Histórias de vida de mulheres com diagnóstico clínico de dores crônicas / Women\'s life stories with a clinical diagnosis of chronic pain

Franca, Suely Maria Santos da Silva 08 July 2016 (has links)
A tese destaca a relevância de mais estudos sobre os impactos emocionais e comportamentais decorrentes de doenças crônicas, como as doenças representadas nessa pesquisa / Chronic pain has serious repercussions at people\'s lives, affecting their well-being in different dimensions and leading to health compromise as to the risk of disease such as depression, bringing anxiety, stress and fear, it is usually associated with chronic pain by modifying the quality of a person\'s life and contributing to the appearance of different pathologies. In this research there were discussed some issues concerning the effects of persistent pain produced in the physical and emotional realm of 33 women, aged 20-79 years from various socioeconomic levels. The objective of this research was to understand the impact of physical and emotional illness in women with a clinical diagnosis of chronic pain and the proposed specific objectives for this research was to know the methods of coping used by women that were living with chronic pain; to identify intermediate beliefs (strategies to deal with pain); investigate whether cognitive distortions (thoughts related to negative interpretations of the reality) that contributed or not to the emergence and maintenance of pain; to check for catastrophic thoughts in women with chronic pain. The method involved qualitative and quantitative approach, in the cognitive behavioral approach, using it as a form of life stories. Therefore a single triggering question was used: \"What is it like to live with chronic pain?\" The answers were separated and analyzed in focus (diagnosis, coping strategies, observable behaviors, and perception of personal control - emotions) and categories. It was also presented an identification questionnaire with 10 questions covering age, marital status, number of children, education, profession, religion, earnings, monthly income, how long the person was living with the symptoms and diagnosis time and it was also applied a scale for checking the presence of catastrophic thoughts with nine (9) questions adapted and validated by Sarda Jr. et al (2008), covering the questions: I can not stand this pain any longer; no matter what I do my pain will not change; I need to take medicine for this pain; it will never end; I am a hopeless case; when will I get worse again? this pain is killing me; I can no longer go on; this pain is driving me crazy. The results confirm the presence of biopsychosocial impact on the participants, as well as the presence of coping strategies and dysfunctional beliefs to cope with the pain, whereas in the sample, only 36.4% (n = 12) made use of \"acceptance and resilience \"as ways of coping. As regarding to the presence of catastrophic thoughts, high score (48.5%) of these thoughts, were found (54.5%) rumination and (36.4%) hopelessness, confirming the proposed objective that was to verify the existence of catastrophic thoughts on the women that collaborated. The thesis highlights the importance of further studies on the emotional and behavioral impacts of chronic diseases, such as the diseases represented in this survey

Through the histories of craftswomen lives it was possible to understand the impacts of the formation process in this course, their experiences and social expectations in the handicraft production made viable through curricular practices to the education of young people and adults who recognize and value handicraft culture, the creation and handicraft production in the professional education of craftswomen. By investigating the handicraft marketplace after training, it was possible, with the craftswomen life stories in hand, to investigate how personal growth developed through their professional perception as craftswoman, their place in the family and their community. The problem with the thesis is the lack of knowledge in how the attendee craftswomen and the IFAL handicraft technical course docents realize the recognition, the valuation and social visibility of handicraft work from the formation offered in the course. The methodological option is qualitative with narrative research and life history approach. It has as references the theories Nóvoa (2010), Josso (2004), Ferrarotti (2010), Clandinin (2011). These authors bring a direct relation bias with the identity of the subjects in this research, considering that the biographical method allows to be granted a great respect for the adult training process, by rescuing not only their personal, professional and social lives context but their training trajectory allied to cultural, political and ethical values. The results of this study can contribute to: enrich culture, social and economical values which creates jobs to the women in Alagoas, value the IFAL recognition as training spot for craftsmen and craftswomen, and bring new references to the theory and curricular practices in the relation between curriculum, knowledge and cultures / A presente pesquisa analisa os impactos da formação das artesãs egressas do Curso Técnico de Artesanato - Programa Nacional de Integração da Educação Profissional com a Educação Básica na Modalidade de Educação de Jovens e Adultos / PROEJA na sua reinserção no mercado de trabalho artesanal após uma formação técnica profissionalizante, que foi realizada no período 2008-2010, no Instituto Federal de Ciências e Tecnologia de Alagoas IFAL.

