Om framtiden vet vi intet : en undersökning av hur Bibliotek 2.0 påverkar folkbibliotek och bibliotekarier / About the future, we know nothing : a study of how Library 2.0 affects public libraries and librarians

Bergström, Per January 2010 (has links)
The point of departure for this thesis was an article written by Christer Hermansson (2008). He thinks that librarians, following the development of Library 2.0 and the change of public libraries, have strayed away from what he believes should be the focus of the library: Literature. The aim of this thesis is to study how librarians in six Swedish libraries perceive their occupational roles. How does the increased user control, which is seen as part of Library 2.0, affect the tasks of libraries and librarians? The material used in this study was acquired using a qualitative interview technique in which six librarians working in public libraries with experience of IT, mediation and purchase of literature partook. The interviews were analyzed by comparing the empirical material to theories of librarian models (Klasson 1991) respectively Community of practices (Sundin 2003). The results showed that there are different conceptions among the participating librarians regarding whether their occupation roles and the public library activity has changed/been affected by Library 2.0. Some librarians thought that the occupation role has changed, but not because of 2.0. Others meant that the core of the occupation role has not been changed; they use old working methods in new ways. It´s still too early to tell how the development of Library 2.0 will affect libraries and the tasks of librarians, the technology has not developed far enough yet in most Swedish public libraries.

Litteraturförmedling i förändring : om folkbibliotekarier, Facebook och Twitter. / Mediation of literature in change : about public librarians, Facebook and Twitter.

Jaderup, Anders, Karlsson, Sofie January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe how librarians inSwedish public libraries use Facebook and Twitter in themediation of literature. Our study focus on the librarians’ role inthat process. The research questions are:• How do the librarians in this study regard mediation of literature through Facebook and/or Twitter in relation to othermediation strategies?• What goals and purposes do the librarians give in the selection of literature that they promote on Facebook and/or Twitter?• What do public librarians think about the future for mediation of literature through social media, how will it evolve? The methodology used was qualitative interviews. Six interviewswith librarians that work with mediation of literature throughFacebook and/or Twitter were conducted. The theoreticalframework used comes from Jofrid Karner Smidt’s theory of howpublic librarians view their mediation of literature. The conceptsused are mediation of literature due to public demand, activelyrecommending and informative mediation, and through dialogue. The results of the study show that, in relation to other mediationstrategies, librarians regard mediation through Facebook/Twitter asfast and easy, but the response from the users is often poor.Mediation through dialogue is thereby difficult to achieve. Theother two concepts – mediation of literature due to public demandand actively recommending and informative mediation – are bothto different extent supported by the informants. Speculating aboutthe future, librarians find it likely that mediation through socialmedia will focus more on the users and that dialogue will occur. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Litteraturförmedling på gymnasienivå : En studie av kanon, beskrivningar och litteratursyn i fyra läromedelspaket för gymnasieskolan

Carlström, Claes January 2008 (has links)

This study examines in which way literature is presented in four schoolbooks for the Swedish senior high school of today, compared to descriptions and selections in Swedish universities. The study covers two basic schoolbook categories used in the teaching of Swedish and comparative literature: anthologies and textbooks.

The four anthologies structures and their joined canon are presented, and the text canon of 12 common writers is studied and compared to the corresponding text canon in the universities selection of texts to main courses in comparative literature. The four textbooks are analysed by close reading of the presentations of four different writers and their works, where the textbooks for the Swedish senior high school are viewed through the glass of literary guides used in Swedish universities.

The study also analyses what literary perspective is present in the Swedish school principles for education in literature and display, through earlier didactic studies, a sketch of the classroom reality of education in literature.

The study finds that the examined schoolbooks for the Swedish senior high school tend to, not only shorten the text length and amount of texts but also, simplify the selection and presentation of the writers production. This leads to certain fixed and, in some cases, almost stereotyped ‘roles’ that are assigned to the writers and limits their production. The examined schoolbooks also tend to focus on the themes and meaning of the texts, while neglecting the structure, language and form. Further more, the view on canon is often fairly uncomplicated and seemingly unaware of the many years of canon debates.

