lésbicas na educação básica de São Paulo: rupturas e construção de visibilidades / Lesbian teachers in the basic education of São Paulo: ruptures and construction of visibilitiesTatiana Carvalho de Freitas 13 April 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this doctoral research is to understand the different meanings of being a lesbian teacher in the school environment. It is a qualitative research and, of a sociological perspective, it dialogues with national and international studies already carried out on the subject, based on the debate on gender, sexualities and heteronormativity. Six public school teachers (state or municipal) from São Paulo were interviewed while they were teaching in three cities: São Paulo, Diadema and Praia Grande. From a semi-structured script, the research aimed to understand how these teachers deal with this information of their personal lives in the school environment and what your obstacles and fears would be. The results of the research show that, instead of an invisibility, initially supposed, the search for a pedagogical visibility, or a conscious attempt to construct a legitimate possibility of existence in the school environment, was highlighted. Wich means that being in a school as a teatcher, brings, itself, a pedagogical aspiration and a accomplishment: building a visibility that guarantees legitimacy for the lesbian existence.

Previous issue date: 2014-07-21 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This dissertation, through an interdisciplinary approach, analyzes the relation between the
minority attribute of lesbianism and thwarted access to citizenship experienced by lesbian
women in Goiás. In order to achieve it, the field of Human Rights is taken from its theoretical
and structural bases to carry out the proposed discussions. A major focus is given to the
tension between conservative discourses of Human Rights, which consolidate practices of
selectivity / restriction to certain minority groups (among them are lesbians) and the
empowered and liberating speeches submitted by interlocutors who were interviewed. Along
with the same tension and ambivalence, this dissertation includes a discussion of the ethical
and moral dimension of the otherness detachment of “the other”. The aim was to discuss the
'human' category qualifiers and its implications on the perception and / or the experience of
citizenship. Special attention was given to the potential for agency and redefinition of
citizenship by interlocutors. The issues were brought to the context of a lesbian militancy in
Goiás, which were analyzed to draw forth a specific reality, namely, the representatives of the
militant group Colcha de Retalhos - UFG Saindo do Armário; and Alego - Lesbian
Association of Goiás. Furthermore, it is important to mention that we did not discard the
voices of interlocutors that echoed from elsewhere, and voluntarily contributed to their
knowledge.

Previous issue date: 2015-07-06 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / Amongst documents depicting regulations and policies of representation, the way some public bodies operate the intersectionalities of the perspectives along with the even defeated enlargement of sexual rights conception, may lead not only to constraint, identity stereotypes, biological determinism, but also perilous essentialisms and violence causing political and existential deletions of women willing to share their lives, sexuality, emotions and other possibilities of intimate relationship with one another. Having said that, compulsory heterosexuality - a great will on sexuality - continues to ban or even silence, in official speeches, the lesbian-desiring voices and to confine them into multiple jails. Thus, through documental analysis of some aspects of the National Plan of Penitentiary Policies (2011), the National Policies Plan for Womens (2013-2015), and also Resolution nº 4 of 29 June 2011 the National Council on Criminal and Penitentiary Policies and joint Resolution nº 1 of 15 April 2014 of CNPCP and the National Council for Combating Discrimination-LGBT, we aimed to reveal the obstacles to effectiveness and regulation of lesbian inmate visits in Brazilian prisons.

The right of sexual minorities under the African human rights systemHuamusse, Luis Edgar Francisco January 2006 (has links)
Magister Legum - LLM / The protection of the rights of sexual minorities in Africa is a controversial issue. It is not unusual to find newspaper reports on gross violations suffered by this minority group. Gays and lesbians are victims of violence, sometimes resulting in death. Sexual minorities in Africa are often confronted with government actions such as those of the Nigerian government that recently submitted to the parliament a Bill to make provisions for the prohibition of relationships between persons of the same sex, celebration of marriage, registration of gay clubs and societies and publicity of same sex relationships. The objective of this study was to suggest possible legal protection and recognition of sexual minority rights under the African human rights system. / South Africa