Cuidados paliativos e histórias de vida: a assistência à saúde na perspectiva dos usuários / Palliative care and life stories: health care from the perspective of users

Guadanhim, Milena Sanches 06 July 2017 (has links)
Portanto, há a necessidade de que seja implantada uma política de saúde específica de cuidado paliativo, sendo esta de forma eficaz e proveitosa, tanto para os profissionais de saúde como para os as pessoas adoecidas e seus familiares / Population aging in Brazil and the progressive increase in cancer occurrence have changed the mortality profile in the population, which requires the Brazilian National Healthcare System to manage the offering of proper health care to patients with advanced cancer and in need of palliative care. The objective of this study was to gain an understanding of the health care provided to people with advanced cancer and to their families, from their life stories and their own perspective as users of the Ribeirão Preto healthcare network. Qualitative study of people with advanced cancer and their families in which the data collection was based on the life story approach and was carried out in scheduled individual meetings. The study was approved by The Human Subjects Research Ethics Committee from Ribeirão Preto Nursing School - University of São Paulo, under number \'CAAE:51204015.0.0000.5393\'. We interviewed 18 subjects who had been selected by non-probability sampling from the population which is assisted by 3 institutions: The Brazilian Association for the Combatting of Child and Adult Cancer (ABRACCIA); The Family Health Strategy Units 1 and 2; and The Ribeirão Preto Home Healthcare Service. The selection of family members was based on the patients\' recommendations, since those are their main caregivers. The interviews were audio recorded and transcribed verbatim and in full. Data analysis was conducted by Thematic Content Analysis. The results were organized into two main units - one on the healthcare network and another on the personal and family life in the home care process. Within these units we addressed themes like the impact of the health service quality on the life stories of people with cancer and their families, involving not only the relationship and communication issues but also the structure and environment of the health service itself. Even though we observed a lack of information on therapeutic possibilities, such as palliative care, the reports indicate that the participants feel grateful for the opportunity of cancer treatment. Therefore, a specific health policy on palliative care needs to be implemented and this must be done in an effective and beneficial way for both the health professionals and for the patients and their families

Nunes, Míghian Danae Ferreira 18 April 2012 (has links)
The questions that oriente this work first started when, observing the universe of Childhood Education in the Municipality of São Paulo, I did not find sufficient documents that attested the presence of black women at that level of education. From a field research in all thirty municipal schools of Childhood Education, in one of the thirteen directories of Education of the city, located in an area considered in the periphery, there was a contact with these women who declared themselves black, racially classified through questionnaires that had been sent to them. I realised interviews with eight of them, collecting material for the record of their life stories and professional trajectories. I introduce the sensible experiences of the black women interviewed and their relations to pedagogical work, as well as their perceptions about racism, sexism, and knowlegde. From their words, the shared understanding at the end of this research states the real importance of professorship, this being an additional possible area of performance for them, \'naturally\' linked to jobs seen as inferior in the scale of social prestige, namely, domestic or cleaning employment. This research notes the importance of, despite the knowledge of how much racism contributed to the confinment of black women in positions considered as subordinate in our society, becoming a teacher for young children keeps other possible meanings to be understood only when black women talk about their own lives. This work dares revindicating the power still present in this profession, for a black population of low income, which is a possible way to give sense to the life of these women who, regardless of the lack of opportunities, follow surviving and negociating life how the can.

In this sense, the trajectories, work practices and experiences acquired during the life with the older gypsies and relatives will be approached throughout the text. The present research seeks to find answers to the problem situation "What is the sense of formation built by gypsy families in Pires do Rio-GO"? Understanding that these subjects according to literature left few records of their historical saga across the world. The general objective is anchored in investigating the sense of formation built by non - school Roma in Pires do Rio-GO. In the attempt to know the origins of the gypsy people, it is proposed first a bibliographical revision with theoretical support of the postulates of Moraes Filho (1981) Teixeira (2009) Perione (2000). Frans Moonen (2011) and the Guide to Public Policies for the Gypsy People (2014). The method that best problematizes the demand of this dissertation is the autobiographical one because it understands that this one meets the proposed objective. We will address the recalling events through the life histories of these subjects, based on the studies of Maurice Halbwachs (2006), Josso (2004) (2010), Nóvoa (2010), Soares (1991), Bosi (1998) Delory-Momberger 2008) (2012) Clandinin and Connelly (2011) (2015), Antônio Bolívar (2002). Once the initial considerations of the historical origins have been made and the method of the research, the writing goes through the identification of the subjects of the research carried out by exploratory research. They will be presented through the narratives as the process of arrival and permanence of those subjects who chose to live in masonry houses, thus abandoning nomadism and becoming sedentary. Subjects such as religion, culture, marriage, family life, the trips that in the past were customary among the family group. In this perspective the life experiences of the Gypsies of Pires do Rio-GO will be pointed out in their view regarding the school emphasizing the cause for not having attended, the prejudice pointed out with antagonistic visions, the labor practices having as main factor the learning along of life. Specifically, the concept of training draws attention and the support comes from Josso (2004) Alheit and Dausien (2006) Caspar (2007) and the Brussels Memorial (2000). This analysis through the gypsy narratives made it possible to think about the understanding of the sense of formation that Gypsies give their lives through the experiences that were acquired with their parents and older relatives.