The selection of the four examined anthologies and textbooks for the Swedish senior high school, Ekengrens svenska, Svenska spår 2, Den levande litteraturen and Möt litteraturen, were based on popularity on the market. The corresponding material for Swedish universities was based on the selection in main courses in comparative literature from four of the largest universities: Göteborg, Lund, Stockholm and Uppsala. The selection of the four different writers and their work was based on a study on the canon of school editions of complete literary works in senior high schools of Stockholm.

Kräver högläsning bibliotekariekompetens? : Möjligheter och hinder för samarbetemellan bibliotek och daglig verksamhet. / Does reading aloud requires librarian competence? : Opportunitiesand barriers to cooperation between libraries and daily activities.

Carleson, Angela January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to find out whether there is anycollaboration between libraries and daily activity-centres inScania and how librarians and care staff use literature towardspersons with, for example, intellectual disabilities. Furthermorethe aim is to examine if there are any views on how cooperationbetween the organizations could be developed. The method used is web surveys with mainly open endedquestions sent to both librarians and care workers in dailyactivity-centres.The study shows that most collaboration today is concerned withthe participants in the daily activities performing tasks at thelibraries. Many of the librarians also states that they offer bookdeposits. A few libraries occasionally offers reading aloudactivitiesfor the user group. Most of the daily activity-centres inthe study have groups that visit the library regularly. There seemsto be an interest for closer cooperation but lack of resources isregarded by the librarians as the main obstacle.Regarding the purpose of reading aloud for the user group itseems as if both professional categories see it as dominantly apleasant experience for the participants in the daily activities. Thecare workers also stress aloud reading as pastime and reading as ameans to create community. Librarians too stresses the view ofpastime. An important difference is that reading as a way offinding out facts seems to be much more important to the careworkers while the librarians much stronger press the view ofreading as a form of therapy.

”Poesin har potential” : En fallstudie av Poesibazaren på Stadsbiblioteket i Stockholm. / "Poetry has potential” : A field study of Poesibazaren at Stadsbiblioteket in Stockholm.

Gidlöf, Lisa January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this master´s thesis is to study how some Swedish public libraries work with mediating poetry. I did a field study at Poesibazaren, which has been active since 2010, located at Stadsbiblioteket in Stockholm. I also did a minor study about the work with mediating poetry at Stadsbiblioteket in Uppsala. My research questions included: Which mediating strategies are used in Poesibazaren? Which mediating roles are used by the librarians? How does taste in literature affect the mediation? Which factors are important to be able to mediate poetry in a public library? I used Jofrid Karner Smidts doctor´s thesis Mellom elite og publikum: litterär smak og litteraturformidling blant bibliotekarer i norske folkebibliotek as a theoretical outset. Karner Smidt uses theoretical concepts of Pierre Bourdieu, such as literary field, habitus and literary taste to analyze her results. I used Bourdieus theories as interpreted by Karner Smidt, because she has adapted them to the context of the public library and the librarians view on literature. The method used was qualitative interviews and an observation at a poetry program in Poesibazaren. I interviewed four persons, one is a poet, one is a librarian and an author, and two of them are librarians. The result of the study shows that the librarians have a literary taste that lean against the high, avant-garde literature, which was a different result from Karner Smidts study, where the librarians had a taste in the middle, between the low and the high literature. My result also showed that the librarians in Poesibazaren adapt the form of the poetry programs so that they can fit people who are curious about poetry but not have poetry-reading as a habit, which has to do with the library’s democratic mission. Important factors for mediating poetry is support from leaders, co-working with collegues and an interest in poetry. This is a two years master’s thesis in Library and Information Science.

Litteraturens betydelse : En intervjustudie av ett antal folkbibliotekariers förhållningssätt till biblioterapi i relation till sin yrkesroll och litteraturförmedling / The meaning of literature : An interview study of how a number of public librarians experience bibliotherapy in relation to their professional role and literature promotion