TERF Wars: Narrative Productions of Gender and Essentialism in Radical-Feminist (Cyber)spacesEarles, Jennifer 27 April 2017 (has links)
This dissertation concerns how activists preserve particular feminisms in everyday life, particularly in this postmodern moment as advances in technology create virtual spaces, as feminism experiences generational shifts, and as notions about gender and bodies influence the discursive and political construction of contemporary activism and communities. The particular feminists at the center of this study are self-described radical feminists. While original theories allowed members to question the essentialism of bodies (i.e., sex class), this study focuses on the movement trajectory in which members critique how people assigned male at birth learn masculinity as inextricably tied to the oppression of women (i.e., sex caste). Using data from a historical newsletter and two current micro-blogs, I provide a textual analysis to understand how public narratives of gender and essentialism circulate in and are challenged by feminist (cyber)spaces. The results of this project suggest four important findings. First, in print and online, people use imagined and essential understandings of bodies where actual bodies are not present in order to exclude. Second, when text reflects the personal, lived experiences of community members, logic and emotion are better connected in the everyday. On the other hand, when lived actuality is abstracted, storytellers rely almost exclusively on logic to make claims. Third, while lesbian newsletter-writers of the past constructed a sexual identity, they did not take on the radical-feminist mandate to talk about sexual desire. Online, only the radical identity of the movement’s predecessor’s has persisted, while any discussions of sexual identity or pleasure are missing. Lastly, while radical and trans-identified feminists often find themselves at odds, this study suggests that perhaps their consciousness-raising practices are more similar than can be seen from the everyday. Both groups use poetry and creative writing as a way to make sense of their coming-out and being-out experiences amid cis- and hetero-normativity.

Mock Juror Effects of Blame and Conviction in Rape Cases: Do Attitudes, Beliefs, and Contact with Homosexuals Matter?Hurst-McCaleb, Dawn 05 1900 (has links)
The current case involves a female rape victim. Research has shown the level of victim blaming can be elevated if the victim is a lesbian woman compared to a heterosexual woman. Mock jurors’ responses to personality trait questionnaires (e.g., Belief in a Just World, Attitudes Toward Women, Attitudes Toward Lesbians) and amount of contact they have with homosexual people were employed as predictors of how they would decide victim blaming and perpetrator guilt. Personality trait findings were not good predictors; however, greater contact with homosexuals did decrease negative attitudes toward lesbian victims. Limitations and implications for future research are addressed.

The social and emotional experiences of black lesbian couples in Seshego Township, Limpopo ProvinceMaotoana, M. R. January 2019 (has links)
Thesis (Ph. D. (Psychology)) --University of Limpopo, 2019 / South African has constitutional protection for the human rights of all its citizens. However, black lesbians in South Africa suffer physical, emotional and psychological abuse. This qualitative study aimed to elicit the social and emotional experiences of black lesbians living, as same-sex partners, in a township setting. The design of the study was exploratory in nature and used a purposive sample of ten couples (twenty women). The investigation was underpinned by Social domain theory (SDT) which allowed for an understanding of the judgements people make in different social settings. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with each couple in order to collect data. The data were analysed using thematic content analysis (TCA) which gleaned ten themes namely, age and sexual orientation, suicide, education, lack of support, hate crimes, substance abuse, stigma, mental health, parenting and discrimination. In the discussion it was found that these themes echoed those in other local and international studies. However, corrective rape is peculiar to South Africa and was experienced by some participants in the study. In one case a brother, with the mother’s support raped his sister repeatedly. This took place in a country which has a progressive constitution and laws. Social norms in the township allows black lesbian couples to suffer this type of abuse and have daily experiences of discrimination and stigmatisation. Recommendations included a quantitative more far reaching study (as well as longitudinal studies) and more workshops and campaigns spreading knowledge about sexuality.

HIV/AIDS a neheterosexuální ženy v Keni / HIV/AIDS and non-heterosexual women in KenyaPavlicová, Vendula January 2015 (has links)
This thesis treats the relation of Kenyan non-heterosexual women to AIDS. It studies the ways in which women come to realise their non-heterosexuality and how consecutively they adopt the identity of lesbians or bisexuals. The thesis also describes how women construct non-heterosexual spaces where they can meet and support each other in a heterosexist society where homosexuality is criminalised and how association function as a strategy of fight against heterosexism. Last but not least, it is concerned with the question how women conceptualise their relationship to AIDS and the prevention of spread of HIV. The aim of the present thesis is to present the difficulties of negotiation of non-heterosexual identity in a culturally different environment. The analysis of the interviews shows that the stigmatisation of women's sexuality has practical consequences for the fight against AIDS. Key words: AIDS, gender, lesbians, bisexuals, heterosexism, homosexuality, Kenya