Padecer no paraíso? Experiências de mães de jovens em conflito com a lei / To suffer in the paradise? Experiences of mothers of young in conflict with the law

Evangelista, Marcela Boni 03 March 2011 (has links)
Padecer no Paraíso? / To suffer in the paradise? Academic and Peer Status in the Mathematical Life Stories of Students

Wise, Carol Ann 01 November 2015 (has links)
Mathematics students often define themselves by their grades, test scores, how they compare to other people, how comfortable they feel in mathematics class, and so on. These experiences are all part of a student's mathematical life story. Students assume positions with particular rights and duties for themselves and for the actors in the stories they tell. Those positions reflect certain types and levels of status. Those types and levels of status have been shown to either inhibit or open a student's access to learning mathematics. Thus, a student's status in mathematics education is an issue of equity. Mathematics educators and mathematics education researchers alike have argued that equity is a critical issue to their field. This serious issue has motivated me to study status and associated positions from a student's perspective. Thus, I have analyzed students' mathematical life stories of two high school students for positions with concomitant rights and duties and associated these with types of status. Positions, which are situated in storylines (or larger narratives about interactions), have been identified which add to the field's definitions and understanding of status. Both student participants focused on different types of status in sharing their experiences, one focusing on academic status and the other focusing on peer status. Therefore, the positions for each student illuminate the relationship between positions and types of status. Contributions to the research which reflect this relationship are discussed as well as what teachers can learn from these stories to shape access to mathematics learning and to students' mathematical socialization.

Kosařová, Adéla January 2019 (has links)
The diploma thesis entitled "Stories of Women with the Mark" Green Widow "in Addictology Perspective aims to use semi-structured interviews to map the relationship between substance use and moving to a satellite town of selected ten respondents who meet the fixed criteria that are as follows : well-socio-economically-dependent women (higher social status of the family, good income and permanent employment of the spouse) living in satellite towns of large cities, the financial side of the family is occupied by a busy husband, women spend most of their time without their spouse go to work and some form of addictological or psychiatric history. Furthermore, this thesis aims to find common recurring life themes and behaviors in the given women. At present, the topic of green widows is becoming the current one, especially in the growing suburbanization of Czech cities, even in the field of addictology, where the literature or research conducted is not adequately described. The theoretical part is devoted to risk factors that can threaten green widows such as overuse of drugs or alcohol, but also feelings of loneliness, isolation from the environment, infidelity or abandoned nest syndrome. Furthermore, the theoretical part deals with satellite towns and lifestyles of satellite residents. In the practical...