Gambring, Maria January 2018 (has links)
Abstract: This Master’s thesis investigates seven public librarians’ approach to bibliotherapy in relation to their experiences of key components in their role and in relation to literature promotion, as well as how they consider bibliotherapy within the context of Swedish public libraries. Research questions used were: Which competences and characteristics do the librarians experience as key components in their role related to literature promotion? How do the librarians consider traditional forms of literature promotion in relation to bibliotherapy? How do the librarians consider bibliotherapy in the context of Swedish public libraries? Interviews were carried out with seven public librarians, two of them working with bibliotherapy. A thematic analysis was used to process the empirical material. Theoretical instruments applied in the analysis were Grøn’s three phases of literature promotion in public libraries and Brewster’s research on bibliotherapy. Six aspects of the librarians’ role in relation to literature promotion emerged from the informants’ experiences: digital tools, social competence, information seeking, literature knowledge, general knowledge and some personal characteristics. The librarians’ approach to traditional literature promotion can be found mainly in two of Grøn’s phases, the reformative and the affirmative. Bibliotherapy can, according to some informants, be related to traditional forms of literature promotion, in accordance with Brewster’s informal bibliotherapy. The study suggests that many of the librarians are positive to bibliotherapy but finds some aspects problematic when implemented within the public library. Amongst problems mentioned were: the term therapy associated with clinical environments, lack of education and general knowledge amongst librarians and users.

Det lilla bageriet i Mordor? : En kvantitativ kartläggning av folkbibliotekariers genrekunskap om fantasy / The little bakery in Mordor? : A quantitative survey of public librarians' genre knowledge of fantasy

Funke, Linnea, Katby, Sandra January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to conduct a quantitative overview of public librarians' genre knowledge of fantasy and examine how the genre is presented and linked to literature mediation activities. The fantasy genre is somewhat undefined and previous studies show that there is no common or accepted definition of the genre fantasy. Depending on a librarians' knowledge of the genre, the genre's location and exposure in the library are greatly affected. This study is based on the following questions: How do the librarians' genre knowledge affect literature mediating activities at the library and how is the genre presented in the library? What characteristics and distinctive features do public librarians in Västra Götaland County associate with the genre of fantasy? An online survey was conducted with 90 librarians. The analysis of the answers recorded from the survey is based on theories about literature mediation and genre knowledge. Our results show that librarians have a general knowledge of fantasy based on their answers concerning what characterizes the genre through distinctive features and elements. In our analysis, we conclude that genres can "borrow" each other's attributes, elements and features without a book or other media necessarily being classified as a particular genre. It was also concluded that the librarians based on their genre knowledge can implement fantasy elements in their literature and reading promotion activities.

Den lässkygge högstadieeleven : En kvalitativ studie om skolbibliotekariers litteraturförmedlingsmöjligheter på högstadienivå / The bookshy secondary school student : A qualitative study about the school librarian’s opportunities of encouraging reading at a lower secondary school

Brunander, Henrik January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the opportunities and possibilities a librarian has to encourage reading and supply literature to pupils in the ages 13-16 as well as how receptive the pupils and the teachers are to the librarian’s work. The study is performed using semi-structured interviews and the data is analysed using a qualitative method. The study is using Thomas Brante’s work on professional theories as theoretical basis. Five school librarians were selected for interviews. The result of the study shows that pupils are more interested in reading if approached in an informal manner or as an equal than they are when reading is an enforced task. A librarian’s biggest challenge is more likely to depend on how willing the faculty is to listen, communicate and cooperate with the librarian. The headmaster’s commitment towards the concept of a school library as an asset to the students’ education also has a big effect on a librarian’s work.

Spexar folkbibliotekarien? : en kartläggning av digital litteraturförmedling på Tiktok / The silly librarian? : a mapping on digital literature mediation on Tiktok

Olsson, Helena January 2022 (has links)
The aim of this Master's thesis is to study what public librarians' literature mediation looks like on Tiktok by exploring some librarians' experiences and perspectives and by mapping posts on the libraries Tiktok accounts to see which patterns emerge. The method for the study is qualitative semi-structured interviews with librarians as well as a quantitative content analysis of Tiktok-posts from the libraries where the interviewed librarians work. Analysis of the empirical material has been conducted within a thematic framework based on Jofrid Karner Smidt's mediation roles (1994). The key findings are that the librarian mostly acts as an educator and as a social anthropologist in the selection of literature, but that the librarian in the posts appears in the librarian's role as an ordinary person who conveys subjective experiences as a reader and tries to participate in the reading community Booktok on Tiktok. There is great possibility of designing videos on Tikok in order to reach users, but this requires knowledge of the aesthetics of the platform.