/
The goal of the research is to document different identities of female university professors who left Serbia and went to other academic communities throughout the world, in order to achieve their professional career.
Hypothesis of the work:
H-1: First hypothesis is that female professors of the academic diaspora have left their countries in order to be able to successfully build their professional careers elsewhere, during times when it was impossible for them to do so in their own countries, due to lack of sufficient conditions which would facilitate their domestic careers.
H-2: Second hypothesis is that all professors in the academic diaspora have variable, multiple identities.
H-3: Third hypothesis: empirical data on lives of professors within the academic diaspora are helpful in building of the cooperation strategy between the professors from diaspora and domestic university centres.
The basic and control group of analysis consists of 21 life stories of female professors who have acquired their career education within Serbian universities, while their professional career was established in different countries in Europe and throughout the world. Audio recordings of 11 professors, made during a period of six years (2009-2015) in a form of conversations according to previously prepared semi-structured questionnaires (24h of audio material), were transcribed to a form of written text (256 pages in total). 10 life stories of University of Novi Sad's female professors were published as a control material (Savic 2015). The basic criteria for the selection of women: they were all born in the Republic of Serbia (where they have spent their childhood and finished some or all of their education), while achieving their career somewhere else in the world, outside Serbia.
The data shows that all professors have managed to balance their professional and private life, and it turned out that "one" was facilitating the "other", during their successful career.
All professors had support of their spouses for their professional work as well as for relocation to foreign countries. Such support proved to be necessary, since all of them encountered obstacles and challenges within the academic diaspora, from the moment they left their country as well as during their professional career (e.g.: some of them had to repeat/retake their higher education, or to change the profession or area/field of work, while some of them continued with their academic specialization).
Education proved crucial for upbringing of their children, too. Top notch education according to desires and affinities of their children.
Language identity of the professors within the academic diaspora is more connected to their professional orientation than to their national identities.
Professors have tried to teach their children their mother tongue, even though they were born (or have spent the most of their lives) in foreign countries, so it wouold be safe to say that those children have two (or more) languages that they consider as their native.
The most striking resemblance between the professors of the Novi Sad University (UNS) and professors in academic diaspora is their equal desire and thrive for education and advancement within their science and field of work, regardless of the cost and obstacles they have encountered, during that journey.
Equaly important similarity is the discrimination they have faced during their careers. UNS professors have faced discrimination on their scientific path and advancement, while academic diaspora professors have faced it regarding their employment, their field of expertise and possible advancement, as well.
All professors from academic diaspora are willing to cooperate with universities and other scientific institutions in Serbia, but the lack of systematic solutions for such cooperation in Serbia at this point is preventing them to do so.
Female experiences encompassed here, are witnessing the unused resources, which are missing when it comes to cooperation and engagement of academic diaspora professors in Serbia today. They can serve as a starting point for making a longterm strategy on implementation of knowledge and achievements of female academic professors in domestic surroundings.
It is significant that the issue of female migration, especially when it is connected to their work and profession, is intertwined within the interdisciplinary gender studies, since it is certain that migrations will be a longterm subject in the future of the whole civilisation. There are programs and courses dealing with higher education of women, collecting empirical material during research projects.
Possibilities for application of results:
1. Empirical data on identitiy of academically educated women from diaspora (gender being one of them) will serve during theoretical discussions on relationship of the elements of identity and gender.
2.Empirical data have practical significance, as they may serve as a proposition and starting point of the cooperation strategy, as well as for the possible return of the female academic experts from the diaspora back to academic elite of Serbia (and the Ex-YU region).
3. Enrichment of the existing data base of life stories of women from the Republic of Serbia, members of different national communities, who have accomplished their lives in the 20th and 21st century.
The results of the PhD thesis should serve the development of a strategy on implementation of academic women's achievements, in domestic surroundings.

Nybyggarbarn : Barnuppfostran bland nybyggare i Frostvikens, Vilhelmina och Tärna socknar 1850-1920 / The Children of the Settlers : Childrearing among settlers in the parishes of Frostviken, Vilhelmina and Tärna 1850-1920

Liliequist, Marianne January 1991 (has links)

The investigation concerns childrearing among settlers in the northern part of Sweden between 1850-1920. What were the attitudes of the adults towards children and what ideals were there for children's behaviour? By investigating childrearing I also intended to find which general values and norms there were in the settlers' society. When answering these questions it has turned out that the relationship between discourse, ideal norm and practice is of central importance. The source material has been taken mainly from ethnological archives. The specific elements in the settlers' way of bringing up children will be clear from a comparison with other methods from different times and different social systems. I have found it productive to refer to the discussion regarding various theories on the history of civilisation. The problems of historical translation constitute a central methodological issue in the comparison between different ways of bringing up children. I have tried to dissociate myself from the analysis of childrearing in different times which can be found in the thoughts of Philippe Aries and Norbert Elias. Michel Foucault represents a more unprejudiced history of civilisation and his thoughts about an older and a younger form of steering mechanism have turned out to be applicable in the case of historical change in the discourse and practise of childrearing. The childhood of the settlers' children can be divided into two separate periods; the liberal period of the child's first two or three years, and the time when discipline began. During the first period the child was entitled to have all its needs fulfilled. At the age of four or five a more rigorous discipline began. Flogging and fright were used and the purpose was to make the child obedient, humble and willing to work. Adults could openly express tenderness and kiss and fondle the infants. It is more difficult to interpret the language of tenderness where the older children are concerned, since adults did not express their feelings for them in words or gestures. The way the adults related to the children reveals, however, an attitude which deviates from the ideas of the Old Testament. This attitude, which existed on the level of practise, meant loving playfulness and respect. Discipline was used to teach the children proper behaviour in all areas of life, e.g. the social life with all its strict rules of etiquette. The difficulty in discovering the discipline which existed in the settlers' society, is linked to the fact that their idea of proper behaviour did not always correspond with the ideas of the middle class. The settlers taught their children to control their spontaneous feelings of distaste for dirt and uncleanliness. To openly demonstrate warm feelings for other people was also discouraged. By expressing feelings of shame, the children were taught to discipline their sexuality. Training in humbleness was also a training for life. Children who were in service had to learn the manners and the landless people were outside the reciprocity in the' settlers' society.
